hold onto it for awhile then sell it when the price is 100 gold.
The problem I basically keep seeing is this.
1. Everyone enjoys the Halloween event
2. Everyone wants to be a completionist and do everything in the event.
3. Some people are good at jumping puzzles/some people are not
4. The prior are happy, the later are notSorry, not quite right. It goes more like this:
1. Everyone enjoys the Halloween event
2. Everyone wants to be a completionist and do everything in the event.
3. Some people are prepared to spend anything up to 17 hours (based on the posts here) repeating the same awkward sequence of movements every minute or so in order to complete it. Others feel this is a form of (albeit self-inflicted) torture.
4. The prior are happy, the latter are not
I accept your alternate version.
I did it twice yesterday and I got 1 exotic the first time (a focus) and random greens the second time.
How do you get the flaming book? I got the plain one.
Do the second half of the scavenger hunt, there’s not really an indication that there even IS a second half, but there is and they’re all in 30-60 level areas. Consult an online guide to know where to go.
Best advice would be to not TRY to beat it, just try to enjoy it. The more you practice and get used to learning how to jump each little obstacle you’ll get your rhythm and just plow through it.
I dunno, I’ve given it probably 2-3 hours over the course of 4 days and I just don’t see it happening unless I hunker down and decided to spend an afternoon doing NOTHING but Clock Tower.

There’s really no bridge between those two groups. I tend to agree with the later simply because the tower requires a level of dexterity and platforming usually not indicative of MMO games. It’s not that weird for people who like MMOs to NOT be good at jumping puzzles. I think Maple Story, ToR, and now GW2 are the only MMOs I’ve seen with them.
On evil design: Hardest part is at the beginning where everyone is clumped up. The game seems to do this intentionally by arbitrarily stopping everyone’s momentum and making sure they’re clumped up at arguably one of the hardest parts of the whole puzzle. I can’t really deny that this is kind of b/s.

Well, after all that hype up, i would expect something unique from the mad king, could be something such as a skin ( nothing expensive, even soulbound W/E) or parts of a unique looking set ( that you could complete by redoing the place) or anything like that,
Ummm… you mean the three weapon skins? They drop there (in the form of exotics, but they’re there). Unique looking set? Well there is the Mad King armor set you can get… but whatever.
The mad king set isn’t unique though.
Ravens are pretty much large crows, it doesn’t even spawn that, I would describe it as a hawk or a pigeon.
Would you describe them as EVIL hawks and pigeons…?
I want to like the stats, but a good necro works on conditions OR power. Having a little of both is a waste sadly….too bad as I would love to have a set of THE MAD KING!
Also the final ability is more for fun than useful.

Hmm they could just keep the NPCs in LA to let you into the instances, that would be fun. They could even make a spot where they all hang out so you can play around with the minigames….like a Carnival area or something.
Really I hated it at first but after long and hard work.. I got it done. took me about 17 hours today nonstop at that place. I felt so relieved after. Believe me, if I can do it, anyone can. Within reason of course =)
I implore people to try to keep it cool and keep trying even if it seems impossible.
I wish there was a practice mode so you could do it and get no rewards but start memorizing the path.
Here’s a convenient video of that one time event for those who care.
Mad Memoirs, 10 slot ToT bag, Pumpkin Carver. Some ppl are never happy.
I mean specifically the fight with the Mad King. He’s the head honcho, the main boss of the Halloween Event. It’s not that odd to want something to show that you faced him man to pumpkin man and survived.
3. Don’t stop for chests, they aren’t worth it.
Or, you can change looting to auto-loot so when you pass a chest all you have to do is tap f once, just once, very quickly; then you are free to keep moving. You don’t even have to stop.
Huh really? That’s good to know. I always ignored them thinking there was a cast time to opening them. I often end up jumping on the first chest’s platform depending on where my momentum is taking me, I’ll have to jam the F key as I pass sometime.
I like the mad king setup more (it’s a lot more epic) BUT, i like the headless horseman loot a lot better.
When i got the realm 1st (aww yeah!) on the helmet i was in hogs heaven – i think i had that helmet on for like a year. I even had its laugh set into my warriors charge attack so i would burst out laughing as i charged in – Muhahahahahahahaaa BAM!!!!
.
I got the helmet on my warlock and cried when I couldn’t wear it…
I would have liked some kind of item you can wear that says “I participated in that event.” Maybe a Mad King Thorn mini pet….I would have LOVED that.
I recommend just shouting out in the chat that you need someone to run you through it. I’m sure there’s someone out there sick of farming the Mad King or doing some other Halloween Event that will enjoy a change of pace.
The headless horsemen wasn’t really a challenge. Though it was fun to jump in real quick and take him out. I do like the challenge the Mad King provided. And the treasure at the bottom is always nice.
Well that’s the thing too. A lot of the bosses in GW2 just seem like damage sponges to me. You can take down HH pretty quickly once you know his phases, and the same goes for the MK, but in his case you gotta keep biting away at his health for a solid 5-10 minutes.
I noticed this in a lot of other dungeons, once you figure out the pattern you’ve won, and it’s just a matter of burning down their obnoxiously large health pools.
I like the first book skin better, but the second one goes well with anyone with a fire theme going on.
I would also like to add to the person above me to use the mouse for left/right movement not the left/right arrow keys. Its the only way to turn yourself in the air effectively I’ve found. Turning on the ground with keys is too slow.
It’s garbage. Pure garbage.
Well the fact that the hardest part is at the beginning when everyone is in a big clump seems a bit like evil design (not to mention it arbitrarily stops you to ENSURE everyone is together at the hardest part), but I dunno it SEEMS doable.
Though every time I fail I feel like some designer is laughing at me.
How do you compare the instances for the Mad King vs. the Headless Horseman.
Both are direct boss battles instances with an amusing “villain.”
For me the Mad King’s is definitely more in depth with the battle moving amongst multiple platforms, but for some reason I still liked the Horseman’s more. Mostly because his rhyming quotes are just so memorable.
They both look super cool though…I can’t decide which design I like better…
(I’d post pictures of both of them, but last time I tried to embed an image it didn’t work no matter what kind of tags I used)
Yes, makes perfect sense to me.
I just had a thought that helped me get over the fact that I don’t think I have time it will likely take to conquer the tower this year. Which is:
Don’t stress it. Try again next year. Think about it this way, right now the “Mad King” set is just renamed version of sets already in existence. Possibly when the event happens again next year that will have changed and it will be armor of a unique style.
The achievement will still be there to be acquired as well. And note that you don’t need the achievement to get the emissary title!

If you don’t need the Clock Tower achievement everyone on this forum is going to feel like an kitten including me, for complaining so much.
You don’t need Clock Tower achievement for the emissary title, ANet already confirmed on this forum.
Are you serious? Like seriously serious?
….
You don’t need it.. It’s been said multiple times by multiple people that Mad King Clock Tower isn’t needed, and the guy above says that even arenanet said it.
This need to be disseminated. All the arguing I did for the clock tower being too hard was based SOLELY on the fact that I thought you needed it for the emissary achievement. If you don’t I rescind EVERYTHING I said about the clocktower and it can be as hard as it kitten wants to be.
Aka if you can complete the event (get the title) without doing that jumping puzzle, then it doesn’t matter if it’s pushes out casual players.

Link please?
I feel like the people who love it are people who played a lot of NES games back in the day.
The 2 NES games I was able to beat was Barbie and Where’s Waldo.
If you don’t need the Clock Tower achievement everyone on this forum is going to feel like an kitten including me, for complaining so much.
Because someone else has it worse than me, my issues with -insert issue- don’t matter.
By that logic I shouldn’t be sad when my family gets killed by a terrorist, because there’s been people whose families got first tortured before getting killed. No, how dare I be sad when other people have had it so much worse than me.PS, I’m not agreeing with the people that the Clock Tower, or Halloween event sucks. I like both, but this argument to try to make people shut up is just stupid.
I don’ think there’s ever been a game forum out there when that argument hasn’t come up at least once.
It’s like the adage that everyone brings up WWII and Nazis eventually if an argument goes long enough. If a game argument goes long enough someone will attempt a ’real problems" argument.
I understand the frustration, but you need to time the jumps based on the screen, not your character. Just remember that you are always in the middle of your screen.
And if you can’t see the jump? How does this even make sense?
Trial and error will tell you where to jump next. It took me an hour of failing before I got it.
I think they should put that as a tag line on the back of the GW2 box
“Hours of failing!”
Isn’t how you get better at anything? I can’t imagine anyone who doesn’t fail at some point.
Yes but does it really need to be hour(s) plural. I just stopped at the completionist thread and some people are saying it took them 5 hours…

See? That thread is going to fall in mad “argumentating” again!
Chrollo: you say you cannot complete your world progression and your halloween event. HELL, DUDE, THERE ARE PEOPLE DYING OF HUNGER AND DESEASES AND EVERYTHING IN THE WORLD AND YOU HAVE THE CHANCE TO PLAY A VIDEOGAME SO, let’s relax, and, just as I said, enjoy life.
Why even have forums with that logic.
Well people aren’t happy, when people aren’t happy they don’t like the game, and when they don’t like the game they stop playing.
My goal in this game was to get 100% world completion, but my server doesn’t have enough activity to control enough of the WvW for me to finish it. That’s a bust. My second goal was to complete the Halloween event, which due to the clock tower and the hurricane I may or may not be able to complete.
Well I guess kitten like me will soon be leaving the game and then you can have it all to yourself.
What server are you on, if by chance it’s Eredon Terrace I can run you throw the high level areas
PS: I did find this kind of crap.
They wont nerf it, it wont be available long enough for them to figure out the code and how to change it.
I don’t like it, but I definitely agree with this. Also the fact that none of “this” kind of topic has any red posts means that they don’t really care about all this hub bub
Well it really comes down to the fact that the people who are good at jumping puzzles love it and the people who aren’t hate it.
I mean what really can be done? I saw just make two modes then everyone is happy.
GW2 has definitely taken a page from the cash shop gambling features of Korean MMOs. It’s totally possible to get screwed if you’re not careful.
It’s why some of these games run across gambling laws in some countries…
I dunno, I remember when I used to play Dungeon Fighter a full Avatar Set (stuff to change the look of your character) was often times 25+ dollars. Thinking back on it that’s a ridiculous rip off, but after playing a game long enough you start buying into the weird way they price things and think it’s a deal.
There’s real world logic and game logic, I think you’re expressing the schism you feel when comparing the two.
Well I already had the clock tower achievement feeling when, having grinded doors the second day to get the mob achievement they introduce a map crawling with halloween mobs.
I think everyone gets 100gold and banners they can display over their characters that say “SCREW YOU EASTERN HEMISPHERE!”
GW2 is such a great game because it lets me play the game the way I wanna play it and do the things I wanna do. So far this is the first time I’ve wanted to be able to do something and the design works at a high barrier to overcome.
The connecting feature of the different Halloween events are the achievements all leading to a master achievement.
This would be like if you had to complete all the world jumping puzzles to get 100% world completion. They are hard, and GW2 thankfully makes them self contained rewards.
An obvious counter is that they’re both achievements, but there is little connecting all the jumping puzzle achievements together besides satisfaction while there is a “you’ve completed the halloween event” achievement connected to the clock tower. I’ve spent real time playing this event and I truly, honestly feel the tower will make it so I can’t show that I did so.
3 hours……………………….
Yea lets limit content so not everyone can do it, that’ll keep people playing.
I wish they had an easy mode (just for the achievements) and a hard mode for the loot. I don’t give a crap about the loot I just want to get the emissary title.
(nevermind it sounds like all you get is boots and the rest of the set is some kind of crazy MF recipe)
Easy Mode would have no time limit and just be there to do. You could either just access the tower or the start the tower “event.”
I wonder how many people who said they liked the tower would still choose to do the hard event if they had that choice.
(edited by Chrollo.2173)
It’s random random random! Just go to Provern shore in Gandarran Fields and keep opening doors until one has a pumpkin over it. I can confirm this because I’ve done it twice now.
There are 4 doors that spawn around the pirate camp.
There’s poor guidance for this event in general, I had to use online guides to know what everything was. I guess it’s the…spirit of exploration they’re counting on?
I didn’t even KNOW about the mystic forge stuff until people told me.
I like…can’ turn in mid air. I have to land and turn like a kitten I watched some videos of people doing it online and it seems like they have the pathing memorized…which scares me how many times it probably took them to get like that.
I’ve gotten to the point where I’m not falling, but I’m just not fast enough. That beginning part with the rubble is the hardest part of the whole thing…it’s like designed ti discourage and frustrate people!
Sometime next week I plan to hunker down and really make a go of it. I’m just…terrible at jumping puzzles in this game. Terrible, and the fact that you have to do this one fast is just so hard for me to do. I feel like a total ’ kitten when I play that thing.
It says I have 3/4 of the zones discovered. Is the fourth available yet?
