I am planning on making our own CDI.
If ArenaNet is unwilling to let us host it here, we will host it on the WvW forums. Vyx has already offered to make a subforum and give moderator powers to aid the process.
[Syn] Leader/Driver – Retired.
Note that ArenaNet, being a business, will only be interested in ideas that will be able to be monetized and will be cost effective. This does not demonize them, they didn’t create Guild Wars 2 just for funsies. Keep this in mind during our productive discussion.
I’m kind of confused at what people mean by able to be monetized. How are PvE, sPvP, or WvW monetized individually? The whole game is monetized by sales of the game and by gemshop purchases that are mostly cosmetics that work equally in PvE, sPvP, or WvW. Arena.net needs to make a game that people want to play in order to monetize it. Simple as that.
I guess the biggest thing I meant by that is cost/benefit ratio. Consider the size of our player community, and the potential size of the player community versus the amount of time and effort they are willing to put into a game mode or support system. Our community proposal will need to be something that is feasible from a business standpoint.
[Syn] Leader/Driver – Retired.
It seems to me the community has several differing opinions on what needs to be done.
As a note to everyone, I have been inviting prominent guild leaders that have participated in, and represent, many of the guilds that are interested in “raid scale” PvP modes to become part of a team that will be structuring our community CDI and proposal to ArenaNet. If you are a guild leader, and/or represent a group of players interested in this scale of gameplay (past or present players), please contact me (these forums, in-game mail, or on gw2wvw forums) and I will happily invite you to the team. The reason I’m doing this team idea is to allow a bit more organization to what we’re trying to do as a community.
Now, we have several options as we move into the community CDI phase of our proposal to ArenaNet. While I may be jumping the gun asking these questions, I’d like to get some ideas brainstormed by the general community here to give us a sense of direction in our preliminary meetings.
It seems to me that there are several schools of thought on the matter;
1) Introduce support to our unofficial “GvG” – TDM, no leaderboards or fancy stuff, just give more support to the community as we are. Keeping it unofficial, but perhaps with an instanced arena built into guild halls or something.
2) Introduce a “raid scale” PvP mode or arena, much similar to tPvP and whatnot, with game modes, maps, and rosters between 12 and 20 players. This option is most similar to GW1 style GvG.
3) Introduce more integration of the current “GvG” scene into WvW. Perhaps call them “guild battles”, or something of the like. Allow them to have influence on server capabilities, rewards and statistics shown, having instanced guild fights over some sort of objectives which relate to the current Mist War (WvW).
Note that ArenaNet, being a business, will only be interested in ideas that will be able to be monetized and will be cost effective. This does not demonize them, they didn’t create Guild Wars 2 just for funsies. Keep this in mind during our productive discussion.
Please be vocal and discuss further!

Keep in mind this topic is not strictly about the current state of WvW or our version of GvG within WvW. While we can learn valuable lessons from our experiences of WvW and “GvG”, the purpose of this topic is the implementation of a COMPETITIVE and official mode or sub-mode which supports “raid-size” teams.
We all know that WvW is casual, not competitive, and our version of GvG is an unsanctioned mode for a multitude of reasons. The purpose of this discussion and the upcoming community-driven CDI is to brainstorm and attempt to develop something feasible for ArenaNet to create a supported competitive scene for players that wish to PvP on a raid scale (10-20v).
Appreciate the constructive comments. Keep them coming, and keep bumping!
EDIT: Bleachi made a good point about Magic: The Gathering, and how that game mode took off after development by the community. Look at DotA. DotA started out as a player-made map within WC3, which was a strategy game. Now DotA and games like it are some of the biggest esport venues in the world.

This is an amazing and constructive discussion, I really appreciate all the support posts, as well as all the differing opinions being provided. It’s awesome that we’re keeping this on track, lets keep it going as it’s giving me a lot of ideas as to how I want to structure our eventual “CDI” that we are going to bring to ArenaNet.
I’d like to point out, as a general concern people have several times mentioned the “toxicity” of the GvG scene. While I believe there has absolutely been a level of toxicity, I believe that this is partly in place because in order to create a large amount of “hype” around the game mode, guilds create an amount of salt/animosity towards each other to create a “my reputation is on the line in this fight” environment. With some sort of official or semi-supported “raid scale” PvP mode, this type of hype could come from some sort of leaderboard or ranking system, which displays the reputation of the guild instead of them having to hype themselves up and talk trash.
I myself have participated in some of the worst unsportsmanlike trash-talk and vitriol spewing that has plagued our scene, but as you’ll notice it’s myself and (soon to be) a lot of the players I competed with and trash-talked working together to create this community drive. The scene is not necessarily toxic throughout, it is simply a product of the environment in which it was born. Every PvP and competitive game mode has some toxic aspect to it – it’s the natural human condition when competing. The community interested in “raid size” PvP is no different than any other, and given the environment, can thrive just as much (if not more) in a sportsmanlike manner. I firmly believe this is the truth.
Keep +1’ing if you guys support our idea, hopefully ArenaNet is interested in keeping an eye on this!
[Syn] Leader/Driver – Retired.
Opposing opinions are welcomed, as they make arguments for the problems the game mode will have – to which we can come up with solutions in a community proposal to ArenaNet.
I am currently working on gathering guild leaders in the current scene to come up with a loose structure for a proposal, our own sort of CDI. Keep an eye out in the future if you’d like to shoot us down for whatever reason, it’ll just make our ideas that much more airtight!
[Syn] Leader/Driver – Retired.
Keep in mind, my original post wasn’t specifically asking for GvG as we know it. I don’t even want them to call it GvG at this point.
I simply want ArenaNet to open their eyes to the fact that all of us that participate in GvG, and many many players that have yet to be exposed to a “raid” scale PvP mode in GW2 (because none exists right now), have a massive interest in taking the game they have currently and creating a competitive “raid” scale PvP mode.
I have not even heard of another game that truly supports 10-20 players per team in an MMO setting that has truly competitive PvP at that scale. With the number of people interested, GW2 could create a monopoly on that playstyle – they’d be the first to introduce it as a core feature. Not to mention the combat system in this game is freaking fantastic, we want a game mode that we manipulate and master the combat system itself with small outside mechanics (siege in WvW, Khylo, Stronghold being a large outside mechanic).
Compared to the deathmatch “GvG” scene, frankly I’d much rather have a more complex mode- perhaps something related to objectives but with a focus on team fighting rather than NPC management (Stronghold) or object interaction (WvW). There’s a reason Legacy of the Foefire is the most popular PvP map – because it has a strong secondary objective and a more open layout which both rely heavily on player skill and team fights instead of delay tactics or map manipulation.
I understand there are clear obstacles for something of a slightly larger scale, such as the inability to PUG a group that size, or the issue of GvG as it is seeming like a clusterkitten of particle effects to spectators, etc. These are things that the community can and is willing to offer/find solutions for if ArenaNet would simply open a mature and open discussion about the matter. I can already think of a lot of solutions to those issues, and I know that a lot of the players I have fought with/against are pretty intelligent people that would be willing to provide feedback and help construct something GW2 can be remembered for.
We don’t want promises, but we want to at least be able to have the discussion instead of having you guys ignore the community that desires this scale of PvP (which will grow as ArenaNet opens their mind to the concept, and grow even further as we drum up ideas as to the implementation).
EDIT: As of now, I’m going to be looking into leading a community based CDI – something that the community will come together to propose to ArenaNet, not necessarily as an official CDI. It pains me to say that a lot of my friends are leaving this game, or have given up, but I’m going to do my best to at least give this game a shot at retaining (and eventually, growing) their competitive playerbase.

This is an unedited screenshot of a fight between players from NA servers and EU servers in our “made up game mode” we call GvG here in GW2.
While we may all agree that simple team deathmatch 20v20 in a flat surface can be bland and is hardly a game mode, I think that this picture shows you the real interest in large scale PvP. Keep in mind, this is a completely and totally unofficial game-mode, with very little publicity or advertisement. The viewers on this are kitten near what ESL got, with all the publicity and whatnot you guys had on that. Imagine if you had hyped this.
I just ask that you folks at ArenaNet reconsider what your true focus is as far as what the PvP in this game entails. I love PvP, I’m rank 80, play it a lot. I loved large scale WvW fighting as well.
But the lack of a true player versus player mode with a larger scale basis that focuses on the true mechanics of the game’s combat system is a huge business blunder and something I definitely believe could benefit your company.
I think we all understand that WvW is a bit more casual of a game mode – there is no true rewards or incentives to play. This is totally fine, but ANET, you’re missing a massive business opportunity sitting right under your nose by overlooking the community of players that are interested in larger scale COMPETITIVE PvP. You’re never going to compete with League of Legends with Stronghold. But you’re overlooking an entire market because it seems to me, from the outside, that from a business standpoint you’re trying to get a slice of the MOBA pie when you could have a whole pie all to yourself.
Your game has an amazing combat system and an amazing capability to have very intense, teamwork-oriented fights at a larger scale. To be completely honest, I legitimately don’t think I’ve ever seen a game come close to the ability that you have currently to create a PvP mode to support a mid-scale (10-20 vs. 10-20) competitive PvP scene with the success I believe you would have.
I am not asking for GvG. I am asking for you to consider the possibility of having “raid size” COMPETITIVE player versus player, as I believe there is an entire untapped market out there that you would be able to benefit from without having to compete with games like SMITE, League, or DotA.
Just food for thought.

We’ve recently updated our Knowledge Base with an article specifically for helping to address latency issues. You can find that article here
If you have tried the solutions provided in the article and you’re still experiencing latency issues, please submit a ticket to us. From the drop-down menu on this page, please choose Technical Issue. From here, please include the following in the description of the issue:
- Your ISP
- Which data center you’re connecting to (North American or European)
- Your OS (including if you’re running on 32 bit or 64 bit)
- Whether the lag is intermittent or consistent (include times with time zones that you notice it’s worse, if applicable)
- Where you’re located (state/province)We may request additional information about your computer after this, such as a Game Advisor report. To speed up our investigation time, I recommend generating a report from the Game Advisor and sending it as an attachment once you have received our auto-reply confirming that we have received your ticket. Doing this in advance will save us a communication step with you so that we may begin troubleshooting the issue with you sooner.
I can guarantee that the issue is not ISP specific to specific people.
The “skill lag” that we are speaking of is a either a server issue, or an issue closer to ArenaNet’s end. My guild and I feel the lag simultaneously, from all different parts of the world, all different ISP’s, with the same results. Skills will not activate immediately (or even within up to 10 seconds) while our dodge-rolls are effective and have no delay. These issues always arrive when fighting in large groups, and sometimes are a problem when fighting in small groups. The skill lag comes and goes at the same time for our entire group, as well.
Hopefully this assists your diagnosis and fix.
[Syn] Leader/Driver – Retired.
BUMP
can we please at least get some recognition that this is an issue…………..
[Syn] Leader/Driver – Retired.
World versus world has become practically unplayable at times since the patch. This has affected all players from every server, especially T1 and T2. People are actually quitting the game until expansion because of the horrible server lag that we’re experiencing.
Any fight scenario with 25+ players on each side ends in utility, weapon skills, and weapon swaps being unable to be used completely, or having upwards of 10 second delays on their activation. There is no dodge-lag, so it is not the latency/internet connection, it has to do with the recognition and activation of player skills en masse.
I just ask that you fine ladies and gentlemen at ArenaNet bump this issue up your priorities list, or you’ll have a large portion of players who mainly WvW having an inability to play your game until a fix arises. Thanks.
[Syn] Leader/Driver – Retired.
Just to clarify, Syndictive didn’t go casual because of the stability change. We’re actually still drumming up ways to take advantage of it and defend against it.
A lot of us are just burnt out in the hardcore scene, lack of support from ArenaNet and lack of competition just make our way of playing too much work for not enough reward. You can rest assured that we will be back in full force for HoT’s release, as many of the GvG guilds will be coming back to see if we can have some fun with the new stuff being released.
You’ll still see [Syn] raiding, roaming, pvping, and even GvGing, but we’re definitely taking it easy.
As for the stability change, while I think that it has negatively affected the way we’re used to playing the game, a new meta will emerge. I loved melee, I mained both guardian and warrior and that’s why I’m a guild driver.. but this stability change definitely nerfs the ability for skill groups to use melee classes while outnumbered. WvW is not built for balance, however. This is why you have siege, and 80 man groups. This is a reality that people just need to come to terms with – you will always get the short stick if you’re trying to be a skill group in a game that has a more casual atmosphere such as GW2. Being a skill group is supposed to be a challenge, that’s the whole point of it.
Just my two cents.

I will say from a tpvp perspective, Warriors don’t stack as well as guardians do. I’d recommend warriors to not stack builds. That said, the shout “For Great Justice” syncs incredibly well for dps Guardians, each warrior could utilize it. If you think you’ll have high team wide Fury from warriors alone, Guardians may not need to trait for Focused Mind.
Guardians could pretty much be any spec, even the same build, since they stack well with each other. If you all run Absolute Resolution, you each could trade Contemplation of Purity with retreat, or any other utility you find suiting.
You really only need one Guardian with Retreat and one warrior with warhorn #4 skill to have perma swiftness uptime. If the Necro and Ele are staff/range aoe casters, two or three of your guardians may want to have Merciful Intervention to not only peel off quickly in battle, but do substantial team wide healing.
If a War or Ele is is chasing some one down, between Judge’s Intervention, Merciful Intervention and scepter #3, you’ll at least be able to ‘keep up’.I know you didn’t ask for a whole team specilization… just wanted to throw some ideas around lol.
I’d go full zerks: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fVAQNArdRlsApaolDxUI8DNRCRld+9fBIW331PQAkAA-TpQSgAA7PAWGAA
The other guards could go Zerks: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fVAQNArdRlsApaolDxdI8DNhCBl597PmXoEX3gAcAA-TpQSgAA7PAWGAA
You don’t really need a bunker or shout guard since you all will have plenty of support and sustains. Your Stability on F3 will be a big game changer for Stomps.Good luck!
Please don’t listen to this guy.

I’m Fallen. I’m the guild leader and driver (commander) of Syndictive [Syn], we’re one of the top GvG/fights guilds in North America. Because of the expansion announcement, I plan on getting back into PvE in my time off from raiding WvW.
Primary things I’m looking for:
- Not 100% representation – TBH I won’t be repping the guild often, aside from when spending time to PvE.
- Experienced players – preferably a high concentration of players with a lot of experience in dungeons and FotM50.
- Chill atmosphere, no little kids, humor, tolerance for R-rated behavior.
- Teamspeak/Ventrilo/Mumble use.
What I can offer you and your guild:
- I’ve been ~Top150 in NA tPvP leaderboards. Rank 80, and good with any class and almost any build. Know a lot about team composition, etc. So if you’re into PvP or looking to learn, I can help in my spare time.
- I run one of the best fights/blob-busting/GvG guilds in North America. I can help you and your guild with anything WvW related. Builds, team compositions, learning to command, etc. You name it, I can help.
- If your guild is a good fit for me, there will most likely be more players from my guild that will be interested in playing with you and/or joining.
- I’m pretty rusty at PvE, but I used to be pretty good at speedclearing both dungeons and fractals. Once I knock the rust off I carry my own weight.
Post here or mail me in-game at Fallen.4317 if you’re interested in helping me out. Thanks.

As everyone knows, Arenanet hasn’t introduced an official GvG gameplay mode (yet!). This post is just to get the word out there to players that there is, in fact, a player-driven GvG scene that has existed for a long time! There are many guilds that have participated and do participate, and it tends to be some of the best PvP gameplay that I’ve ever taken part of. So, we’re spreading the word, trying to grow the scene, and trying to make our playstyle even more new-guild friendly!

I’ll just put this here again because everyone’s too busy losing their marbles over some white swords that don’t ACTUALLY matter because population and coverage determine WvW scores in the end.
Syndictive discussed this concept with our developer briefly, but I hope this was brought to the table:
Removing the ability to hard-rez fully-dead players while in combat, or putting a timer on WHEN you can rez fully-dead players. (IE, 2:00 after they die)
This thought arises from the issue that if my guild (a skill group) is fighting 20v50, we manage to kill a lot of players on our first pass, say 10. The next players push up into us, and make us kite back from the dead-state players. The players in the back of this massive group then rez the fully-dead players nullifying our work. This makes fights against double our numbers nearly impossible – they become simple attrition battles no matter our organization or skill level. This change would empower skill groups and outnumbered servers during open-field and in-keep fighting without completely destroying numbers advantage.
This change I suggested, in addition to your new PPK system, could easily break down social barriers that exist in WvW currently between the fights/GvG guilds and the PPT focused players. The rift could essentially be non-existent if the kills are a substantial part of the score as well. The only worry that I have is that now PPT-focused groups and players will only run away from skill groups, because they would be afraid to hurt the server score.
Just wanted to make sure that wasn’t getting lost in the flood of super casual non-daily PvX players dominating this thread which is about actual developer response to issues in WvW.
Also, wanted to thank Hamm (Tyler) for his time with us, we left him in the guild and told him he can raid with us whenever he’d like. He’s an awesome dude, you guys should be proud to have him on your team.

Zoose, I mailed you in-game about meeting to discuss GvG, which guilds are still around, the state of the GvG scene and what your options are. Contrary to popular belief, GvG isn’t at all dead, but the scene is pretty kittened up at the moment. Hit me up and we can talk.

I think fights should stay as three-sided as possible.. Defending other servers’ PPT I don’t exactly agree with. However, there have been a few times when a lower population group from another server was getting mega-blobbed and we went in to smash the back end of the blob so their fight was more even.
[Syn] Leader/Driver – Retired.
I feel like the people complaining about this are fighting outnumbered without proper build composition. You have condi cleansing, and you have stunbreakers/stability. You’re apparently just not building enough towards group support or defensively enough for WvW. Not trying to trash-talk, just trying to offer my opinion on the solution to the issue.
[Syn] Leader/Driver – Retired.
For those saying there should be a guild tag, I agree wholeheartedly. Temporary solution – put a target on your commander’s head and have them run without a tag. This takes away the ability to use the target the way it was intended, however. :\

Good luck with that, I’ll just earthshaker your head in after you blow all your skills on immob stacking.
Start running with guilds so you actually have some group comp and condicleanse, only pug groups have issues with immob.

Hey Mobidoy,
Glad to see new faces in our game, and in our class.
A commonly used build for new players is called a “Signet Build”, it’s pretty effective while you’re leveling up to 80, working on your story, and exploring the open world. It’s what I used on my warrior, up until I learned more about the game mechanics and began creating more complex builds. I will warn you, though, that it tends to get a bit boring. Although it is effective and a great starter’s tool, I encourage you to make your play-style your own – GW2 is one of the few MMO’s that definitely encourage that.
If you look in the “Arms” trait-line after you’ve reached level 11, you’ll notice that there is a selectable trait that increases your precision by 40 points for every signet you have on your skill bar. What this does, is increases your chance to get a critical hit – to a massive number whilst low level. This couples with many other traits in the “Arms” trait-line and allows you to do some mighty fine damage.
Your best tool for early-game PvE damage is going to be the Greatsword, specifically its #2 skill “Hundred Blades”. All you have to do is align yourself in front of one or more enemies, press 2, and watch your warrior cut everything down. Google or YouTube a few tutorials on Warrior, and speak with this guy above me who seems more than willing to help you out.
I do, however, encourage you that if you become more experienced, switch around your skills, try new things, find a style you like. The cookie-cutter build I spoke of works, but it can become monotonous and not really feel like your own.
Good luck man, enjoy the game.

But really, Charr armor is bad. As kittens, lots of kittens. Actually been thinking about remaking my warrior just because of how bad the armor is….
[Syn] Leader/Driver – Retired.
Garbage skill, except for very select instances where it MIGHT be feasible. No utility, nothing. To be honest, the only legitimate elite skill Warriors have is Signet of Rage, although Warbanner can be pretty good itself, the cool down just needs to be cut.
Edit, totally agree about the Signet of Rage being very hard to give up- I love the skill, just wish they would make the others more viable. It’s hard to compete with SoR, I feel that becomes a dictating factor in how most people play their warrior.
