Hey All,
question, is anyone else experiencing and or know if illusionary wave is bugged?
My issue, or when I noticed it was in Vale Guardian fight, i’d knock back a red orb, the orb would then, after a second or 2, go back to the original spot of initial knockback. Happened 2 or 3 times to me.
anyone else?

sorry to bring back an old topic,
but why does Rousing Resilience trigger with balance stance and not other stun break skills like shake it off or endure pain. And does head butt elite need to actually land to personally get stunned and trigger Rousing Resilience?
Short answer: yes.
Long answer: careful, you might start another “viable” argument.Open-world: condi is very viable.
Dungeons: meta is alacrity chronomancer, what you bring after that is just gravy. You can run condi if you want, and you’ll be just fine. There’s a solid argument in power’s favor, but since your personal dps is supplementary, and condi dps is decent, you’ll be fine. The only exception is reflect-heavy paths, where Assassins will dramatically outperform, and condi-hostile paths (like some Arah paths).
Raids: See Dungeons. If you do roll condi in dungeons, though, absolutely use Sinister gear over the traditional Rabid. Not only does rabid make you more of an aggro target, but you need the extra power in order to damage objects (like graveling burrows). Fun fact: objects can’t be crit, so Sinister technically does the same damage as Power (minus trait/rune/sigil bonuses).
For a trait setup, I’d say Dueling/Illusions/Chrono is not optional. iDuelist is the only competitive condi phantasm, and that requires Dueling. Illusions is obv necessary for the shatter condis, and chrono is part of your premise (and is why you’re being brought in the dungeon anyway).
For weapons, I’d recommend Scepter/Pistol+Staff. If you want to go heavier into support, swap pistol for shield and use Staff clones/shatters as your primary condi application, swapping to shield to Tides of Time the raid.
For open-world PvE, condi Staff is one of the best soloing weapons in the game. I have so far managed to solo every champ I’ve come across in the HoT zones with my staff, sometimes even under reasonable trash mob pressure (heavy trash mobs makes it really tough). For dungeons/raids, staff clones are a much-needed backup in case your phantasms keep drawing aggro and getting squished, and staff is an essential defensive weapon if you’re relying on pistol instead of shield (since you lost all those defensive traits from Chaos).
For gear I’m still recommending Sinister, as it combines all the best stats (power for objects, precision for reflects, condi because you’re a condi build). I haven’t played around with Viper yet, but it’s possible Viper will outperform (especially with the nerf to condi duration food), though your reflects will be even weaker on it. Maybe a mix would be good.
For Runes, top competitors are Nightmare (with a Rampagers Orb in the 6th slot) and Berserker. More accessible options (read: cheap) are Undead and Krait, but do your math before you use them, because Krait might be overfilling on your condi duration and Undead won’t be netting you as much extra condi damage without Rabid gear.
Nightmare was the uncontested winner for Sinister before HoT in my opinion, but that 5%/5% from Berserker is…really tasty (fyi, the 5% damage affects reflects like Scholar does, but without the 90% health requirement that Scholar does).
Wow ty everyone for all the info. much appreciated.
Think I might try Duelling (3-1-3), Illusions (2-3-1), chrono (2/3-3-1)
Hey All,
Probably a silly question. I’ve always run mesmer condi builds, always loved them. Love shatter but nothing like a good condi.
Does playing in PvE seem viable to run a condi chrono with phantasm focus?
so like either Inspiration/Illusion/Chrono or say Dueling/illusion/Chrono. If so what would you recommend for weapons for both options?
Cheers.
As others have said, for roaming, unless you really enjoy having anyone with a brain just run away from you, you need to make sure you take appropriate weapons, which unfortunately aren’t the most optimal in terms of condition pressure (e.g. sword). Even then, if someone really wants to get away they probably will. This is why GS is such a good weapon for roaming, it is very hard for someone to get away from you.
Basically if you really want to go full condi as a roamer, get used to not getting to finish a lot of your fights and not being able to chase someone. Of course, it is totally sensible to give up some dmg for increased ability to chase, just be aware of the choice.
I don’t let them run away
No. People who don’t play PU condi never get those messages.
You get them for a number of reasons but mostly because of what Jurica said “Condi mesmer in PvP is not good simply”.But thats weird, cuz and the most situations when i get this message is when i kill some1 in a hot join, then the rage begins. I am used to get those messages as a condi ranger too, but not as much im getting now with the mesmer ;p
I’ll have to agree with WilnerGW on this one. I get those hate messages constantly when I run my condi PU mesmer to change it up here and there. May not be viable or “the meta” but i’ll say this, people have one hell of a time trying to kill me when I do run that condi pu. Sure enjoying reading the messages after killing them all
Shatter I personally like in PvE. If built right you can give yourself CRAZY amounts of might which is good for boss fights.
If you’re using shatter, you’re making an enormous mistake.
I like, i don’t play :p
def not a mesmer noob, been playing it since day 2.
time played doesn’t mean anything
i have an rl friend who is in silver 4 in league and was silver the past two seasons while i hit plat 5 a couple days ago when i’ve only been playing for like 4 months
some people just never learn or never bother to learn
so your calling me a noob just because I like something? lol
or was I suppose to bow down to you oh holy one because you hit platinum in 5 days? lol.

Glamour builds have been obsolete for a long time though. Regardless of what you could do with them now and then, they’ve been objectively worse than other builds in every single style of play since the nerf.
I don’t play glamour builds but I’ll have to disagree with this. Viable or not this game is to be played whie have fun; its a game
. If he/she chooses to play glamour builds because its fun for him/her there should be no reason to say he shouldn’t be playing it because its not viable. My build in no way is viable. But it works for me.
I’m speechless. I love it…… i may join Necrotize in the cry fest.
If you didn’t need Traveler runes, Defender is already AMAZEBALLS with Mantra healing and would probably make any specific Mantra-themed runes obsolete in comparison.
does it work with heal on mantra cast using restorative mantra’s? or only actual heal skills?
Mesmer takes twice the skill to play for half the result, compared to other classes.
I think your looking at this the wrong way.
Players have different skill levels. Playing a higher skills class and being good at it is the reward. If you put a new MMO player in your build your using how efficient will they be compared to say running a lb/gs ranger build or something? Prob not very viable at all. Most MMO’s have different professions @ different skill levels.
I choose to play mesmer because of the skill required to master it, i’d fall asleep rolling any other profession.
I think my initial setup will be scepter/torch + sword/shield with traveler zerk but i fell in the end i’ll be switching sword/shield for staff and going condi.
If I don’t run sig of insp once It gets perma swift then i’m same page running my travellers. If i do run sig then i’ll prob go nightmare runes. Sigil similar, energy/doom. only thing i prob won’t do is celestial. Guess depends how “adjusted base stats” will affect celestial overall. As of now i think it will be weak again. If that’s the case i’ll prob go rabid/dire mix or full zerker. depending on scenario.
Scepter/Focus + Sword/Shield has been on my mind since they announced the chrono. However staff keeps pecking me in the back of the head in which I think i’d part from a chrono build. Tough. will have to try both.
i use DE IRL all the time.
teehee
totally going Chaos Shield.
Seconds would be disproportionately strong for low cd skills, and disproportionately strong for high cd skills.
If it’s strong for both low and high cd skills, then I don’t see your point.
it’s a typo. he meant low for the high CD skills.
After the stream it’s official. My three builds will be:
Dom/Duel/Chaos – Interrupt (Sword+Focus / Staff )
Dom/Chaos/Chrono – Lockdown (Sword+Shield / Staff )
Chaos/Inspir/Chrono – Support (Sword+Shield / Staff)
… Jeez, I’d love to go Sword+Sword / Pistol+Shield.
And at some point I’ll try out that awesome new pistol trait
:( but I really really want to go Sword+Shield / Scepter/Torch :|
I’d call this combo the triple MOA :p
I agree with Pyro; Only way to balance it would be with %.
sword/shield + staff. Dom, Chaos, Chrono. Wells, Interrupts, alacrity, slow, quickness.
Think i’m on the same page, been thinking about it all day and originally went from Sword/Shield + Scepter/Torch to Sword/Shield + Staff.
have a feeling sword/shield & Scepter/torch will be the go to eliminating dual hand weapons. But I guess time will tell.
see what I did there? TIME will tell………..teehee.
Clone build’s simply aren’t a viable option
however if it fits your play style it can be more viable than other options depending on how the person utilizes it.
many will agree if it works for you then its the most viable play option.
No matter what anyone else says, no matter what positive spin people try to put on it, Thieves are getting even stronger and we will still have no way to deal with them. Short of receiving active stealth-canceling abilities, Mesmer is and will remain a “PvP-centric” profession that can’t PvP because we are effectively deleted from the game by another profession.
Thank you.
I eat Thieves for breakfast. You must just be bad mesmers :p
I don’t play the meta not because i’d call myself a rebel but because I personally for my PLAY STYLE have always played clone death. For the last 6-8 months I’ve run a 4/4/6/0/0 with CD & DD and I’ve been more than successful with it. I’m not upset because they removed the traits, I’m upset they removed the play style. If someone want’s to keep clones and or phantasm up that is their choice. Forcing players to shatter removed the choice the player has. Yes technically I can still refuse to do so but now that becomes non viable.
I do agree it was bugged that unintentional kills/death but summoning a new clone was a little uneven but a fix would be a better result than to remove the option and play style.
a Commander needs to be selfish. you need to ensure you stay alive. If your dead you and your zerg become useless. So if you know you can stay alive as a power shatter then all the power to ya. But there are more viable options to ensure you stay alive pulling away from full shatter.
If you aren’t yet set up to record now’s a great time to sort yourself out!
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/Guide-How-to-make-a-half-decent-vid/first#
But im so lazy. Can you come over and help me set it up
Your right, not sure why i said RM I must have been thinking of something else.Yes, using RM or not, all runes that have an “on heal” effect currently proc when channeling mantra of recovery as well as the resulting power return heals.
No doubt mes is best paired with asuras. They even have racial skills that do confusion and 3 sec daze. I sitll regret making human mesmer until this day. Too much investment to change char now.
Technobabble is more fun in a MoC zerker ranger build – perhaps GS+SB, going for those interrupts/dazes and massive maul damage.
agreed with viable option for Ranger.
With Mantra of Recovery and using the Restorative Mantra trait. If i were to use the Rune of Dwayna will the 6th rune proc on both the charge and the cast (assuming I wait the 10 sec cooldown of the 6th rune)?

If your referring to Pain Inverter I personally feel is useless. No offense. If you like it all the power to you. As far as Technobabble, that is something i’d maybe use only because of the 3s daze however personally I think the Mantra for daze is still better. But that’s just my opinion.
Can’t wait to watch this after work today. Contrary to all the comments and replies with the famous “oh look ANOTHER shatter video” its the presentation that counts. Love your video’s. Keep up the good work
Here’s an example that might help clarify.
You have Air on (mainhand) Sword and Fire on Torch. You swing at an enemy with your sword attacks. Both Air and Fire trigger even though you’re not using any skills on the Torch.
You switch to your other weapon, a Staff with Energy and Hydromancy. Your Air and Fire sigils from your Sword/Torch set won’t trigger while you’re using the Staff.
TY. I am familiar with on swap. Just wasn’t sure if the duration bonus sigil’s had same rule.
I’ll wait for someone else to record it :p got better things to do with my time. I need to maximize it playing as RL work limits my time. yes its probably just one click to start recording but its the time to install and upload i don’t have time for
ok ty. Have the peril on the Torch however the sword is what gives the vulnerability so I wanted to confirm i didn’t lose out on its effect.
Question. Hopefully not a dumb one.
When putting a sigil on a weapon set with 2 weapons. ex. Sword/Torch. Does the sigil apply to the weapon set or that weapon only?
Ex. Sigil of Peril gives 20% vulnerability Duration. Would that be applicable to the set or weapon only that its on?
I’ve had this happen to me every so often, always figured it to just be lag as I mostly do WvW however as of late it has been happening way more. I’d say minimum 2-3 times a day for me now.
Just something to note:
Given 5 trait lines, a max of 6 trait points per line, and a max of 14 trait points total …
… there are 1,420 possible trait point allocations.

Better get on that theorycrafting … especially once Specializations get factored in :-p
lol awesome. P.S. Row 1029 and 1056 are my fav :p
Use this in a match where people are smart enough to insta target you and you’re dead in seconds or you’re dealing 0 damage due that you’re standing on range spamming 1 staff all by yourself.
How is this any different for power shatter? You’ve got even less resilience in a power build than you do in a build using rabid.
Ultimately, since mesmer is not viable at the top level, ‘viable’ is simply a reflection of what works. If you’re able to play a build successfully at an appropriate level, then that build is viable.
I personally used to play tPvP quite a bit, and I played PU conditions almost exclusively. You’ll hear lots of moaning about how that isn’t viable. I maintained my place in the top 100 of solo queue and the top 150 soloing in team queue with relative ease, not really pushing hard for those spots. Therefor, PU conditions is viable at that level.
Any mesmer build (that actually works) is viable at any level except the very top if you’re competent and skilled enough to use it in an appropriate manner.
Agree 100% with your logic. My thinking is the same.
Yes on paper your right. FACT more burst, more DPS more pressure. But it doesn’t make the build better than a condi shatter if the end user can utilize its skills, utilities and traits to his/her play style.
Not trying to say I’m an expert but its a FACT that if you can’t adapt to a certain build due to your play style then find a build that matches your play style.
not to mention only a nub would stand still. So if your saying you know this personally when you play condi shatter than maybe your opinion should be void :p
My point is that power shatter is much better than condi shatter. Seeing mesmer is already quite a poor class in the current meta, using a build that is weaker than the best is pretty close to unviable.
I disagree. If someone is good at a certain play style compared to another how would that make one build better than another? You make your own build viable with what works best for your play style and because of that stating that power shatter is more “meta” than condi is farse in my opinion.
I play both power and condi shatter (depending on who i’m playing with). I find personally I can survive a 3v1 on my condi than my power. Does it take me longer to finish that fight. Yes. but for my play style condi shatter works wonders for me particularly. May be different for you.

Hey Noss,
nice video. Personally I’m with Ross in the armor. I think your losing out to much by using celestial. I’d personally go rabid but if you want more survivability then go Dire.
Also on the Scepter/Torch with Staff. I have tried going dual ranged before, but I feel i’m more viable with melee options at my side.
Hmm boring if unedited…but at current a showcase of the best situations for said main party.
Pretty much same as the others in the end that are posted on youtube.
It was his 4th ever vid, cut him some slack. Sure improvements could be made to the editing as nothing is ever perfect, but he did a good job and the gameplay was solid for what he was trying to showcase. If your not going to offer constructive criticism leave your negativity to yourself.
No excuses….
Witchking has a point. Big difference between negative feedback vs. constructive feedback. Didn’t your mom ever tell you if you don’t have anything nice to say then don’t say it at all? :P
Hey Messiah,
do you have a current WvW build you use?
What is this build?
This build is a cost effective & small investment whilst still being effective wvw roaming build.
Nice setup Daeson. In This game there is no wrong or right build. Contrary to what the pompous p kept saying you play what works for you. I find I respect the players who AREN’T playing the “META” build because they are less predictable and as long as the build works for their play style then its a good build. Props to ya.
