qin….did you hide under a rock lately? In the last two days I’ve had arguments with people defending the beserker gear and builds, all based on DPS damage….but(the intelligent ones anyway) also admit you can just as easily spam healing in the same way and be unkillable. superiority and efficiency are not about DPS or time spend in dungeon, its about a win/loss, how much did you grain for your trouble. Some people like to run in.blank and kill ASAP, some like to play more defensively like my duelist style of play. Its not better or worse, it just is. you wanna gamble for that kind of kill as quick as you can, not my time to lose.
and how does a patch fix player issues? I was just talking with guild mates about this obsession with the beserker build dungeon runners tend to have, we all agreed on why it existed, but were baffled why everyone and their brother dives in full force. should a patch fix that to?
Oh look, it’s the guy who finds AC too hard sharing his valuable insight with everyone.

Also, role play must be present in every single dungeon run. Not adhering to this will result in a perma ban with no appeal.
This has probably been posted and discussed to it’s bitter end, but I haven’t read it! I love running dungeons.
Yes it has been posted by you, it has been discussed in your thread, and you have read it.

^ Your thread about a year ago.
This would not be such a hot topic for me if players did not get personally offended by me wanting to actually play the game and kill a few enemies. Is there any solution for this?
Obvious solution – make your own groups, filter people. I bet you already knew that.

For what its worth, when I watch groups like yours on live stream, I think a lot worse than “lol casuals.”
The only recorded runs of MY groups are the SE p1 and p3 record runs on YouTube. I don’t usually livestream because I would drop below 100 FPS. The livestream I know you’re referring to is not applicable and I’ve stated why here
Since you brought up livestreams, there was a particularly funny one from a well-known DnT member on thief with multiple wipes at Lupi.
watch out everyone, this guy goes hard.
So I’ve never actually completed Arah(last attempt failed at Lupicus), but I really want to learn the best methods, and more importantly, I want to learn how to solo Arah p2.
The skipping parts seem annoying, but nothing I can’t do.
The first boss seems pretty easy for the most part with careful positioning.
Lupicus however, I couldn’t even beat with 4 other people.
My problem when fighting Lupicus(after many failed attempts in a group, I told them to let me try soloing for fun) was that his kicks in phase 1 were pretty much instant and they would one-shot me in full zerker gear. I actually managed to get him down to phase 2 by myself, but failed in my rotations and died. Other than that, his near-instant attacks in phase 3 also one-shotted me and the death bubble was pretty difficult to escape without a full endurance bar.My question to the Elementalist community: What gear should I use to solo Arah p2/Lupicus? What can I do against those near-instant attacks? What tells should I watch out for? While we’re at it, can you guys explain the other bosses as well?
I kinda just wanna do this for fun, not really for selling. Maybe I’d invite guild members or friends before the final boss, but overall this is just a personal accomplishment. Any tips?
I’d say watch videos of other elementalists (or any class, for that matter) soloing lupi to get used to the tells. His kick in P1 has a subtle tell, and reviewing footage of his attacks can help with that as well as his other attacks.
The main point of running it solo is to be over when Maggs is done with inspecting the stone for a instaport to your location so definitely no cleanser.
How do all classes cross the Magmacite field solo?
Swiftness.
You’ve ever tried explaining that to a pug who just all port back and expect someone to solo it, because they’ve seen others do it? On ele I tend to run out of Endurance before I’m fully across. It almost makes me reluctant taking my Elementalist in PuGs.
Won’t RtL, Lightning Flash and Mist Form get you 2/3 of the way across?
And you can always drop an FGS and whirl your way to victory
Do you guys do arah p4?

One of the best things about GW2 is how nice people are, generally that is because from time to time you can come about some real jerks and Im not talking abou WvW, where you are allowed to be a mean #$!@ to your opponent, Im talking about this new group that has decided to make a proffit out of something that is free, namely those who sell dungeon runs for the city of Arah.
I know it shouldnt get to me, Im not going to be dumb enough to pay for bottle of water that is even more contaminated than the one coming out of the tap, but there are plenty of people out there falling for this dumb scheme and who, unfortunately, will veer away from those making the run just because its fun, which in turn its leaving a lot of honest to goodness people hanging out to dry.
Its not illegal, that much has been made clear by Arenanet, but its annoying and a clear sign of how many rotten apples there actually are trolling around in this great game.
My advice to people, steer clear of these leeches, create your own -FREE -groups and enjoy the game with people that dont care if you shot that arrow a second too early, or cast the wrong spell, its all about fun.
I know this has probably been said a dozen time, but I needed to get it off my chest.
So I’m a leech because I solo’d an arah path and I want to make profit off of it? Because other people aren’t able to complete the content and they’d rather use the money they got from champ farming/buying gems to get dungeon tokens? Please delete yourself.
The only reason the path selling LFG advertisements seem to be up all the time is because they take longer to fill. Normal runs fill up almost instantly.
Yes! Best patch forever. We will lose 20-25% damage output on full offensive builds, but gain about 25% more healing. It’s all about DPS UPTIME guys, we can now go with full offensive builds and do not even have to dodge ONCE anymore. Totally passive play, just like clerics, but we will deal more damage than before!
Obviously it’s more skillful, and doesn’t trivialize the content at all like berserkers. And it’ll reduce the toxic attitude of the community when it comes to dungeons. Now they just need to make it so dodging something only mitigates 50% of the damage.
CLERICS SHOUT HEALS GO

“On-Kill sigils (those sigils which trigger when you kill something) have received an update as well. The functionality of each sigil has changed so that killing a player is worth five stacks of a sigil in any game mode, while killing a monster only grants one stack. This type of sigil will have more strict rules applied on them, so that a player will no longer be able to gain 25 stacks and then un-equip the sigil.”
GG stacking weapons
Not keeping the stacks + having double sigils on 2H weapons means that some classes could just single stack ?
250 > 3500 × 5%
Going BL instead of force on 2H weapons appears to be a solution.
Yeah, for sure. The only thing Force has over bloodlust is the fact that going down will destroy your bonus (but then again, if you have it on all the time, you’ll get it back rather quickly if the dungeon is full of easy trash mobs).

Also, does anyone know of a good recording software? I recorded this with Fraps, and that sub-5 mins of video was 4 GB. Fraps also makes my FPS drop from 130 to 60, along with occasional lag spikes of less than 10 FPS. The only other recording software I’ve tried is Overwolf, but that drops FPS even further, down to 30 FPS =(
MSI afterburner is pretty sweet for recording. Also, well done on the record. Plenty of places where you can improve the time, so hopefully someone else (or you) takes advantage of that. :P
Good point. In the spirit of low effort innovative problem solving, disabling all attacks except auto attacks is the best solution. Also, attacks are limited to once every 4 seconds, to help with the immersion (after all, swinging a heavy spear underwater is going to be hard).
I think we can all agree that what this dungeon really needed was a clown car full of wolves. That is always a fun and interesting mechanic!
Icebrood dredge?
Excellent. In addition to this, it has to be underwater, so the scummy zerkers can’t just stack and just auto attack it as easily.
Yeah, the traits announced so far seem pretty underwhelming. The good thing is that it’s just a preview and (hopefully) the unannounced traits are a little more useful/build changing.
inb4 switching builds to make trash runs
It’s fresh.
Fractal lvl49. “melee only, experienced”
No gear check. No consumables. Fishy as hell.
Other guardian (host) pull out scepter shield. Oh well, kill Mossman ranged.
Cliffside. Why do you punish me God?!
Same guardian pulls out mace shield, warriors keep camping rifle.
Leave.Inside, i’m crying.
seriously how the hell do these people get that high? I had a similar issue with mossman\cliff\dredge at 36.
on that related note my group in that situation had a war camping GS/LB and a thief that shared venom(you only use this if you’re condi spec) and didn’t know how to use stealth AT ALL let alone combo fields. I didn’t finish that one and I wish I just left on swamp. The content isn’t that hard, especially lvl49 compared to other one above 40, so they can be carried.
Yeah, if they wipe enough times they’ll eventually get it.
I was doing FotM 49 a few evenings ago and I’m not joking when I say this; the thief on my team seriously had no idea that they were capable of stealthing with anything aside from shadow refuge. When I told them to blast with us and SR themself at control panel (we had dredge as third fractal), they didn’t have a clue what I was talking about… and they spoke fluent english.
God, I hate how common this is. Especially among pugs who consider thief their main character.
Pug engineers are rare though, I’ll hazard a guess that it’s because most people don’t really have any idea how to play one effectively in dungeons.
Yeah, you don’t see many engineers in dungeons. If you do, they’re probably spamming pistol auto or using FT.
You know what’d be awesome? Giving the FT an enormous buff, to bring it’s DPS in line with the other classes’ meta builds. Imagine how cool that’d be.
>engineer
>speedrundoes not compute
Lol, you deleted your post. Good thing it still says you’re the thread starter or I’d get my FC doubled again. >_>
Engineer can be good in a pug “speed run”. You can easily stack 25 vuln on trash by yourself, and around 15 on bosses, and give 12 stacks of might to your party with a quick stacking rotation.
Only problem is, their DPS isn’t that good
Archdiviner’s leap? How about his autoattack?
Yeah, his leap is pretty well telegraphed. His auto on the other hand…
If I see him stop in the second fight I back off immediately.
Rendering video, and uploading it after that. Should be done in a hour or two
Mother of god, what have you created?!
I don’t believe this to be true. It seems that skipping most of Arah’s trash mobs is par for the course in any pug.
Pugs successfully doing arah skips? What is this, some kind of bizzaro world?
Especially the P1 skip; I’ve had whole groups rage quit or try clearing the mobs after they couldn’t make the skip, while I waited down by the ooze.
but that’s why we need more Kholers to help players prepare for them.
And now i’m imagining a whole hallway full of kholers. QUICK, PUT UP A WoR AND STAND IN IT EVERYONE.
yeah, it’s hilarious how they’re not addressing the real issues and instead going on about lore and brainstorming new fractal ideas. I guess i’m not really surprised after the kitten anet has been doing the past year.
It really isn’t. If I go into AC with a random pug, and notice that my team can’t pull of the required DPS no matter how hard they try, I no longer blame the skill of the players, and start blaming the encounter.
I’ve done AC enough times to know by now just how much easier spamming Icebows and Fiery Greatswords make the burrows. I think it would be hard for anyone to claim otherwise. That’s because they quickly do a lot of damage, and don’t suffer from being “obstructed”. There’s clearly a balance problem when these two skills make such a huge difference in beating this encounter. No, it really is.
The reason pugs can’t do it is if they’re using condi builds on objects and/or don’t spread themselves out appropriately for the burrows to reach them in time.
It’s quite amusing that you can’t comprehend the idea that you and your pug groups might just lack skill, and you instead blame it on the game.
lol, yeah. You can’t really base the difficulty of a dungeon based on how well pugs do. The vast majority of this player base is really, really bad.
In reality, AC is probably one of the easiest dungeons in the game.
I have a question. I run candied dragon rolls/omnomberry pies/ghosts since I’m poor and struggle to maintain the scholar buff. I am considering dropping 5 out of Arms (Increased damage to bleeding foes) and picking up 5 in Discipline (sharpened axes probs) for the extra crit damage. Is this a good idea? I lose roughly 3% crit chance and gain roughly 5% crit damage.
No, the 10% damage modifier you get from the 25 in Arms is far better than the 5% crit damage you get from an extra 5 points in discipline. There’s a reason this build is the meta build for PVE warriors.
Generally, damage modifiers trump crit damage.
Stop saying longbow is bad dps. It’s not. Traited longbow hits for 992.25/s only factoring skill modifiers and weapon damage and the 5% damage trait. This is only the autoattack, without considering barrage. As a reference sword hits for 1055.55/s. Yes, longbow is just a bit lower auto.
There are other factors that have been mentioned, however. Group buffs affect damage greatly.
Yeah, to achieve comparable DPS to sword you need to be standing pretty far back. Because of that, you won’t get/provide any of the group buffs to your team and the DPS will end up being lower.
Pugs are people stuck at alphard that you join to help. They wipe and you continue to solo it..at around 30% hp two of them suddenly come back to life, spam a bunch of particle effects and trigger the aoe. Repeatedly until you ragequit.
Or the dudes stuck at lupi who get angry at you for not ressing them/resetting when they all die. If you do solo lupi, they’ll kick you after he’s down.
So i see there are all these guides on skill traits and all, but they are all for endgame level 80, while i have no idea and nobody is actually making a step-by-step guide to tell you which traits you should use for PvE while leveling, what would you guys suggest to get while yo uare going trough levels 10-50+, ect?
Go in to fire first, to get the conjurer trait. After that, try to ping as many damage modifiers you can. You’ll be nuking stuff before it can deal any damage to you.
Many people are going to hate me but I can’t wait until they design all movement-attack skills like FGS rush or whirlwind attack to hit foes only once per use.
I am tired of banging mobs against the walls. I want real fights.
Then we will see all those “meta” ele and warriors fail so hard not knowing what to do
That won’t change anything except the speed of kills. Ele will still have top dps. The general gameplay won’t change. People will still pull bosses into walls so the bosses won’t keep walking backwards.
It’d be a start though. Ideally speaking I’d like to have AI improved to prevent corner/wall stacking from being so universally effective.
Fortunately, what you think to be ideal plays no part in deciding balance changes.
Well, I guess not everyone can handle a game that would actually be challenging.
I guess that in the end that’s the only argument you people have left.
If I want a challenge, I solo Arah, do higher level Fractals, run dungeons naked or PvP.
What some people need to get through their skulls is that to some people, myself included, enjoy efficiency and the feeling of a job well-done.
The changes you are proposing won’t add any sort of challenge at all. They’ll just lengthen the runs by a little bit, especially for non-zerkers.If ANET wants to make their game more challenging, they’ll need to make more significant changes and not only tweak some cheesy skills that people will do without.
When/If those changes occur, I’ll simply adapt to them and carry on instead of complaining here, creating endless threads about the same subject, much like mediocre players do.
Yeah, I think that’s what everyone fails to understand. A lot of us don’t run zerker because “zomg damage lel”, we run it because it’s the most efficient way of doing things. If they drastically changed the game mechanics (healing scaling better with healing power) and introduced challenging content that required some other gear type/new strats, I’m sure plenty of us will adapt without whining.
I mean, look at the new alphard. Bad players whined, we just adapted by bringing more reflects and making sure to keep up reflects/making sure we burned him down fast.
Try to get atleast 15 in radiance first, I’d say (and take blind exposure). That way you can spam VoJ for blinds. Also, I’d recommend running sword/focus + GS, tons of blinds on the weapon skills for those. You can easily rotate all of them to avoid getting hit. Learning how to do this will help you out a lot in harder content.
Where would i find Obals Hammer Guardian build you directed him to it but i cant seem to find it anywhere
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/guardian/Guide-DPS-Guardian-for-PVE/first
Anybody ever run one of those ‘meta warriors only’ parties in CM (any path even story ftm) at all? Just curious how it went because it seems like this thread is saying warriors are the best and all you need in a party…even though that’s not what the OP was about.
Or an all warrior level 50 fractal.
top lel
And to address the survivability point: mesmers and guardians are so much easier to survive with. With guardian, if you have atleast 15 points in radiance you can just spam virtue of justice as you kill mobs to get permablinds. You have 2 aegis (1 via VoC, 1 via retreat), a heal that’s also a block, as well as a ton of other blinds via sword/focus and GS, and perma prot via hammer.
With mesmer, you have sword #2, sword #4, distortion, perma vigor, and good hp pool to soak up hits.
And this is all available without affecting your DPS negatively (other than distortion). For warriors to have more defensive options, they have to switch out banners/signets/FGJ to get the same rsult.
So basically:
Warrior can sacrifice a considerable chunk of their DPS contribution (which includes their own DPS + whatever they boost their party by) to get a weak personal condition removal OR stunbreak.
Mesmer can INCREASE their DPS (which is already extremely high) by slotting skills that ALSO give them extremely strong party-wide condition removal and stunbreak.
Also, because mesmers have more active defenses, they have a higher effective HP. As such, % healed is a better indication of actual heal effectiveness than the raw number of hit points restored. The fact that the mesmer is losing overall health slower than the warrior but restoring it at the same rate means that he’s got better defense overall.
That’s why you see all those mesmers only (maybe with a guardian) dungeon runs.
The class for PvE is warrior, everything else just exists as sidekick.
Luckily for all warriors, ANet is in love with them and they do not want to anger a gros of their playerbase with nerfs right before so many interesting releases. So nothing will change, especially not on the balance patch before Living Sory Season 2.
So you’re basing the effectiveness of a class on how popular is in PuG runs? Are you serious?
The only reason pugs stack warriors is because they’re easier to do well with. If you look at most speedruns, they’ll likely have 1 warrior for banner duty, and stack eles for dps.
No, this is not just about dungeons, it is about PvE.
Warriors are the easiest profession to level, do perform great in any kind of content, have the highest base hp and armor and can be played well easily. They are the rulers of PvE.
Unless you want the game more difficult than necessary and still not performing superior, you do not play anything else but a warrior in PvE.
Therefore:
Q: PVE most used class?
A: Warrior.
…because they’re easier to play? I seriously don’t get all of this QQ about warriors. When you’re solo, sure you’ll be somewhat more effective than other classes due to your offensive buffs. But as soon as you’re in a group situation in PVE, where everyone has the same buffs, they’re easily outclassed. They aren’t superior to eles in DPS, they can’t provide mass condi removal effectively or put up reflects like mesmers/guardians. In a fully buffed group in PVE, their DPS is in the middle, with eles/thieves(single target) easily outclassing them.
As well as that, warriors can’t effectively stack perma fury on their team, or stack 15+ stacks of might like eles.

Nobody thinks engineers are the most used class in PVE?
Engineers are pretty rare in dungeons, that’s for sure. And the few you see are baddies camping FT or AAing with pistol.
posting in skipping/dungeon selling is literally hitler thread
No. I’d rather be able to pick my dungeons and people I play with rather than have e everything randomized.
I also question your progress within the game as you mentioned tanks, healers, etc which this game does not have.
in b4 op is level 30 and had one bad experience with trying to join an AC group resulting in massive QQ
I run FULL zerker ele in LA and survive without any issues what so ever.
If you think you can’t survive PvE, go try PvP. We are kittening cat nip to thieves.
Yeah, I just used 30/10/10/20/0 SD +LH full zerk with no problems. Definitely a l2p issue.
Fear not brothers and sisters of Tyria. My sources have confirmed to me if you are in trouble of being focused down, either pve or pvp format once an elementalist walks into the room they will instantly draw all aggro and selflessy save you.

Looks like this is a l2p issue everyone, nothing to see here. Either that, or troll bait. 2/10
you’re too busy checking to see if anyone else is getting damaged, and not paying attention to the AoE you’re standing right in the middle of.
Etherblades and Molten Alliance are the ones that one-hit me out of nowhere and they do that without AOE. And i do pay attention to my character and my skills etc. but i also see the others around me. It’s called “paying attention” surely you heard of that before.
My warrior and guardian get 1 hit out of no where as well, it’s just the nature of the content. Stop QQing and accept that you’re going to go down in content like this. If you can’t handle playing a glassy ele, reroll.
Never before has my elementalist been downed or killed so many times before.
Lion’s Arch has become a nightmare for elementalists.
Every veteran or elite one-hits me, and i also draw all the aggro while the other classes get totally ignored by the trash mobs and bosses.
This meta clearly shows more than anything ever before that the elementalist needs a massive armor & HP buff. Elementalists are simply TOO fragile to survive in Lion’s Arch right now. Those veterans and elites just hit way to hard for the elementalists low HP and armor. Every downed/dead player is an elementalist. And no, it’s not a “learn to play issue” i run the PVE meta build and i never had problems with it, even in previous hard fights my ele managed to stay alive. I already spoke to other (experienced and skilled) ele players and they have the same problems. Never before has the elementalist needed the developers help more urgent than with “Escape from Lion’s Arch”.
You can’t really kitten the effectiveness of elementalists in a zerg environment like that, where you can’t really anticipate any enemy attack/even see them coming. There are just way too many enemies and particle effects flying around to see what’s going on, in addition to the ridiculously upscaled mobs (being hit by a 40k warbanner ftw).
