SAB temporary content - sincere question

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Permanent would be great, but that will never happen. I’m actually coming to like the fact that it’s evolved into a festival now. This means guaranteed SAB each year, and with that, I’m fairly certain we’ll see new guild hall decorations and potentially new skins and achievements released in subsequent years.

Personally, I’m hoping they decide to be generous to us and simply extend it by another week. One more week of SAB! If they surprised us with that at the last minute, people would be giddy to have a slight extension to finish up their achieves or grind out more baubles for guild hall decorations. Folks would love it!

Similarly, this would give the devs an extra week of content creation/balance/bugfixes/etc that they wouldn’t have had, and likely allowing them to throw another layer of polish on whatever incoming build they have in store for us. Even if the upcoming patch is already finalized, this would provide the dev team a bit of time to “work ahead,” as it were, on larger ongoing projects or get a few errant tasks completed.

It’s a win/win!

Chant with me now, bookahs: “One more week! One more week!”

There was a time GW2 was Casual Friendly

Just a simple question … if you are casual, why do you need Commander’s armor specifically?

Sure, it might not be casual friendly, I agree. But it’s not really a concern is it?

Things that people claimed weren’t casual friendly pre-HoT:

Fractals (3 mini dungeons plus a boss?! I don’t have time for that I play 20min a day, I’m casual!)
Dungeons (I can’t get into a group because I don’t have zerk gear and I don’t speedrun! I’m casual!)
World completion (why do we have to do WvW for world completion, I’m casual, I don’t like PvP!)
Story-mode finale (I need a group to finish the story?! what the heck Anet! I’m too casual for that!)
Living Story S1 (these LS events are timed?! You’re saying I can’t do all of the achievements within the 2 weeks if I only play 10min a day?! I’m casual, wtf ANET!
Living Story S2 (wtf Anet, I didn’t log in when these were released because I’m super casual, and now you want me to grind gold so I can trade for gems? I’m casual! I don’t have the time nor money to do this!)
Dailies (Whoa, Anet, look at how long it’s taking to do these dailies! And I have to do it to get laurels?! I’m only on for 2min a day! I can’t possibly get all of this AP that you are forcing me to get! Make it casual friendly!)

I think a lot of people think that casual friendly means everything needs to be able to be completed quickly or easily. A casual player does not imply a bad player, it implies someone that plays at their own, typically slow, pace. Being able to do things at your own pace: that’s the definition of being casual friendly.

In GW2 you can do literally everything at your own pace (minus holiday events, as those are time limited). That is casual friendly. Raids is the only area that I would say has the biggest obstacle to casual players, and that’s getting a 10man group together.

I’d love to hear what exactly in GW2 you couldn’t do at your own, casual, pace.

If something takes a long time, it doesn’t mean it isn’t casual friendly, it just means it will take longer to complete, but it can still be 100% casual.

People claimed crafting legendaries wasn’t casual, but I can assure you I crafted two from scratch, casually, over the course of 2 years. Some days I felt like working towards a requirement, some days I didn’t. I dictated the pace I completed things. THAT IS CASUAL.

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….

How is Anet going to top Mordremoth?

in Lore

Posted by: Ehecatl.9172

Ehecatl.9172

Honestly, I am hoping that Kraalkatorrik and Jormag, upon seeing how we’ve managed to defeat Zhaitan and Modremoth, finally realize how big of a threat we are as a united front and launch a two pronged invasion from the Crystal Desert in the south and Shiverpeaks in the north.

I doubt the remnants of the PACT could handle a two sided assault with the same relative ease at it does with just one. Then you also have political conflict between the Charr and Norn as they both insist on focusing most of the PACT’s resources on the threat closest to them, forcing the other three races and the PC to choose sides. The Vigil being lead by a Charr might even break away from the PACT if the PACT’s choice is to focus more on Jormag than the Iron legion.

Even among the Charr there’d be a divide in interests. Blood Legion is a lot closer to the Nothern Shiverpeaks than they are to the Crystal Desert. So do they defend their own borders or risk it to support Iron? It might even force Smodur into using the Claw of the Khan-Ur so we can finally resolve that plot thread.

Maybe even have a player vote to decide which dragon gets the largest amount of our attention, which changes the outcome of the story. I’d like to see one of the racial capitals get wrecked next, and us focusing on say, Jormag, would lead to Kraalkatorrik destroying Black Citadel and vice versa.

After we defeat both dragons I’d also want the next expansion to involve something not dragon specific. With Jormag and Kraalkatorrik gone the last two dragons are both fairly distant threats, which opens a period of safety that could be advantageous.

My vote would be to open up Elona by having Palawa Joko take an interest in the now dragon-free and very weakened and vulnerable Tyria.

Why I think HoT failed

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Blood Red Arachnid.2493

Blood Red Arachnid.2493

I’m not sure it is a failure at all. HoT added a lot of things that are pretty decent.

#1: Harder enemies. I’ve been wanting that for awhile.
#2: Elaborate maps and more involved maps. Always a good thing.
#3: A metroid style of progression where you gain the ability to explore new areas.
#4: The elite specializations are awesome (if a bit power-creepy), and I like playing as most of them.
#5: A large series of collections and achievements for completionists.
#6: Some pretty cool looking skins.
#7: Events that are actually fun to do.

So, I like the xpac, and from what I’ve heard it has sold really well, so I wonder what your standard of failure is.

I don’t have opinions. I only have facts I can’t adequately prove.

Upcoming Balance Changes: Week of December 14, 2015

An Update from our Balance Team:

As developers, we try to push certain aspects of gameplay that align with our vision for the game, but unfortunately things don’t always pan out the way that we hoped they would. A current example of this is the bunker meta that has formed in PvP over the past two weeks across all tiers of play, from Amber Division all the way up to our Pro Leagues. We’ll be honest: we’re not happy with the current meta, and it certainly doesn’t do a great job of showcasing the things that make Guild Wars 2 great, namely our action-based combat.

While our post-HoT balance strategy is to deliver a major balance update every quarter, we do want to emphasize that if glaring issues arise during seasons we won’t hesitate to address them. To this point, on Monday we announced that we’d be making a few mid-season balance changes. After lengthy internal conversation driven both by discussion on our own forums and on other platforms, we have decided to implement one more additional balance change with this week’s update.

Mesmer:

  • Well of Precognition: This ability now applies distortion instead of blur and prevents capture-point contribution. Casting time has been increased from 0.25 seconds to 0.75 seconds, and aftercast delay has been reduced from 0.5 seconds to 0 seconds.

A fair number of gameplay implications can arise from such a seemingly small change, so we want to be very clear with all of you regarding our intentions. First and foremost, we understand that this change may have impact on other areas of the game, and that is precisely why we’re viewing today’s change as a short-term solution. We’ll be revisiting all skills in our end-of-January balance update, and we’ll be sharing the specifics of the planned changes with you in early January. In the interim, because this skill will be classified as "no-cap”—meaning that it does not contribute to capture point progress—we’d suggest that you keep an eye out for mesmers using this skill in PvP matches, as they could potentially cause you to decap a point in a way similar to the stealth function. The change to this skill will now also prevent you from interacting with certain channels objectives, such as supply piles in Stronghold or the Meditation buffs in Temple of the Silent Storm.

This change will be included our in hotfix later today.

I do not understand these threads. “My family and I have played thousands of hours, but we feel ‘cheated’ because the person who is joining now plays the core game for free or pays just the one fee for Heart of Thorns.”

Let’s consider another type of purchase, that of DVDs. FotR was $30 when it came out on DVD. You now can get all three chapters of LotR for less than $20. But the person who buys now lost years of viewing pleasure because he didn’t own the video at release. LotR is shown for free on television, but that doesn’t negate the value of purchasing the DVDs, for those of us who chose to make those purchases. Imagine showing up at a DVD retailer and saying, “This movie is now free. I want money off another title.”

The hours in Guild Wars 2 that your family has enjoyed—very likely the thousands of accumulated hours—are not without value. They are not, to us, without cost. The 40 major updates we have made to the game that you have been enjoying for three years each add significant value to your purchases: Wintersday festivals that a new player will never be able to attend, major in-game events they’ll never see, drops that were only available to you, as a veteran player, during a limited period.

The position in the first post has been put forth by different people and successfully dispelled time and time again. OP — Please know that we greatly appreciate your support. I encourage you to make whatever purchase decision is best for you and your family. But please never forget that all you have gotten for each of your purchases does have value, in the overall view of things.

Due to its unintended behavior, the Symbolic Avenger trait has been temporarily disabled until the next scheduled release. If you were using this trait, we suggest you select a different one until the trait is re-enabled.

Gonna give grenadier the same treatment?

We are looking at many things. And the reports you share are extremely helpful in honing in on the most critical issues.

The correct answer was “Yes, we understand that Grenadier is literally breaking PvP in our game and are quickly working on a fix. Sorry for the huge delay in fixing near-instant 15k+ AoEs from stealth.”

You mean I should erase 6 months of work on my main account?

Nothx. Then I rather quit the game.

Not true. They clearly said all progress remains if you upgrade and take advantage of the offer.

For all players who purchased the Guild Wars 2 core game from our website and registered it between January 23, 2015 and June 16, 2015 in anticipation of Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns, we will automatically refund what you paid for the core game should you decide to pre-purchase Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns from our website or in-game store any time through July 31, 2015. If you take advantage of this refund and pre-purchase Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns, all of your current account progress will be kept intact.

Since the most recent sale priced GW2 base at $10, exactly the equivalent of a character slot, this makes excellent sense.

Expansion + GW2 base game = Expansion + character slot.

Perfect solution.

Please stop saying like if all the stuff we already got on our accounts have fallen on us from sky. It is earned through time, game and gem purchases.
New players can have all this stuff too, by spending their time and money. We are equal here.
So the argument “You already have much on your account they don’t” fails. It wasn’t actually free, it was available through game experience. Jast as it is for new players.

Sorry but i’m livid. I’ve had it UP TO HERE with all those white knights saying “people would be far less agitated if not for free core game bundled for new players”.

No. Stop insulting me, making me some sort of grinch that can’t bear other people’s fun. I’m all for them getting it for free, more players the merrier (especially in this game, and it’s pvp hehe).

My beef is that standard package does not feature extra character slot for a new profession that must be made as new character and is a payed (50$!) expansion content. If they cannot do their xpac buyer this basic courtesy, which is upheld by almost all and any mmorpg company, far less reputable ones at that, then we got a problem here. It’s about the principle for me (since i got a free slot anyway).

If you think Dragonhunters got a fair shake, look at these images:

Dragon hunter: https://d3b4yo2b5lbfy.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/f4d76Glamor-1.jpg

Druid: https://dviw3bl0enbyw.cloudfront.net/uploads/forum_attachment/file/179625/Druid_shoulders.jpg

Reaper: https://d3b4yo2b5lbfy.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/bc1afGlamor-1.jpg

Chronomancer: http://totallygamergirl.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/guild_wars_2_heart_of_thorns_chronmancer_02.jpg

Druid, Reaper, Chronomancer all capture the essence of the class and provide stylistically complementary weapon and gear pieces. The teams that developed them had a clear image they wanted to represent.

Dragonhunter, on the other hand, is sold as a big-game-hunter, given a bow that is back line support, kitted-out in two laughably dull dragon-pieces, and then spun by the community managers as a zealous “witch hunter”. It’s all over the place!

Anyway, with the images of Braham and Eir’s bow, it’s quite clear Anet is making us dragonhunters because Braham is a guardian and he has a bone to pick with Mordermoth. It’s fine if they want Kasmeer and Majory and Rytlock to be the “exemplars” of other classes but not every class needs to follow they Destiny Edge counterpart. It’s bad, contrived storytelling and it is trying to shoehorn a popular class into a role that doesn’t fit it.

PS: One final image to leave you all with.
http://dulfy.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/gw2-guardian-elite-specialization-teaser.jpg

The image above is what hyped everyone: it’s an image of a specialized guardian, nothing more or less. No dragon theme.

(And as a tiny grievance, the colors are even right in the teaser image whereas dragonhunter was revealed in shades of… copper?)

True Seeker does have a broader scope & name usage;

Enemies

  • White Mantle
  • Charr
Of note most foe seekers were tried to the ranger profession

Allies

  • Seeker of Whispers – which looks to be a rank in the Order of Whispers

Environement

  • Seekers passage – name after the Seekers who were pilgrims said to have crossed the Crystal Desert in search of a new home.

Seeker of Whisper from my understanding was a collector of information & knowledge.
Seekers were just pilgrims looking for a home & enemy seekers were heavily based in the ranger profession. I would first think of this being a Range Elite before anything else but I now can see it working for DH or any other spec using a bow. I would think lore wise they would derived from a heavy ranger influence, with links to rangers. But unlike DH trap type skills were never used on seekers.

Like Lindelle said, that’s pretty much the entire book. Well, the being formed part would be the first half of the book; the second half is time skips of them fighting 2 dragon champions, Kralkatorrik, and breaking up.

If you’re wanting to know the events of ~200 pages, you would be better off buying and reading the book yourself TBH.

Until/unless someone goes about making a story summary of the book. But given that such hasn’t happened yet, it’s unlikely to happen.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
