An idea to change WoC

in Necromancer

Posted by: DiscordOfSound.2190

DiscordOfSound.2190

My only worry would be that any increases to damage might make people call for a nerf, but even as it stands, Necro condi damage isn’t as impressive as some other classes, so it might balance it out by increasing the effects/damage, even if they reduced the duration of the well from five seconds. But also, increasing necro condi damage just might put a dent in the sustain meta, but probably not by a lot.

An idea to change WoC

in Necromancer

DiscordOfSound.2190

Seeing how there’s been a lot of calls for boon share nerfs, I kinda came up with an idea that might be a viable solution to appease everyone. Since I don’t think nerfs are the answer, how about we change a pretty good utility to be a better counter to boons?

I was thinking that the Necro’s Well of Corruption could be altered to where when it’s cast, anyone caught in it has 3 boons corrupted per second, instead of ticking 1 boon corrupt per second. Everything else about it would remain the same.

The problem with WoC at this time is that it isn’t the most viable form of boon removal, seeing that it only corrupts one boon a second, and people aren’t going to stand around in it for it’s full potential. And along with decent mobility, condi cleanses and classes that are able to spam boons, WoC can be easily negated, even with two or more necro’s casting it. And even with the increase, it would still take timing and strategy to make a successful bomb during combat since it can’t be spammed.

The Mesmer Null field seems to do the same thing, although it also cures condi on allies and has a shorter cool down making it essentially better than WoC at this point.

Making Necro’s WoC even more viable for WvW group comp could possibly be the answer to avoid any further boon nerfs. It’s just an idea I’ve mulled around with.

10/10! I played yesterday and did not encounter any note worthy bugs.

Getting to spend time with Aurene was a huge bonus. Along with the mini achievement, getting to play catch with her was really awesome. To be honest, I was hoping for even more mini games with our hatchling to keep bonding. Possibly turning them into dailies?

I run a full ascended minstrel druid, so although the gauntlet training was quite long, it wasn’t difficult.

Are you going to make it to where we can feed the extra fish dinner to Aurene since she’s been eye-balling it?

New map is gorgeous. Again, I’m not sure if there was a patch before I got on, but I managed to enter it without the new mastery. Glad to have a place to purchase ascended breathers and trinkets/back piece.

Only issues is that the berries/wood/crystals would be better off placed in our wallets instead of taking up bag space or bank space. That would help a lot.

This is just from a bit ago. In Mag BL. It’s so laggy that neither can you move, but you can’t use your attacks or skills. FPS is running around 3-10. My system’s pretty good, so I’m not sure what the problem is or the solution other than not playing while in T1 or until we’re relinked. And until the next part of LS comes out, not much to do with the game.

its server side issue. it happens when there is processing latency. you can check it roughly by comparing pings of icmp and tcp. BUT anet never admit this fact and improve their server performance.

Hey, thanks for that info. Yeah, apparently a ton of people are complaining about the same thing. Almost reminds me of some of the boss fights with how much lag there is. Perhaps population is too high for the server with so much going on (animations and so on)?

Lags ... still?

in WvW

Posted by: DiscordOfSound.2190

DiscordOfSound.2190

Yeah, it’s still bad. I think every tier has it. Possibly due to the amount of people + animations going on at one time. Not really an issue when you’re just running around, but once skills start going off, especially around blobs, having 2-5 second lag is a problem. And running the game on lowest settings hasn’t done much to improve game play. It’s like the FPS for Frozen Maw. Although I’m going to test if turning off aoe rings helps any….

bad lag

in WvW

Posted by: DiscordOfSound.2190

DiscordOfSound.2190

I had some very minor lag prior to the linking, but now it’s quite bad. Last week while linked with FA, due to the population the lag during SM or anywhere there were blobs fighting each other, skill lag was off the charts. Meaning around 6-8 seconds before your skills actually take effect. I play necro, so wells and marks take a couple of seconds before they are effective, but oh boy, trying to well bomb now is useless. That and the general lag where you try to move one moment well away from the zerg, only to find yourself mowed down and dying a moment later having no clue what happened.

At first I thought it was my HDD, since it was older, and eventually died last week. But with a newer SSD drive installed, I’m still having the same issue. Graphics are great, it runs smooth everywhere else, just not in WvW. I tested it out in the DS/AB/TD events with no lag.

I guess the best equivalent I can give is similar to the Shaman world boss. But I’ve never experienced 3-6 FPS in WvW before the linking.

Does spawn camping help or hurt the game ?

in WvW

Posted by: DiscordOfSound.2190

DiscordOfSound.2190

Well, now, let’s actually look at the schematics of the WvW map. True, there are more than one exit from spawn, but looking at Red’s side, there are only two. You actually have to discredit the “exit” that moves out towards Veloka as it is really doesn’t lead far enough away from spawn to make a difference. The moment you’re on that ledge, you can be spotted and might as well throw whatever plan you have out he window. The passage towards Mendons is an extremely viable path, as enemy players can’t spot you, and you have three openings to go out of. This gives you a fair shot at the tower and camp.

To answer OP’s question. No, it’s really not good tactic. Here’s why. It’s no longer competitive game play at that point. It wastes time, and the people who are encouraging it to demoralize players (meaning actively wanting to actually see people fail or quit instead of playing) may actually have some underlying mental health issues, which have been discussed in articles related to psychology and video games/gambling/addiction/etc.

The problem is, people are taking this game far too seriously instead of enjoying it and letting others enjoy it. If the only enjoyment someone gets from this game is how many players you can kill, this probably isn’t the game for you. People also forget that there’s a number of strategies that can be used, and instead insist on mindless fights.

When my server decides to simply stay in spawn and run into a much larger enemy group, I do one of three things. I either go out to recapture camps/towers, I will go to the other Borderlands to ppt, or I just get back to PvE.

And, honestly, I am more unhappy with my server crying about being spawn camped instead of doing something else than I am at Mag. Between the guilds and players who jumped ship when we got up to T3 and those who just want to fight instead of contributing to PPT, it doesn’t make the game enjoyable. Server population has dwindled, but there are still things that can be done. EB isn’t the only map. If the enemy has a strong foot hold in your keep, move on and start taking towers.

I feel you… Most of my guild and I left to hop up to Darkhaven. Currently against SF and CD. We were on BP, and I started on BP originally. I also saw that SQD left and a few other guilds as well. I think that people were getting a bit worn out with facing uneven match ups and lack of people participating in WvW. First guild I joined easily had around 50 people in it, but a little less than half joined us in WvW, and were primarily pve’ers. It really starts to suck seeing guilds disband, and players getting tired of being run over. But, sometimes a move up to a new tier is the only way you’ll find a better wvw experience. Downside is having more ques… but it’s worth it.

Champion Mordrem Mangler

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

DiscordOfSound.2190

Offshoots: Automatically grants regeneration and fury to allies for 10 seconds in a point-blank area of effect when killed.
Which is why it’s suggested that someone with condi cleanse kites them away from the boss. I normally have ten or so surrounding me away from the boss as I range inside the room (not on the ledge) If they die while not near the boss, he shouldn’t receive that boon.
Poison bubbles (large): Poison Pop – When the bubble is destroyed, it causes a point-blank area of effect that heals allies while damaging players and inflicting 5 seconds of poison. Deals damage every second; heal potency decreased by 33%; stacks intensity. 200 radius. If they’re within range, each one will restore roughly 2% of the boss’ maximum health when popped.
Same thing with the bubbles, keep them away from the champ to avoid him being in range of it’s heals.
AoE is only really bad once the small bubbles spawn since they are a pain, but shouldn’t be a problem at the beginning of the fight, as long as the offshoots are lured away.

But, yeah, the Mangler issue, it’s not very often that I’ve seen it fail, but even with all the pustules gone, people can’t just stand outside the safety area. Which is what I can’t wrap my head around. Same with not standing on the flowers at North, or not getting behind the honeycomb at South.

This author also explains the Copper Husk pretty well. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/lwd/The-Breach-Copper-Husk/

So, we’re getting a lot of people complaining that the Champ fails because people aren’t popping the pustels. Problem is, I’ve noticed a good chunk of people are not moving to the safety triangle before that massive AOE. And then they die because they are unable to dodge away from the following attacks. And then time’s wasted on trying to rez the downs (seeing that quite a bit also) instead of focusing on the boss. Anyone else noticing it also? The wiki explains how the event goes so I’m wondering what’s going on. Hate having to repeat myself in chat that you gotta get to that no kill zone, only to have people argue that you don’t have to do that.

Healing ranger to lvl with friends?

DiscordOfSound.2190

I run full Minstrels armor with druid runes, minstrel bow and staff with water and a regen signet. And it works really well for WvW. Only complaint is that even in avatar form, outgoing healing is between 1,200 to 1,800, which when you look at it, isn’t a whole lot compared to the damage some classes can do (5000+ in some builds). But you sacrifice your outgoing damage if doing full minstrels. And using the staff, people in front of you are healed every second. It’s a good build, but not that great when running solo in wvw. Only other negative I found out was that you can end up with a high toughness, and bosses like to focus players with higher toughness.

I think Anet needs to wipe the banner idea entirely. Having a 20 man group utterly destroyed by a 40 man zerg with two banners, while they already claim the entire EB, then spawn camp us…. Seriously, why? That’s a quick way for people to lose interest in wvw. BP is already out numbered by SF, and this just makes it worse. We’re losing people in wvw. Heck, I think FC gave up, we rarely see them on now.

DiscordOfSound.2190

I see the same thing when there’s not a large group of players fighting this champ. In smaller groups (5-10) we’ve defeated it without any problem, but there’s a strategy to this. Tank like characters should be going in to kite the champ, keeping it away from the center, but also away from the front and back of the room, both to keep it away from the bubble spawn spots, and to keep it in range of the ranged players and while not up where it’s going to stun everyone. The offshoots will cause tons of bleeding unless you are equipped to remove them. Players, who’s characters are predominantly healers are very useful to cast constant heals on the guy’s kiting the champ, but it does no good if they are downed by the offshoots. You only need three or four ranged guys on the ledge. But every time there’s a fail, it’s either due to being unaware of the position of the champ in the room (either he’s not getting enough damage and condi stacks), getting healed by the bubbles because no one is focusing on killing them, or not enough condi cleansing and healing to support.

I agree that while AoE’s aren’t the best solution to fighting this boss, but keeping up with condi stacks will destroy it faster than running in and hitting for regular damage. Usually when it fails, we get people screaming about people popping the bubbles, but even the wiki suggest killing them off before they reach the boss. Also if everyone just stands on the ledge, nothing is going to get done. Players just need to be aware of the tricks to use and where to move for the best outcome. I agree totally with OP, and it’s a shame that there’s still a lot of fails on this boss.

Dueling, really?

in WvW

Posted by: DiscordOfSound.2190

DiscordOfSound.2190

I am perfectly ok with dueling. However, there’s a time and a place for 1v1 or group vs group. Just 20 mins ago we had two small groups dueling next to SM in EB. Well, problem is that we had just attacked and taken SM. We were ferreting out stragglers when my buddy and I came across the groups chasing an enemy. Ended up firing into the group since no one announced in map chat that they were doing this. Not really the best place to square off, and of course, the berating afterwards was uncalled for. It’s really just etiquette to announce that you are doing this so people can leave you be instead of thinking “oh sh**, group of enemy are going to attack.” You can kinda tell if there’s one or two people standing back watching as two people go at it someplace off away from the battle, but as I said above, groups need to call it out in chat, and don’t get kitten when a person or group intervenes because it’s wrong location/bad timing/no prior knowledge.

Tybalt, Sieran, and Forgal

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: DiscordOfSound.2190

DiscordOfSound.2190

Ok, so here’s my input on this. I decided today that I was just not going to go on and not have an answer to what happened to Tybalt. Just not going to happen. So, I swam around the island, back around to the beach, and up into the court yard. And lo and behold, Tybalt was laying on the ground. Yes, dead unfortunately. It didn’t even look partially ceremonious or as if he had done anything other than die just as the gates closed. BUT, there were a handful of Lionsguard fighting off risen, which were easy enough to kill off, leaving only the dragon remaining. Now, I had hoped, in the slightest chance for just self satisfaction that you could rez him, as someone else mentioned in a post somewhere else, but no, that was not the case. So, your mentor simply dies, unceremoniously at the gates, having done nothing to thwart the risen, and pretty much dying for nothing. It doesn’t save you time, and there’s no recognition of it out of the personal story. I am very, very disappointed in how that has played out. Seriously? If the lionguard soldiers who were still there fighting could hold out, I’m sure whomever was the “mentor” could have done just so instead of dying right at the gate. Also, part of that plot hole, does the mentor really need to sacrifice themselves? No, because once the gate is closed, oh look, more risen to fight through! It doesn’t stop them, it doesn’t slow them down. You only lose a character that you’ve grown fond of because….? What? To make you want to get even with the undead hoard? Yikes. I’m sorry if this offends anyone, but that’s just not a strong story line base. I get that we need to introduce Trahearne and make him the center of focus. I just see the knocking off of characters that end up being, well, personally significant, without any justifiable reason other than to act superficially brave, despite it having no impact what so ever… It’s really lacking. It all seems so… rushed if that makes sense. I can see the idea of them dying in a more prolific way having a greater impact on the story. In fact, I would have liked to see the story between joining a faction up until Claw Island being flushed out a bit more. There’s a lot of potential there that I feel was overlooked, probably for time line restraints but…. seeing as there’s an expansion coming out, I am hard pressed to believe that was the case. I don’t know, perhaps I’m the only one who would love to take days, weeks, months even to go through a personal story line and draw out as much of it as I can. Have conversations with the NPC’s, make minor decisions that wouldn’t change the course of the storyline, but add flavor to it. It makes more of an impact. Like, instead of weeping for this npc I’m going to throw a bookshelf out in the road (just kidding, but you get the picture.) Flushing the personal story line out would be so much better. Honestly, most players can get through the personal story within a day or two. I know this isn’t going to be massively in depth, but some more… flavor would have been nice. My other gripe about this, for people who do care and like the npc’s their involved with, why not give an alternate ending? In reality, how much would that change the way the game is played? So, for example, you’re able to rez Tybalt or Sieran or Forgal during Claw Island. Ok, well, we already know we have to set off with Trahearne. We have our new NPC. Why was it so important to leave the other’s dead? Did they really have an impact on what happened. Not really. Maybe having an extra bonus of taking the time and possibility of your character dying to save their comrade would have made many players happy. Personally, I’d never leave anyone behind, but that’s just me. But then again, that loops around into the whole “selfless act” not making any sense. What I’m saying is that the whole Claw Island part was very poorly written. It wasn’t a point in the story that made sense for a main npc to die, it seemed shallow and more gearing you towards the new NPC that would take the stage. I think I am more disappointed with this part of the personal story than the majority of it. Think about it. It would be like Obi-kittenenobi dying by the hands of a group of storm troopers instead of facing off with Darth Vader. It just seems like it would have been nice to have a choice in the matter, and that having more of an impact. But, yea, if you go back to the court yard after the gate is shut, the NPC’s in question are very, unceremoniously, unrevivably dead. Heck, I don’t think they even come back as risen. They’re just dead. For nothing other than to bring another NPC in. Sorry, it’s only just an opinion, I sometimes expect too much out of games/stories. I know that’s not mmorpg’s are about but… one can wish right? First time Tybalt died, I’ll admit, I bawed like a baby, like a freaken baby. But, second time around, it get’s you thinking. And I imagine those going for longer thinking similar things, or not, depends on the person. It’s missing it’s “muchness”. But it is what is is.
