I think he/she is right, I tried to tell myself it was to help them testing their servers but it couldn’t help, it was too much boring and repetitive and I dropped after 20 min.
For these reason I think I won’t play the second stress test but if you put even a few new events or a single new area, that could bring more players (including myself).

The point of the stress test isn’t to entertain players.

We conduct stress tests when the developers are able to participate. This is not a preview, this is a test with a purpose. We’re fully aware that not everyone will be able to participate, and we’re sorry. But asking the dev team to time-shift to work during night-time hours for a stress test would be counterproductive.

We thank those who choose to and are able to participate and we look forward to seeing everyone on September 22nd when we launch the game!

I will be at work. But that is ok. I can wait for the PoF release.

Thanks for being so understanding. The game will be better for everyone with the help of those who are able to participate, and I appreciate your positive attitude!

I am going to look into a solution for this.

A player left.

Illconceived Was Na.9781

As you might know, the NA world, The Sanctum of Rall, was named after a long-time GW1 player who died before the game was released. However, generally speaking, guilds can place Monuments in memory of longtime friends, co-players, companions.

Notably, devs used to name things left & right for GW1 fans. For GW2, ANet changed the policy and has only done it in some very compelling cases (although they do name quite a lot of stuff after GW2 employees).

In a game with millions of accounts and millions of long-term players, it’s inevitable that some players will die, some tragically. It’s noble to want to honor them all. As a practical matter, it’s not possible to do so.

I’m not against honoring Valcorie. I am against putting ANet in the position of feeling that they need to do so or refrain from offering condolences when people mention the passing of a loved one.

That’s exactly what you’re suggesting and thank you for re-quoting the post so I didn’t have to.

Obviously, you only see what you want to see, not what was actually said. I said that the aspect of telling things in a way so that even kids (or people of low IQ) would be able to follow the story was one thing I am critizing. That has nothing to do with the use of contemporary language, which is another thing I criticize.

I don’t know how much clearer I can make this for you to understand, but I am getting the feeling that, no matter in how many different ways I am trying to explain this to you, you will always read it the way you want it so you can keep on arguing. And that is something I am not getting further into. Good luck.

Some of you asked me to give examples. I can’t from the top of my head come up with the most crucial ones I’ve noticed these past couple of years, so I have to refer to the most recent ones I played.

Before I do so, let me say this to avoid any misunderstanding: My OP is NOT just about the voice acting. There are enough threads dealing with that topic.
This is about the modern juvenile tone set by the scripted dialogue: the use of certain contractions, cheeky slang, and (partially) slurry pronunciation and intonation (encouraged by the script, so I don’t blame the actors).

Now, I played through S2 and HoT again these past weeks, the most recent mission I played was Buried Insight. I will provide a handful of examples from said mission so you guys understand what I am geneally talking about here (I will mark the words/parts/contractions that heavily contribute to the aforementioned overall feeling, but you will really have to play through the missions to fully grasp the feeling in comparisson to, let’s say, GW1 or GW2 core campaign dialogue):

  • Big deal. It’ll fall just like the rest.
  • Yeah, how did you…? Ah. Gotcha.
  • Outta the way, chak!
  • That dragon’s not gonna sit around while we find this Rata Novan research.
  • Yay, us. / I’m okay.
  • Sounds like asuran tech incoming.
  • How’s it working now, Taimi?
  • Where’d we end up?
  • and so forth, and so on

P.S. on the annoying use of modern day contractions: In the same mission, the voice actor of Canach refused to slur his pronunciation that way. One of his lines went: “I’m not saying it, nature is.” But he pronounced it instead: “I am not saying it, nature is.” (which made a difference, as does the rest of his crystal clear pronunciation) Also, Canach’s lines in general sound a lot more literary in style than those of many of the other characters — especially Taimi and Braham truly sound like contemporary teenagers, but Jory and Kas sometimes do too, as does the Commander, and even Rytlock who recently has adopted a “grumpy ol’ redneck” diction.

P.P.S. As for the “childish tone”, some of the dialogue exchanged does remind me of watching an action hero cartoon rather than reading The Lord of Rings. I prefer my fantasy world classy rather than feeling like I was watching a tv show targeting eleven year olds.

Ashantara.8731

Dear developers,

GW used to have mature dialogue. Still filled with humor, but not sounding particularly childish. Since LWS2, dialogue has become more and more “childish”, using modern day tongue-in-cheek teen language. It no longer sounds like the classy fantasy theme this game once was but more and more like a reality tv show.

One of the reasons Canach is so popular is because his voice actor refuses to read dialogue that way (with all it’s cheeky contractions etc.) but keeps pronouncing it like a Shakespearean actor. It makes people take him more seriously, respect him and his dark humor instead of looking upon him like he was a clown.

There really needs to be change in the way dialogue is written. I can’t take the Commander nor most of the adult NPCs seriously anymore when they talk like 2017 American teens. (Even Ogden Stonehealer, a very old and renowned character, is occasionally talking like that.)

Please? This is not a game made for kids only but for everyone, and adult characters should act and talk accordingly. Also, this is not our modern day world, and I don’t want to get the feeling that it is, because if I wanted that, I wouldn’t be playing GW.

With the next release, we will be making a change to the Watchtower Cliffs (aka: the centaur stronghold) area of Lake Doric. The Harathi centaurs noticed that while those who shout “I can outrun a centaur” were not much of a threat, those who could build turrets and other weaponry were. They reached back to their command in the Harathi Hinterlands and requested support, which has come in the form of trebuchet fire aimed at enemies in their Lake Doric stronghold.

This change is intended to discourage players from AFKing in the centaur stronghold. The strikes come swiftly and carry a powerful punch – especially towards summons – while not becoming overly punishing to those who are playing through the entire area. Keep an eye out and be ready to evade the bombardments!

We will continue to monitor the centaur’s stronghold area and will investigate potential changes to incentivize intended gameplay in the area.

We want to reward players for playing the map while it is in Beta and give a cool title to represent that you were there during its beta phase. The beta tag will not be there forever as we will make changes to the map to bring it up the level of other conquest maps. The achievements are in for around 3 months, going from an entire off-season into a full active season.

After talking with the team we do agree it will be hard for players to get their Capricorn achievements so we have gone ahead and pinned both Coliseum and Capricorn for the next two weeks. Thank you all for you feedback and we will see you in the mists.

Players Working on the Capricorn Achievments?

If we don’t complain, and just roll with the punches as you seem to be suggesting… then well, there’s no chance of anything happening.

The extent of the moaning is absurd.

“Anet should have told us sooner that the time was limited.” They did. Read the update notes.

They did. However, they changed the rules for the last two weeks, and that wasn’t communicated in advance.

“Let’s have a separate Q for each map.” Sure, now everyone suffers long-kitten Qs to benefit the achievement hunters who waited too long.

And waiting for 3 minutes then being stuck for 10 minutes or so on a map you don’t want to play is better?

Separate queues would mean that the people who want to play the maps can, and the people who don’t, for whatever reason, can play the other maps without de facto trolling the people who do want the beta maps.

And if you want shorter queues, just check all the boxes, just like it currently works with Stronghold.

“Let us play it in custom arenas.” Capricorn achieve arena pops up, everybody gets the title in 25 matches. (Sad thing is, I’m sure this sounds like heaven to you guys.)

Did anyone actually suggest that?

“Add Capricorn to Ranked.” As if Ranked didn’t have enough DH unbalance as it is. (Not talking about build balance, just the lame team comps in DH meta.)

I think this was aiming towards resolving the conflict between playing ranked and playing unranked for an achievement. Making it finish when the season did was a curious choice.

“Extend the time limit.” So what’s the point of setting a limit in the first place?

Good question. What was the point of setting a limit in the first place? Particularly if you’re going to change the rules before that limit expires?

The only reasonable gripe is that Coliseum was added and took over Capricorn’s pinned spot a couple weeks early. To be fair, though, players still have had ample time to finish the achieve many times over, and even now it’s not out of reach to finish it up.

This may come as a surprise to you, but sometimes people have peaks and troughs in the times they’re able to play. This can lead people to make decisions like, say “okay, this particular thing is available for three months, but there’s a month in there that I won’t be able to play much, so I’ll do a bit in the first month and finish it off in the third”. Having the rules changed so it’s significantly harder to get games does, as another poster stated, feel like getting the rug pulled out from under your feet.

I do think that Capricorn should get the pin back until the end of s4.

That would probably be sufficient for most people here. Still a pain compared to waiting until Oct 3 to release the new map, but that way you’d at least be able to cast a vote for the map you want each game, rather than it being two layers of RNG to get the map.

Also doesnt make much sense to push people to play unranked during season

The capricorn Achievements should last until the Start of Season 5 and not only until the End of Season 4

Because that time in between the season is when people actually can play unranked a lot
and exactly in that time we WONT be able to play the new maps??

seems like a bad decision in this case to me :/

Could you please change it to have Capricorn last until the start of Season 5
and Coliseum until the start of Season 6?

I knew from the get go that the capricorn achievements were temporary but since you said it will be available only until season 4 ends, I am annoyed that you decided to add the colloseum achievements in conjunction with the capricorn achievements. You may as well have said that the capricorn achieves end yesterday because they’ve effectively become improbable to have matches on it with colloseum overshadowing it. It’s just injury to insult at this point.

That’s pretty much what annoys me as well.

We’ve been aware for a while that we only have a limited time to do the achievements. It’s annoying for people who’ve been busy and unable to play for some of that time, and it’s infuriating that you’re pretty much relying on the luck of the spin even to have the opportunity to work on the achievements (really, the achievements should either be unlimited in time or you should be able to have the option of opting out of playing other maps while you’re working on them) but at least we knew in advance that was the case and could plan around it. Weren’t able to play so much in the early weeks? That’s okay, you can plan to put in a bit of extra time towards the end to make up for it. Or so we thought.

Except now you’ve taken that away. Coliseum wasn’t even hinted at that I saw until a couple of weeks ago, and if there was any clear indication before the patch landed that Capricorn was going to be unpegged before Oct. 3, I certainly didn’t see it (some people predicted that a new map might change the pegging, and it was certainly predicted that a new map might alter the voting spread, but one could easily hope that sanity would prevail and Capricorn would still receive preferential treatment for as long as the limited-term achievements remained). Said unpegging now means that anyone trying to finish the achievements (I’m three wins short…) is likely to have to go through about twice* as many matches that don’t contribute to the achievement for each one that does, putting a major wrench in the plans of anyone who was planning to finish it off.

At the very least, Capricorn needs to go back to being pegged until October 3rd. Drop one of the random maps from the possible rotation if you have to in order to make room. Better yet, implement a temporary option that allows people to select that they want to play Capricorn and only Capricorn until the achievements close.

Even better, just scrap the idea of temporary achievements on PvP maps altogether and make them permanent, so people can relax and just get it when they get it rather than having to race the calendar.

This isn’t just an issue for the people who want to finish off the achievements. I haven’t done it myself, but I’ve seen people before the patch who really want to play Capricorn throwing matches on other maps in the hope that they can get back to a Capricorn map faster. Giving people the tools to just get it done already – or taking the pressure off and removing the time limit – should stop or at least reduce that behaviour.

*With 7 maps in the rotation, there’s roughly a 43% chance of any given map being an option in the vote. So simply depegging it reduces the chance of getting Capricorn by more than half, without considering the effect of changed voting patterns… or the possibility of a bug whereby it may not be coming up at all.

To those who think Scarlet hate means she’s succeeded as a villain:
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.

As we previously posted, today’s release unfortunately contained a bug that damaged character records, and in response we’ve taken down the game servers and are in the process of rolling back the state of the game to where it was before the release.

We shut down the game servers at approximately 11:30 am PDT (18:30 GMT), and we’re rolling back the game state to 9:10 am PDT (16:10 GMT), so there’s a 2h 20m window where all changes to the game are being rolled back. Here are the details for what will happen to various changes made during that window.

If you created a new account during that time period, you’ll have to create it again. If you changed an account, for example changing your password or applying two-factor authentication, you’ll have to redo that change. If the customer support team changed your account for you, for example restoring it to you, they’ll redo that change over the next 24 hours.

If you purchased the game on an existing account, we’ll restore your purchase. If you purchased the game on a newly created account, you’ll need to recreate your account. We’ll contact you so we can restore your purchase after you have recreated your account.

If you purchased gems, we’ll restore the gems. If you purchased an item using gems, that purchase will be rolled back, and you’ll have your gems back. You can purchase again. If you purchased a sale item that’s no longer on sale, you can purchase again, then contact customer support for a refund of the difference between the current price and the sale price.

All in-game transactions are being rolled back, including transactions through the currency exchange, trading post, guild bank, and in-game mail. The trading post will come back online after the rest of the game does, and with buy and sell offers back where they were prior to this morning’s release.

Character progress made during the affected time period is being rolled back. If you had an extreme situation, for example you got a precursor from the mystic forge and then had that rolled back, contact our customer support team and we’ll try to help you.

Thank you for bearing with us through this process. We’ll be back online soon.

lol no… if I need to run afk I am not going to just leave the map I am in. And if my minions decide to kill kitten while I am off doing whatever I had to do that isn’t my fault.

It’s a standard mmo practice that if you’re going AFK, you go to a safe-spot… especially if you know you’ll be afk longer than a bio. It doesn’t matter how you choose to do it: going to a waypoint where mobs don’t spawn, porting to your home instance, or even logging out to character select.

Yeah, there’s going to be exceptions, but they are just that: exceptions… it’s not the norm nor the expected norm.

If your minions are killing stuff while you’re afk then it IS your fault. You chose to stay where mobs spawn and you chose to have minions out (you can always toggle Flesh of the Master to kill all your minions) FULLY KNOWING how your minions behave.
