I don’t care if there are no fancy animations for it beyond it’s existing appearing and disappearing ones and speed lines for leaning. Just having the carpet would be amazing.

HoT Story - No Asura Lines for Rata Novus?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Encarton.3985

Encarton.3985

I’m really disappointed that there doesn’t seem to be any Asura specific reactions to learning about and finding Rata Novus.

My character just doesn’t seem to care about the discovery of a whole different Rata and all this old Asura tech. He is just completely indifferent to it all like it doesn’t really matter to him or his species beyond what you need from it for the story.

Instead, Taimi is the one who is all interested and excited about it and my Asura compared to her just seems… not very Asuran. Like all the Asura defining personality was sucked away and stuck into her instead. Not even any observations or wonderment…

I understand that as the Pact leader you’ve got some really pressing matters to attend to so your character can’t get sidetracked tinkering, but that doesn’t mean they don’t even have the time to have some commentary on the whole thing!

I also know they probably want to off load the brainy stuff to Taimi since that is what she is there for, to be the Asura in the group when the Commander can be anything. But it really seems to take away from your own character if they are an Asura. They could probably mitigate this with some simple comments that suggest more of a collaboration or understanding & delegation, rather than “OK you do that whatever it is complicated smart stuff while I hit enemies with a hammer”.

I wouldn’t mind if its limited so that you can only see other people in airplane mode if you are in airplane mode yourself either. I just want to see other people zooming around while they’re using it too.

Also, I’d really like for the WvW, PvP, and Dungeon restrictions to be lifted as well…

Yeah there is no official Roleplaying server. Tarnished Coast is the unofficial one as designated by the players.

With Megaservers though you just need to join a good RPing guild and then you can /join into an active RP map instance through one of your guild mates if you aren’t placed on the right instance of a map initially.

Something as simple as this would have been perfectly fine in my eyes.
You have the suggested amounts and you still have the ability to go for a custom amount.

For the gold side, just have it be that you type in how much gold you want and it’ll tell you how many gems it’d take, plus how much ‘bonus’ silver and copper you’d get tacked on because it isn’t a perfect conversion.

And the gem side would be as simple as typing in how many gems you want and seeing how much it’d cost.

Additionally, it doesn’t seem to be my connection at fault. Others in my home aren’t having problems with their internet connectivity, my computer isn’t losing internet connectivity, and my other programs aren’t having problems either.

If the Lab is a fractal who constructed the Asura gate to and from LA? And why do we need the Lab to go from one fractal to another?

The Consortium seem to have something to do with the Asura Gate in Lion’s Arch so they might know something we do not. It could be that they managed to somehow link to Dessa’s lab, perhaps by accident, and then seeing how she can send groups of adventurers throughout Fractals with her machinery they decided to make use of her better understanding + research.

Yeah… I kind of want it to be true but not true at the same time. It wouldn’t necessarily be a bad fate for Dessa (she isn’t reliving her death over and over at least) but it is just kind of saddening. Plus I don’t think there’d really ever be a future event that’d let us free her if this was true due to how Fractals seemingly work for now.

Also, on a semi-unrelated note, I think she knows something about the uncatagorized fractal. Wish we could ask her if she knows the crazy cat golem Asura.

(My theory)
It’s her lover and she got him trapped there reliving those horrible event over and over for eternity. She couldn’t bear to watch what had become of him, and that’s why she was silent throughout the fractal, and could only talk long enough to tell you it’s time to leave. (Just my little conspiracy theory for the day. None of that is confirmed)
Ooo interesting. I kind of like that idea.

in Fractured

Encarton.3985

I actually had the same idea in my head. But now that i thinking more about it there are some deeper implications if this is true.
This leads to two possible scenarios: a sad one and weird one.

Sad:
If all Fractals are simply figments of past events that means Dessa is one, too. That means that there was a Dessa who opened camp in this mistlock observatory but not anymore.
The observatory was destroyed and Dessa is dead and they became just an other fractal.

Weird:
Dessa came there just like us and created that observatory. But somehow the observetory became a Fractal itself. Dessa (and her crew) was LITERALLY TURNED INTO HISTORY.

Confusing:
Dessa is maybe still alive at her lab in the present at an unknown location, however having found her lab in the past (Fractalized) we just keep visiting that instead of searching for what happened to her lab.

That actually could be an OK resolution to ‘saving’ Dessa. Except that she seems to be from pretty far back in the past when we visit her lab so… I don’t know.

Any of those ideas would be neat. But still tragic in their own ways.

I hope that we eventually find out what happened to her lab as it exists in the present. It’d be kind of spooky finding her old abandoned lab all broken down and abandoned while still being able to then go into the FotM and see her alive there.

I shall always dislike it when the main villain appears before the main characters and absolutely no action is taken to do anything to the villain.
If the villain is standing somewhere out of reach, then that is acceptable.

Although because this is a fractal, punching her probably wouldn’t have done anything to the real Scarlet, it still would have been cathartic to some people and our characters probably have a pretty big grudge against her by now.

Dont know if it’s a bug or not but when you complete the story, back at Dessa’s Lab, the map of Thaumanova Reactor is “under” the lab itself, as if it was part of it. I entered the fractals again to get a screenshot of it, but now its like the old map again.

I didn’t notice that myself, but one of the people in my party did say “I didn’t know her lab was above the reactor.”

I’ll have to keep an eye out for that if I can rerun the story instance.

Oh good I still have some of what she says in the chat log.

After you complete the Fractal the following dialog happens
Dessa: I knew the reactor was dangerous-doubly so with the Inquest involved-but I wasn't ready to watch my friends die.
Dessa: Greeza and Chibb weren't paragons of perfection, but they were good technicians. They deserved better than this.
Dessa: Being trapped in the moments leading to their own deaths? Repeating it with every new Fractal insertion? Horrific.
Dessa: Watching them die was bad enough. I can only imagine how it must feel. I sincerely hope I never find out.
Captain Ellen Kiel: Welcome back. I'm sorry that was so crazy, but you handled it better than I could have.
Captain Ellen Kiel: Chaos energy or dragon energy - either way, Scarlet and the Inquest took this facility too far too fast.
Captain Ellen Kiel: I don't understand sacrificing every worker here and endagering the entire surrounding area. Then again, I'm not evil or crazy.
Captain Ellen Kiel: At least we've got some good info to take back to the people of Lion's Arch. And that's not the only thing we're taking back.
Captain Ellen Kiel: Dessa, you're coming with me. I've got a lot more questions that need answers.
Dessa: I don't- I can't-
Captain Ellen Kiel: You're not under arrest, but I can't leave this machinery in Consortium hands. Now do us all a favor and come quietly.
*Dessa attempts to leave through the Asura Gate and things get fuzzy and she warps back to her usual standing spot*
Captain Ellen Kiel: Nice try, Dessa. I don't know what kind of mecha-magical gizmo you're using, but you can't get away from us that easily.
Dessa: I'm sorry, have we met? Welcome to the Mistlock Observatory. So, are you interested in exploring the Fractals?
Captain Ellen Kiel: You really don't recognize me, do you? You don't remember sending a team into the Thaumanova Reactor.
Dessa: Thaumanova? I've got friends on that krewe, and from what I understand, it's not a safe place to visit. Or work.
Captain Ellen Kiel: Never mind. This is going to take some time to figure out. I'll be back, Dessa. Be here when I come for you.
Dessa: Not a problem. My life's work is here, and I couldn't leave it even if I wanted to.
Captain Ellen Kiel: I understand. At least, I think I'm starting to. My sincere apologies, citizen. Carry on.

After the reset, some of what Dessa says is a repeat of what she said when you first entered the Fractal, such as the line about the Thaumanova Reactor.

I also noticed in the story that she is also very against leaving her fractal and even comments that she just couldn’t. Plus her comments about her friends trapped dying over and over in the Thermanova Fractal… Perhaps she might have a faint idea of what might have happened to herself. So when she says that she couldn’t leave her lab and her work, she meant that it is not possible for her to leave the lab.

Just had this interesting thought after doing the story mode.

At the end we see Dessa try to leave the fractal and suddenly things go wonky. She seems to reset and loses all memory of having just run a fractal or meeting Ellen.
Additionally, Dessa doesn’t know that the reactor has blown up which might suggest she is either very ill informed or in the past before the reactor explosion.

It would also give a good explanation as to why you are doing the same fractal runs over and over for her. Every time you go visit her you are visiting her for the first time and she has yet to run those fractals from her point of view.

So like how she can’t pull people out of the past or other Fractals, she cannot leave her own Fractal and we keep visiting her space in time as a fresh face each time.

Evidence? —--

  • Dessa doesn’t know what Silvari are
  • Dessa does not know the Fractal gate is in LA
  • Dessa thinks LA is run by pirates still (Ok so it sort of is)
  • Dessa didn’t know the Reactor blew up
  • Dessa ‘resets’ and has complete memory loss of the story mission events at the end when she tries to leave
  • Dessa never recognizes you (no dialog changes)
  • Dessa runs the same fractals over and over in our point of view
  • Dessa comments about not being able to leave (either knows or an unaware comment)

Requesting Giftable Finishers

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Encarton.3985

Encarton.3985

We don’t allow gifting limited account items because of privacy concerns.
(you could find out what anyone had unlocked by testing if they were giftable)

I guess that could potentially be an issue maybe. I assume it would have to do with a potential hackers looking at accounts to determine their value?

Perhaps you could use the decline a gift idea then. That way the person gifting the item can’t know what the person receiving has when they send the gift. It would be up to the person who received the item to decide if they reject it so the sender gets their gems back or if they accept it.

This way, if they declined it the sender wouldn’t know exactly if it was because they already had the unlock or didn’t want it. If they accepted it, the sender would only know that they now have at least just that one unlock. Plus another thing to note would be that the sender wouldn’t be able to tell if a person accepted the gift or just sitting in an idle accounts inbox in limbo.

Thanks for the reply though!

Edit: One last thing that would be important in that system is something to track the gem value of the item when it was purchased. That way if the gift is rejected, they don’t get more or less gems back than what they paid for the item if there are price changes.

Account Upgrades from the Gem Store. I’m not sure what the current limitations might be preventing gifting them, but since most are items that you first have to consume before you unlock them I would think you could make it possible to gift these to other people through the gifting option in the gem store.

The only reason I can think of might be that it would be a waste of gems if you gifted someone a finisher or other account upgrade that they already have.
That would be a problem… but you might be able to avoid it if there was a check on whether or not the account being gifted qualified for it before it was sent (already unlocked/max slots), or perhaps adding a reject gift option to gem store gift messages which deletes the letter and refunds gems to the person who sent the gift?

Either way, I would like to see the capability eventually be added.

However, now I am fine with the addition of the downed enemies. I like to view it as Anet deciding to switch things up a bit and instead of just making all the baddies Veterans or harder (aka throwing more HP onto enemies), they instead decided to add the downed state which is similar but different. Now when you down them, they still have a bit more HP to chew through if you want to just sit back and range/melee them down or you can more quickly just finish them off with a finisher.

I will say though that it is really annoying when a baddie you’ve downed is revived… but it just means you need to be more careful in managing what is going on.

in Living World

Encarton.3985

Overall this is a wonderful thread. Great ideas OP!

Although like some other folks, I’m not entirely too sure of the pacing… that is a lot of work to be done for consistently creating new areas while they also modify old ones. Think of all the artwork, voice acting, zone planning (who? why? where? topology? theme? modeling? POI? tasks? events? level? lore? impact?), and more that would need to go into polishing a new zone so that it blends into the rest of the world while also standing out on its own. It’d be even more tricky for places like the crystal desert where they’d have to create a lot of never before seen models and assets.

Still, it would be amazing if they followed the ideas found in your timeline even if not exactly at your pacing.

One thing that is important, that bears repeating again and again until the devs acknowledge it, is that the content must be replayable, without having to reroll. One of the most annoying things right now, to me, is that if I want to go back and play through the Human Noble storyline again, I have to roll a new character. Or if I want to run “A Vision of Darkness” again as a Sylvari, I have to re-roll and then level until I can do it. I don’t want to do that: I just want to re-run the mission I have already beaten. A new player 2-3 years from now should be able to go back and beat Zhaitan, Kralkatorrik, etc. That was one of the great things about Guild Wars 1; you could go back to old missions and re-live the content, without having to level an alt.

Yes, that would be nice. Perhaps place some sort of ‘reflection chamber’ in a player’s home instance which would give you a list of ‘memories’ and let you replay missions as your character reflects back on them.

The only complication would be that your character shouldn’t be able to replay a mission, choose a different option than they did originally, and play it through since they’d be seeing things they never did. Although, I suppose they could explain around it by having your character ‘fall asleep’ during the reflection and dreaming up the alternative choice and results.
I don’t think I’d mind if they limited us to the missions based off our original choices however.

Phantom's Hood Visual Bug

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

There is a pretty noticeable graphical clipping with the Phantom’s Hood when paired with the Mad King’s Coat. It ruins the intended effect of the Phantom’s Hood by having a piece of orange texture floating behind the eyes and mouth effect.

The visual bug can be seen by other players and is definitely caused by the combination of the Phantom’s Hood + Mad King’s Coat. I haven’t tested it out on any other characters or item combinations.

Infinite Tools Similar Mechanic to Finishers

Yeah, account-wide unlocks would be awesome if used in more situations.

As for affecting their gem purchases, at least for me the chances of me buying more than one infinite use tool of the same type is pretty much non-existent (unless it has a new skin and effect which I find irresistible). I’ll just use the character with the unbreaking tool for the majority of my gathering and let my others hold on to breakable ones.
Being able to pass around the tools to my other characters would just be nice feature.

Heck, it might even promote the purchase of future tools since I would know that I could pass my existing unbreakable tool off to an alt so my main character can use the shiny new one.

Trading Post always breaks if you afk

I haven’t been having this problem myself.
I know the TP does bug out every once in a while, but usually closing the window and waiting a few seconds before trying again seems to fix it.

Although still, it probably shouldn’t be bugging out at all.

Trading Post needs better features.

Ah, I do have one sort of bug though also in relation to the Trading Post.

If I select the search field (as if I was going to type something in it), alt+tab the game out of focus to look at something else, and then refocus the game, then when I try to click the search field again and start trying to type it does not recognize it and will open up windows (such as the Guild window when you hit the G key) and move the character around. In order to get the search field to respond, I have to either close and reopen the trading post or toggle the filter list.

I certainly would like to see the Trading Post be updated to include far better search features as well.

To be specific:

  • You cannot easily filter for items that fill certain slots like back type items
  • You can’t filter by armor type such as light or heavy
  • You can’t easily sort consumables (only all and food subcategories seem to work)
  • You can’t sort Crafting Materials by profession
  • Gizmos could use an improved subcategory list
  • Tool and Gathering categories don’t appear to have any use
  • Trinket category probably could use a tweak separating out types
    And more.

It’d also be nice if they could put in a filter relating to items with stats so you could filter for the stats your looking for. Ex: Checking off a box for Vitality so all items with a Vitality stat are displayed.

Diminishing Returns on Clock Tower?

in Blood and Madness

Yeah, I’m also pretty saddened by the nerf on the Clock Tower loot.

I find the jumping puzzle pretty fun and usually stick around until the round is over if not longer when I complete it for the first time in a day.

It seems like a strange nerf, promoting zerging around the Labyrinth for trick or treat bags (in addition to all the EXP and other rewards you get) rather than doing the Clock Tower.
