For the Toast!
(edited by Eternum.1706)
Hey all. Long story short, haven’t played for 3+ months, looking to get back into the WvW scene. I’m going to be doing both zerging and small-scale open field (GvG and such), and I want to know what the optimal builds mesmers have been running nowadays for that.
I have a deep background in zerker DPS Necro and Ele, so I should be able to survive on a glassy build once I get a hang of the class, if need be.
Looking for something along the lines of either lockdown support or just plain harass DPS. Won’t really be roaming.
(edited by Eternum.1706)
A cooldown on how often the Lord can be rezzed by skills like Banner, Search & Rescue, etc. seems fair to me.
Necro if you’re mainly going to be zerging, Thief if you’re mainly going to be roaming. Thieves can sorta zerg with SB, and Necros can also roam well if you know your spec.
If I were to play only my Thief or my Necro in WvW, I’d have to go with Necro.
Berserker is obviously, at the moment, top of the line damage and it sets a standard. Even if Zerker were to be removed, everyone would just go to the next best option (which would then be top of the line) for DPS, and then that would be the next “x armor only”. The problem doesn’t lie in the stat spread, it lies in the fact that boss mechanics like instant OHKOs despite your gear and the fact that dodges and kiting are the best means of surviving, makes gearing tanky almost pointless in an “optimal” PvE scenario.
Thread no longer needed. Thanks.

Out of curiosity, is there any mention of the prices going back to normal after the tournament? The original news post concerning prices said it would run through the tournament, but no mention about after the tourney. Might have some friends that want to transfer over.
Jade Quarry, 10/10 – achievement tab says 2nd, historian says 1st. Noticing that the achievement tab is displaying each server’s ranking from last season.
I’m actually quite amazed at how frequently screw-ups like this happen, considering it happened last season and there was MORE than enough time to get this set straight.
Pretty sure the only way to obtain cavaliers ARMOR is from fracatals. Perhaps ascended crafting. Correct me if i am horribly wrong.
Nope, there are crafting recipes.
My build is in the video description, but here: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fFAQJAoYhMMqcW4wzBrEBPACxfvG1RUgyVT+E-T1SBAB0s/AXKNGVlAzUC2xJAALlYVqqQZKDwUNm80DAwDAgUARsAA-w
A good night of World vs. World on Jade Quarry against Blackgate and Sea of Sorrows. Good fights all around. I used a modified version of oZii’s Elementalist build which can be found here on the thread he posted in this same section.
I’m still liking Celestial gear despite the drop in Ferocity, especially on trinkets. The build I’m using has a solid amount of survivability while still dishing out nice damage, even in the infamous T1 blobfests. Triple cantrips are really nice again, especially in WvW. What do you guys think?
Echoing the voice of all and requesting the elusive Grenth hood.
Do you still run Force + Battle sigils? I feel with Runes of Strength that Battle is even more mandatory than it is on the vast majority of Ele builds, but what are some other alternatives to Force? I’m currently using Force, but I was thinking if other sigils like Strength, Air, or something like that could work out. Don’t know too much about the sigils and how they’ve changed.
Sorry for the bump, but I decided to make a video of myself running this build (though slightly different). Swapped out the amulet for Celestial, and did Valkyrie accessories with Knight’s rings and backpiece; works out very nicely for World vs. World imo, even amidst the T1 blobs. Here’s the video link with the exact build in description:
How do you Elementalists feel about the changes to Celestial gear and weapons, as well as Divinity and Traveler runes?
Well, I just heard about the Lyssa rune nerf and that sounds like kitten for a build like this. What other alternatives would you suggest? Also, this:
How effective will that stat distribution on trinkets and upgrades be after the Ferocity patch? The armor setup looks fine and seems considerably less affected by the patch, but crit damage jewels got hit hard. Would you suggest Knightâs jewel upgrades over Cavalier upgrades for trinkets afterwards, on the Cavalier trinkets?

Also, what would an ideal trait setup be for Axe+Shield / Hammer? I have a feeling mine is terribly bad, but it serves the purpose I want it to at the moment. I changed my mind about roaming; I’m not going to really be roaming on this build, but I’ll be focusing more on small group fights and the infamous T1 zergs, so Axe+Shield / Hammer has served me well so far.
EDIT: This is what I’m currently looking at for zerging: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vIAQNAneSjMdU5ZnHOewJaAA94Ku2S9gO7iLVQMA-zECBYfCi0yQUBAECg5oFRjtKqIas6aYKXER1AA-w

I’m creating a WvW build primarily for use in small-scale fights and roaming, so take this into consideration. Also, I’m curious on how the gear setup will be after Ferocity is introduced. Here’s the setup:
Axe of Force / Shield of Paralyzation (Berserker) + Hammer of Impact (Knight’s)
0/0/30/10/30
Cavalier armor with 6x Lyssa
Zerker trinkets with 6x Zerker jewels
I’ve been running Axe/Shield + Hammer to great effect in zergs, but with PVT and 6x Soldier runes, with Zerker trinkets. I don’t have too hard of a time surviving at all, so I considered dropping the PVT+Soldier for Cavalier+Lyssa. But, is Lyssa optimal even in zergs and small group fighting? And will Cavalier be useless after the introduction of Ferocity? Perhaps, taking Ferocity into account, Knight’s may be a better option.
Give me your thoughts!
I’ve been playing Necromancer in World vs. World for a long time, and there are three builds I’ve used to great success.
Starting off, I used Ascii’s “Wellomancer” build to get a feel of the profession in WvW and to learn its limits with a decent balance of damage and survivability. There are already links to it here, but it’s 0/25/25/20/0 with Zerker/Assassin’s weapons, PPT/Zerker mix @ Melandru and Cavalier trinkets iirc. I’d recommend this build to any newer WvW Necros, it’s fairly durable and will help you get a feel of how Necros play in WvW.
Once I got more experienced, I changed to a more DPS oriented build and ran 10/30/0/0/30 with the same armor and weapons, except choosing Cavalier trinkets upgraded with Zerker jewels instead of PPT jewels.
Finally, the build I use now, which I used a little in GvGs and raids during my time with FEAR is a 30/10/0/0/30 trait setup again, but with Assassin’s weapons, full Zerker armor @ 6 Scholar, and Cavalier trinkets. I would really not recommend this build until you get very experienced with the profession, but with certain traits along that traitline and under the right conditions, the damage is absolutely insane and still blows me away.
Hope this helps.
I’m not an expert, but I’ve heard rumors that SoR may have lost one or two.
I’ve recently transferred over back to JQ to play some World vs. World with friends who didn’t want to transfer. Now, I find myself looking for a competitive WvW guild that has organized raids almost every night, weekday or not.
A little about me: I just transferred over from Feelings Aren’t Required [FEAR] on FA, and have a considerable amount of GvG and raiding experience with them and other guilds I’ve been a part of in the past. I’ve got every class except Mesmer and Engineer to 80, and can play them all proficiently so I can fill a lot of holes in guild compositions. While I’m not looking for a GvG guild (since I don’t think there are any left on JQ), it wouldn’t hurt to do some GvGs now and then. Finally, I have a lot of experience in open-field driving and wouldn’t mind commanding or leading open-field if it’s necessary, but I’d prefer not to take a main role in that.
Contact me in-game (via mail, please) for any other questions!
Well, both TC and BG had a minute of Very High during primetime tonight. Haven’t seen any from JQ yet, though.
They’ve been full 24/7 recently?
Just roll a necro! Loot bag problems solved.
I don’t think I’ve seen them drop even once in the last month.
If NS is recruiting, they’re pretty solid (or at least were, not sure anymore, haven’t been keeping up) at GvGs and competitive outnumbered raiding right on your home server so you won’t have to transfer. We over here on Fort Aspenwood might have what you’re looking for too; there are practically no queues at any time of the day and we have great times fighting outnumbered.
Honestly, seasons wouldn’t be that bad if tiers could properly balance out for competitive weeks instead of predetermined victors each week based on coverage as opposed to skill. I’m not sure about the other tiers, but as more and more T1 guilds are leaving to other tiers, I’m hoping the current T2 servers will be able to stand up to the current T1 servers by the start of the next season if there is one.
PPT: Literally zero reward outside of seasons aside from a server-wide ego boost for 12 hours. Even in seasons, a green and some blues, a rare if you’re lucky.
Bags: Negligible income compared to PvE/dungeon droning.
All that’s left are the fights.
Whatever’s “going on with SoS”, I’m fine with it, as long as they promise some great fights. Looking forward to seeing ZoD and GH!
As of now, I command on my warrior and I find it does a good well at blasting fields (X/Warhorn) and taking care of your own hammer stuns exactly where you want them. I also feel incredibly tanky without reliance on kills to heal. Though, I am getting a pin for my guardian as well, as they scale much better with numbers than warriors do, and the amount of boons and utility you can give to a large portion of your zerg is too much to pass up.
Sleepy week this week, eh?
Had a great time leading EB during NA prime today, great fights to both BG and SoR – keep it up!
I’m sorry, BG did it first, with 57 golems
Did you hear that guys? It’s Blackgate, self-proclaiming themselves as the best at anything and everything, from Tequatl kills, to Season 1 “World” champions, and even golemancy. All bow down to our ruler, the sovereign, the all-mighty Blackgate. We’re not worthy, we’re not worthy.
Congratulations, Stackgate <3
Anyone want to organize a fight club of some sort? Best way to be entertained in WvW this week.
To the TC at Briar on JQBL:
I just wanted a 1v1 ):
What are your thoughts on the ascended Celestial trinkets versus something more conventional on a bunker D/D such as PVT?
(edited by Eternum.1706)
Had some great fights on SoSBL while running with the RQ crew. That Garrison fight at the beginning was great, though. Well played by all servers.
Here’s what I use:
Feel free to take the 5 in Air and swap it to Water, I just find myself not needing Cleansing Water in the tree, or the 50 extra Vitality. You could also swap the runes for 5/6 Dolyak + 1 Divinity if you feel squishy.
I picked up 2 Traveler runes, so I’m at 2 Sup Water / 2 Sup Monk / 2 Sup Traveler now, I’ll see how it goes. Thanks.
Hello fellow Elementalists, I need some help right now. I just got my Ele to 80, and have been getting a really nice feel with the D/D set, and it feels really active and very rewarding to play, whether in a ZvZ or 1vX scenario. But, I’m torn on a lot of parts of my build.
I’ve been following Intigo’s videos and advice a lot recently, and his videos seem to have the exact, perfect balance of tankiness and damage that I’m looking for in WvW roaming/zergs. He hasn’t posted his exact recent build (I don’t think), but from what I can gather from posts and advice, is that he uses Zerker weapons, PVT armor, 0/15/0/25/30, and PVT trinkets with Zerker upgrades.
Now, I’m not exactly sure what trinkets to use: I’m currently running an ascended Celestial amulet, with a PVT back item, one PVT ring with and accessory, and one Cleric ring and accessory. Some people recommend full Cleric’s, equally as many advise against it. I’m considering what Intigo used; full PVT trinkets with Zerker upgrades, but I’m not sure if it will give me enough tankiness.
As for runes, I’m currently using 2x Superior Water, 2x Superior Monk, and 2x Major Water – I’m not sure what to use in place of the 2x Major Water, or if I should use a new runeset entirely. I’m tight on gold right now from buying a bunch of siege, so full Traveler and Divinity aren’t options right now.
Thanks to all in advance.
Ah, I see. I couldn’t really tell on the armor gallery because of the coloring. Thanks.
Oh, and here’s an attachment of the boots.
Yes, you can transmute as many times as you wish.
the other thread’s got way too much reading to do. mind if i hang out here for a bit?
(though… i did just write a pretty long post myself. :/// it’s my weekly contribution to the threads! i swear!)
Just don’t bring the rest of the server ):
I looked on GW2ArmorGallery, but I couldn’t find it there. Any help identifying it?
Sorry you lost JQ
Try harder next time. I know you have the people you just got to get off the forums and get in the game.
Also, please learn how to use guardians. It’s clear that you all run pure glass and don’t know wat iz guardian. Learn from our superior tactics and AC usage.
Sure thing, chief.
-attachment-
I hope you didn’t make that.
Easy win for JQ
Wow! This is a new and exciting observation!
Grats JQ. You surely earned this.
It’s really ticking me off that people are acting like this towards JQ as if we wanted this, or that this is our fault. Truth be told, we’re not having fun either. We never wanted a lopsided match-up, that’s not fun for you and it’s not fun for us. If you’re going to blame anyone for the match-up, blame ANet or the Leagues system.
Worst new build timing ever.
Excellent group of guys and girls, highly recommend this guild if you’re looking for a fun WvW community.
Clearly a lot of effort was put into your thread and the website, I commend the people who put this together. Looks great.
