Thanks Anet, good changes and I hope to see them soon.

About auto upgrade: removing timer is good, but please reintroduce human interaction just in the form of approval.

In lower tiers night cap is devastating now because after you fully capture a border, now one is there to prevent dollies from getting into objectives, so you’ll still wake up to full T3 objectives.

I suggest to require someone to speak to quartermaster to “approve the upgrade”. Until someone approves, no progress on the upgrade line is made and extra dollies don’t count (like the old days).

That could make people more willing to scout and defend, as it was in the old days.

One can drill down the Mat’s requirement from here

Guild upgrade

so many pages ..

And in all those pages you’ll see you require Aetherium, and get at least Mine Excavation 2 to get all the important WvW upgrades. That is at least 150 Shovels.

If the guild is of any decent size (20ish), Mining rate could become a bottleneck, upgrade to at least Mining Rate 3 is an important QoL, almost required. So another 150 Shovels.

You can’t buy shovels with money, so I don’t get your point.

Oh, all those Mats that are required for guild upgrades in WvW that many complained are designed to be bought with gems through Trading Posts. ANet knows WvW players do not have the patience to grind for PvE mats.

So be prepared to support guilds with gems.

[Survey] Guild Upgrade Costs

in WvW

Dawntree.7246

How many people are in your guild, and how many of them participate in World vs World?

About 25, we are a WvW guild but players do play PvE and PvP on their own. We also play some PvP as a guild from time to time.

Do you find any of the Auras from claiming essential?

How could I live without MF? Seriously, no one is essential, nice addition but nothing more. (Except +5, of course)

How many World vs World upgrades has your guild earned, what level are they, and how close are they to getting +5 Supply, in particular? Do you feel it is achievable? How much have they spent?

Level 31, we will be able to claim SM this friday, +5 will be our own Christmas present.

We spent quite a lot, about 4000g (considering that we had everything unlocked before expansion). It is achievable, but for less than 10 members is just too much, even with 20 is a pain.

How has your guild been obtaining the upgrades? Do you feel that this has taken time away that you would have rather been playing World vs World? Please be specific, such as “I spent 5 hours getting shovels”, etc.

We had a few members that had a lot of mats in their banks, so with help from everyone we were able to overcome specific farm activities.

Members do daily flax farm though. I pretty much donated all my income since expansion to the guild.

How has the new system impacted you and your guild’s playing experience in World vs World? Would you prefer the new system or the pre-HoT system?

We play less WvW, but I guess it’s not because of the guild stuff but more because playing in a border has become a painful experience (and we mostly roam/ run havoc groups in enemy BL).

I like the new system that gates claiming rights (no more silly guild leaving their claim on garrison) and I would really love to play a bit with tactics & improvements, if their cost would be accessible.

I also love the claim UI.

They improved a lot of things. They just placed a huge paywall to compensate.

  • If you could change one thing about the Guild upgrade system, what would it be?

+5 must be accessible to small guild as well as big ones. A little effort is okay, a 5000g farm is not.

Scribe also needs a serious look at. Leveling scribe is even more painful and we need that for schematics. Now we are not using them and I don’t see them becoming of common use (pity) without a rework. Which won’t happen anytime soon because game economy. Yay.

I was actually a bit surprised with some of the changes. They are definatly considering peoples opinions on the forums (just hope the forum opinion matches the majority of WvW). Reduced strength of walls/doors, WP in keeps now. Seems WvW is getting more love than PvP balance :P.

I would still like for the WP to be hidden until an objective reaches T2 but this is a start I guess.

Agree, it’s a start, I’m curious how those changes will turn out. Some acknowledgement of player feedback would be nice, just to know if other issues (e.g. autoupgrade) are addressed or plainly ignored

Some suggestions for improving WvW since HoT

in WvW

Posted by: Dawntree.7246

Dawntree.7246

I mostly agree with Grendel suggestions, I really hope a dev takes his time to read this, it gives a good insight of why a lot of new features feels bad now.

1) I like the added “road patrol” value of tower, however not at the cost of losing connection with keeps. Especially for 2 northern towers.
2) Waypoints would help making the map feeling “smaller”. I would still keep the waypoint for spawn towers though.
3) Haven’t really tried Oasis properly, for now it’s a good opportunity to damage gates against all T3 stuff, but most of the time it’s empty in our tier, so it’s just a PvE event.
4-5) Autoupgrades are BAD. Players want and need to be part of it. Otherwise it’s just a timer. I won’t reintroduce gold though. It was harsh to dump gold into an upgrade and then watching a blob of enemies come and just sweep with no one defending. It made me stop upgrading. I think the element of choice and interaction with player is enough to make feel people more “connected” to structures. This could also be amplified by claiming. I could live with the idea of spending a few BoH, but ask me to spend 10g for upgrading a keep is a no go.

Autoupgrade also have the side effect of making nightcap even worse. So nice to wake up to 4 maps full of T3.

I also agree that dolyaks should be part of the equation. Who cares about giving dolyaks a defence if their role is almost completely gone..

6) I do like the gating because it prevent troll or undesired claims on important structures. However, guilds should be able to get a camp and +5 without having to throw thousands of gold. Now I guess most of the smaller one will just give up, and bigger will also feel less attracted to claiming and everything else related. So less guild involvement. Which is INCREDIBLY BAD for WvW.

HoT gating is bad for a lot of reasons.

Auto-upgrade: The Bane of WvWvW

in WvW

Posted by: Dawntree.7246

Dawntree.7246

My solution: Introduce a human element to upgrading. It is not a big change, everything would work the way it works now except that when the objective upgrade timer reaches 0:00 it does not upgrade to the next tier by itself but a player has to go to the upgrade guy and press an “upgrade” button. Then the objective upgrades to the next tier and the upgrade timer starts again.

Agree, can also be a button on the upgrade interface (similar on guild hall upgrades), I don’t mind if someone on the other side of the map do it, but it’s important it is a player and not an automation.

During stress test people proposed also to introduce dolly to the mix, so basically a time limit + a dolly count.

Say a keep requires 30 minutes to get tier 1? Let’s add 6 or 8 dollies to the mix. That will introduce something to do for roamers, as starving a structure was part of the gameplay and a really engaging activity for solo roamers on enemy territory.

I don’t think the +5 only helps small groups either, it helps large zergs too giving them way more supply then they will need

100 supply camp can resupply 5 men with 20 or 7 with 15.

If the 5 men can only carry 15, they cannot take the full advantage of a freshly flipped camp, they might need to resupply etc.

The 7 (or more) men won’t care.

That’s why it hurts more smaller groups.

[Feedback] Guild Claiming & War Room Upgrades

in WvW

Posted by: Dawntree.7246

Dawntree.7246

In the spirit of yesterday Colin blog post I want to provide my preliminary feedback on Guild Claiming and War Room upgrades.

I’m part of a WvW guild (~20 active players) and we set our priority to unlock all the upgrades for WvW (+ arena), so we rushed all possible upgrades and this morning we unlocked the War Room (thanks for correcting the bug with last patch!), starting the long journey to have everything unlocked to give our contribution to our server (GO WSR!).

I strongly back John Coperning statement that “Guilds are the lifeblood of Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns™, and it’s our desire that they become a greater part of World vs. World.” and I think it’s really important that guilds see their contribution matters, at all levels. Coordination between guilds should win matches, not numbers and coverage (but that’s another sad story which we hope it will be tackled soon as John stated elsewhere)

The good

Claiming announcement
After unlocking camps claiming, I went straight to capture a camp and claim it. We can’t yet do anything with it, but just seeing my guild name on the announcement was glorious. It reminded me of Hall of Heroes victories in old Guild Wars.

Gating claiming rights
I like a lot the idea of gating a bit claiming rights in WvW. Having a troll claim or simply a claim from an unknown guild just because some new players stumbled on Garrison lord was harsh.
It also rewards guilds for putting efforts and becoming a “qualified WvW guild”, being able to show to fellow server members that. Note: I’m not saying that if you don’t pursue those upgrades you are not a “real WvW guild” (it might be case for guilds focused on fights), it’s a different concept.
Camps and Towers are not hard to reach, Keeps is a bit down the line but obtainable. SMC is like a “prize”.

Upgrading itself
Not WvW related, but unlocking stuff in the guild hall is really rewarding, it’s not cheap but seeing our hall becoming better and better it’s a nice feeling!

Auras
Having stats buff in form of auras that will always be available on claimed structures it’s a good plus. It won’t change much but it’s a nice addition (except for Supply Capacity, see below).

Guild catapults nerf
They were simply too overpowered, 4 people could take a keep really quickly. Too much.

Too early to call

Tactics and Improvements
I was able to toy a bit with those during stress test. We’ll surely need to test banners and vehicles in “real action”. But I like the idea of those.

Guild Siege
Without unlocked recipes, it’s hard to know whether they will be worth over regular or superior siege. It could be another tool for guilds, we’ll see.

The bad

Supply Capacity
With the old guild upgrade system, Fort +5 Supply was a 200 influence (aka 10 events with 2 people, so about 20 minutes of playing) upgrade. It was available at Art of War 2 and amongst the first ugprades.
Now we have Auras, that have the undoubtedly advantage of being permanent. However, Supply Capacity has been moved to the last tier of upgrades, requiring Guild Level 37 and a good amount of upgrades!
I made some rough estimation yesterday, and I don’t see this upgrade being obtainable in less than 2 months (not mentioning the costs for all the upgrades, probably in the thousands of gold, which could be troublesome for some). Sure it will be permanent, but it’s 2 months!
Guild Arena in 2 months was a bad idea and as a matter of fact it was reverted to a smaller timeframe now (thank you)

While all other auras have limited utility (but being permanent will become nice addictions) Supply Capacity is the back bone of WvW upgrades. It’s like “WvW 101”

Having small groups (4-5 players) being able to play at 75% of their full capacity (while just a week ago the upgrade was a no-brainer) after ~3 years of the same is a questionable design decision. I’m worried that small guilds (~10 people) who enjoyed small operation will have another reason to abandon WvW, draining overall population.

It’s ok to have some progression, it’s ok to put some prize at the end of journey, it’s a terrible decision to strip us something we were used to do every day and put that behind a huge pay wall and time gate.

This decision will have (actually, already has) a huge impact on all levels, while favouring mindless blobbing over small organised play. Please, stop this policy right now. Make guilds have an effect on the game, all type of guilds, including small ones. Everyone wants to contribute with their possibility.

(I don’t even want to mention the fact that we will get +MF and +XP in the middle, like WvW guilds care about those)

Final Words

I like the changes of the new system (with the notable exception of +5), I think that will reward guilds more in the future.

However, supply capacity alone is keeping down everything. I can’t overlook it, it’s so important that everything else of the new system seems worthless to me.

TL;DR: Please switch back Supply Capacity back at the beginning of upgrade line.

Btw, you only need guild level 10 for +5 on camps, then level 15 for towers, etc, all the way up to level 37 for SMC.

This is not how it works (as I can get from the upgrade tab)

There are upgrades to obtain claiming rights (separated for camps towers keeps and SMC) and others for auras. And +5 is the last one.

It takes like 5 people to get a guild hall. If your guild is smaller than that, ask a friend to join for a day.

Getting a hall is actually the easiest step.

Then we have upgrades. You need the tavern, then the mine, then the workshop, then war room (currently bugged). Then you need a hell lot of upgrade to get the +5 and claiming.

While I can back the idea of gating the claiming chance so only dedicate guilds will go for it and hopefully less useless claims, +5 should must be on earlier level. You get magic find as first aura upgrade. MAGIC FIND!

The real 4 main issues with the new WvW

Ciao Passero

1. New BL is not friendly.
Some people may say “well it is new, you just have to get used to it” but that is not the point. The point is: the map is indubitably bigger and with a complex layout, especially in particular areas.

I’ll give the benefit of doubt for at least 1 month , the first few days it seemed so, last night I had a different experience.

2. Defending strategy is dead.
[…]Like, can you actually stop for a moment and truly immagine and visualize it how it would be riddiculous to siege such a big area AND REFRESH that siege?[…]

Attacks are not immediate, you have plenty time to react. I assume the meta will be to build siege where is needed rather than pre-emptive build it. Siege and refreshing was tedious, to the point I’ve already abandoned it on old BL

3. Scouts will die.[…]

4. Attacking strategy is dead. […]

Well, assuming this on day 4 is way too early, but I know how you think.

Last night I had the first taste of fights in BL after 3 days of almost free k-train, and it was pretty much fun. I actually felt being able to contribute even more than usual as a solo roamer. I still think stuff could be interesting in the future.

( What bothers me now are the guild halls upgrades and claiming stuff…)

I agree.

THE ISSUE

Having a Supply Capacity Aura so deep into upgrades is seriously bad for organised play in WvW.

Supply capacity is absolutely necessary for small to medium groups! Magic Find Aura is NOT what we need, we don’t care. Heck, I never saw any guilds on my server activate anything else but +5 on camps (resupply) and tower/keeps (repair or supply drain of enemy structures), some rare occasions the stats buffs on keeps.

This is not a new content that require works. This what we were used to do all the time up to last Thursday. And now it’s behind a huge paywall and time gate. To me this is hundred times worse than the dreaded “elite specialisation” matter.

PROPOSAL

Just swap magic find and supply capacity.

And please, fix the war room. I want to start those upgrade ASAP.

I understand gating a bit the claiming procedure to reduce troll claims. This is good.

But it’s bad that you need 37 levels of upgrades to get +5.

+5 is the heart of small and medium size groups.

Now the structure takes an awful long time to be breached. Making even longer because I’m carrying only 75% of my theorical Max supply is a another bashing on the head of dedicated WvWers.

Not to mention that we can’t get a war room anyway. And not yet a line on the matter. I guess I’ll bug report until someone is tired of seeing my reports.

If sub squads don’t work and look like parties now, it is a huge setback for guild groups, to the point where I see no use of this functionality.

Tags are being used for a lot of reasons besides pure commanding, like showing your position on the map (scouting/mesmer portal) or position in heat of a fight.

With current system as it is, you are stripping us all these options to have a collections of healthbars and an easier supply count. It’s not going to work this way.

Woaoaoa! Hold on, please. I have not been invited to a beta test of the new maps yet, so I cannot know whether stuff has changed in such a significant way, but when in this game have the odds ever been “too skewed in favor of defense”?

Well, you’ve answered yourself, you weren’t in beta. Believe us, they overshoot with defense in this map. It is too early to tell because lack of proper organized gameplay, but there is simply too much stuff. What brothers the most are auto turrets (by guild claim and keep shrines buffs). It is okay to help defenders to slow the free flipping of a tower or a keep, but not at the cost of having to deal with dungeon like bosses, hordes of guards, turrets and ambient effects everywhere.

I do agree with the rest of your post, long siege are some of the best moment I had in WvW, both on defending and attacking side. It’s just I want to fight players, not NPCs and turrets.

2. Guild claiming & tactics

I have little suggestion, if it can be done ofc. The panel with all info about structure could also sto show how much supply is in there – for ally only view.

Second this.

About tactics, some icons might be a little confusing for new players, especially if they didn’t take a look at guild upgrades in the guild panel, so it could be nice to have a short text descritpion as well. “Supply drop”, “Centaur Banner”, “Invulnerable walls & gates”… http://i.imgur.com/vtZkctp.jpg

To be honest, I found those icons terrible. I would much prefer a name on it.

Automatic turrets upgrade is very annoying at the gates, for small groups it takes a lot of time and effort/patience to attack keep which has this upgrade slotted. The turrets can’t be destroyed and attack quite often, every attack deals quite high dmg and knock-back. Maybe the interval between attacks could be a little higher, or the dmg lower/no certain knock-back on every attack. At least they can be blocked, but for that need to use certain skills from certain classes.

Second this as well. I guess I was following you for a bit last night, I’ve found those turrets + guards + siege a bit too much.

What makes people feeling the map is big are all the twisted path between objectives, the fact that if you don’t own southern towers either you cata the walls or take a longer path.

Take southern tower and the 3 camps nearby. They are really close, compare to south camp and 2 southern towers in Alpine BL.

It will take a month or so before people will get used to it and learn all the paths and movements properly, after that I guess the map won’t feel that big.

On our tier (T8 EU) it could be mostly unpopulated, but that’s quite common with the current BL as well. What is interesting is that a 5 men group can work to at least take a tower, defend it, build a waypoint (if it’s spawn tower in enemy BL), then that tower could be used by bigger groups for push on keeps. More strategy on the map is definitely good.

It makes sick reading most of these comments who don’t want to fight enemies in WvW.

You wanna say we destroyed your game mode? Ok, well thanks for turning WvW into another regular PvE map.

I love fighting enemies. I like fighting them in open field with a proper guild raid setup, and I like fighting while laying siege on a objective. They are 2 different type of fights, both of them are interesting and have their pros and cons.

I like to use my brain and use what is my tactical advantage to keep an objective or wipe an enemy group, and not always rely on brute force. And yes, even guild groups rely on brute force (based on group skill and coordination, I’m not denying that) to win fights on open field.

Why WvW has to solely be one of this aspect completely denying others? It has potential to present a lot of different scenarios depending on the situation.

I don’t like karma training. I don’t like big blobs that conquer a border in 20 minutes just because they are 40 and we are 10. If anything this map seems to work in a way that this won’t happen that much.

New endpoints: pvp and char specializations

in API Development

Posted by: Dawntree.7246

Dawntree.7246

As an important note, this endpoint only serves the 10 most recent games (that have occurred within the last 30 days, IIRC).

Hmm, apparently I have 10 matches listed, and the dates range from 2015-07-12T02:27:08.000Z to 2015-07-14T03:09:30.000Z. So it would seem that the retention is higher than 30 days

Uhh maybe it’s 90 days. Will double-check and get back to you.

I’ve got matches played in January listed (yeah, haven’t played much pvp this year)

BTW, thanks for the awesome work!

Awesome, I can instacheck my progression to legendaries! Thank you.

Just 1 question, is wallet data included? I can’t find it…

If that’s not the case, any chance to have those as well soon?

Suggestion: Commander Tag Description (WvW)

in WvW

Posted by: Dawntree.7246

Dawntree.7246

+1 for your idea

We do that as well in WSR, and I spam a message explaining the color code for tags. And there is always people that prefer to follow a guild rather then the public group, even if you politely ask to not do that in /l chat.

To be fair, if people don’t bother to read chat (sometimes even local), it’s not a tag on a minimap that will change things, but in all a good addition.

There should also be some kind of LFS (looking for squad) system, where each commanders can describe their group and an interface that shows all borderlands action. But we are asking too much probably.

Guild Catapults

in WvW

Posted by: Dawntree.7246

Dawntree.7246

Rams are always faster than catapults (except on sneaky spots for keeps.

You can argue that with the supplies of 1 sup rams you can build 2 guild cata, but that’s the reason why they are so expensive. And still, on a gate ram would be faster (but less safe).

If they were more popular, they would cost a lot more due to their scarcity.

They have their power, but will always be a situational weapon.

On a raid we usually build superior catapults. If you can build 4 superior catapults, building 9 guild catas won’t change too much the outcome of your attack.

green keep Water gate Ram on it

in WvW

Posted by: Dawntree.7246

Dawntree.7246

It’s almost a tradition for us in WSR to attack Green Keep that way, to the point our good friends in Dzagonur always had 4-5 ACs ready to cover that gate. Now FR is learning the lesson too.

It’s extremely easy to counter, and when you breach you have to swim through a tunnel and jump on the exit, with some risks of failing the jump.

Gate doesn’t upgrade and it’s a bit sneaky, but for serious attempts double ramming spawn gate is better.

What do your servers call your bl keeps?

in WvW

Posted by: Dawntree.7246

Dawntree.7246

Garri Bay Hills, camps and tower usually with their position (N, NE, NW etc)

EB stuff is called by its name, the keeps are named after the server spawn, so “our keep” or just “keep”, " DZ keep" “FoW Keep” even if the server does not own it.

White Swords are back!

in WvW

Dawntree.7246

I gave it a shot. It was pure hell.

If you don’t have scouts it’s just free cap. I had really low interest in defending any stuff during the event and I haven’t spend a single silver on any upgrade. Our border defenders took their leave and I could understand that.

As a raid leader for my guild I had so many headaches just to figure out where enemy was, and it was impossible to estimate the group just looking at the map.

As a romer in other borders I had no idea where the enemy was and if there was anything interesting to do.

Last night I logged only to flip a couple of camps and get a sentry, but the swords gave me reason to check that tower that was tagged, then go to hills and try to defend against that group etc.

In our tier having no warning is just a joke. And if the enemy blobs is way better for us tbh, at least we can focus our defense instead of running around like headless chicken to check 3 keeps with 2 people.

UW currently ticking 680, I don’t want to say it’s all because of that scum, but videos from my fellow WSRers makes me think that.

We also encountered the FoW cheater several times last week. And we had experience of Dzs using the skritt bottle exploit a few weeks ago when we were beating them.

The thing with this particular one is that he’s really annoying and constant with his actions. I was used to cheater using their tools a couple of times and that is that, this one continuously uses his. So annoying that people doesn’t want to play this match anymore.

WvW Suggestion - Influence from Claiming

in WvW

Posted by: Dawntree.7246

Dawntree.7246

As long as is not possible in any way to override a claim, no. Here we have guilds claiming keeps without even knowing how the should do it, without even +5. Imagine if you get some benefit out of it, wild claims everywhere just for 100 influence. No ty.

More influence for active play would be nice though. Capturing an undefended camp with 2 roamers? 20 influence. Campturing a T3 keep after 1 hour of fight? 20 influence.

But as always, there are way more important issues to tackle first.

Would anyone like a way to reset WXP?

in WvW

Posted by: Dawntree.7246

Dawntree.7246

Why ? Anet forces a WXP reset before a league and that’s more than I like XD.

In all honesty the only things important to cap are applied strenght and applied fortitude, the rest is trivial, and for that you only need 230 WXP.

You also need about 20 ranks for supply, build and repair mastery at least.

Max supply capacity won’t hurt either, but it’s 300 ranks.
