I have a suggestion involving Warrior and Sword mainhand weapon.
I know mainhand sword is used a lot in PvP environments due to gap closer and inmobilize + tons of bleeds, but Flurry burst skill lacks in direct damage, where a warrior is more specialized at, and most builds for PvE are pure power builds.
Maybe Flurry skill could be split between PvP and PvE somehow or rework it, so instead of 90% bleed damage and 10% direct damage, it did something in between, or more direct damage oriented.
Remember I’m talking from a PvE perspective, I know that skill is great in PvP atm.
Cheers.
I feel you guys I hope this gets somehow addresses for Rodgort and also Howler, as its basically dust clouds that last 2 steps, only noticeable at night, and also THEY ARE NOT VISIBLE when walking a ramp up -.- I should make a video.
Hi, I own this sword and I must admit that the effects it has already are stunning, although it lack, at least for the player wielding it, the effect of illuminating dark areas around you, just like a torch, can’t really understand whi this sword doesn’t have it while Jormag’s Breath does
Dagger #1 is great DPS?… Oh yeah, look at my face beloved mob.
Dagger is strong, but too much risk, Axe + Life blasts all the way.
Axe 2 can do some amazing things with Fury on, Vulnerability on the enemy + a few might stacks (mostly BiP, but if in party with a Staff guardian…) with a really short cooldown. + LF generation..

Necros are actually very balanced, what we could use are some minor bug fixes and such.
And about signets, well, I use 2 out of 4 in my build.
Undead – Great for my DS centric build and to revive fallen party members, specially in fractals high levels.
Spite – Recent increase in damage for the passive and loving it, I switch it out if I know a hard battle is coming and maybe I need more utility, such as corrosive cloud, or a well, other than that’s its a woopin’ 180 free power.
Some may disagree, I personally find very comfortable running with those signets, and very successful so far. Maybe not so in PvP but my time is 70% PvE. For PvP I run a condition build anyway.
Axe and smart use of death shroud can give you good result and very high “burst” for a necro. Oh, and that’s from 600-900 range as a clothie. Melee? hehehe… nah
+ 22k HP Base
You can run life stealing in most dungeons, except fractals since ranged attacks mostly win there.
It works, using dagger its a high DPS build also, it could be better?
The answer is yes. A-Net, fix healing scaling puh-lease.
Over 1000 hours since CBT, 98% necromancer play, all builds.
So true Nemesis, we could laugh at berserk warriors doing high level fractals, or other dungeons than CoF path 1… for that matter. They die insanely fast in melee, and the moment they have to run away and attack from afar, any other class is superior in terms of DPS.
But in other dungeons, it’s not only DPS what matters.
I have in mind a very cool condition – Zombified.
A zombified character will be damaged by healing spells and skills, also boons.
Regeneration, soothing mist… etc
Anti-bunker measure to the max. Let it stack in duration to a max of 8-10 seconds.
As for the necromancer skill only, call it Undead Surge. Opponent affected is Zombified. All healing the opponent receives during its zombified state (damage, actually) is transferred to the necromancer, effectively healing the necro’s HP (not Life Force).
If removed early, Zombified will damage the cleansed X damage, based on condition damage.
I think it’s freaking awesome, the only thing I wouldnt like is that Zombie sounds very necro-ish, and having a… guardian for example cause it would be ridiculous and not lore-themed…. but meh.
SELF HEALS, SELF KILLS WOO!
I played it with my vampiric build. Dagger/Warhorn. 30/20/20/0/0. All well utilities + golem, and it went very smooth.
Now playing a Full berserk with ascended items Axe/Warhorn. 30/15/0/0/25
Turbo DPS and great survavility through intelligent use of DS, veeeeery smooth run attacking from a range of 600-900 (Life blasting away + pierce + might stacking + vulnerability).
Signet of Undead to help with Life force generation, and the casual OH GOD button in case you gotta revive downed members.
Signet of Spite – love it since they doubled the power increase.
Blood is Power + 10 power, why not?
Elite…. I love the golem, most people hate it but its the most useful most of the time and deals nice damage, with the latest buffs to its HP and Toughness it lives some more time.
What? Fix necros in PvE? We are totally fine.
Useless if you run a power build? Nonsense.
I’ve been playing a full berserk build with axe and streghtening Death Shroud through traits that it’s hilariously powerful. Obviously not as powerful as a warrior or a thief, so what? I attack from a 600-900-1200 range, far away from danger zone. Usually on party with a fellow guardian friend wielding Staff, ooooh the might stacking + BiP.
12k crits Ghastly Claws, 12-15 Vunerability uptime, Piercing and might stacking Life Blasts criting for 5k, also stacking Vulnerability, wich means the party does more damage.
Citadel of Flame pillar goes down in 2 seconds with minions, faster than ANY class.
Oh yeah, and all of this with 22k HP still + Traited DS up to +25% life force pool.
Conditions are fun, yeah, but I got bored of them after leveling, play with your traits a bit and you can do some great stuff. I’ve used a vampiric build with dagger a lot too with well support, and it works great too, just a bit more risky since you are in melee range and healing from vampiric traits are not THAT good, could use some more healing power scaling.
I just fell in love with Axe and DS power crit build, plus if you use DS wisely you can survive almost anything with it in PvE, fractals included. Played Necro since CBT and still rediscovering these builds makes it sooo refreshing, since it plays totally different from other builds.
I think our top of things to actually improve would be :
1. Minions – They should have been created by weapon skills, just like Mesmer phantasms. Since this is not gonna be implemented, just give them all more toughness of effective ways to heal them (healing them with life force anyone?).
2. Vampiric healing power scaling need to go up.
3. Staff Marks should be big like traiting for them BY DEFAULT, since it’s our only 1200 weapon and most of us wield one as secondary even though we don’t play condis, or minion management builds. Just give the trait the 20% reduction and unblockable facts.
I have to say the howling loop can get annoying, if at least there was more variety of howls.
And the footfalls, yeah, they last 1 second and a half, unlike other legendaries that leave a trail you can actually follow, and they are less noticeable, because thye look like you are stepping on puddles of water.
Must admit they are very noticeable in dark areas, since they are white with a bit of “splash” effect, and the fog effect around the character its cool, but could be better.
Hope they add intensity to the aura and footfalls, and maybe getting rid of the howling loop unless it sounds cooler, or simply make it howl 3 times at night, instead of 28372873827837283.
Please ANet, make this happen some day.
I use dagger/WH all the time, with a semi glass canon/support build with wells and life siphoning.
Life siphoning, although not THAT awesome, are a form of damage mitigation which lets me face tank most bosses.
Why Dagger? Autoattack damage alone is awesome, but life force generation is great too for survability, and life siphon all the time im under 90% HP so I’m always at full force, and finally Dark Pact to snare bosses, so they dont move out of my Well barrage.
Chill on blind trait with Well of Darkness adds survability, since slows them down and their attacks, wich means more healing from my attacks.
Now, why warhorn? Because for vampiric traits, it’s the best offhand.
Only some mobs are immune to Daze, and Defiant is easily removed by clever use of DS’s Fear, and Elite Golem’s charge.
- But the best synergy with vampiric builds is Locust Swarm. Once activated, it acts as a passive attack, AOE, stealing life from every mob it hits, crippling them and giving you swiftness so they dont catch you. The damage that locusts deal is not good, but my focus is to attack with dagger 1.
And now, my take on wells and siphoning. As long as you have the minor trait Vampiric, which allows you to siphon health on enemy hit, it makes your Wells siphon health as long as they “hit” someone; not necessarily damage:
Example, well of darkness deals 0 damage, but for every bling it applies, per pulse, it siphons health, only requisite is for it to be affecting a mob.
That’s the difference between vampiric and Vampiric rituals, which allow wells yo heal you PER PULSE, even if they don’t hit ANY mob. Which essentialy makes Wells like Well of Blood an OP healing, auto self heal + heal per tick + heal per tick trait Vampiric rituals.
Although I dont use Vampiric rituals, because most of the time I’m in melee range so my wells are hitting the enemy, siphoning health, and my autoattack + locust swarm + 28k HP, and Death Shroud, 99% last man standing if things go wrong.
Although I must admit that siphoning could use some reworking or better healing power scaling, but nevertheless, I encourage fellow necros to try out the mentioned combination because you can hit like a truck while removing boons, giving blinds and chills, or adding vulnerability from wells, thus, supporting your party (Warriors will love you with Well of Suffering + Well of Blood).
:)
EDIT: At the end of the day, most people will say WH its only useful for running. Just wanted to give some heads up and let people know that it has it’s own strengths and utilities, and it’s true that Banshee’s Wail could reduce the skills CD’s like 20-30%, but maybe that can be OP in a PvP environment since it increases the skills effects also, and since Devs are so focused on balancing the PvE aspect in the game based on the PvP aspect…

I agree that minions and deathshroud should have been better implemented, even weapon attacks that spawn minions, just like mesmers spawn clones/phantasms.
Other than that, I’m of the rare breed of necros, I love playing life siphoning, although they could improve the scaling and all, still gives pretty good survavility on top of being fun (for myself). Playing a semi glass cannon, aswell as supporting your team with Wells (that could use some CD reduction…) it’s pretty fun, and sometimes challenging, tanking lots of stuff and most of the time lst man standing and over 80% HP – for a clothie.
DS could be WAAAAAAY better but we must agree that intelligent use of it can be a good life saver, that plus the tons of health we have..
Lets see if they start fixing the mess about Boon spamming and such so we can shine even more, because condition cleasing in this game is so hilarious that it makes conditions sometimes not even worth the toruble
OP@ IMO I think the dagger fits the necro theme as a weapon very well, maybe not exactly like a vampire though (It could be thought as a fang of sorts), but daggers or knives were often used as sacrificial weapons in shady rituals of all sorts back when necromancy was experimented, or any kind of ritual where sacrifices were made.

Guess I’m in the vast minority of people who think Howler looks neat on necro, as well in the minority of necros using warhorn altogether…
And then we have Kraitkin… but yeah.. underwater XD Could be the coolest staff ever though!
Other than that, we could use some more clothes options, I personally run a mix of Honor of the waves and Cultural T3 from humans. But most necros I see are all running the Arah set or Citadel.
I post a pic of my necro here, I personally think its a great legendary for necro, or the exotics eye of rodgort like suggested above.
Finished my Howler just yesterday, pretty awesome, the howling, the wolf and its lit green eyes with the moon effect at night and the mist surrounding you fit perfectly a shady necro
7/10 Caesar Solo.
Kind of original, reminds me of Star Wars though ^^
Male Necromancer: Doom Gaze
heres the rest of my medium armor

Hey guys, can anyone tell me what’s the name of the head armor of this picture? Is it Tier 3 Female human or something else? Thanks!
I’ve got full T3 light armor on my male necromancer, wearing white, abyss and gold (sorry to break the trend of full black + skulls necro… too cliche) and I think it looks neat, I should upload a pic when I get home.
On the other hand I must admit that all T3 human armors are awesome, and T2 heavy.

I don’t know what kind of build you have, but I’m a full conditionmancer, and Im sure the steady ticks of bleeds over time us necros can achieve translate as a big aggro factor.
In big events like opnening the gates of Arah, against the High Wizard, if you can keep up around 15 bleeds or so, even if all the strongest warriors in Tyria are bangin’ on him, he will come after me after a few seconds of melting him down with bleeds.
That + I’m specced for armor and with high base HP + ranged. I guess it’s a sum of factors.
Yeah, let’s hope they add effects on this one too… I’m almost done with the crafting…
Someone suggested that exact condition some time ago “Necrosis”.
The way you put it, sounds awesome. +1
BUT FIRST, fix current bugs please.
I already have a job where I have to work.
I play to have fun, not to work.
A game has to be entertaining and FUN, not a CHORE.
If it’s FUN it won’t feel like a CHORE or WORK, and we can get hooked way more that way.
It’s funny when those who dislike the recent changes to the game are called out and branded as “whiners”, by others who conveniently forgot that all of us are customers, and the product we bought is subject to be criticized by us, it doesn’t need to be P2P for that.
I have never played WoW, and I’m lately kind of thinking I did good, and played different other titles, such as Rift, gear treadmill to the max, Tera Online, where you need to buy gear to do dungeons where that exact gear is dropped (absurd), elitist communities, gear checks, hell!, even item level everyone can see! – Do we what GW2 to be like that, seriously?
The ones calling others whiners are those who don’t have any sense of anticipation, Ascended gear is just a tier – Yes. Just the first of more to come. Why?
If you never played WoW like me and the first days of GW2 you tried to convince friends to join you, who played WoW, and asked you about the game, what where their reaction to “horizontal progression”?
“Blasphemy! That’s not possible! You need a Damage Dealer, a Tank and a Healer! That game cannot success! Every piece of armor at max level is balanced? Nonsense! I want to be stronger than others because I PLAYED MORE THAN THEM, THEREFORE, I WANT TO 1HITKO ANYONE IN PVP!”
- Those are just to name a few, examples of what some of WoW/Rift/Tera players said after inviting them to join the GW2 cause. The same player who would gladly join now, because what they demanded and wasn’t implemented, is coming to them.
This game was a game changer because in my eyes, it felt like a “Third Person Shooter” game. Let me explain, everyone can play Counter Strike, and everyone is equal, to the sense that all of us can get any weapon, which have different playstyles, but same “stats” across all players. PvP is kept the same, but WvW might change drastically with incoming Tiers of gear.
This game obviously needed better and cooler skins added over time, not stats, that’s a different league.
1st issue: Minions don’t scale-up with your stats, but instead with your level.
This is totally ridiculous, because something like this happens: The other day at Caudecus’ Manor, Explorable mode, you are scaled down to lvl 40/45 I think, yet, the mobs inside can literally 1 hit-kill ALL of my minions, just summon your beloved flesh golem, and the instant it pops out it dies by a random enemy AoE, and eat the full cooldown… seriously?
2nd issue: Said countless times already, minion AI is detrimental, the only minion that works properly most of the time is the Flesh Wurm, which does pretty good damage actually and survives a lot…, we actually need HP regeneration for outside of combat for all, not just Golem.
3rd issue: Minion cooldown reduction by 20% not affecting their respective minion skills, and also some of those skills are at most situational (Flesh Wurm’s teleport, I’d rather be able to pick it up just like an engie’s turrets), and the healing minion not scaling with +Healing at all.
My issues were centered around minions because I love playing my Staff Minionmancer pretty much, but I hope they fix the issues adressed above because in key points of the game our reliability is lackluster, and when all minions die in miliseconds after summoning makes me wonder if we have a diversity of minions or if they basically are all Jagged Horrors with different skin-models…
PD: Don’t make basic traits minion-forced also, it limits build choices a lot. And don’t force players to play with Death Shroud to be reliable.
A neat idea would be to feed Life Force to minions so they get buffs, protection, or healing.
Also, Flesh Golem can’t swim…
