The closest game to “perfect” that I can think of is EVE, but of course some people prefer fantasy to scifi, or theme park to sandbox. EVE is still the best though.
Most people are level 80 on their mains, so I expect they are in the high level areas.
I really have no idea why they took the confusion off autoattack, that would have made it at least semi-useful for pve.
Stop being a baby, our class dominates in PVP, they only fixed a blatant BUG and increased our portal CD.
I am proud of my class and regardless of changes, I will adapt and play to the best of my ability
Here. I found a Frig to give you. It’s my last one, take care of it my Hero!
But in seriousness, real Mesmers will adapt to any change thrown at us. We rolled this class because we LOVE this class, not because we have cheap skills. You can tell who rolled Mesmer for the cheapness of the class by who complains about BUG FIXES!
I salute you, aaron o>
You know, calling people that want to voice a complaint over blatant bugs (with terrain los issues and berserker not hitting on its first 2 attacks) fotm rerollers isn’t a good way to make an argument. If the changes to mesmers actually reflected what is stated on the patch notes, a lot fewer people would be complaining.
I prefer running with staff so I’m not affected as much, but my heart goes out to you GS users, especially in WvW. Hopefully they get that kitten fixed quick.
A group leader can set whatever criteria he wants for joining his group. If he wants a fast run, he has every right to take level 80 and/or geared people over others.
My suggestion is to take some initiative and start your own group so you can invite the people YOU want to run with.
@OP: I think you’ll greatly enjoy playing Ele in WvW, it’s a great class for it. Engineer is also a good option imo.
Gear grind and all that aside, the Ele “fixes” and the lovely new Mesmer bugs make me want to tear my hair out.
That is an insane amount of time to grind FotM for tokens. Not happening for me. But hey I heard that Star Wars mmo just went f2p…
There’s no reason to believe that Ascended gear will be the final tier. I mean a week ago everyone thought Exotics would always be the top end gear and look how that turned out. Anet set a precedent and there’s absolutely nothing stopping them from adding further tiers of gear if they feel like it. I’m not upset about it, but there’s no point in sugar coating that it is a treadmill.
The gear treadmill doesn’t apply to any single tier of gear, the concept is that you obtain the best possible gear and the designers add better gear that you once again go after in an unending cycle. The difficulty of obtaining the gear is irrelevant. So as long as they continue to add better items to the game like the Ascended items, the game will have a gear treadmill.
Sounds like Agony/Infusion is GW2’s version of resistances in WoW. And we all remember how fun it was to grind resistance gear right? Right….
257 mb of data isn’t a large download for a game that is 14.5 gig (give or take….) they added a few mini dungeons in the 1 November patch, which alone could be that much data if not more.
A) This download was about as large as many of the previous updates combined.
B) I played after Nov 1st, so anything before that is not included in whatever it is that I downloaded.
The reason I made this thread is because up until a little while ago, if my launcher downloaded something, I could come on the forums and see a post, usually in the form of update notes, that explained what the download was. I just downloaded a fair bit of data and am curious as to what it is.
I don’t think such minor changes really warrant such a large download, there has to be more to it than that.
I just started up the GW2 launcher and had it download 257 mb of data, yet I haven’t seen any patch notes since the 30th of last month. Is it downloading assets for the upcoming update? I guess I’m just curious.
1- Winds of Chaos is a projectile
I think he meant it’s not a projectile finisher, like Necro staff 1 for example.
The only time you should fear confusion is when fighting mesmers underwater. Those trident clones stack it like nobody’s business.
“5 points in Death Magic is an absolute must for any Necromancer build”
Farm DEs with a staff, it will make your life much easier, especially if you’re an asura. It’s a lot easier to get your bearings and figure out where to lay down your aoe when you have range and can actually see your surroundings.
Females look much much better in light armor than males so I made my Elementalist female. My other toons are all male though.
Pick some easy dungeon paths, or wait until the new dungeon comes out and try running that. I don’t like dungeons myself but the achievement is far from difficult.
So everything that’s not berserker’s is useless now? Fine, that gear isn’t good for your build or whetever. It’s fine for other people and if they want it they will farm karma for it. You want gear with certain stats, find out where you can get it and farm that content, problem solved. And save up the jugs of karma for an alt or something instead of using them on a toon that needs nothing from karma.
I do support buying siege with it though, that would be a nice sink for it.
(Side note: The armour pieces you can get for karma are all pretty useless stat-wise).
You know that there are several karma vendors in the Orr zones that sell different types of exotics right?
The games were a lot of fun and the rewards were fine, but some associated achievements would have been nice. Not a 100 win achievement or anything like that, but more like “Convert 5 farmers in a single game of Lunatic Inquisition”, just fun stuff that gives you little bonus objectives as you play. Town clothes are another good idea.
I love Lunatic Inquisition and will miss it when the event ends.
I have seen a couple people running around in that armor in LA so I know it’s obtainable through PvE, not sure how though.
The question is a bit vague, but I would say engineer, simply because pistol thief is a bit lackluster compared to other thief weapon sets. Engineer also has access to a lot of utility compared to a thief. Try playing both to level 10 and see which you like better.
Decent; SoS is just obliterating them in WvW and I would rather not go to that…
So your definition of decent = high WvW population? HoD isn’t in the appropriate bracket at the moment because of transfers so of course they aren’t doing well. You have to be a little more specific with what you are looking for.
Wow… you guys seem to think the passive healing should be some super OP thing… it’s fine tbh, as my ranger i regen around 130 health with that active, and that’s not even including regen… or if my nature spirits up (throw another 400-500 ontop of that =D), i don’t remember if it scales off healing power or not though, if you want me to check just give the word and i can.
It doesn’t need to be OP, but it does need to be comparable to other rune effects…and it’s simply not.
Evasive Arcana is the only trait one. Eruption is the Staff earth 2 skill, and Arcane Wave is a first tier slot ability, so you have access to finishers pretty early on. Just remember to throw eruption down before using whatever combo field you are trying to trigger it with because otherwise the field will disappear before the eruption goes off.
Edit: oh I forgot shockwave is a finisher as well (physical projectile).
(edited by Eurosdown.6072)
Not much you can do about the range issue except swap out of combat. As for combo finishers, there’s Evasive Arcana (the grandmaster trait), Arcane Wave, and Eruption, all of which are blast finishers.
But its annoying when its only one spawn point that works, the other ones have swords.
The other ones belong to the other servers (or are contested), so of course you can’t use them. There are multiple exits from each spawn so use one that isn’t being camped.
You should have leveled through Ascalon, then you would have been sick of Separatists/Ogres/Flame Legion instead!
THERE ARE NOTES!!
…under the October 24th post.

I should have expected this level of communication.
Last post was 7 hours ago and there have been, what, 2 updates since then? It’s probably 90% Halloween stuff though so meh…
I have been wondering the exact same thing, all these downloads and no notes to go with them…
Most of the skins that you can see in the PvP locker are also available through PvE, and thus are wearable in WvW, so don’t despair! You just have to figure out how to obtain the set you like through PvE.
That build is a tough cookie if you don’t run with condition removal, or are a necro haha. I take great pleasure from letting them stack their bleed up high and then sending it back to them. It’s still a one trick pony though, and they don’t have a lot of other conditions to protect the bleed with so really, try some condition removal, it works.
Nope, the mists is completely separate from the rest of the game, including WvW.
Here are some of my favorite screenshots from my first journey to level 80.
Hunting down places for some nice shots was a lot of fun.
*I really like the idea of having a wardrobe which unlocks different looks as you acquire them.
*Agree that crafting is useless, unless you want to level quickly…which should be the last reason to take up crafting.
*Magic find sucks.
*Story…yeah this isn’t the game to play for story.
*Downed state and waypoints in dungeons aren’t too bad but do contribute to the not-very-fun design of the dungeon encounters.
*Multiple currencies are ok but it would be nice for all dungeons to have a shared currency so you can run different ones for some variety, rather running the same one 23 times for a set.
*Dungeons in general don’t feel rewarding enough but Anet is fixing that so I can’t complain (yet…muahaha!)
*Combat feels ok to me for the most part, but some professions feel a lot more fun than others (which is to be expected, different people will have different tastes), and when a lot of people start zerging the fun disappears.
You really just have to keep yourself entertained with stuff you find interesting. Since you’re still on your first toon, I’m sure there’s a lot of the world you haven’t explored yet, and there are some interesting things to see out there. But really if you aren’t excited about playing the game then hopefully there’s something else that you’re excited about out there that you can go play, and hopefully you got your money’s worth out of this game (which is pretty tough not to do imo).
@KOLZ: I play both games and getting a gold in any challenge mode dungeon, or hell, downing any heroic raid boss in WoW is harder than anything in GW2, so please take your uninformed trolling elsewhere. The games are apples and oranges anyways.
There can certainly be benefits to having a strong endgame for people that like that style of MMO, but Anet isn’t really trying to appeal to that particular crowd imo.
I love thieves on my necro/ele, they’re quite easy to handle, but I agree having 4-5 thieves on each team in hotjoin matches is a bit ridiculous.
Yikes, lots of vitriol here toward the dev! At least they comment on something which means they are probably reading the other threads.
Can you link your build and what stats you are stacking? Telling us what level your gear is doesn’t really give us any information whatsoever, and leveling speed is determined 95% by your traits, especially on mesmer.
I’m leveling 3 alts through different leveling paths (I didn’t want to do 100% world completion on my first character because I knew it would make playing alts feel less fun). When I get tired of one I just switch to another. It makes leveling to 80 very slow, which is good because I enjoy leveling a lot more than farming dungeons or Orr.
Ok … but don’t you think that “rerolling” is a fairly odd (and ultimately, self defeating) form of end game?
I liked the toon that I’ve built. I want to play him more. I just feel that there is no more “building” to him past changing his looks.
Which brings me to another point … why have levels in GW2 at all? It doesn’t make any sense to me, since the game goes WAY out of it’s way to ensure that content isn’t level dependent (auto leveled pvp and pve content, etc …).
Oh I don’t think leveling alts is “endgame” at all. If you really want to get technical the only real endgame is Arah since I think it requires level 80 for explorable mode (?). Everything else can be done on a toon who is below max level.
As for levels, iirc during development they wanted to have no levels at all but felt that it would make the game feel too different (because, I dunno, MMO players like numbers that increase as they play ;P).
This is actually very similar to how I ended up playing SWtOR. The endgame bored me, so I leveled alts through story missions and pvp and it was a lot of fun. I will go back and level other classes when the game goes f2p.

Thanks for the heads up. I want to test this for myself on my Necro and if the runes are indeed broken I will have to figure out what to switch to until it’s fixed.
edit: I just did some testing and my bleed duration went up when I equipped the appropriate gear. Tested with Scepter and Staff bleeds on a necromancer.
(edited by Eurosdown.6072)
Ele/Necro get my vote. I wouldn’t exactly say they are hard to play, but they do take a bit longer to get used to than other professions, and they do feel rewarding to play because each can really turn a fight around if played properly.
@Sparda – You get 30% duration from that setup, not 60%
You can go 2x Krait/Afflicted/Lyssa for 40% bleed duration (and 10% duration for all conditions from Lyssa)
Staff projectiles are ridiculously slow for every profession that can use it (ok not guardians but their attack isn’t a projectile), and on top of that, elementalist staff projectiles have a big chance to not hit at all because of a bug. Imo staff projectiles need an across-the-board speed increase because it’s just silly at this point.
