Agreed w/ all immediate previous posters. I’ve been staying away from GW2 b/c the camera’s finnickiness makes me not want to play.

Game Improvement - Suggestions

This is really more of an ambient improvement – ‘First Person POV’ (that, maximum zoom from height-of-player). It would be neat and create more immersion. Not a huge deal, but then again not that hard to implement.

Third-ed, this is really a very good idea and would be quite helpful. Also suggesting that we be allowed to remove achievement/quest tracking clutter from UI as well, for those of us who wish not have our screen real estate eaten up by messages.

Final Rest - Current Theories

I respectfully submit in contradiction that secrets do not hurt a game or its fan-base. I am playing The Secret World currently, taking a break from GW2, and even though the “lore” there is often not spelled out in black-and-white 100%, it in no way detracts from my enjoyment of it.

Please. THIS. I want a modular UI, and the ability to hide whatever elements I don’t need/want to see. Player stupidity/clue-less-ness is NOT an excuse to lack an option that should by rights be part of the game by default. I really hate UI clutter.

The Stone Sheath Still Bugged

After trying this quest four times and failing to get the scabbard (couldn’t tell if I had it anyway after picking it up) I ran back to the circle and ran around for 5 minutes. Eventually it jumped to the final cut-scene and finished out. o_o

I can’t even pick up the scabbard…my character goes through the animation but nothing gets picked up.

The event chain advances to returning to the starting point, but the game does not recognize the sheath’s presence (as I can’t pick it up – it disappears as soon as I try).

Spam like this keeps actual bugs from being posted and noticed, thanks OP.

(Btw, I agree w/ you- it is pretty blotchy-looking and has no place in a game of this caliber – but there are more appropriate threads/forums to note that)

As reported here, this event is un-complete-able: it says that the 3rd of three Siege Mortars is not yet destroyed (there are none left to destroy, nor any dredge), and the sky is stuck in “dredge siege” mode – all black and ashey. It’s preventing character from completing the map.

Useful-ness of Armor/Weapon Vendors?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dhraiden.9215

Dhraiden.9215

The armor and weapons they sell are never better than anything I pick-up or make. And there is always better stuff BLTC for less, usually.

Is there a reason for them to sell very watered-down weapons and armor, or are they just another flavor of merchant to sell junk to?

Give new accounts 1 free server transfer

Dhraiden.9215

I’d like to see this. It’s my fault for my not researching it initially but I did not know which server was (unofficially) for RP and selected a server at random on creation. Now that know Tarnished Coast is more for RP other servers, that’s where I’d like to go…except it’s full.

For new players after 1/28 when free transfers expire, this would be helpful to have, say up to one month from their activation.

So The Dwarves Failed

in Lore

Posted by: Dhraiden.9215

Dhraiden.9215

Simple theory, really – The Pale Tree and sylvari. Why can the same concept not apply to Stone Dwarves? … the dwarves are native to the world, the same theory that new dwarves can be created out of stone and infused with the souls of dead dwarves is a credible one – Similar to how they were created in the first place….

We have plant people, why not stone people?

The argument that dwarves are ‘too samey’ to a fantasy universe is a false one, seeing how they are -already- different by the virtue of being made out of stone, and being essentially sentient golems. And Arenanet -can- make them different to stereotypical dwarves if they want to, and I would personally love to see it. They already have their ‘enemies’ in the form of a potential resurgent Stone Summit and Dredge

Not to mention that dwarves being resurgent would -also- be bucking the stereotype in of itself.

Arenanet has also backtracked significantly on the issue of the state of the dwarves – It’s gone from “Extinct” to “Rumours they are about” to Ogden outright saying “They are fighting”.

Look at the world map, below the Deldrimor Front area. There is a blurred blob roughly the size of a capital city, in a similar location to where Thunderhead Keep was in GW1.

This is a great a explanation that I will happily advance in hopes of seeing the Dwarves make a comeback

rambling mode on
Now i’m going on a crazy rambling brainstorm tought, the name Ogden Stonehealer might point at the fact that he can undo the curse/blessing of being transformed into stone?
/off

Hmmmm! That would be a really good way for them to bring back the Dwarves Maybe every-time a Stone Dwarf is destroyed, since that which is no longer living can-not die, the Stone-healer pioneered/discovered/developed-with-the-Priory a way to return that Dwarf’s spirit to a new statue (“body”). Hmm hmm hmm…

6th playable race, what's your top 3 pick?

in Lore

Posted by: Dhraiden.9215

Dhraiden.9215

Dwarves. Somehow, some way, dwarves.

This. This so much. This-this-this-thisthisthisthis.

Yes, they’re a stock fantasy staple, but I love the idea of playing Dwarves that are basically part earth-elemental, and having a-lot about their personalities and skills stem from that.

But then of-course there’s the whole thing about how they don’t, individually, have so much personality anymore, just a Great Dwarf collective conscience. Not so sure what could cause that to change (maybe the Priory figures out how to re-imbue them with individual spark/spirit??), but I’d still love to see Dwarves as play-able race.

Elder Dragons seem like they are very much apart from nature, not a part of nature. They disrupt the natural balance everywhere they go, just by existing.

Wurms can be annoying, big or small, but at least they fit into an ecological niche (somewhat…maybe they act like larger counterparts of real-life worms, tunneling through soil and making it more fertile).

Man I love reading these things…but I’m forgetting to actually play the game, lol. These discussions add a lot to the story. Also make me proud for playing a Norn, your arguments definitely lend a positive/wise light to the race that might stereotypically be labelled as just big lunk-headed brawlers.

Norn, most peaceful playable race?

in Lore

Posted by: Dhraiden.9215

Dhraiden.9215

Agreed w/ Son of Elias and previous posters expressing the sentiment that while, individually, Norn seek do glory, one: it doesn’t always translate into glory-seeking through combative or violent means, and two: collectively, they are not particularly inclined to wage mass-scale warfare on others…their adherence to the teachings of the Spirits seems to suggest they just prefer to exist and be (which includes hunting), but not necessarily wanting to exert dominance over others for sake of control – they were forced out of their original territory, but have not sought (despite being there for at least a few generations) to expand the boundaries of where they ended up.

Nobility/Civilized-ness of Monster Races?

Dhraiden.9215

I’ve noticed in particular that the Dredge and Grawl are very well-spoken and noble-seeming, in some ways, that seems odd and in contrast to how other races perceive them.

The Grawl for instance, when dying, utter things like “My Spirit Endures” or other noble sentiments that seem to indicate a respect/relationship with nature deeper than the dismissive contempt Norn/etc have for them suggests.

The Dredge also seem to have a very advanced civilization (not just mindlessly digging or piggybacking off of salvaged Dwarven tech), referencing a Collective and suggesting they have a very consensus-based or democratic way of doing things, maybe?

Any thoughts?

As a new player to the GW Universe (I just purchased GW2 yesterday during the Amazon Christmas sale), I really appreciate the insights and discussions shared here, as I like delving into the lore-side of games I play. Very interesting discussion, I’d say a future role for the Dwarves, perhaps even as playable race, has been convincingly argued for, and is something for my part that I’d definitely like to see.
