I’m not understanding the discussion here. If DS is replaced it MUST be replaced with at least a set of defensive skills. We have no active defensive outside of it (SArmor lol), and will be even more of an easy kill.

Coming from another era of console and DOS-gaming I usually listen to the in game music. I also listen a lot of Game OST on youtube like Mario, Zelda, Final Fantasy etc.

I never understood (specifically PC-)Gamers who make videos with completely out of place music, usually stuff that 15year old emo-punk-anime-freaks are listening to or spastic techno crap. But it seems 15-20 year olds are the only one who have enough time to make speed runs.

People always develop new and different music tastes, grandpa. Not all of us are war veterans listening to 50s pop.

Absolutely face-melting amounts of damage with little to no effort when unobstructed. This is what got me into Necro in the first place, since I leveled it 1-80 in sPvP only. When I first started I could stand still, no movement, no dodging while spamming staff marks and win 1v3 fights. Obviously it doesn’t work against even semi-competent players, but the raid boss feeling was amazing.

I know this is satire, but it brings up an interesting point how most defensive stats are completely useless in PvP. A sign of poor game balance or just a phase of the metagame? I think active defenses need to be nerfed a bit.

My problem with this build is it doesn’t really seem to have a role. Yeah you have nice damage, but a lot of it is single target. It seems like other classes would do what you’re doing much better. Is there a reason a team would want a necro with this build? What’s the benefit of this over the traditional powermancer with wells? Not trying to be rude or anything, I’m honestly just curious.

As far I’ve used it, it’s really good for when you have to basically carry your team. It gives you tremendous 1v1 power without relying on wells to kill people, which most people at a high level know to stay out of.

I think the question here is “why does it matter that necro is the worst at PvE?”. We’re not terrible to the point where it prevents you from completing dungeons. In fact, the only playstyle where we have no place is speedruns, which exclude half the classes anyway. Would it be nice if necros had more team utility? Definitely. Is it game-breakingly bad? I’d say no.

So I tried this out and it works great 1vX and for holding/taking points by myself. Single target damage is through the roof with Axe 2/3 into Dagger and SoS + CB is hilarious against Ele/Guard/Engie. Are the condis from CB calculated off my own Condi damage?

The only thing is that I lose all my AoE and Cleave potential in teamfights where Wells+Marks+DS/Lich auto is so powerful.

You don’t need any of those things to get into ranked play. I maintain a 65% winrate at 150+ games solo and I’ve never used the treb in kyhlo once. Nor could I tell you the buff timers on forest or temple. Nor have I ever Lord rushed on Foefire. Even getting into mid-high levels of play all you really need to know is how to stand on the point and not play your class terribly.

Necromancers have absolutely no problem in mid-high tier ranked soloQ. I’ve maintained a 65%+ win rate with 150+ games now and I leveled my Necro 1-80 in PvP because I didn’t like my mesmer’s playstyle. At lower levels you’ll even carry your team as the entire enemy team will stand in your wells and die.

The lack of scaling defense really is the biggest point here. Any time you are in a situation with enough damage to burst through your life life shroud, you are done. No escapes, no damage prevention mechanics. If SArmor/SWalk gave us 3 seconds of invulnerability instead of protection we’d be in a far better place.

It doesn’t even need to be a huge gate. Just make it 10 unranked wins to play ranked. If you haven’t grasped the basic mechanics of sPvP after winning 10 times, no amount of practice will help you.

Id be silent but since you actually used the taboo signet, you have to be openly shunned
Its not your fault if youre beginner and dont know how good/bad each skill scales, but you picked most of the terrible stuff necro has to offer. Theres no role or purpose , the only thing it probably does is beat other zerker amu beginner in hotjoin due to cele>zerker having more sustain.

Start from scratch or check a metabattle build on modify it.

If you’re fighting beginners you might as well go triple well and spam /laugh as they kill themselves attacking you.

This build looks really powerful in 1v1 situations. I’m definitely going to try it out since double wells in soloQ is not doing me any favors when I have to solo attack/defend points. Though with no stunbreaks I’m curious as to what you do when running into a 1v2 situation?

Not a trait, but staff on Necro is pretty standard for any build because of its sheer utility. And it turns into a scythe when you cast.

I wish the matchmaking was a little better. I have a little more than a hundred games solo with ~65% win rate and it’s only been the last few matches where I felt outclassed in individual skill.

What’s the point of Necro bunker when any two classes will cc lock you and kill you while you can’t move? Our base survivability is top tier, but the lack of active defense outside of two dodges really hurts our ability to stay alive when focused.

Defensive stats are wasted on a necro simply because they do not make the necro any more useful than pure offense. You will be cc chained to death all the same, maybe surviving a few seconds longer, but your damage will be seriously kitten. At which point you may as well pick a proper celestial class.

I run WoS, Spectral Walk, and swap around a third for now on my power Necro. Double well is amazing for team fights, but I run into way too many 1vX situation in solo queue so I needed something more reliable in case I miss the well.

The biggest detriment in my experience is our complete lack of mobility. Necros are relatively tanky compared to other zerker classes thanks to DS and some nice Condi cleanse but once a thief or warrior starts sticking to us we get screwed. This is especially bad when more than one person focuses the necro, we can pop our 1-2 stunbreaks and then we die to chain cc.

They can stay on their feet for exactly two dodge rolls before getting stunlocked to high heaven. This is counterbalanced by the fact that they do insane damage with no crazy APM required. This means that at low levels the Necro is crazy powerful while being too weak at higher levels.

I have the opposite experience. I’m have a 70% win rate as solo only and when I see a premade on the other team it’s almost always a guaranteed win for me. The matchmaking works, my solo team will be better players in general, which allows us to stomp the premade if they don’t have a high level of coordination. And maybe I’ve been lucky, but most of my teammates are pretty good about rotating and fighting on points.

The system sounds perfectly fair to me. Playing against a premade usually means that your side will have higher overall MMR, and thus hopefully player skill, than the premade. I’m 33-13 ranked right now, queuing only solo and I had my second ever loss to a premade last night. Losing to premades is either a skill issue or matchmaking screwing up but you shouldn’t expect anything other than losing points for a loss.

Where do you people see these insults and such? I’m usually the only one on my team that types anything, and that’s just to call movements. Granted, I’ve stopped playing unranked because of how bad my team can get, but I’d expect ranked to have more raging people, which it hasn’t so far.

Yeah being able to stand back and AoE nuke the point is the necro’s strength. I think th r biggest challenge is just getting your positioning correct so that anyone who tunnels you gets punished hard by your team. I swapped out my dagger for an axe to keep a bit of range and not have to run onto the point to out out some nice direct damage.

After trying out Captain and Knights runes, I’ve come to the conclusion that the added defensive stats do absolutely nothing for a power necro. The primary cause of death for me is being chain CC’d and focused, and the amount of defense given by those runes is nowhere near enough to survive that. And if I’m dying anyway, I might as well keep those stats in offense.

Necromancers are great for learning about other classes in PvP since they don’t require you to know exactly what to dodge all the time. My first character, a mesmer, was too difficult for me to play well in PvP right off the bat so I made a Necro. Jumped into ranked PvP right off the bat and now I’m sitting at a 70% winrate ~800ish ranked. The biggest issue I’ve run into is getting stunlocked and focused, which I’ve been trying to work on by +1ing fights instead of running everywhere solo.

I ran into the same thing in unranked games. Went 3-9 my first 11 unranked games and decided never to play it again. The amount of games that started with 3 team members on home was appalling. In ranked at least my team is at a decent level most of the time. Granted, I’m still at a low level but I’ve had some great games in ranked and most of the stomps are in my favor, at least.

Yeah pick one or the other. Trying to do both will only kitten your damage. I’d immediately go zerker runes though. I tested out knights and captains runes for a while, but they barely make a difference in survivability. The lack of active defense kills us, not our health pool or defense, which is already huge due to DS.

I started out playing sPvP less than a month ago but matchmaking seems fine to me, if not skewed in my favor. Played about 11 unranked games before realizing nobody in unranked actually knows how to play (multiple games with 2+ people standing on home at the start), and courtyard and skyhammer being the worst PvP experiences I’ve ever had in a videogaame. Play only ranked now and I’ve had maybe 1 or 2 losses due to major team imbalance, with most coming from premades on my team that are way out of their league. The majority of my games end with the teams within ~150 points of each other.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but Necros are pretty much the artillery class. We can out out crazy damage if left alone but have very little mobility or active defenses due to having A second life bar in DS. And AFAIK we have no safe stomp without using an elite, several utilities, or specifically traiting for it. Meanwhile on my mesmer I just hit F4.

I’m extremely new to PvP, 20ish games played. Started off in unranked queue, got tired of people not knowing how to play their class or even what the rules of the game were. I at least looked up a build+class basics and common sPvP strategies before going in. So I switched to ranked queue. All of my last 5 ranked games began with 3 teammates sitting on the home point, which meant the one teammate and I who went mid died to their whole team. What are you doing in ranked queue if you don’t even know how the game mode works?
