Economy Not Meant for the Casual Gamer?

If your group is good, you can finish a fractal in an hour (slightly more if you’re doing the Jade Maw one too).

I really hate to bring this up again, but you can actually make money off of just playing the TP. Things required are some capital (more = better ROI) and DIY research on various “markets” aka the item being sold on the TP itself.

unknown rare dye drop common dye

Duplicated.4715

lol OP are you high?

There is no fix to the chance of getting different tiers of dyes afaik. Since unknown dyes allow you to get ANY tier of dyes (ranging from common to rare – yep, pretty much any dye exist in the game), do some quick probability and you will realize how tiny the chance of getting a rare dye is, not to mention PROFITABLE ones.

If you want to profit from dye, I suggest you quit this game. RNG has never been on most player’s side in this game, as you have already experienced.

Legendaries unreachable, regardless of effort

in Black Lion Trading Co

Duplicated.4715

>OP

You say you don’t want “easy mode”, yet in the same breath, you ask that they adjust it to make it easier for you to get. It sounds like you feel entitled to a Legendary. Am I wrong?

The prices on the market have gone up with the increased demand for T6 items. As I mentioned in another post, as more people max levels and acquire wealth (be it through farming or just playing the game normally), they now have the resources to purchase T6 mats from the TP. With Anet banning the farming bots, thus reducing the overall availability of mats to purchase, people are now charging/asking for higher prices. And you know what? People are PAYING these prices. So as long as people are WILLING to dish out the money, the market will reflect it game wide. I’m sorry if this affects you in a negative way, but that’s how markets work.

Now back to your “need” to get a Legendary (I say “need” because it sounds like you really want one). Pretty much everyone is able to get one, as playing the game normally will provide you the mats you need. Casual players will just take longer to get, but you CAN get them. As Anet stated, Legendary weapons are a journey, or perhaps saying over a long period of time. Just because you can’t get yours within a few months of the game doesn’t mean you can’t a year from now. Look at Bartho, he got his playing normally. Sure he may play a lot more than you, but all he did was play. If the mats don’t drop, you can choose to purchase them from the TP using money you got “from playing the game”. Note – Legendaries are not dependent on the TP, so your statement is incorrect there.

The only thing that one could complain about would be Precursors and Clovers. Anet already adjusted the drop rate of Precursors (while minor, I’ll take what I can get) from enemies or from the Forge. Clovers are the only thing that require pure luck, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Heck, I’m stuck at 61 after running through a stack of Shards and Ectos. But I’m not gonna complain to Anet to turn on easy mode, I’m gonna keep on trying until I get them.

Now to help you out, I’m gonna give you some quick tips on how you can help yourself on your Legendary journey.

Tip #1) Mine Mithril nodes and Elder Woods. Whenever you see one, go after it.

Tip #2) Craft your own Rares (Weapons and/or Armors)
Tip #2.1) Farm high level areas for T5 mats, or for coin to purchase them
Tip #2.2) Certain T5 mats for Rare crafting are cheap on the TP

Tip #3) Salvage crafted Rares for Ecto
Tip #3.1) Sell crafted Rares for coin, to then purchase Ectos on the TP

Tip #4) Use Rare weapons in the Forge to go for a Precursor

You forgot another step before Tip #4: Pray to whatever that is holy to you that RNG is in your favor.

Hypothetical Question

Duplicated.4715

I’d be really curious as to the exact process by which gems come into existence. My guess would be that they come into existence when people buy them with real money, then cease to exist when someone cashes them in to the gems store. But I get the impression this really isn’t how it works.

Your guess is as good as mine, and I think it’s safe to assume that that is how it works.

Instead of having to keep track of gems being exchanged into/out of BLTC, they could have an algorithm that checks if x amount of gems are bought, then that will up the exchange rate by y amount, and vice versa.

Hypothetical Question

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Duplicated.4715

Duplicated.4715

I’m surprised that no one mentioned that gems are of unlimited supply: whenever you throw your money (gold,dollar/euro) into the exchange, new gems are created out of thin air for you.

If OP was actually to pull this out, it will probably affect other markets too, because those rares are tied to ecto. However, unless you have ~$100k to burn, I doubt you could ever pull this (and, as others have already said, not to mention Anet’s interference).

Keys are not worth 80 cents, nor 5 gold.

Duplicated.4715

@ Duplicated and that would be a problem because? What then you might not have a large stack of unopened chests which you need to buy keys for off the in game store sitting in your bank?

There is a simple answer. Money. Anet makes a ton of money off of black lion chests by requiring you to either purchase the keys or do some personal storyline to acquire them. It’s the whole reason they are in the game in the first place. Keys are probably their biggest money maker other than people buying gems to convert to gold. Not a horrible idea, but not a realistic one either. I would be all for an easier, cheaper method of opening those kitten things.

@skotie: this guy just nailed it (was playing the game and didn’t bother to check the forum). It is Anet’s primary way of making money, probably more so than skins/transmut stones/etc.
The one reason it might not be as successful as they think (the “buy keys and get your shinies” scheme) is because of the horrible RNG associated with these chests which, couple with the price of key being at 125 gems, makes it a rather unappealing item, especially when one considers the fact that it involves real currency.

Question why in god’s name can’t thief’s have a skill to picklocks? If not a useable skill that can be used to also open chests for others at least a skill that allows you to open your own locked boxed. What is the good lore reason that a “Thief” by profession decided that they would learn poisons, backstabbing, camouflage/stealth abilities or tricks as you might call them, common bandit type weapon skills…. O but opening locked boxes that contain treasure? Nah why would they want to do that?

If by that you mean a skill to picklock the BLC, then what’s the point of having keys for sale in the first place? Leveling is such a joke in this game that it takes almost zero effort (with relatively small amount of money, you can level from 1 to 80 without leaving the town, not even once). Everyone would just make their own thieves and start burning through all of those couple hundred thousands BLCs sitting in the TP.

Sounds more to me like smart kitten players trying to con Anet.

The 5 keys for 450 gems is, in itself, a deal already, since that means each key is worth 90 gems now according to this package.

25 keys for 1560 gems (the exact number is 1562.5 btw) is another deal that is calculated off of the base value of the key (125 gems each). Exact same deal as the one above (discount based on the base value of the item).

Smart marketing? Yeah. Players are smarter? lol I fail to see how. As others has mentioned above, no companies in their right mind would do a discount on an already discounted item. I will never run into such a deal, because just about everyone would have buy them all out as soon as they noticed it.

The precursors are one of the materials. So imo, they should be about as difficult to acquire as the gifts, which also require a lot of input. I don’t think is should be a ridiculous amount like 300g of course, but they shouldn’t be worthless either. Something like 50g worth, or a different method to acquire them that takes a good amount of time and/or effort just like the other components.

I wouldn’t mind even if it costs like 100g to get a legendary, but 300-400g? That’s way out of reach of probably 99% of playerbase.

Well, this doesn’t hold true anymore after yesterday’s event lol.

Exploring for the first time is always the best experience. Being in a zerg group made this happen. Being 50 and scaled up to 80, I found I still didn’t have the stats to be really sufficient. Had fun for the time running the events until the group dissipated.

Similar feeling with AC, being 50 using 35-40 gear and scaled down to 35 in comparison to a 80 scaled down to 35. They tip-toed through the tulips.

Except you don’t really tip-toeing through the tulips in the Cove even if you’re a level 80 with full toughness/vitality gears :P

well I disagree. These jumping puzzles do nothing for me, and the time the devs spend doing them could have been spent doing something else.

jumping puzzles, as you said, are not necessary. So it only bothers me to the extent that resources were diverted to develop something that I don’t like. now we can argue about how many people do them or don’t of course… and nobody can win this argument.

In the meantime, I’d like to know when the Wvw (one of the unique features of this game) will get some attention… incentivisation, gear progression, new maps, new objectvies etc…

See this is the difference between you and me. I don’t care about WvW but I consider stuff like jumping puzzles, pipe organs and stuff like that as integral part of the PvE experience. They appeal to my explorer playstyle.

I’d be more happy if they moved resources from PvP and WvW to to developing PvE content like this which, as far as I have experienced, is also unique to this game. Without stuff like jumping puzzles I’d have lost the interest a long time ago. They literally keep me playing and I regularly jump through the ones I have already done just for the fun of it.

Also kudos to whoever created Fractals. I haven’t been through all of them yet but so far they are tons of more fun than regular dungeons (except the swamp but that’s just me).

That being said. Different teams and all that… maybe WvW would be more interesting if it had more elements like the ones appearing in Fractals and jumping puzzles.

Someone already said this in another swamp complaining post, but let me reiterate it for you: get a mesmer with portal, reset the wisps until they all spawn on the top part of the map, have your mesmer open a portal at the turn in location and run north toward you guys. Once he’s there grab wisps and run toward him while he opens the entrance portal. Everyone jumps in, gg.

Took my team fifteen minutes just to get the coordination in sync plus resetting those wisps so that they spawn really close to one another.

Ok, here’s my hopefully objective view on the Cove.

You can solo, but it’s really REALLY hard unless you can CC and/or stack toughness+vitality. My guardian could solo the normal (non-vet) mobs there with my mostly Berserker set, although I need to be very proactive at timing my dodge and skills which, in a sense, is fun in a challenging way. On the other hand, if you go in a party, it will be one heck of a fun ride. However, even in a party, you CAN and WILL get wiped if you attract more than three vets (which I find it really stupid… it’s a world map, not a dungeon, yet bronze vets here seem more like silver vets in dungeons. And did I mention that they have two lives?).

One bad design though: those young karka’s water gun thing, where they shoot water bullets at you in successive shots, it’s nigh impossible to simply dodge them all. The range is huge, and those bullets hit like trucks. I had to dodge twice just to avoid about 80% of the damage, and by the time they started shooting them again, my endurance bar had yet to fill back up enough for me to do the double dodge again.

If you have played up to level 80 and are not used to roll around a lot or utilize all of your skills, better start learning the how-to now. If you expect GW2 to be yet another “right click hit-hit-hit” laidback sort of game, I suggest you go find another game.

Why didn't precursors drop in price?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Duplicated.4715

Duplicated.4715

ok, so here’s the deal:
even if they DOUBLED the chance of getting a precursor, which i don’t assume honestly, the prices of rares have DOUBLED as well as exotics, the price of the precursors would be of course the same!
so in other words: if they didn’t increase the chance for more than 100%-150% percent you would barley see any price changes at all, the chance would be still minimal and the money you put in much.

:-)

lol, 150% of 0.000000001% becomes 0.0000000015%

Depending on the actual percentage (which Anet will never tell us), the increase in chance may or may not make any impact on the price at all.

no, your a joke.

Just because you and your team dont understand what to do doesnt mean anything. Its a new dungeon and new content and no one have done it before. its obvious that you have to figure out what to do.

for the march you have such problems with the point is to put the far away wasps into the three trees. However, if you dont coordinate they will reset as all have the same timer from when the first is picked up. the roads my block but you can easily jump over it. Let me point out that its possible to do from any distance. you just need to know where to jump over the blocked paths and avoid traps. the 2 is dont carry wasps need to help the other 3.

the fractal dungeon have no waypoint because the only way to resurrect is to have someone heal you on your team or the whole team dies. When the whole team dies you go back to checkpoint just like in any personal story.

How about you tell me why the timer resets halfway through then? As in, my team was carrying it to tree stump. We have like 16 seconds left on the timer, I almost made it to the tree stump when all of a sudden the timer is gone, wisps are gone, and we have to redo the whole thing again.

My group gave up after four tries with the same kitten happened over and over again, not to mention a guy’s game client crashed and he couldn’t get back into our instance, after we have completed two fractals.

I think that it won’t make a difference. Most players are already wearing MF in dungeons and you haven’t noticed.

If you’re concerned about what the players in your PUG are wearing, ask them to link their gear. It’s unlikely that people will bother to transmute MF gear and make it identical to their real gear.

In some harder dungeons, there is a huge difference between running MF gears and running specific, non-glass cannon, gears.

This. The fact that you can stack confusion on people while you can invis away with a clone + summon a backstab clone to help kill the target makes a world of difference (well, not really in the wvw environment, but in pve it’s really invaluable).

Only lvl 15, and I’ve never been downed so much on a character. This isn’t an easy class like Ranger. I gotta dodge and weapon swap a lot…and often dodge into more mobs and have to run!

But I gotta say…I love it! The challenge is fun and I’ve come to love my Phantasmal Rogue…no matter how many times I’m downed, I rarely die.

I don’t recall having to swap weapons around a lot at all unless I want to kill the target faster (GS stacking clones, then swap to staff to apply more conditions).
I can use all of my GS skills and rarely have to dodge lol, while being able to keep three clones up and shatter them to end the fight.

I wouldn’t have bought the game AT ALL if only I saw the NCsoft logo earlier. It’s right on par with Nexon. I thought Anet was still a single entity.

I thought I would spend $20 dollars earlier, just to support the game. After I spent my in-game gold for five keys and got literally nothing of value out of it, I just said to myself I’m done with this.

One interesting note that I think you should take into account Anet (no, I didn’t make this up, nor did I believed my eyes either): The third successive chest that I opened, the only item I’ve got was a single use bank access, that 35 gem thing. Yep, the ONLY item from a 90 gem key (bought a pack of five), was a single use bank access. No tonics/boosters like the usual. Whoever just kittened with the RNG when Halloween items were being added into BLC’s loot table for live servers, you better go check up on him.

And oh, please don’t tell us that the guy forgot to add in zero(es) after the number again, like what happened during the karma exploit. The release was delayed for so long, and you still managed to royally screw up players with the RNG shenanigan, while leaving us in the dark about the actual probability for items in the chest. I take it that you people don’t value your brand that took you… what, almost ten years to build upon in GW1 as something valuable?

If you people have been taking advice from NCsoft, I suggest you should change your mind. NCsoft’s Korean grindy model doesn’t work well most of the time here in America. Sure, there are some people who are willing to shell out their cash, but they are a tiny fraction of the playerbase. One suggestion if you’re fishing for the precursor: use yellow, not exotic. With yellow, the cost is lower. Sure, you have lower chance of getting the precursor, but they are cheaper, which means you can try more often for the same amount of gold. Plus, there is a chance that your rare might upgrade into an exotic, which will greatly help lower down your overall costs.

Lastly, we don’t really know what’s the exact % number for precursors just yet. Some people have thrown in tens of thousands of weapons hoping for a precursor, and came up with nothing. So, better not to dump all your money into MF just yet.
