The single biggest failure here and yep im probably beating a dead horse and some people love having to spam chat and beg for a group but I won’t probably keep playing long term if I don’t have the ability to queue for a dungeon. It just dumbfounds me that they would launch a game in today’s on demand world that didn’t include this. Having to beg for groups almost made me quit wow and I was really happy when Rift added it in. I just don’t see a title being viable without one. Sub or not if I can’t find my way into some dungeon crawling in this game im probably going to stop logging in…
Just give me a dungeon finder and Im going to be massively more enchanted with this game than I am now… Still after release I can’t get into a dungeon group because I am actually out in the world exploring and nobody is advertising runs or responding to my requests to start a group… Very annoying and frustrating. I would really like to see how the non trinity which I am not fond of works in a dungeon setting. I fear it won’t be as organized as I like it…
Or it might work out but create an entirely different playerbase, game and mindset.
No game in history has done well by trying to mimic WoW. I can only imagine a game that was built to be the anti-WoW of sorts failing even more spectacularly at such an attempt. We are already starting to see the initial signs of such an event.
I don’t think thats true. I think Rift is doing just fine. Is it the massive cash cow that WoW is? Probably not, but they have dynamic content, 3 Faction PVP, Meaningful PVE endgame progression for people that want it.. All in all Rift is a very nicely put together WoW clone that is a very viable alternative for people that are frustrated by how dumbed down WoW has gotten over the years.
But both of the above mentioned games HAVE A DUNGEON FINDER TOOL!!! Anet totally failed not putting this in.. yep ima say it again..
I guess my real concern and frustration with this game is basically that I haven’t found it easy to find a decent group because my playtime varies so much. I have a family and thus my playtime is very limited and my view of GW is that it is nothing more than a really well done RPG that I play and occasionally run into other people while im questing.
They failed in an epic way by not releasing with the Dungeon Finder tool. It is just insane to think that people with limited playtime are going to have the ability to get in and experience that content because frankly spamming chat begging for a group isn’t exactly how I wanna spend my time. I would rather just queue up and get to go do the content I want to do without having to beg for a slot in a group. That sort of thing almost made me quit wow during BC. Thankfully my guild was far enough ahead of me that they carried me to my first set of Raid Gear from blues I got off the AH and I never needed to spend time spamming chat in kittenfor a group for heroics. That method of group building just doesn’t suit the on demand world we live in any longer. I really hope anet pulls their heads out of well…. and puts that into the game. Regardless of if they ever realize that they made a giant mistake by not having more than 5 player PVE content..
It seems their obsession with becoming an ‘e-sport’ is dominating over them actually making a solid and fun game. Hence all the nonsensical nerfs to pve that come directly from pvp.
Prime example? Greatsword guardian spec. They pretty much gutted it down to an auto attack spec.
Its not like this is the first game to gut PVE for the sake of PVP… that always happens if your game is produced by Blizzard, Trion, Bioware… its life bro
I kinda hope they do away with the idea of eliminating the trilogy and bring it into the game even if in a different form and make dungeon running a legit form of progression.
If not I will probably have to go get Storm Legion…seriously, you come across one single game that is unlike the one/s you’re used to and you want to hammer it down to fall into line with the others?
that’s simply demented.
what would YOU do to this game? ‘cause I get the feeling that what you want already exists in the MMO market. why aren’t you there instead of here trying to ruin the kitten i was enjoying.
Because I would like a AAA Free to Play game that more suits the style of play that I enjoy, being dungeon running as a tank…
No it will end up like every other MMO. You will always find people in the lowbie zones piddling around on alts or whatever but in the middle of the game people will blaze through those areas and never go back. So this will only get progressively worse…

Thats because their own vision isn’t something that is what MMO players want. Part of the reason that we play these stupid things is that there is always some sort of next plateau to keep logging in to get to. Whether it be higher tiers of dungeon or PVP or whatever you need more powerful gear to get there. This is a tried and true principle in this industry and for them to simply ignore it I think they can see that in 6 months people will have done what they are going to do and if they don’t find PVP is their thing they have essentially finished a bit of a longer version of Skyrim and are going to find other things to do…
With their downleveling why would it matter if you had more powerful gear? it would just get tuned down like everything else…
These guys aren’t stupid and I think they can see that the longevity of this game won’t sustain itself unless some amount of progression at some level can happen at endgame. Right now if its not PVP you are into what really are people doing at 80? I don’t have a toon there yet but when I do what is it time to do? Finish the endless wandering around the world doing jumping puzzles and map completion? That is only going to hold appeal for so long before i just get bored and stop logging in… So some kinds of progression NEED to be in this game to keep the traditional MMO player engaged..
I realize that this game functions more or less as a single player RPG with some social elements and they have done away with the idea of parties with roles and all that stuff.
I am currently not really in a guild nor am I online with enough time at one session to really have cultivated a good social connection with the game. So here I sit with a Mesmer at 66 and I have still yet to set foot into a dungeon because I just can’t seem to find a group.
It reminds me of how frustrated I got with doing things like this in Burning Crusade when Blizzard hadn’t gotten their LFG tool put in the game. I think that this is a tool that Anet REALLY needs to develop and get in the game.
I found that once you could get your trait to make your phantasm’s cause bleeding on crit that I loved the Dueling tree. Also i believe that tree’s 20 pointer allows you to pop an illusion when you dodge so you can generate free illusions that way and either get the bleed from them or shatter them and replace them with the utility to drop 2 of them at a time.. kinda depends. I am using a power/precision based build at 65 now with Greatsword/Staff and getting pretty good mileage out of it
Mine is a Human Female due to the T3 racial armor skimp being really nice looking.
So as my “ranged” setup I have been working with on my guardian thats around level 15 right now I am finding that this set has a lot of punch. Scepter is throwing orbs at the mobs I am killing as I close the gap with them and drop smite on them while they are relatively close to me and in range of my Torch 5 ability that I am using to cook them up nicely right now. With a Greatsword switch it seems to be a pretty potent setup for leveling. Does anyone have any better ideas about how to set up a Guardian for leveling?
Well ill bump this one. I guess its just because i am finding that solo killing stuff on my mesmer is a fairly involved process.
I am told that either of them is very good at being a support/healer in PVP if you are into that kind of thing. For my money I guess it would come down more to what I felt I was a bigger nerd about, Tech or Magic.
I have played a warrior into the20s and I love Axe/Axe
What weaponsets would u recommend for warrior?
Yeah i stupidly rerolled a warrior I had but I forgot that I had taken my profits for the last few days off the AH on her and oops.. there went a gold…
Hi All I am currently playing a Mesmer and I am liking it and I am going to push her to 80 before i really mess with other classes. However on her I feel like its a lot of work and I kill really slowly. I am looking at my next class to try out and I am kind of lost. Id like one that is efficient at Farming in Orr and the like. I want one that kills fast, doesn’t spend a lot of time dying and is fairly straightforward.
I didn’t say I was pro… I just don’t really like sword but I did shatter more with scepter pumping out illusions fast.. The advice i am lookin for is sheer PVE leveling. I am running a legion build for PVP I just wanna make quick work of foes in PVE and not die too much and push through the last 20 levels and start a new toon… Mesmer kills so slowly that I don’t think I will keep playing much PVE or farming with it but I do like it for PVP..
Well thusfar I have used more of a Phantasm build but whatever is the most effective would be fine by me. I like GS/Staff and GS/Scepter/pistol as a rule..
So I just hit 60 on my Mesmer and bought the grandmaster manual clicked on it and now have access to 50 points to spend any way i see fit. Problem is i don’t know how I see it fit. My first inclination was to max out as much as I can in Dueling and Illusions but im not sure. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.
GS3 should just cast on your current target… id use it a lot more if it did
Man.. you are really missing out on a lot of really amazing gameplay by not using Staff.. By far and away the most useful weapon we get. I am running Staff/ 1hsword/focus and getting GREAT mileage out of it. I do love GS as well though..
But if I have to chose between GS and Staff im keeping staff..
ok, so lets say i go GS + Staff do i just equip staff as Main and switch to GS if targets gets close?
No don’t go GS if the target is close, the damage from the GS is best at longer range. GS is a good Kiting weapon but it is a bit counter intuitive to have a greatsword be a ranged weapon..
Greatsword with a Staff Switch for AOE has been pretty enjoyable for me so far…
While Leveling what traits should I prefer to take? i would think that you just spec directly into power so that PVE mobs die the fastest but maybe I am wrong. Anyone got thoughts? I do prefer a Rifle/ whatever melee switch and I usually open up with Rifle to pull mobs rather than melee rushing them. Ideas?
While you level is there much point in spending your traits in anything other than just power if you are doing it wrong? Does it depend on your Profession? I am playing a Warrior Mesmer and Guardian and I haven’t done any PVP or anything yet… At low levels are other things valued enough to not just want to blow stuff up as fast as possible?
Fortunately you have that choice… I don’t care because I only use this for an hour a day anyway..
I am going to make my Sylvari a Mesmer…
NO i don’t want to kill your hopes and dreams but I sincerely hope your internet provider doesn’t impose bandwidth caps on you because if they say there is a minimum sys req that usually means that they actually require it..
You are positive that you aren’t color blind right?
Just wondered how long this was in the works? considering I’ve gone out and brought a PC when i am fully mac enabled.
Lack of comms on this is horrific considering you said you wouldn’t be supporting it.
Joke
And what about all those people who recently purchased a iphone4S a few weeks before the release of i5? Should they whine and complain too? Actually I can think of MANY similar QQs but here’s the thing – it’s a product – you’re not entitled and life goes on.
No those people should lie down on the train tracks and wait for the train. In NO product cycle apple has EVER had were there more leaks and obvious reporting on the new phone being avilable. the Iph5 has been on the radar for months now.. if you bought an iphone in the last 4 months you definitely need to get out from under that rock you live under..
I agree that the lack of communication was a little bit disappointing. I spent the last 3 days getting my hard drive to partition so I could run Win7 in bootcamp, and literally as I’m installing my Windows Updates I hear this announcement.
As you can imagine I’m a little sour that I spent that time configuring things when I could have just waited 3 days and played on the PC in the mean time.
The thing that we should take away from this is that GW2 is finally natively on OSX and we should enjoy.
If you spent 3 days trying to get boot camp to work you have issues.. it is one of the easiest things in the world to do..
Yes ANET cheers and shame.. shame on u for not having this day one… So much wasted time installing windoze on my laptop that I could have avoided hehe… Oh well the important thing is that now i don’t have to reboot to play the game. Kinda wish another game I like would do that… im a bit Mift that it doesn’t..
Yeah mine gets hotter than a pistol. Has ever since my Powerbook G4 running wow. The metal body of the computer acts as a heatsink. The best thing I ever did was get one of those laptop cooling dock fan stands to put my laptop on while gaming. It made a huge difference. OF course now I just hook it up to a monitor and external kb/mouse so i don’t burn my hands but i wouldn’t worry about it being too hot unless you are touching it and burning yourself. Oh and if you are a male I would keep the heat off your lap if possible since it can adversely affect the number of swimmers you have..
I have a 13" macbook pro running 10.8.1 with the intel video card and I run in windowed mode and it is working pretty well for the hour or so I was able to log in. 14 FPS and some lag but this isn’t exactly an alienware laptop so I am just happy I don’t have to reboot into Windows to play. Good Job getting the Mac Client up and running. I hope to see continued improvement in squeezing the most out of the client as possible and making it as bug free as it can be.
But… If anyone is running a Dual Core i7 macbook pro wth
Processor 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
Software OS X 10.8.1 (12B19)
and has an idea how to get frame rates above 15 id love to hear your optimization tips
I do enjoy the ease at which you can teleport across Tyria but I would really like to see mounts in the game…
“NOT HAVING A FEATURE IS A FEATURE!”
- Arenadrone, 2012It’s 2012. This game is supposed to be a AAA MMO, and World of Warcraft has had this incredibly useful and cool feature for like 7 years or something hasn’t it? I honestly don’t see why there is a reason to not have it, apart from ‘because WoW has it’, and that is incredibly stupid.
Cough Dungeon Finder Cough
I am new to the game like everyone but none of my previous Guilds in any other games centered in any way in GW2. So i have been running around unguilded all this time and I am stuck wondering something. Is playing in the Overflow really all that bad of a thing? Am I being a noob by not traveling when the button shows up?
It doesn’t run very well on my macbook pro 13" with the intel graphics in it..
It feels like they put dungeons in because they felt obligated to but didn’t really want to I feel like they really wanted to make a PVP centric game and had to put some PVE on there to have that universal appeal or to give the illusion that for those of you that enjoy PVE we have something for you as well..
I think the difficulty is hard for the devs to tune around not having the mechanics of healer tank dps where everything is more or less a free for all or you have to try and do all 3 roles. It was my first real big reservation about this game but I would venture to guess that a majority of the crowd playing this game are going to have their endgame be PVP…

Due to the fact that the trinity doesn’t need to exist in this game I don’t see why they didn’t add a random grouping system for dungeon running. In my opinion it was the single greatest enhancement that Blizzard ever put into WoW and for a new MMO to come out without it is a bit short sighted.
I totally disagree, nothing like running pugs with a bunch of people that don’t want to say a thing and just want to rush rush rush through the dungeon as fast as they can. At least right now I hope people are learning to slow down and use strategy again.
Between a Wife 5 kids and a full time job I don’t have time for that type of dungeon running experience…
I don’t mind a system to help create a group, as long as it doesn’t end up like WoW. Where we end up sitting in cities, with insta-teleports, and where we don’t even have to speak to each other. This is an MMO after all, when forming/joining/running in groups, we should be communicating.
The reason we end up using Org and SW as lobbies while we wait for queues to pop in WoW is because we have seen Azeroth for the last 7 years and frankly have explored enough of it that we just don’t care anymore. Tyria is a brand new world and we as players would be fools to not be out exploring it especially with the way XP gains work in this game. Also the dynamic events (rifts) being what they are those still give you a reason to be out in the open world and they do give you rewards for that effort.
