I doubt you’re going to get anywhere with this when your consensus seems to be that 50-70% of thief traits/skills need buffing. Even if a dev reads your discussions, that lack of objectivity is likely to put them off engaging in a dialogue.

In all fairness, for a long time at least 60% of the thief profession was lackluster and there were some things that nobody used in any part of the game for any reason except to max something. Our worst was pre-spec Hard to Catch which had a moderate chance to put you in the middle of an enemy zerg without removing the stun that sets it off. It was considered the worst trait in the game.

I disagree with the “lack of objectivity” you seem to think the SoTs have, however. The standard criteria for their suggestions from my understanding is to address any major issues that keep players from using it or create a standard of viability and evaluate those that do not meet said standard. Then the group would suggest buffs and discuss what will solve the issue.

All those buffs that they suggested actually did what [Teef] was striving for. They wanted to set standards in all parts of the profession and bring everything to those standards. For example, the only reason why nobody uses venoms outside venomshare is because the way venoms are designed around Venomous Aura is terrible. So their solution was to make them place effectless combo fields on activation. I mean that alone turns Venoms into something you can use that you don’t really NEED to trait for it to work in a build. Its basically puts them on Caltrops level where you can use it in any build and it will still work.

Do you understand where I am coming from?

The venoms suggestion was actually one of the things that made me dismiss the POI threads in the first place. Giving thief (the profession with the most spammable finishers) access to all the combo fields without even mentioning the dangers of this being ridiculously overpowered display a lack of objectivity. I’ve no doubt that these threads come from a desire to improve the game, but I do not think (from what I’ve seen) that they come from individuals that have a good grasp of balance within the game as a whole.

A hypothetical map full of 150 guardians could all do about 1.6 million times their usually damage while standing in symbols… exponential functions are fun!

Ignoring that game breaking bug, I think Feel My Wrath needs to be toned down in some manner: probably by increasing its cool-down to that of individual quickness utilities (about 60s).

Another nice addition for casual runs is distortion sharing (if you’re running inspiration). You can use this to save people dodging Alpha’s AoE, Tazza’s AoE, Malrona’s poison etc. It does things that a Guardian’s Aegis cannot as it will protect nullify multiple hits in the 1s window.

I had lot of fun playing revenant in the beta, and this skills in particular was a blast. It turns out that while the camera locks in place your character moves and returns. This allows a few amusing tricks:

- Discover PoTs and the like from afar by phase smashing in their general direction.
- Phase smash into environmental bundles and pick them up from range.
- Escape AoEs by phase smashing away from them.

If the functionality remains the same when HoT comes around, I foresee a lot of fun on the horizon.

I’m going out on a limb and speculating the thief specialization will be an empty offhand duelist type style. The two empty off-hand skills could be universal, while the dual-skill would be main hand specific, though probably not the current single wield skills. The class mechanic could let Steal alter the off-hand skills in some way (maybe steal permanent moves which change depending on who you steal from).

Clloydio.3524

Hello,

Excessum is an experienced PvX guild based on the Desolation server. We are looking for experienced members to bolster our ranks ahead of the upcoming expansion pack.

What we are looking for:
- Experienced players, who know their class. We have no interest in breaking records, but we do like to be efficient when running content.
- Players interested in group content. We intend to partake in whatever content ArenaNet throws our way.

What we offer:
- Weekly Guild Missions (Bounty, Puzzle, Rush and Challenge). We are currently capped on merits, so guild missions are all about commendations!
- An active mumble server. We like to use voice communications for group content. It is not essential that members use mumble, but it is encouraged.
- Experienced guildies to play with. We know our way around all the PvE content, and we have many enthusiastic PvPers amongst our ranks as well.

If you would like any further information, feel free to whisper me in game.

I expect they have checked, it would surely be a simple thing to do.

Wouldn’t then the next simple step to do would be to release a quick statement? You know…. since we are talking simply here.

I imagine they are wary of releasing any statements about drop rates, particularly if they are working as intended. ANet don’t want people knowing the percentages, so they can’t indicate whether or not these data are representative. That means that any statement they release would be fairly uninformative (a long the lines of “drop rates are working fine”) and perhaps unlike to appease those frustrated with fractals.

Clloy. These are dungeon guilds. They don’t run with pugs.

And they checked?

Tell that to the Final Rest debacle of 2012.

A few of the data specifically state they are PUG runs. Other may have involved PUGging a fifth. With such low percentages every datum counts.

I might be wrong about them checking and the drop rates may indeed be bugged. I just don’t see a reason (these data included) currently to see that as likely.

If the data is reliant on user input there it is subject to unintentional bias. When is an individual more likely to remember to document their run: when they have got a drop or when they are frustrated at getting nothing?

Even assuming their data is reliable, the only thing it proves at a 95% confidence interval is that ascended weapons and fractals skins have had their drop rates reduced. While this may be frustrating for some, it does not contradict the patch notes. I personally think the increased drops of armour make up for this.

You’re missing one vital point in this data. The point being: it’s the best we have. If you can show me different data collection that says otherwise, we can probably discuss it further. For now, all we have is our own experiences and this particular study that has been done. One the side note, it takes only 1 person from each group to enter in the data since everyone pings their drops at the end.

…and what if a PUG doesn’t ping their drop? It only takes a few dodgy pieces of data to completely fudge up a data collection exercise like this. One person not entering their data correctly or being selective in the data they enter throws off the percentages significantly.

I not trying to criticize the guilds who collected this data, their efforts are commendable. However, one always has to be wary of data collected in this manner.

How was the sample in the OP collected? Was it random? If it is reliant on individuals inputting after each run then that will be problematic.

It certainly looks as though ascended weapons have had their drop rates lowered, but the sample size is not big enough to tell (at a 95% confidence interval) whether or not ascended gear is dropping more or less now. This is the 41-50 bracket, the only one with any significant pre-patch data.

The 200 runs that I mention are my personal experience. the 1600 chests open were from 4 guilds inputting their results. Here are the details of how they did it: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Fractal-drops-were-broken-on-the-3-18-patch/first#post3939558

Clloydio.3524

I feel it’s important to emphasise the problems that the new system makes for guild missions that others have highlighted. Taxiing and competing for events starts made today’s missions most stressful for my guild.

The Problems

- Guild members must all be taxied into the same map.
- Any guild member can activate missions on any version of the map, potentially stopping the rest of the guild getting credit on a different instance of the map.
- Guild challenge only credits the activating guild, meaning guilds are having to compete to start it. I highlight this point with an example from today: it took me five relogs to find an Blazeridge Steppes that didn’t have Blightwater Shatterstrike already active.

Possible Solutions

- Improve the system that ensures guild members end up on the same map (perhaps easier said than done).
- Adjust “Mission Control” rank privileges so that only guild members of a rank with this ticked can activate bounties, rushes, challenges and puzzles. Even better would be if this rank were also required to accept credit for missions completed with other guilds (that way one lone individual can’t claim credit on a rush or tag a bounty and stop everyone else from doing it).
- Instance missions.
- Relax guild mission participation restrictions, eg allow people arriving late to a bounty to talk to the NPC for credit or allow multiple guilds to do the same challenge event.

I really hope some solutions are identified soon for these issues; we’ve already had guild members announce that they intend to not bother with missions for the foreseeable future as a result of the megaserver issues and it would be a great shame to see them peter out in my guild.

Megaservers and Guild Missions

I’m the guild leader of a large EU (Desolation) guild. We do guild missions twice a week and have members of multiple nationalities. The megaserver system is raising two main issues for us:

- The guild is split when we join a map. Consequently we have to join up in one map via slightly awkward party hopping. In today’s mission we had two people activate Trillia in two different Fields of Ruins: only one group got credit.

- Guild mission activation can still be done by anyone in the guild. This is a larger issue now as we could have members who are not aware of what is going on activate missions on a different overflow to ours as we are taxiing into the map. We had to kick someone today for starting a mission before people are there: it’s not a pleasant experience and makes what is generally a fun guild event a bit of an organisational minefield.

Hopefully something can be done about these issues. I suspect they will be a significant barrier to guilds completing guild world bosses as well.

Given that the link between standard WvW and EotM is fairly minimal, could it be divorced entirely from standard WvW? If players (or parties) joined a random side it would serve to even out the population on each map considerably. At the moment on the EU servers Overgrowth is dominating every matchup without fail, presumably (I may be wrong here) because Seafarer’s Rest is currently green. I really enjoy EotM, but two weeks of getting zerged repeatedly by Green takes its toll.

We will have to wait and see what the cost to start an event is, but my guild should be willing to start them in the EU for any large groups that want to try for it.

This levels the playing field a little for those that are trying to catch up on the achievement leader-boards. That (I imagine) is why the changes are being implemented.; it’s the same reason that other infinite achievement point sources are capped.

It doesn’t help you. It limits your ability to catch up. For a player that already has 10k daily points; no longer has to make the effort to keep doing them, like you do, to maintain a lead. If and when you get to 10,000 daily points, you already lost. This is because he has been playing longer, earned more temp content points, and has a minimal chance of falling behind on new AP because he does not have to make a daily effort.

No-one has to make a daily effort: that’s the point. They can just play for enjoyment rather than grind. Those 10k will come eventually for everyone if they keep playing.

Pretty much everyone I’ve heard from thinks this is a positive change. Clearly you disagree, but on the whole any change that most people get behind is likely to be good for the long-term health of the game.

So now the argument is nobody has to make a daily effort?

Pretty much everyone? says who? you? I don’t claim to be in the majority I cant possibly measure, and don’t need to pretend so to make points. If your point is “everyone likes it” is a pretty weak point considering you have no substantiation.

I thought we were just talking about catching up in context that there was a competition on the leader-boards. With that logic nobody has to make an effort to do anything… still doesn’t explain why we are capped. “Those 10k will come eventually for everyone” will come with or without a cap.

Why should players be restricted after 10k? Seems to be the question nobody can answer.

Everyone I’ve spoken to. I’m not claiming that’s a statistically significant sample size, but it’s enough to convince me that this is generally viewed as a good thing.

With a cap, catching up on the daily achievements is a possibility; without it doing so is not. The achievement points leader-boards will be a lot more fun if the points separating the top end come are unique achievements rather than team queue dailies people with the most time have farmed out. The changes will also reduce the time pressures on ANet to create additional high-level AP rewards.

It is regrettable that you are not happy about this, but if the only people that aren’t fond of this change are those who enjoy doing all the dailies (and getting 1AP for each) then I think ANet will view the cap as a relative success.

I echo the call for sorting out dredge, and think this should be the #1 priority for future fractals work. I have another proposal below.

Proposal Overview
Add an achievement category for doing different instabilities.
Goal of Proposal
People only tend to do the ‘easy’ instabilities at the moment. 36/37 and 49/50.
Proposal Functionality
An achievement category would be added to the Fractals section with players gaining progress towards an achievement for each fractal instability they have completed. This would encourage players to at least sample each of the instabilities in the game.
Associated Risks
Once the achievement was completed people would probably revert to the easier instabilities once again.

As a guild leader, I cannot run my guild within the existing structure of the game. God help me, but I may have to resort to Excel spreadsheets, and endless database querying from third party websites tied to Guild Wars 2 in order to do my job.

I don’t disagree with anything you’ve said, but you can measure inactivity using the leaderboards. Hovering over each member will let you know the last time they gained an achievement point; which is a pretty good metric for activity given how easily individual achievement points can be obtained via dailies.
