Something's Bothering Me

I think most people have the right idea here. The Revenant is going to be something of the Mists, which connect to all periods of time and space equally. A Revenant could start the game at max level due to this, because they could have trained in the Mists to that point. Or a Revenant could be one of those lost people who entered the mists and never exited, finally finding their way out after untold amounts of personal time passing. The knowledge of what it is to be a Revenant could even be separate from the concept of “levels”, allowing a level one person to gain said knowledge and THEN begin their evolution and gaining of experience, each separate from the other.

Guild Halls, what's the point?

DracosBlackwing.3174

I will say they need to expand on the housing concept to create more of a sense of unity in the guild communities. The guilds I’ve belonged to were friendly, but only in a detached manner. Getting help for a mission or fight was almost impossible, as everyone was “busy”… even if that “business” was standing around joking in group chat and doing nothing else. In comparison, most guilds would have “mandatory” guild actions you were expected to drop everything to attend, and would react harshly if you weren’t there when they happened.

If the people in various guilds gather together and have a place to do all their various individual work, then they’re going to feel more connected and (possibly) be more social with each other, helping to make those guilds feel like actual groups of people who care about each other’s actions.

What I would like to see as a part of the guild bases is personal homes within the guild bases. A base with towers and outbuilding people can live in would allow players to invest more person interest in keeping those bases intact, and maybe rest bonuses or something could be added for getting to and maintaining the base to the size where players could have personal housing inside of them.

Lastly… maybe this is the set up to them returning this game to what it’s named for.

So these hang-gliders huh?

Looking at the “hang gliders” in the videos, I feel I should let you know. They’re not hang gliders.

They’re more like parachutes of a sort that lift you on updrafts; kind of a way to avoid falling damage, since a lot of these maps now seem to have a lot of vertical travel added to the horizontal travel. A hang glider would let you fly more, and even move around while keeping a more or less even height (diving a bit to pick up speed, then lifting some to gain height again). These look like they’re going to be very specific as to where you can use them.

Questions about Pricing and Payment [merged]

Hopefully they won’t price this at nearly the same price as the original game, seeing as it’s an expansion, not another full game. I paid $60 for the original; I’d hope an expansion of that would cost half or less than that.

The game grew boring and uninteresting once I had explored the majority of the main world; just an equipment grind and stupid PvP for bragging rights, which I’ve never enjoyed, but that I know most people live for in the North American servers. I’m hoping for more content I can play with… or without others, and more interesting, fun content that isn’t dependent on if other people I can play with are online or the quality of my gear.

"Explorer of the Mists" mode for WvW?

@ Toumir: I know it was kind of a long post, but I said Ghosts would be unable to interact with anything… ANYTHING… PvP based. Which means no “pulling huge mobs of NPCs”. As a Ghost, your only objective is to explore and to complete acheivements. You have no place in the PvP aspect of things.

@ Klawlyt: This concept is based on the idea of “two worlds in one”. As such, Ghosts wouldn’t count toward PvP slots, and vice versa. Each world would be able to support a certain number of each, without interfering with the other. If it was all intermixed, it would defeat the purpose of Ghosts in general. Another way to look at it is PvPers and Ghost would have separate queues for each particular world.

Laptop Freeze issue.

DracosBlackwing.3174

I’ve been recently having issues with GW2 freezing, then crashing my entire laptop. It had run fine before, but now it only seems able to run for a certain amount of time before the game freezes and crashes.

First, my system specs.

OS: Windows 7 Home
Processor: Intel Core i5-2450M CPU @ 2.50GHz, 2501 Mhz, 2 Cores
RAM: 6.00 GB
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M (drivers are current)
Hard Drive: Size: 447.66 GB Free Space: 247.96 GB

As noted, I have recently updated my video drivers. The issue seems to occur mainly when I make a sudden turn or other sharp movement. The screen will freeze, and there will be a periodic “buzzing” sound; the music will continue playing. I can get to the Task Manager, and the program shows as “not responding” no matter what I do from this point, the laptop will completely crash and has to be rebooted. I’ve tried closing the program, which causes an instant crash, and I’ve tried shutting down the computer, which gets me to the last shut down screen… then causes a crash.

This is a really annoying problem to me, as I used to be able to play the game for hours on end, and now the game locks up seemingly at the drop of a hat. I really want to get back to playing the game, but this issue makes me afraid to do permanent damage to my laptop, which is my only computer atm.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

"Explorer of the Mists" mode for WvW?

I was scanning the various threads here and found one on the notorious debate about WvW… whether someone should be forced to fight PvP in order to get Map Completion, and to complete the various non-PvP achievements that you can get there. And then the idea hit me.

What if there was a sort of “spectator/explorer” mode you could enter for WvW maps?

The lore on this would be that, in the beginning of exploration into the Mists, the new explorers in these areas used a safe, partial transmission of themselves into those areas… a sort of “Ghost” form. This form, though mostly insubstantial, had been stabilized by the Asura over time to allow exploration in those zones without exposing oneself to the dangers of other heroes from other places and times (other players).

In this mode you would be a sort of “Ghost” or "Neutral Player”. You could watch a fight unfold, but not be hit or do anything yourself; you would just be a silent watcher. You could enter any defended position (no matter which server controls it) to mark that point on the map, but you couldn’t disrupt it, nor could you avail yourself of any of it’s services (unless controlled by your server.)

Some might say, “But you could scout out an enemy location for your side!” but the “silent” aspect would prevent that; you would be unable to communicate in any way while doing this, not even in direct whispers. Of course any non-PvP interactions or combat would still be available.

The purpose of this mode would be to allow those who wish to complete the map to do so without being attacked, and also to allow those who want to see epic group combat go down to stand by and watch from a good vantage point… once again without getting attacked.

In this mode the player would:
- appear as a “ghost” (translucent, grey) or other “non-PvP” appearance. Could be based on class or race for flavor. (Charr Devourer, Asura minidrone, Sylvari Sproutling, etc.)
- be unable to be targeted or hit, and be able to be passed through by other players (including other Ghosts).

For the trolls in the game the following mechanics would be enabled:
PvPers:
Trying to hit or disrupt a Ghost for too long would result in being force Tped back to the starting point. This would happen after several times, as PvP would likely cause a few accidental collisions. This would disrupt a PvPers ability to remain in mobs and raids.

Ghosts:
Trying to get in the way of PvP would force TP a Ghost to the starting point. This would be for EACH TIME it happened, forcing the Ghost to look at a loading screen instead of actually doing anything.

Each case would require at least 5 seconds of contact, and I could imagine the load screens to be longer than the usual, in order to “punish” the people trolling this way.

Enabling this as a feature of WvW would allow BOTH aspects of those areas to be worked on without really disrupting either. People who wanted achievements only, or who were after their hard fought Map Completions (they did explore the rest of the world!) could pursue these things without getting caught up in PvP, while this mode would actually add another aspect to PvP… spectating. People could come into WvW just to watch fights and cheer (silently!) for their friends or guild (I would let gestures like /cheer work so they could do it, but they still couldn’t make sounds or harass the other side, so no taunts).

This would also allow people to invite their friends or guildmates into the WvW zones to see how things played out and teach them a bit about the maps and fights before those players decided if they wanted to give WvW a try, sort of easing people into things.

I feel this would solve the problem with WvW being intended for PvP mainly, but having so many other, non-PvP aspects tied into it, without ruining the PvP itself. Let me know what you think; comments are welcome, disagreements are expected… trolling is hoped to be avoided, but also expected.

The fact that the majority of you have STILL not figured out that this is a parody post, despite the OP clearly pasting the original post, makes me question the intelligence of the player population here.

Actually, the thing is that Esplen, trying to be funny, touched on a rather serious concept for a lot of the community, joking or not. People hate not being able to go into WvW and not be forced to run from gangs of bored PvPers looking for an easy mark (if they even get the chance to run).

Personally, my level of upset when I found out I pretty much HAD to PvP in order to get map completion was really high, as I had explored all of the rest of the game mostly alone, hoping to get map completion on my login page and wanting to have everything open for guild bounties and such. I got so close…

If there is a solution for the WvW issue, I would say this: bring back the concept of instanced areas. There is no way someone from one server is going to go into a WvW map controlled by another server nearly completely and do anything but die. This means all the strongholds and important points are basically off limits… you can’t even stand near certain places without getting mobbed. Do the people inside think one player is gonna raid a fort by themselves and win? xD

WvW is a place where people should, in whatever way, be allowed to explore as freely as they can in the regular map, while not being allowed to suddenly drop into a combat going on and disrupt things for the PvP crowd.

You don’t understand.

Correction, I don’t care about your problem with getting an achievement in WvW.

Frankly, I’m also tired of you PvE players self entitlement posts.

Keep making these things and I’ll support open world forced PvP.

So. Two questions.

First, if you don’t care (I found myself having to keep deleting curses here, just sayin’) about his problem, then why are you posting here? No one is forcing you to read this post, or even to (…deleting curses again…) look in the thread. If you don’t care, move along, yes?

Second, why should he care if you support open world forced PvP or not? It’s not up to YOU if anything gets changed in this game or not, anymore than it is up to HIM. And doing something like that out of spite says a whole lot about the kind of person you are to get so upset over it all. Relax. Go play your PvP and enjoy yourself. Some people can’t do that.

Actually, I can agree with the idea of dyes being a sign of individual character progression.

…IF the characters actually found more rare and interesting colors as they progressed. But that doesn’t seem to be the case, does it? My level 80 has gotten more duplicates of colors than I care to mention, even from buying them in the shops. If the concept is “dyes being a sign of character progression”, shouldn’t there be some sort of algorithm in place to reduce the chances of getting the same color again and again combined with increasing the chance per level of finding rare or higher level dyes? …Doesn’t feel like there is.

My character is max level, and I don’t even HAVE any of the really rare colors! When do I “progress” enough to find better ones? After I’ve completed every achievement, defeated every boss and dungeon and cleared every new patch of content?

@ Esplen.3940:

Kinda goes against the concept of “this game supports all play styles” then, doesn’t it?

Telling me I have to “suck it up” isn’t exactly “supporting my play style”. It’s telling me I HAVE to play in some manner AGAINST my play style, or tough luck.

In order for this game to live up to it’s promise of “supporting all game styles” it needs to make it so all things are accessible… not necessarily EASILY accessible, but accessible… to all style of play.

To put it even more clearly, if I don’t want to or like to PvP, I don’t have to, and should be able to get almost anything someone who does like and want to PvP can get. I say almost because there are some rewards I would think would be specifically attributed to PvP that a non PvP player shouldn’t expect to get.

But that should be all.

WvW is not PvE

@ Olba.5376:

The OP has a point. WvW isn’t PvE, plain and simple. It is, in my opinion, forced PvP. I know, how can they force a PvE player to do PvP? Two words.

Map Completion. You can’t complete the map uless you explore not just one WvW map completely… but ALL THREE. Combine it with daily and monthly achievements, and the game pretty much makes you do PvP in order to get the best things.

I’m all for the idea of being made to work for what I want, but if I don’t want to PvP, then I really shouldn’t have to. If that aspect of the game had been put forward from the beginning… that in order to play the game I would have to PvP… then I might have been considerably less interested in buying this game, and I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who feels this way.

2. the idiots and the the idiots and the idiots and dumb people
3. people that always cry and talk about the “broken gw2” but they don´t argue, they just kitten around, talking bullkitten, destroying the community

How is talking about the things we want to see changed “crying”?

If you agree with the person in front of you, who said, “people” is the number one problem in this game, that means you don’t like people. Why would you buy a game involving people to play if you don’t like people?

The idea of this particular thread is to talk about the things you don’t like about the game itself. If you don’t like that this game involves people, then I can only guess you’re playing the wrong game. You should try something that’s less online and played by only you. I’m sure you’d be much happier.

1. Obsidian Sanctum, and jumping puzzles in general.

This is a recent one for me. Actually, it’s TODAY, that I’ve come up with it. This puzzle, and a lot of others, is insane. It’s uncalled for that it be this hard to navigate. And then they put you in the dark, with PvPers running around killing anyone they can find, as if it’s not bad enough already. Programmers, designers… there is a difference between “frustrating” and “challenging”.

2. PvP being a part of EVERYTHING.

Yes, they call it “WvW” or whatever, but it’s still “having to deal with some other payer trying to kill you while you play the game” and it’s a pain in the butt. Why can’t I get my map completion without having to figure out how to get into a fortress on a WvW map controlled by some other server (which is impossible, btw) and explore it? Is there some trick I can use to sneak in and pretend to be on their side? …That would actually be cool if you could infiltrate or something without starting a fight, just to get the points. Nothing like that has come out though. Let me have some things and some achievement without my having to fight some other player for it. I explored the entire world map by myself basically, and I can’t get the achievement for it because I don’t want to PvP.

3. Seems to be leaning more and more towards “power gamers”.

By power gamers I mean people of exceptional skill, or people with high end gaming systems who can handle situations without any difficulty. I’m not for making the entire game easier… it’s actually very easy for the most part. But it scales up to a point where only a very few people even have a chance of completing an event or something. For example, there is an achievement for finding all of the Aetherblade caches. …Why is one of them at the very end of Goemm’s Lab, and extremely hard jumping puzzle? The only way someone can complete that achievement now is to complete Goemm’s Lab, basically, which for me, is impossible. Other links to events involve PvP, which I just mentioned seems designed to annoy people who don’t like PvP.

I appreciate a challenge, but... seriously.

My suggestions are these.

First. Correct the lighting effects and range in this game to allow for better sighting and use of light. Torches are weapons in the game… but they’re also supposed to be sources of light. A character should hold them as such, as if using them to see where they’re going as much as to bash some potential foe with it.

Second. Please consider and discuss with game designers, dungeon and puzzle makers the concept of “fun”. There is a distinct difference between “challenging” and “frustrating”, and after running Obsidian Sanctum, I am officially too stressed to play the game. And I’ve noticed I’m not the only one who feels this way, nor is this the only puzzle I’ve ended up wondering what kind of sadist designed it, and how unfulfilling their life must be to want to torture people paying their bills, no matter how indirectly.

Obsidian Sanctum. I had never done Obsidian Sanctum before, and though I heard it was hard, I also heard it was fun. I don’t know why someone would lie to me like that. At first, I was having trouble adjusting to all the hairpin turns where you’re hanging on by the pixels of your character’s toes, the long jumps that are made more by odd platform coding that lets you stand in midair sometimes, and repeated falls to your death, or taking heavy damage, but after a little while it was fun; I was learning the jumps and they became easier with repetition. This lasted for all of two minutes.

After falling… and falling… and getting further and falling… and being really careful and falling… and getting attacked while trying to climb the platforms and falling… I made it to a new area. Anyone who’s done it knows the one. The Dark Room. The Dark Room is all that came before… in the dark. Long, barely reachable jumps become long, barely reachable BLIND jumps. There are traps, and the path is convoluted to say the least. And people are attacking you at the same time.

“But they give you torches! Why are you complaining?! GOD!” you might say. Well, I stood there for a bit, holding my “torches”. Even in D&D a torch will give you 20 feet radius of light and let you see indistinctly out to 40 feet. Holding my two torches and looking at the screen, I could see… nowhere. It was dark right at my character’s feet. Literally RIGHT THERE. No radius of light.

Throwing torches would give more light, but only barely, and due to inaccurate collision with walls and pillars, sometimes the light would be muted as it would be getting produced from BEHIND a wall you hit, or INSIDE a pillar. Having perfect aim didn’t guarantee good light as the torches just went into whatever you hit and then winked out before you could really see what was in front of you.

And then there’s the people looking to troll. They run up on you and even though the majority of people are just trying out the puzzle, they’re trying to kill you while you do it. Why is this even a factor in such a hard situation? Why would I be forced to deal with PvP on a platform less than 5 inches wide when I can’t see 2 inches in front of my feet?

GW2 expansion confirmed. Hopes and dreams?

More playable races.

Skritt, Quaggan, Kodan, Hylek, Largos, Tengu.

Cities and environments fitting each group.

At least Skritt and Hylek have places that could be used already for this purpose, and Tengu and Largoss have huge, unrevealed areas to build into.

Mounts.

I know this kind of thing is against the whole Guild Wars concept for some reason, but I think it would be nice to have a horse or some kind of traveling contraption to get around with. It could be a sort of playable character in and of itself, able to be leveled up and to attack, or use special abilities to outrun/evade monsters or reach hard to access areas.

TWO HANDED AXES.

Seriously, developers, what happened?

More Asuran weapons for Engineers.

More weapons in GENERAL for Engineers. I know they have their kits they can use… but why not a hammer? You would think that in a game where everything can be fixed by whacking it with a mallet, Engineers would be the best at it! Also, some of the “experimental” weapons in the game make me drool, like the “frost flamethrower” thing you can get near the Golem world boss, or the elemental gun you can get near Teq the Sunless.

New Worlds.

They have already given the basis for an idea of a world either overun with or made up of Machine versions of this world’s creatures. A portal should be created/found that allows people to enter said world and explore it.

Also, the idea hakitten me of a portal added into Cursed Shores that allows a player to travel back in time to Ancient Orr… BEFORE anything happened, and explore there as well. Perhaps either simply to see what everything was like before the continent sank, learn more of the histories of Orr and it’s people, and perhaps to gain some insight into a new skill, weapon or suchlike, or to engage in combat with the Charr invasion, trying to save Orr yourself… right up until the casting of the spell that sunk the place. It would be sort of a long history of the doomed country letting people truly experience the overall horror of what was lost all that time ago by seeing it firsthand.

Combine this with how hard I was trying for 100% map completion and how I now have to fight through people who can completely dominate me without trying and it’s an extremely frustrating thing.
