Inb4 this was a calculated ‘leak’ so they can then ‘generously’ change the decision to show how ‘in touch’ they are with WvW players.

Say what

I’m just going to squash this rumor right now. Before the strong negative feedback received after the interview at gamescom, every intention was for each color to cost 300g. Pending QA, that version was ready to ship for the feature pack.

When the flood of feedback came in, there was a flurry of emails working out the best course of action, and in the end Zach and Tyler worked the weekend to make sure this change could be made on time for 9/9.

You got it all wrong. 300 golds per color is unreasonable. You need ability to change between different colors for colors to be useful, paying 300g per color defeat that.

Also, color is not the only feature we wanted. Tag only visible to guild/squad were a BIG one.

If you want to make people pay for more tags feature it’s fine but do it right. Here is an example of how I see tags should cost :

Tag Level 1 : Private Commander Tag

Only visible to squad and guild members
Color : Gold (Yellow)
Price : 100g

Tag Level 2 : Public Commander Tag

The commander tag that we all know currently, visible to everyone on the map.
Color : Blue
Price : 200g
Requirement : Have the private commander tag

Tag Level 3 : Colored Commander Tag

Like the public commander tag but you can switch between 5 different colors
Color: Blue, Red, Pink, Green, Orange
Price : 200g
Requirement : have the public commander tag

All tag’s levels are account bound.

I think they will announce an expansion at gamescom but if they don’t I think its over. With the new WoW expansion coming out it will take a huge chunk if the playerbase if there is not Gw2 expansion. Most people I know in GW2 will want to play GW2 expansion over the WoW expansion but if there’s not Gw2 expansion people will go back to wow this isn’t arguable. The living story will not cut it for all the content it should be secondary content. Eso was a big let down but you could see Anet was trying to change a lot with there game (megaservers, wardrobe bunch of other stuff). Well we know WoW isn’t gonna screw up that bad. The most popular MMO ever made taking in over a billion dollars a year. So my guess is we need an expansion.

I may be just getting happy for nothing, as my imagination is bigger than all out doors.

I am hoping that Rytlock following The Sword Sohothin, will eventually bring on a quest, that we will have to force open the UW and/or FoW to go after him.

Then all shall rejoice after that story completes, and we can go back into UW and FoW as the new 10 to 20 man Raid style dungeons are Re Imagined using the GW2 engine.

Come on you know you want this to happen, just a little.

On Buddhism and gaming, since it arose in this thread.

I am a practicing Buddhist, have been for a long time. It has minimal influence on my enjoyment of entertainment. Nor does Buddhism prevent violence. Buddhism is about knowing who you are and understanding your motivations.

Like other philosophical systems, Buddhism has variations. If you go back to its core, Buddhism is not a religion. It is a road-map for thinking.

Thus it is not incompatible with gaming or Guild Wars.

BTW, I love the Buddha-bears and their psuedo-zen koans. Wonderful. Can I play one someday, ANet?

Seems they are useless in this world of constant danger and fighting.

Pay with GEMS for new story??

Posted by: Konig Des Todes.2086

Konig Des Todes.2086

What’s this? You have to pay for DLC expansions?

What insanity! It’s like ArenaNet is doing something every other company doesn’t do!

Oh wait, they are… by having it free if you log on for even 1 second within 2 weeks of the update’s release.

Honestly, you don’t even have to pay the content. Just turn on your computer (laptop or desktop), run GW2, go away, come back a couple hours later, log in, let the loading screen occur (go do something if you want), and then close once you see the game itself.

Family? Work? School? Vacation? If you cannot even spare 5 non-consecutive minutes then I think you have bigger problems than “I have to pay for releases that others got for free! QQ”

Like time management issues.

@Dizzie: No game in existence will ever give you an expansion for free. If you want new content, you’ll have to pay for it just like you’d have to pay for the base game. GW2 isn’t free to play, it’s buy to play – buy once and have it for eternity or your account’s permabanned. GW1 was the same, and you had to buy each campaign and expansion. Season 2 is different in that you have a chance – like a reversely rigged lottery (where it’s completely in your favor) – to get it for free. And it won’t disappear, ever.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

Why do people continue to expect the game to be designed around conditions it isn’t designed for. Specifically, poor framerates (which are a symptom of your hardware, or a bug in rendering code) or latency (which is a symptom of your poor connection speed, and Arenanet’s decision not to locate a hub that would provide you with a playable connection)

The issues people have with the limited, simply jumping in dry top either fall in to the “I don’t like jumping” camp, or the “I can’t jump because my client doesn’t work properly” camp.

For those in the first camp: The amount of crystal work required to access content is minimal and easy. I’m sure there are other things in the open world everyone doesn’t like. I hate that the devourers have autohit life leeches for instance. It’s not as if you have to perform some death defying super-hard jumping puzzle just to get through the zone.

For those in the second camp: The problem isn’t with the design of the content, it’s either your computer, your connection, or arenanet’s backend not supporting your configuration. If you have framerate issues on a machine that shouldn’t have them, you should be complaining about the bugs in the rendering code that cause that. If you have latency issues because you live in a place that isn’t well served by anet’s server locations, you should be complaining about that.

However, if you simply have slow hardware or a bad connection, don’t demand the game be designed around your sub-optimal situation. The game is designed to work within certain constraints of processing, GPU, and connection speed. If you don’t meet those requirements because of your rig or connecton, the game isn’t the problem, you are. If you don’t meet those requirements because the game IS the problem then it isn’t the content, it’s the backend.

In either case your “some people can’t do the content so it shouldn’t be there” is a flawed argument. The content works well for people that meet the expected user conditions, and the expected user conditions are the design target for any game.

My least favourite are the Quaggan just because I feel like they’re out of place and were put in game as a joke race.

I’m not fond of the Hylek either, but only because of how GW2 presents them – they were more compelling for me in GW1.

And I’m still super annoyed at the Grawl having reasonable english and american accents…

Feedback/Questions: MegaServer

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: phys.7689

phys.7689

Just want to chip in that the lasting effects I see of the current implementation of megaservers is that while servers are generally well populated, Anet are basically killing/neglecting the most important aspect of a thriving MMORPG; the community is at a severe disadvantage to getting relevant players together, whether that comes from friends at a micro-level to groups/guilds at the macro level and players from your own homeworld at the biggest level. Before you’d see the same names over and over and develop a sense of community and belonging, now even guilds and small groups are facing too many barriers just getting to play together, and as such megaservers in their current implementation are just killing off GW2’s most important factor.

Anet – you seriously need to revise your algorithms/implementations of megaservers and how you put players together in shards; come up with a way of handling “districts” like in GW1 and rather than having people spam “join in <zone>” to get in over and over when a shard is full, queue people up just like you do for WvW entry so that people can rather focus on playing the game in the meantime while still moving forward in queue to get in to the same shard as their friends/guilds/etc.

yeah i have said it before, ill say it again, in order for megaservers to work well, they have to come up with new means of identifying, encouraging and developing communities, and megaserver has to be able to accomodate people who specifically want to go out of their way to play together.

so allow players to create/develop/manage communities based on shared interests, and then allow them to travel together

Why no capes?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: StinVec.3621

StinVec.3621

This topic always brings these images to my mind.
Using charr as an excuse is just that, an excuse, not sound reasoning to justify their non-implementation.

Charr should not have capes then, in the traditional sense.
It is not one size fits all (or one style for all). Give the other species capes or variations of capes (like the pics) and give charr something that functions appropriately for their body type and animations.

Nowhere is it said that all things must be identical across all species in the game. There are plenty of examples where things are intentionally different across the various species. Capes (or whatnot) should be no different.

What race do you want playable?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

~~Tengu are not rises because they have the wall and most likely kill there own people before they can become that, its also possible they have a ancient item that stops that, but do remember they are dealing with Primordus minions.

As for the sylvari, most likely are dragon minions and there are plenty of theory’s out there and such.

Here is a thought, Why have we not seen any undead dwarfs, or any of Primordus minions made of dwarfs given they are now rock….

The Tengu are not actually openly attacking Primordus minions. They are more like that old cranky guy on the block screaming “Get off my lawn!” at anything remotely hostile. (Which was clearly evident during the invasion of LA. They shot at everyone without a care in the world.) It is also possible that both the Tengu and the Dwarves (pre-stoning) had cremation traditions. That or dwarves turn to stone when they die (Returning to the earth as dwarves are often reported of doing in numerous mythos). There is also the posibility that when the humans arrived in tyria the dwarves left the area around Orr (if they were ever there in the first place), preferring the mountainous, colder climate in the shiverpeaks. (Dwarves were only found in the shiverpeaks in any large numbers.) As for no dwarven destroyers, take a look at gw1 destroyers and you will see a major change in appearances. The only one that stayed somewhat the same was the Troll destroyers. they basically just lost their tails. (A good example of a sleeping dragon vs a non-sleeping dragon perhaps?)

From the wiki “They (destroyers) are forged from the molten heart of their master—Primordus”. Primordus is the only known dragon that doesn’t corrupt creatures. He sculpts them. Why has he never made a copy of a dwarf? Because they don’t, on their own, have very good combat traits when compared to other creatures. They are short, and sturdy sure, but their reach is limited, and speed is slow. Compared to a crab destroyer they are also less stable on their feet (You can’t beat multiple legs with just 2) and crabs also have inbuilt weapons with their claws. Trolls are faster and have a much greater reach, and in addition to those harpies can fly. Its not like Primordus can make perfect copies to try and infiltrate the dwarven line, so there is no need for him to make dwarven destroyers.

It is also possible that the “blessing” of the Great Dwarf protects them from such things, but given the above mentioned tactical notes I doubt this is the cause.

There’s plenty of “Endgame” content:
1. Working for legendaries.
2. Making a name for yourself on your server through WvW and PvP (And now the game in general, with Megaservers)
3. Becoming a leader of PvE events or in WvW.
4. Keeping up with Living Story.
5. Making and running a guild.
