I spent over 2000 Gems on permanent harvesting equipment and outfit skins that I lost because I deleted the characters before those items were switched from soul-bound to account-bound. I’m not whinging or demanding refunds, and that content will NEVER come back. Your precious box will return, and your token will still get you in. The self-righteous sense of entitlement you project by spouting rhetoric like “robbing customers blind” and demanding refunds does not help your cause.

Oh for please. No one actually paid for the Super Adventure Box. It’s a mini-game, a periodic thing like the Zephyrite Market and the holiday festivals. And if it’s been over a year since their last iteration, maybe they’re trying to fix something that prompted a lot of complaints.

Honestly, my only complaint is that I can’t sell the tokens I have for the bloody Box, because it’s my least favorite content. But saying that ANET is “stealing customers’ money” just because they haven’t activated a particular optional fluff content in over a year? That’s a bit much. There are features that were promised pre-release that I’m still waiting to see implemented at all, but I whole-heartedly believe I’ve gotten my money’s worth out of this game, and will happily put more into it when I have it to invest. The SAB will come back eventually. If that’s all you’re playing for, you’re in the wrong game.

Am I totally wrong in thinking that there used to be a suggestions forum on here? Because I went looking for a place to post a suggestion and found a whole lot of nil.

And while I’m at it, my suggestion: glowing dyes. Sylvari glow in the dark, but none of our clothes do. Not even the Sylvari racial stuff. So any chance we could get a series of glowing dyes? Maybe in the same colors as the Sylvari body glows? Anyone could use them, but it’d really help the illusion that Sylvari armor is grown right out of the body.

A Treatise on Tipping

I don’t understand all the hostility on this thread. When a Mesmer is providing portals to the end of a jump puzzle, they are providing you with free loot and possibly free achievements with absolutely no investment of time or energy on your part. They, on the other hand, have invested the time to learn and complete the puzzle and are now spending MORE of their time lingering in place to help YOU, rather than continuing on their way to the next event/map/puzzle/story chapter. If the time and effort you’re going to save isn’t worth five silver, do the kitten ed puzzle yourself and stop taking advantage of their generosity.

For the record, I do have a Mesmer, but I don’t provide portals. Because I positively blow at jumping puzzles. And even when I’m too broke to pay attention (which is most days), I’ll tip a few copper or a piece of my chest loot to a Mesmer who makes my life a little easier. They’re going out of their way to help me, why should I be an ungracious clown-waffle to them?

Requesting a new Sub-forum

in Community Creations

Posted by: ChyldeMyst.5098

ChyldeMyst.5098

I was just thinking of how the community did it in my old MMO. It becomes very difficult to follow a single character if every character’s journal is under the same thread; I have six characters, and I’ve seen some people out there claim as many as twenty. I can’t even color-code the entries so people can just scroll down until they see the background or text color they want. Basically, I didn’t want everybody’s stories to get buried and lost, and having a forum in “Community Content” devoted just to in-character writings would ensure that those stories are easy to find.

Requesting a new Sub-forum

ChyldeMyst.5098

How does one request a new sub-forum? Community Creations is awesome for art, but I’d love a “Character Journal” sub-forum where we could keep a sort of in-character log or diary. I know that’s a very popular tool for roleplayers. We use them to develop our characters and to find other roleplayers with whom we might want to interact.

So can we have one?

Honestly, I prefer the caster classes or thief at range. Dual pistol thief is pretty straightforward, and any staff-caster has absurd range.

That being said, my favourite class overall is Necro, and I think it’s a good starting class. Mechanics are fairly easy to learn, and a well-kitted Necro is a BEAST.

I want the Sylvari faces and bodies to stop having default green or brown patterns on them. Give us a second “pattern color” selector or something, but I’m tired of all my Sylvari being forced to have green accents on their skin. Especially in the faces, where it seems like the default lip color is green on over half of them.

Also, I’d like to see some more Sylvari hairstyles. In particular, longer styles. Straight ones could be made of long strands of ornamental-style grass or of heavy leaves like iris or daffodil leaves. Curly styles could be made of cascading blossoms like wisteria or amaranth. Even Spanish moss would make an awesome texture for Sylvari hair. It drives me crazy that the only long styles available are the one-sided fluffy one and the ponytail. Can I wear Ranger armor on my thief? Can I wear thief armor on my ranger?

If the answer is no. Then I say NO to your suggestion.

Whyever not? We have race-specific armor, and I think that’s wonderful. I wish we had more of it. Class-specific armor would just be another way to make sure your character doesn’t look like every other character out there, especially now that the wardrobe lets classes use each others’ starter gear. (Granted, the wraith mask looks AWESOME on my Mesmer….)

At some point, a little class/race exclusivity adds flavor and makes things unique.

Expansion significance to the story

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

ChyldeMyst.5098

Well, no part of the Maguuma Wastes looked like the area they bombarded with the fleet. So that has to be in the new area. Caithe’s still on the run with the egg, a HUGE chunk of the Pact is scattered across the jungle after the failed assault, and Mordy’s still waking up down there. Obviously, we’re going to spend S3 continuing to battle Mordremoth, tracking Glint’s egg, and scraping up what’s left of Trahearne’s command and Destiny’s Edge from the Heart of Maguuma.

EDIT: Unless, that is, those are part of a new personal story that comes with the expansion, and they start something TOTALLY new for LS3. After all, we still have Kralkatorrik, Jormag, Primordus, and an unnamed water dragon running around out there too.

I would LOVE to see more race-specific content, and not just for the Sylvari. I REALLY hope that they work something in for us at least in terms of how NPCs interact with Sylvari characters, if not in separate story content. And then, in a couple seasons when we go after Kralkatorrik and/or Jormag, there could be special racial content for the Norn and the Charr. Asura could get special content when we battle Primordus, and we’ll work humans in when the Water Dragon is revealed – maybe the return of Cantha, or something about searching for the missing human gods. They’ve gone to so much trouble to make rich cultures and backgrounds for each race, I think it would be a shame if they didn’t take it any farther.

But that hardly even mattered – I was getting two-shotted by the exploding bulbs and the claw attack. And once I was in a downed state, the targeted attacks came too fast for me to get back up. I read that translation, and all I could think of was the poem Ozymandias by Percy Byron Shelley

I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them on the sand,
Half sunk, a shatter’d visage lies, whose frown
And wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamp’d on these lifeless things,
The hand that mock’d them and the heart that fed.
And on the pedestal these words appear:
“My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!”
Nothing beside remains: round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

[Suggestions] Gemstore Items

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ChyldeMyst.5098

ChyldeMyst.5098

Oh, man. The things I’d like to buy.

1.) A transmution stone that can turn armour into town clothes.

2.) A wider variety of racially themed, non-costume town clothes. Seriously, all the non-starter town clothing available is human, and most of it is themed costumes like “pirate” and “cook”. What Krytan noble would be caught DEAD walking around town in jodhpurs or an apron? What Sylvari would choose human manufactured clothing over homegrown? What Charr would trust a human tailor?

3.) Weapon skins that aren’t cartoonishly huge. I HATE trying to find weapons for some of my smaller toons, because half the dagger skins are as long as my elementalist’s arm and as wide as her waist. I’ve only found about five greatsword skins that I can believe my Hunter would be able to lift. Offer me a weapon that’s actually scaled to my character’s size and doesn’t look like it was imported from Final Fantasy or a foam boffer LARP, and I will happily pay for it.

4.) Voice sets. I hadn’t even thought about this until I saw it here, but oh my god yes. Variety is the spice of life, and in most mass battles I can’t even tell who’s shouting. I have five other human female necros declaring themselves to be “death incarnate” in the same voice – I have to check my tool bar to see if it was me when one laments the death of a minion.

5.) Roleplay support items. Please? You promised us housing back when the game was new. I would buy furniture and wallpaper and floor tiles and paint and wall art and exterior decorations. I would prefer if some of these items were craftable in game, but I’d totally pay for specialty items and objets d’art. I’d buy non-combat-related animations for my character, and items that let me turn my minis loose on my property, and resource nodes – limited use or permanent – for my “garden”… you would not BELIEVE how stupid roleplayers are about spending money on items to create believable personal environments. Give us houses and see how much we’ll spend to make them into homes.

The Total Feedback Thread: Nightmare Within

Am I the only person who likes Scarlet as a villain? I see a LOT of potential in the whole Sylvari story and the mystery of their background , and can totally understand how the creepy hive-mind-cult culture creates a higher-than-average percentage of psychotics and sociopaths.

Achievements

Not too painful. I’m more of a casual player, owing to the fact that I’m a stay-at-home mother and a full-time college student. I was able to knock out Tower of Nightmares in 3 days flat and still turn in my assignments on time. ^.^

Rewards

Eh. Honestly, I wasn’t impressed. The gas mask helmet skin is unique, but a lot of the reward sets lately have been very steam-punk and sci-fi, and I’m kind of missing the classic fantasy flavour. The mini Krait for running the final dungeon was adorable, but even it wasn’t worth the cost, both figurative and literal, of scaling that tower multiple times.

Gameplay

Excruciating. As I said, I’m more of a casual player, because I don’t have hours upon hours to devote every week. And for a casual player in a small, casual guild, the gameplay was HORRIBLE. I started this Living Story release with 20 gold and 9 repair canisters in the bank. Even with rewards, loot drops, and selling rares I couldn’t use, I finished the achievement with 12 gold and NO repair canisters in the bank. The respawn rates and percentage of elites make this impossible to complete without a group or zerg, and pugging is a crapshoot. There’s no telling if the bunch of people mowing along behind the current commander tag will bother to help you, or if they’ll just kite their aggro onto you and keep going. I appreciate that you’re trying to make content that encourages players to work together, but content that requires a large cooperative group becomes a very expensive proposition for any but the most hardcore players.

Story

I seem to be in the minority that’s enjoying the Scarlet story arc. I can’t for the life of me figure out how ONE Sylvari can orchestrate the kinds of alliances and schemes she’s been throwing at us, and she makes the Nightmare Court look like the Cleavers. I love not knowing what she’s doing next, or how she’s doing it, or why she’s doing it. I just hope that, when we finally reach the end of this arc, there’s a good solid explanation that totally blows my mind. Don’t let me down, writers!

Favorite Element

The story. As I said before, I love the whole Sylvari racial background, and I’m really enjoying the Scarlet arc. I just hope the actual content that goes with the story is less frustrating next time.

Least Favorite Element

The rewards. Honestly, there was absolutely NOTHING to get excited about in the rewards for this release. The mini’s cute, but I don’t have the inventory slots to spare to tote it around with me. The gas mask is something that I’ll never use; I went with a classic fantasy theme for all my toons, and a steampunk gas mask doesn’t fit that. The composite key idea for the final chest is neat, and I hope we see it elsewhere, but getting to the chest is so expensive for me that nothing I get out of it is worth the effort. In the future I’d like to see more variety available in final rewards, maybe a choice among several themed items. I completed this release because I’m enjoying the story arc, but I wish I had something better to show for it than an ugly skin I’ll never use and a hole in my bank account.

ChyldeMyst.5098

Honestly, I joined GW2 for three reasons.

1.) The animation and scenery were beautiful. I loved the artistic way in which it was rendered.

2.) Character customization was extremely detailed.

3.) MOST IMPORTANT: The pre-release interviews and reveals promised customizable PLAYER HOUSING. Before GW2, my main MMO was Star Wars Galaxies. Star Wars Galaxies had massive in-game support for ROLEPLAYERS. Exquisitely customizable housing in which players could create genuine works of art with how they assembled the decor items. Player vendors. An extensive variety of normal clothing as well as armor. Professions that didn’t require combat to advance. A genuine player-driven economy with luxury items for roleplay support that were constantly in demand. The game had its flaws, but it supported roleplayers in a way unprecedented in MMOs and not seen since. I THOUGHT, based on the pre-release promises, that GW2 would offer similar support for roleplayers (or at least a decent housing system that would offer more than a place to store your useless crap), but thus far it has offered us nothing. Not even a way to turn off the auto-toggle that switches us from town clothes to armor if we fall off a roof.

I’ve been playing for over a year and seen not one single release that actually targets the roleplay community. At least WvW gets an annual tournament. Some of us play MMOs to create characters and tell stories, not just slaughter mobs and accrue wealth. Give us a home too.

That sodding clocktower nearly reduced me to tears. Next year it needs to be a solo instance, because it’s the only event I’ve ever encountered in any game where failure is pretty well guaranteed for at least half the pack if more than three people are running it. It rapidly becomes impossible to see where your next jump is supposed to land if there are more than three people in there. I just spent two solid hours running up that clock, always failing at the EXACT SAME POINT because I couldn’t see around the crowd to make the jumps, and by the time they cleared so I COULD see, I was underwater (or slime).

This is the ONLY Hallowe’en achievement I’ve been unable to complete, and my highest level character is only 53. I think that says more about this event than it does about me.

I was a hardcore RPer in my first MMO. Since it went under a year ago, I’ve had a very hard time RPing in MMOs because they don’t have a lot of RP supporting features. Now, a lot of those (like dynamic player housing), are covered in other places in this forum, so I’m going to add just a few items here.

1.) Remove auto-toggle for town clothing: it drives me absolutely scatty when I’m running around in town clothes, fall off a bridge, take a few points of damage, and stand up in my armour. Please remove the auto-toggle for this. If need be, make it a bindable key toggle, but I HATE being automatically switched back and forth.

2.) Town Clothing Transmutation Stone: I would LOVE to wear certain armour sets as Town Clothing. Right now I have no option to do so. Please give us a transmutation stone that can turn armour items into town clothing.

3.) Nameable/trainable Minis: It took me weeks to figure out that “minis” were vanity pets. I love that, but I can’t NAME my pets, or teach them tricks. I would love it if we could give our minis names, and teach them stupid little tricks. ((I desperately want a dancing pygmy moa for my Mesmer.))

4.) Equip slot for Minis: Making us carry them around in our inventory and double-click them to take them out is annoying. Give us a slot on our Hero screen where we can equip a mini if we want to keep it constantly active. Pretty please?

- Remove auto-switch between town clothes and armour upon taking damage (it makes me CRAZY when I’m running around in town clothes, fall off a bridge, and stand up wearing my armour)

- More varieties of town clothing available from karma vendors, or craftable by tailors/leatherworkers/armoursmiths

- Short “bio” section where you can write a bio/description for your character, which will be visible to people who inspect you (this obviously would require the proposed /inspect function)

I have to admit… I haven’t even noticed this. Granted, my highest-level character is only 31, because I’m levelling all 5 of my characters simultaneously and juggling a real life as a stay-at-home mom and college student at the same time. And I’ve only explored about 15% of the map, all totalled. But I really haven’t noticed any diminishing returns on my rampages of gory mayhem. I think perhaps those of you troubled by this simply rushed through your levels too quickly.

(EDIT FOR CLARIFICATION) I don’t know if my low levels or my incomplete exploration are responsible for me not noticing the diminishing returns. My remark is intended to the effect that those who are complaining about diminishing returns have rushed through the available content so quickly that gathering loot and raising funds are all they have left to do. I also don’t know if this is true, it’s just what I’m inferring.

Basen.8506: I don’t understand why it has to be instanced? 1house per account, 2 million accounts atm divide among 40-50 servers, leaves50.000 houses per world. I don’t really see any difficulty in having 50.000 in this massive world, just don’t make it a cluster fk.

No. Nonononono! One house per account is just about the WORST idea in a long list of things they could do to screw up housing. One house per character is the minimum I would consider to be reasonable, for the very simple reason that our characters aren’t all iterations of the same person, and may have absolutely no reason to know each other or live together. My Charr would never live in human lands, nor my Thief and my Elementalist decorate their homes in the same way. One house per account is the perfect way to render a home totally useless for roleplaying purposes, because you can only set it up to cater to ONE of your alts. One house per account is the biggest reason I gave up on LotRO housing.

On a totally unrelated topic, when I mentioned theming housing regions after races, I didn’t mean that only Sylvari could live in the Sylvari region. I just meant with regard to appearance. Though I’d frankly LOVE to see what a private sylvari residence looks like. And I’d also like to see a variety of different house styles – small cottages or huts, mansions, villas, towers, bowers, grottoes, mausoleums, whatever your fancy, and a wide variety of furnishings to complement them. With the option to alter colours and textures on walls, floors, and furnishings. >.> Not that I’m asking much.

Housing?

I was giving this some thought the other day, and the “broken” portals in Lion’s Arch gave me an idea. What if, when housing was ready, these portals were fixed? And each one led to a housing region themed after one of the five races? That way we could have entire open maps for free-range house and guild hall placement a la SWG, without cluttering up the questing landscape. And since Lion’s Arch is sort of the hub of all regions, it would just be one or two quick teleports to get from anywhere in Tyria to a housing neighborhood.

The only thing I’m having trouble solving with regard to this idea is how to deal with an inevitable housing crunch. Maybe having multiple similar regions on each portal, and when you walk through it you’re presented with a menu of destinations?
