Black Lion Trading Company
It did not function properly during the whole event… I could not sell items, see stats on items that interested me and lots of other wierd stuff that happened while I opened the window but it was a bit funny when the tooltip tried to tell me that all items were Karkan shells or whatever the name was on that item they dropped.

Fractals
I see a lot of problems with the design of these mini-dungeons.

  • Portal is placed in LA, this is why the chat is now crowded with “lfg fractals” now and performance have dropped. It should have been placed elsewhere, the new island would have been a natural location to balance the player population.
  • The fractal levels have split the players into groups for the same dungeon and made it harder then ever to gather a group.
  • People can leave for different reasons (most common I have seen is that they do not understand that they should stick around “We got the chest, what more do you want?”). The lobby should have been constructed differently so that you could replace players that left. Maybe making a lobby for every level would have been a much better idea?
  • No waypoint in the fractal maps was just a bad idea and the same for not allowing players to repair equipment when you design a fractal map to be a war scenario.
  • Why is the fractal merchant only inside the fractal lobby? This is something that I find as a really strange decision.

Bugs & Lag
This cannot be mentioned to often. The lag was horrible during some of the events and a lot of stuff was suffering from horrible bugs that blocked people from making progress. Did no one test these features before they were released to the public? Why do you not place a GM/Developer in the crowd of every server that can monitor the situation and act when something goes down the drain? It would have been enough for some situations if a Anet employee just reset/respawned an NPC for things to work somewhat smoothly.

They will still shoot even if you’re in melee range, and you will more than likely eat all the shots.

I like taking them out with my Greatsword, especially if I fumbled and attracted 2 of them at the same time. I just dodged the spit or used whirlwind to get quickly get away from the attacks and whirlwind even allows me to deal some damage. Switching to rifle and knocking them back also work plus a lot of other tricks depending on the weapon combination that you are using.

New Zone Difficulty

It is possible to solo your way across the whole island, I did it and I am not the best player nor do I have the best equipment. The trick is to be careful with you whom you fight and when you choose to start the fight.
Also, dodge has been in the game since the start, so begin using it. The dodge functionality makes a lot of fights in the game a lot easier. The young karkas is nothing when you dodge or deflect that special attack of theirs. Just keep an eye on them and you will find their rhythm

Each class also have a lot of weapon + character skills that are extremely useful, think on what weapon you are using and ask yourself if there is another one that is maybe better. Then look at the character skills and be a bit creative, my elite skill is meant to be used for knocking around opponents but it can also be used as a retreat skill if the player is creative. Get some distance and switch to ranged… lots of free damage

Halloween Event Feedback

Mad King Book:
This event was cool but really confusing in the beginning. Some clues were also really vague unless you tend to dig really deep into the lore. A lot of people used guides instead and this could have been resolved by simpler clues and by braking each chapter into several steps. The first step is really simple and make sure that all players get to the right zone, the rest of the steps take place in the zone and guide the players slowly to the final location.

Mad King Realm

  • The Maze – It was fun to run around and fight lots of monsters but it was missing an end goal, something that everyone should try to achieve in that maze.
  • The strange Living/Undead mini-game – I never really got the hang of it and it just felt meaningless. Maybe I missed something while running around, trying to get strange objects to characters and hunt other players as undead…
  • Pumpkin Brawl – Had a ton of fun with this mini-game and would love to see it as a permanent addition to the game. Even new players got the rules really fast and joined up to fight over the three locations. I would only suggest that players would have a weaker effect if they attack one of the three locations directly or make only the skeletons able to do it for a more strategic game.
  • Clocktower – This was really frustrating but a lot of fun at the same time. It was not impossible as long as people dared to experiment a bit and find the most effective way to jump their way to the top. I really felt satisfied with myself when I reached the top for the first time

The big Halloween Brawl
All that fighting was a fun but it felt like the social achievement demanded a bit to much from the player. It also felt like it got a bit pointless after a while because it was just a big hit everyone around party with no real end goals or strategy (I know there is some minor strategy involved but it was so minor that I do not feel like counting it).
This should have been a perfect place to tell players that they get a cool Halloween item if they complete the achievement.

Suggested Item Changes:

  • Time limited weapon and armor skins = IGC
  • Permanent weapon and armor skins = BLC Gems
  • Permanent weapon and armor skins with cool stats = Event rewards (hard to get but not as hard as during this Halloween event).

Other
It is sad that those clothes that was added to the game was only social armors because it would have been cool if people could use them while fighting in PvE or PvP. Feels a bit like a waste of time to get them because they cannot be normally used and they should have been split into head, shoulder, chest, pants, shooes etc.

Actually, the mad king dungeon seem to add to your progress for visiting the 4 sites in the mad kings world achievement.

Honestly I don’t know how melee players do it. I feel like it is impossible to tell what is going on with all the spells going off and I feel like bosses spam their AOE attacks. What is the point of dodge when you are just going to end up rolling into another red circle and then another red circle that you can barely see.

I’m leveling a guardian and warrior and I think they are fun classes but I’m worried I won’t be good enough to run any dungeons with them. I’m definitely in awe of people who are good at melee. How do you do it in this game?

My primary character is a 2H Sword wielder and I have a skill that makes him rush against the targeted opponent and then attack him. This skill is a necessity during large boss fights as the screen can get cowered with so many effects that I cannot see my character and the boss. The only other option is to attempt moving in the general direction of the boss and randomly attack until damage numbers appear, this of course require that I know where my character is…

So I agree that the effects can often get overwhelming and they have been the reason that my character got killed on several occasions. They really need to do something about it because it is just ridiculous that they are even allowed to completely hide important in-game characters and objects from a game design perspective.

I know this might sound rough but I love GW2 and just want to be able to better enjoy all the raid-like fights.

A group needs to communicate if the dungeon is challenging, give them some simple puzzles or tasks that require a bit of teamwork

A lot of people are scared that the community will become mute but that only happens if the game fail, not if the game implements a LFG tool.

I think a better solution would be to send a coder over to the out of combat system and have him take a look at it. It is really annoying when it decideds to go crazy and it usually seem to happen for me when the surface is a but uneven.

Make a level 80 version of each zone (like GW1s hard mode zones)

Basically the problem is that the level gets decreased, you feel to overpowered and the rewards are not interesting for you.

Sounds more like a problem where they should look into the system that decrease the level and see if they can polish it a bit more and add a loot table or similar that reward level 80 players for playing in a lower zone. They could also hand out a bit more materials to players that spend their time in lower level zones as the materials farmed there, is most probably useless to a level 80 character.

Yeah, it is normally fine but the boss fights… I cannot even find my own character on the screen anymore when I go in wielding my greatsword. He disappears under a blanket of rainbow colors and sometimes the boss as well.

Dungeons LFG

Hm… just a thought but…

What if the LFG option popped up a small window with the necessary options when you stood near a dungeon? The LFG icon would change appearance depending on the mode, speed etc that you wish to run it at but it would make it easier for player to identify other players that are looking for the same expirience. At the same time, it would require some human to human interaction because you would have to talk with the players

I think there is enough cash for people if they think on how they are using them. There has never been a situation during my 60 levels that I ran so dry that I could not teleport a few times.

The waypoints grow further apart with each character level and the cost increases with distance… seem natural to me.

Instead of changing the game because of a none existing problem, analyze your playstyle and adapt. It is the same as when people feel that their characters are too weak, that often happens when you wear the wrong gear for your playstyle and weapons or you have not found the next appropriate weapon yet.

Just as a side note, I burn most of my money on crafting armors at the end of each playsession. So I am always low on money when I start playing but fill it up by joining dynamic events or doing heart missions etc.

Allow us to have pve armour appearance in spvp

The transmutation would require people to have two sets of their pve armor. I would prefer that it was just a simple press of a button or something. It is after all an armor that we have earned and maybe come to like. I think both pve and pvp armors should have some simple but logical system that allows us to toggle them in both game modes but the problem would be the statistics… hmm

Level 50+ and still enjoying it but some areas of the world that I have ventured into is clearly more enjoyable then others. The most enjoyable maps are those that contain missions that are a bit differemt, preferrably a bit puzzle like. Then we have places that contain hidden stuff or … jumping puzzles (cannot believe I enjoy them this much).

The pirate cave was a lot of fun when I figured out how to get there and so on

But there was some other maps where they relied a lot more on grinding and that went “meh” really fast.

Jumping directly to them could maybe be abused but what if the world map clearly highlighted the closest waypoint to the party leader?
It would also be good if the system automatically ensured that your character jump into the same instance and such stuff if you are in overflow.

Yeah, there is a need for barbershops. I created my Norn with the hope that he could look more “Norn’ish” after collecting armors but I noticed after playing for a while that these items do not appear so often. This made me want to change the appearance so that the characters face fit his equipment a lot better.

Add a confirm option for large purchases.

I am really careful but I remember that I managed to purchase 250 resources by mistake in the trade post. That got me as well to think that there should in some cases be safety features in the purchase systems.

Weapon dyeing

I changed my character’s appearance 2 nights ago and ended up thinking on the same thing. The character looks cool but it would have been even better if I could have changed the color of my great-swords appearance to something that matched the armor a bit better.

It would also be cool if we could have elemental powers added on our weapons, saw a character with a sword that had a tiny lightning, looking effect. Think the effect ment nothing and was a part of the weapon the same way some people carry armors that burn but what if we could have some sort of gems that added elemental powers and effects to the characters?

Gold Sinks - What is your opinion? Additional examples.

They already got a few example skins in the store, the problem that I see is that the skins that you can get from in-game items is much cooler then those that are offered in the gem store at the moment.

Characters need a lot more appearance options in the game so why not just add more skins to the store that has the same, high quality as those in the game and more skins in the game world

I am just level 50 but I have for the last 10 levels earned around 50 silver to 1 gold each time I sit down and play + new and better items for the character.

The trick is to do things that give you good rewards like open world raids, collect items and sell them to vendors or at the trading post (depending on who gives you the most). Crafting materials seem to be the most effective, I do not need plants, cooking ingredients leather and so on but I gather them because leather as an example bring me around 20-30 silver each day on the trading post Items that you do not need can be disassembled, the components is worth less on its own but more effective to store so that you can fight longer without selling stuff. The trading post takes a small fee so sell large amounts of items at the same time etc

I also really like where the OP is going with his comments because I opened a few chests in the beginning and stopped caring about them after a while. Nothing has been really useful to me, mostly poor items, uninteresting boosters and once a… new key xD

The recipes and unique weapons/armor is cool but I do not like the “unique” part. I would prefer if they are really hard to get in the game but the chance increase dramatically if you open a chest.

The whole treasure map thing could even be a collection of unique events or missions so that they do not get tiresome Some could have random rewards, other “named” tasks could have guaranteed rewards like find that place, do something and you will get X item. Getting there could be easy or hard, it is maybe one time only necessary to visit a antique shop and you have to climb a whole mountain the next time. Killa a boss at the end or solve some small in-game puzzle, be rewarded by opening a chest or interacting with a character and so on

Targeting

Just want to add to this thread that targeting have given me trouble in the past but today, 12th September was worse then ever.

Examples:

  • You have several enemies in front of yourself and the auto targeting system decides that the one standing furthest in the back, on the right side is the biggest threat.
  • The target is sometimes lost for unknown reason, then the auto targeting system decides that it should lock on a friendly animal in the surroundings.
  • The autotargeting system decided that a cage in the background was a lot more important then the opponents…

etc…

It really looks like someone has to go in and improve the code for targeting a bit, something does not feel right when you fight.

Armorsmithing - Disappearing Crafting Receipies, Categories and Change of Order

This bug is connected to the armorsmithing menu, it could be more then one thing that is not behaving like intended in the system but it is impossible for me to tell in the client.

Description: The list of “recipes” and their categories are not displayed correctly every time that I open the crafting tab at the armorsmith station.

  • One or more armor or component recipies disappeared.
  • One or more categories completely disappeared, including the whole header/title (ex Boots did not exist at all).
  • The order of the recipies in a category could change randomly.
  • The order of the categories could change randomly.

How Often: I have seen this happen once or twice in the past but thought it was just a trick of the mind because I was tired or similar things but today (12th December) was different. One or more of the listed problems probably occurred 4 out of 10 times that I opened the crafting window.

Quick Fix: Choose another tab in the crafting window, like that discovery tab and then go back to the crafting tab. It usually fix the problem.

Notes: The bug appeared to be completely random. It hit me that it looked like the bug could be tied with loss of information when some things did not appear in the list but why would that affect the order?

Common things to my behavior when using the crafting window is:

  • I often forget to purchase things from the crafting vendor like those threads for wool, silk etc.
  • I often have the trading company window open so that I can instantly purchase components that I am missing.
  • My inventory is often also open (I typically sort them so that I got the inventory window on the left edge of the screen, trade post window in the middle and my crafting window on the right edge).
  • I did notice that the windows, sometimes have problems with determining who it is that got focus, I tries searching for something in the trading post and found that the game was determined to interact with the chat window(?). Had to close and reopen the whole trading post window to solve this. Key inputs also, sometimes, like into the game world and starts moving the character or open other windows etc.
  • I am often bad at closing windows properly, it is really common that they get closed because I move away my character from the crafting station.

That is all that I could think of at the moment, I sadly did not think of making a screenshot but will try to remember this the next time I see some form of this bug.

ps. The game might have bugs but I still want to compliment the dev team for a great game. It got that special magic which makes you want to turn on the computer as soon as you get home from work or errands. A MMO have never been this good before

@Luimunduk – what level is your character? Like Thalzion says, a lot of equipment sadly looks the same in this game.

Sounds like the WvW system wants a certain ratio of each class to balance things and we got way to many warriors

As this is closely related to the bug I noticed…

I was able to spend my points before reading the first training book. I had bought it but not used it, it could not be used afterwards so I threw it away as it was not needed anymore.

Why do we even need the books in the first place? Would it not be enough to give the money directly to the trainer and avoid the books completely?
