I don’t understand why I have 2 mastery points, but I can’t spend them, unless I unlock the track (which cost 1 point). It’s like going into store with $2 in my pocket to buy a candy bar for $1 but the clerk requiring me to dance for an hour just so I can actually spend my money.

Personally they should do away with points, and just unlock the tracks, or reward us points for unlocking the tracks. Whatever they do, I wanna spend the points I have. I can’t even waste my points on junk. They are useless sitting there.

Lighten up a little. It may not be your kind of humor, but some of us are laughing. Why’s it bother you?

Bothersome when people in other thread are trying to make some serious progress and this thread is mocking that effort. It’s not being supportive at all.

Ok lets narrow it down folks….list only three names in order of preference.

1. Paragon
2. Arbiter
3. Sentinel

I would advise we keep this thread alive not by debating back and forth of merits of whether any name fits, because frankly we’ve been doing that for nearly 30 pages and there’s been no progress. So please list just three names until we have a general census of names to be considered. Feel free to explain your choices, but lets not haggle each other over the reasons. Lets get three names and make some real progress here.

We need to stop coming up with alternative names and narrow down to at least three. Otherwise ArenaNet is not going bother listening to this thread. Get organized set up a poll and choose a name. If we want ArenaNet to hear us….we must be united. I know everyone has a cool name they wanna add to the list, but we need to remember why this thread started…to change the Dragonhunter name. There needs to be some compromise if we want to make any real progress. So lets get a poll going and vote the heck out of it to send ArenaNet a clear message of change.

No offense intended, but Jon Peter’s explanation did not convince me one iota. I am not seeing any legitimacy in his explanation. In fact his answer only compounded the rationality of such generic name. There’s absolutely no sophistication or “high concept”. This was clearly a bad choice whether Jon wants to admit it or not.

Honestly I think the Paragon name would’ve been the safest choice. It might have even appeased older GW1 fans.

Would’ve been just fine had they just used the Paragon name. Even the Arbiter would’ve sounded more “specialized” than a non-descriptive Dragonhunter. I think it’s been said enough times that every profession in Tyria is a Dragon hunter.

I’m only voicing my disappointment of the name. I’m not expecting them to change it, but I certainly hope the would reconsider the name. The skills look good and I can’t wait to see it in action.

This topic has been dead for 2 years. It’s not really all that fascinating to discuss considering that it’s moot and has been since the dawn of ArenaNet. The first Guild Wars was Buy to play, and I would expect any game in the future that ArenaNet develops to remain buy to play. That’s their market and they have proven to be good at it.

There’s absolutely no reason to change now.

Would you even WANT a new class/race?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Craywulf.5793

Craywulf.5793

So after some brainstorming I thought of these:

Engineer ~ hammer/wrench
Necromancer ~ scythe
Thief ~ brass knuckles
Elementalist ~ totems/essences
Warrior ~ two handed axe
Ranger ~ wildlife/animal calls
Mesmer ~ whip
Guardian ~ dual wield shields

Now as far as new races, that is two thumbs up from me!

Tengu is the obvious choice and the one I personally would most want to see. I’ve always had an affinity to avian creatures. Any sort of fish people would also be neat, I see them appearing during our quest after he under sea dragon. Fish people would mean I could live my dream of being a merman/quagan.

-Vys

Logically the Tengu are most likely to be the next playable race based on the area that is marked Dominion of Winds.

As for weapon ideas, I believe the best course of action for ArenaNet is add existing weapons to the current professions. This would be easier to balance and freshen up the existing professions. They could Each profession could stand to gain one new weapon;

Existing weapons with current Professions:
Warrior – offhand dagger
Guardian – two-handed shield
Ranger – two-handed staff
Thief – two-handed rifle
Engineer – two-handed hammer
Elementalist – offhand warhorn
Necromancer – mainhand sword
Mesmer – mainhand warhorn

At the cost of balance issues they could also offer new weapons to current Professions:
two-handed scythes for Necromancers
two-handed nuncuks for Thieves
two-handed polearm for Guardians
offhand whips for Engineer
two-handed flute for Mesmer
two-handed axe for Warrior
two-handed Bo staff for Rangers
two-handed book of spells for Elementalist

Personally I think some professions more than others could stand to have their own unique weapon like Mesmers with two-handed flute or Thief with nunchucks. The rest could get away with just switching around existing weapons to current professions.

I enjoyed the Kasmeer/Majory kiss. I thought it was a nice touch to the story. I don’t have any hangups about sexuality of fictional characters of video games. I thought the scene was good and want to see more physical emotion from NPCs in living story.
I do want to make a comment regarding the separation of time with the Living Story from the Personal Story. I was actually doing Personal Story in Lion’s Arch (scene where Caithe attempts to get Destiny’s Edge back together) and the instance took place in destroyed Lion’s Arch. So it felt like personal Story was current as opposed to being the past.

More than likely a clipping issue that probably degrades the aesthetics quality. In other words the amount of clipping you see already is probably the most tolerable they are willing to put up with. Any more clipping issues brought on by capes would simply make the game look cheap and poorly developed.

I like capes just like anyone else but not at cost of seeing too much clipping. There’s a certain graphical standard that GW2 has developed and I would hate to see it ruined by loads of clipping.

Well based on the three options you listed you can adjust/improve the FUTURE development of Living Story, which many have said needs to increased quality (code word for “substantial or meaningful” update). Or you can focus on the NICHE (Roleplaying) which holds no bearing on the performance of game currently. Lastly you can attempt to fix the PAST (Ascended gear) by bringing some statistical fairness as well as reducing the RNG.

My vote is on the future. Living Story is going be your bread and butter for this company to make money. I would suggest focusing on how to improve temporary content, by reducing the amount grind for cosmetic rewards. You’re better off appeasing the players with grind if the content is permanent. Lastly, while Tequatl was great event, it created a massive flux of overflow. To reduce this you should have also created an alternative PvE event so not everyone is pouring into Sparkfly Fen. In other words you need two events going on in separate zones to reduce the overflow.

Tequatl Rising - finally a worthy challenge!

Tequatl is a dragon and is designed to be respected as a villain. Sometimes the Villain needs to win, otherwise we wouldn’t see it as a challenge. Some heroes are better than others, some don’t have to work as hard as others to succeed.

[PvP] Down-state Evaluation

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Craywulf.5793

Craywulf.5793

Without downed state, PvP would be a shallow game of 2v1 with the same result every time. It would be just a matter of coordinating a burst and move along to the next target. There’s nothing fun about knowing you have zero chance when you’re being ganged up by 2 players.

Downed state levels the playing field by giving the player a chance to rally and forcing the other player(s) to decide whether to stick around for the kill or move along to next objective.

In my humble opinion, player housing already exist within your personal story. So I don’t think it’s needed.

As for mounts, that’s something ArenaNet wants to avoid doing in the traditional manner. I suspect they have a unique idea for them, or they will be very limited like broomstick.

My question is…why do players want “player housing” so bad in a game where other key elements in the game need improvement? PvP specifically and balance issues across the board. PvE content and WvW . i dont get it. what will player housing do and why should the focus be placed on player housing this early in the on going development of the game?

Player housing is just a feature, like other features that players want. It’s just something that some players hold as standard in which an MMO is worthwhile to invest in. Without housing the game seems pointless, at least to these types of players.

Bottom line is everyone has their own idea of which feature is be-all-end-all, that says “This game has everything I want”.

Clay, lets get one thing straight…no MMO is finished. It’s a constant process of putting more features and keeping the game fresh. I don’t believe they stated they would have housing when the game was released. They mentioned that it’s something wanted to do in future.

The things that made GW2 incomplete, where “guesting” feature which was clearly indicated as to be part of the release but didn’t happen for technical reasons. The other feature not in at the release and still has yet to be added that was said to be included was “observer” mode for PvP matches. We are still waiting on that.

So if you want make complaints about GW2 being incomplete, please mention the right features. But take note that any and all MMOs are ongoing process of adding features as well as new lore-centric content.

I agree. How many of those MMOs are considered a success?

Maybe it’s time to change the formula?

I’m not sure you understand what I’m saying. To give you an example…World of Warcraft, is constantly adding, so is Rift, Eve, and every other MMO you can think of. You can go as far as calling those MMOs paid betas.

Just because GW2 didn’t have “guesting” upon release doesn’t make it any more of “paid beta” game than rest of the MMOs. It’s a trivial argument to label an MMO incomplete because the way MMOs are constantly adding features and content. It’s a never ending saga.

If you don’t like it, then no MMO is ever going be right for you. An MMO that doesn’t come with updates is a dead on arrival.

Rethinking how Combo Fields, Finishers and Conditions Affect Each Other

in Suggestions

Posted by: Craywulf.5793

Craywulf.5793

Interesting idea, almost what I had in mind but it’s susceptible to trolling. I would instead give each type of mob a particular weakness of a condition (Burning, Bleeding, poison, etc). This way if player attempts to disrupt positive gameplay, there’s no negative setback. Mobs would simply die faster if it’s hit with right condition. This would also mean that other conditions would have less of an impact. So if the Skitt are vulnerable to Confusion condition, all other conditions are only half as effective as Confusion would be.

Another idea would to give mobs, especially champions a weakness for specific type of combo field(s). There can even be a specific order of select combo fields activated in order to kill the champion more effectively than you would otherwise do by spamming various conditions.

Idea to improve the value of teamwork

in Suggestions

Posted by: Craywulf.5793

Craywulf.5793

I wanted to revive this thread as I have thought more about how to improve the importance of CPCs.

Executing them should reap greater benefits and mobs and champions should have specific vulnerabilities to them. To give you example:

Current CPC

A Necromancer lays down a Well of Suffering (Dark) and a Guardian uses Leap of Faith (Leap) and the result is blindness for 3-5 seconds on a Champion.

Upgraded CPC

A Necromancer lays down a Well of Suffering (Dark) and a Guardian uses Leap of Faith (Leap) and the result is blindness for 8 seconds on a Champion who has vulnerability to blindness which suffers another 4 seconds of blindness, bringing the executed CPC’s value to 12 seconds of blindness. Now that’s a huge benefit, but they could also put an internal cooldown for blindness to 180 seconds on the champion to prevent abusing CPC spamming.

This idea could be expanded where mobs might have completely different vulnerabilities than the champions, which allows for all professions to contribute in executing CPCs. Another thing they can do is give Champions more than one type of condition vulnerability and even more depth can be added by having the vulnerabilities chain. In other words lets say a specific Skritt Champion is vulnerable to blindness, crippled, and fear. You could apply a CPC vulnerability in any order or you can trigger a bonus if you apply the vulnerabilities in a specific order. The bonus could be something simple as the Champion dies quicker and players within the area gain a lengthy buff like 5 minutes of Might or maybe a 5% magic find buff.

GW2 is often accused of not having enough importance of roles, most notably the trinity. ArenaNet actually has a unique system for roles such as Initiators and Finishers for CPCs. Not enough importance has been given to this system, which can bolster the visibility of the roles without suffering restrictive nature of the trinity.

Lack of trinity makes this game boring I think

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Craywulf.5793

Craywulf.5793

I think what GW2 needs is greater stress on the roles of Initiators and finishers for cross profession combos (CPCs). There needs to be a bigger and more vital reason to do CPCs. The benefits must be greatly improved and repercussions for not executing them in timely fashion against Champions need to have a greater impact.

This would create a greater depth to the roles without resorting to the trinity.

Sorry we don’t all enjoy siting in LA for 4 hours getting message suppressed trying to spam LFG

If you’re standing around spamming the chatbox, then you’re obviously failing miserably at socializing.

What many here don’t seem to understand is that socializing is two way street, you need to actually show others your worthwhile to play with if you have any hopes of gaining a playmate. The best way to socialize in this game is actually go out and assist someone in PvE, WvW, or even in a random sPvP match. When another player sees you help them, they generally respond in kind. The rest is up to you in how you convince them to play with you.

Otherwise standing around in LA screaming (spamming) " Look at me! Play with me! fill the role I’ve designated for you or leave me alone!" Of course I’m exaggerating here, but point is there’s no social aspect here. You either fill someone’s role or they want no part of you. That’s like going to store and just plucking the ripe grapes off the whole stems and discarding the rest.

Socializing is really not that hard, but it’s certainly possible in GW2. You actually have to be nice to someone. Heaven forbid you should actually play the game and meet someone on equal terms. Nobody like to be discarded or treated as anything less than human. Many players seriously underestimate how discriminatory and soulless the LFG tool is.

Socializing is hard, but it needs to be encouraged otherwise we are just bunch brats with each other when we don’t get what we want.

So in reality the time to acquire end gear (Exotics) is extremely short. You can craft it or purchases it via gold or karma. Even Laurels will get you Exotics. Time it takes is trivial because it’s all up to how invested a player is.

Idea to improve the value of teamwork

in Suggestions

Posted by: Craywulf.5793

Craywulf.5793

Currently the biggest benefit of teamwork in GW2 is the focus of condition stacking, getting everyone on their team to maximize conditions. While this isn’t a bad thing, it’s very much a individualized strategy. You improve your build and min/max it to point where you you know you’re doing best DPS your profession can offer. It certainly can make the strategy feel one-dimensional, despite the complexity of some builds.

What if ArenaNet were to make a greater importance of using CPCs (cross profession combos)? Many players simply don’t feel compelled to utilize them when planning their builds. CPCs can be a huge factor in creating teamwork if ArenaNet actually made them worth doing. The way to do that is to provide much longer duration of the boons and conditions. This would also require ArenaNet to lower the overall DPS for every single profession, so that the best can only be achieved via CPCs. Of course this means the mobs would be tougher to take down in solo action, but as a team, triggering CPCs would be a higher priority, hence greater teamwork.

So here’s an example; A Ranger’s arrow through the Elementalist’s firewall should offer 8 stacks of burning (2 sec.), Wherein a Warrior using Fan of Fire skill should offer 1 stack of burning (3 sec.).

Another example; A Guardian lays down a Line of Warding and a Thief Leaps into the Area of Effect with Heartseeker to gain 1 minute 30 seconds of Retaliation as opposed to just 5 seconds.

As you can see I’ve really cranked up the benefits of CPCs. I think it would help provide some team structure and open up the focus on builds as a team, as oppose to individualized builds that seem to plague GW2.

Thoughts would be very much appreciated.
