Would like to learn dungeons

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Fatfox.4915

Fatfox.4915

Yeah, be honest about not having done it before. Sometimes groups in the LFG tool will say ‘Newcomers welcome’. These won’t be speed runs but it’s a good place to start to learn the mechanics.

All the characters you have listed will be welcome to most groups- just carry some spare weapons in case you need range etc. Be willing to swap out your 7-0 skills mid dungeon. For example CM has a lot of projectiles, so wall of reflection on a guardian is amazing- but its not needed for the last boss on one of the paths, so swap it for something more useful to you.

Read up on the paths a little before you go in as well so you know what the next bit is-if you’re not sure if the group is going to skip mobs or not, ask. Ask Questions. Ask everything!
Good luck dungeoning

Fatfox.4915

Not a pro by any means but these are the ones I’ve found-I’ve not done all dungeons.
AC p2 has a glitch where sometimes the ghost eater will reset if he wanders to the furthest trap.

CM- The aggro I find is very sticky. I don’t know if this is intended but one party member will end up getting all the boss aggro from all bosses despite what everyone else does. Having spent a while running this for tokens, it seems to happen to light armours more. The camera for norns is a bit awkward as well.
The p2 barrel bit is very hit and miss- maybe if the red circles were a bit more forgiving with the barrel placement.

COF p1- The npc required to open the rolly ball gate has gotten stuck on the wall and will not move. Waypointing couldn’t fix this. She died in the tunnel and when rezzed wouldn’t move or interact. This has only happened once though, so the majority of the time it’s fine.
Does anyone know if the balls should be displayed? All I see are shadows :/

I found the dredge and cliffside fractals fine when I tried them in a party of first timers but I’ve not ventured into many dungeons at all. I will do at some point when I’m feeling brave.

in Charr

Fatfox.4915

Also the shoulder pads are always huge and way far away from my Charr’s body, it always ends up looking ridiculous on my light classes.

These are the Cm shoulders on a charr. Even with armour they’d be three feet away XD

Essentially, if it’s not made for charr, its stretched into weird shapes and doesn’t sit right. Medium armours make you fat, light armours just don’t work.

I’m after karma to, but it stacks up when you do the meta events- especially a temple one from orr if you’re there from the start.

Or find a zone that’s not highly populated and they’ll generally be gathering events on going. Much more fun if you’re in a group though. 15-25 areas seem to have lots of events. Centaurs seem to come with lots of events to.

Most champions in Queensdale are classed as an event if you want to multitask.

Fatfox.4915

I was just musing over this and thought despite the ongoing down-time we’re experiencing, this is a very clever decision overall. The down-time from the new living story is taking place now, rather than on the trial weekend, so they know the level of server bashing to expect + Trial accounts.

As the events are only in maps 25+, this clears out some of the zergs from the lower areas, such as Queensdale, to make them more new-player friendly, whilst spreading the load across all the maps (Well kinda).

The cities will also be busy as people wait out the next movement, adding to the feeling of a busy community. it also showcases that the living content is interesting and rewarding to players in the eyes of trial account holders.

The layout of the champions means that those that want to gather loot fairly easily can do so, without a poor new player getting a bad experience with the cave troll dying in seconds. I’m hoping they’ll still be some experienced players in the zone to help them along.

It also adds some extra encouragement to level up fast, though whether this is a good thing or not is not my place to say.

Anyone got any thoughts on this? Sorry if it’s been said before, but I can’t get search to work

Speculation on what the Queen has to say

in Clockwork Chaos

Posted by: Fatfox.4915

Fatfox.4915

Maybe the queen is our salady friend in disguise….

Or maybe, the queen is a minion of an elder dragon and she transforms, destroying any major city she feels like before destorying the crown Plaza and flying through the great collapse to reside under the city until the next story update.

Or, she throws open the doors to reveal….nothing. Because she’s that evil.

Maybe a treasury dungeon or one based on illusion. The watchwork things have taken over the treasury and it’s your job to get that money back, or rescue things. Your worst fears is what they mimic, so maybe they will mimic an elder dragon at the ceremony and the Aetherblades will take advantage.

Though part of my wonders why Rox and thingy are here. As said, they’re not high up the food chain in their respective races, but it kind of feels like they’re there as placeholders, ready to leap into action for this next arc. Flame and frost, southsun, dragon bash, southsun, queenie, so maybe it’s back to that team again?

Either way, if she doesn’t dance, I’ll be disappointed.

This is still happening with tonics.

It wasn’t for a while, but it started happening to me two or three days ago.

Not in combat, (had just come out of combat, enemies in the surrounding area, not aggroed.) low-medium graphics settings. The player is the only person to see the clone, other players in the area cannot see it.

I was using the tonic that turns you into an inquesty asura, and the tonic that transforms you into a variety of hoofed animals and it occurred both times.

You can walk through your clone.

Fatfox.4915

Would be quite interesting to see where everyone is at one point in time, so you could see the population density, but there’s lots of issues with that- privacy etc.
Maybe on the map there should be a symbol that has a different colour for low, medium and high population on a map, possibly linked to event scaling as to how it could pick player numbers up. These could be scattered so there’s around 5 in an area.

This isn’t a game breaker but I’ve found that when I’ve used a form changing tonic on my characters (Charr jumping puzzle woe), once I’ve transformed it leaves a clone of myself behind, that only I can see as shown in the image.

Other people cannot see it, and you can walk through it, it just blocks the view on a jumping puzzle.

Any ideas what’s causing this? It’s like having an out of body experience :P

City Jumping Puzzles

in Suggestions

Fatfox.4915

There’s a similar thing to that in ff13-2, where you climb onto what is essentially the games equivalent of a mossheart and it walks up and down a scripted section, while you aim at items to get them, so you could do it, but treat them as moving platforms. Different types of mosshearts could have a timer on, or a speed boost or a negative effect.

I like the idea of three different difficulties in each city. Hoelbrak doesn’t seem to be getting much love, but you could have areas behind the shrines. Turn into that animal with some jump moves, and solve the puzzle. Wolves howl to go faster, snow Leopards stealth to hide from enemies. Ravens may be a problem, but you could treat a jump as a big flutter. Bears could be smash things as a bear to make platforms when you return to human form. Completing all these could unlock access to a wasteland section which represents the loss of owl.

Platforms above the city could also be an option, an stairwell of ice, or climbing up a giant ice statue of a dragon kind of like morgan’s spiral.

All the suggestions are awesome

I’d just like to say, that torch really doesn’t help too much, I had a go at the LA Pirate puzzle and gave up, as there’s no means of throwing it and it only gives off a tiny smidge of light. I got more light off my dragon wings. If it was expanded to include a throw mechanism like the ones you can pick up- then a new in the dark jumping puzzle would be fantastic. Throw the torch into an empty beacon to act as a checkpoint if it was a really long one though

Environmental/Weather – You’ll love it

in Suggestions

Fatfox.4915

I like how this suggestion keeps popping up from time to time. I’m all for weather, as that’s my degree, but there’s pros and cons to it.

If dynamic was introduced, many people would see it as an ‘optional extra’ as it wouldn’t really affect anything apart from the frame rate and lag, but if it could be linked to events that would be fantastic- though may add more randomness which we already have so much of. Maybe only in certain areas…

Structured pvp could be made more interesting, maybe have it’s own separate map- rain means the accuracy of ranged items goes down, cold means endurance and weapon recharge rate is increased. Stealth could go up in darker times, elementalist traits could be strengthened or weakened etc as long as it’s balanced. I think as mentioned before ff12 did this.

I’m yet to find a similar charr as he looks so friendly, though due to his colour scheme I’m sure there are a few. Light armour is good for looking serious or silly, as most of it is very stretched on charr.
Different skin combinations also help eg, tiger stripes are more popular than inverse colour tiger stripes- see my very young guardian. Dark browns are rarely used in colour schemes to.
I suffer from albino charr syndrome with my others, just as the white colour goes with most types of armour.
Though even the npcs suffer from looking too similar. :P

Guardian skill lag

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Fatfox.4915

Fatfox.4915

Hello,
Me and a fellow guildie are experiencing bad skill lags in all areas, but only on the guardian profession the other professions we’ve tried (mesmer, necro, ele, ranger) have all been fine. It’s not like normal lag either. I’ll try and explain it;

You’ll be fighting fine and all skills will be firing normally, until suddenly your character stands still and gets stuck in the last animation that it was doing.

You try to trigger the skills as normal, but the character doesn’t respond at all. The skills flash as if they’re working but in the end you get a rave on your skill bar. Esc does nothing. You might be able to move but not attack.

Sometimes enemies don’t attack you either.

Then as if by magic the game catches up with you, all the skills fire at breakneck speed, and you have no idea if you died in that mush of 6 enemies going down or not.

only trend I’ve noted is it happened more with the greatsword skills (possibly linked to the jump)

Is anyone else having this issue? As said before, all other classes worked fine.

Fatfox.4915

Guardian jump (GS 3) and teleport skills can also trigger the effect, with skills not working and then random damage.
Jumping puzzles are becoming a nightmare, and I’m already a chunky charr.

I’ve managed to survive a looping jump by moving out the path inch by inch and falling into the water (sharkmaw caverns) at all times my guildie wasn’t so lucky and died after hitting the bottom. And then looped as I was trying to revive them.

At first I thought it was my lag but it doesn’t appear to be related.

jump looping

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Fatfox.4915

Since the latest patch, in Lions Arch especially, I have been finding that after a large jump or a fall, my character is warped back to their original position before jumping again. I know this occurred previously in orr, when jumping towards an invisible wall, but this is occurring in the pirate and troll’s end jumping puzzle now. Also on vistas. The other members of my guild have also had this occur.

This continues even after death, and only stops if I manage to run out of the original path before it loops again.

There seems to be no correlation between character race or profession and no skills are used before jumping. I have no idea why it keeps occurring. I can’t really take a screen shot as it just looks like I’m jumping.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the tips guys, I will get round to trying some of them soon. I would select one as the answer, but they’re all useful and combine to make some good advice.

The fiery great sword is probably due to the wall glitch, especially the 3rd attack.

As an extra bit- what profession do you guys recommend using to defend Hodgkins? I think we have all but mesmers available as we’re still leveling them. Generally the party is one ele, 1-2 rangers, guardians and 1-2 warriors depending on mix up.

Also if there was 2 ele’s would that work in terms of giving all four people an icebow to take down the burrows. Or is Melee better?

I go into a dungeon expecting to get beaten the first couple of times and the people I’ve met in game I’ve met through dungeons. Then by doing the dungeons with those who have a laugh and don’t mind dying as we figure it out it becomes bearable.

That said I would like to see different difficulty levels- but not because I feel dungeons are too difficult but because some days I’m not on form and other days I am. I would be happy with different loot tables for the different levels.

AC p1 Burrow room and AC p2 ghost mobs

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Fatfox.4915

Fatfox.4915

Hey guys,

I’m running with a mixed level group of guildies for AC, covering every class at some point, and while we have no issues with the main bosses before and after, we seem to keep getting stuck on these parts and video guides are of limited use. I was wondering if any runners could give us some tips to help us move forward?

For Path 1, what is the best method of getting the burrows down before Hodgkins cops it? We often have an ele with us, so we’ve tried ice bow, and we’ve had 3 people specced for max dps but we can’t seem to get them down quick enough. Also, those using ranged weapons often find that their attacks are obstructed on the burrows, when there’s nothing in the way. Is this a known problem?

Also, when I whip out the fiery greatsword to cut one down, I end up in the area for p2. Is this a known glitch to?

On Path 2, normally we can get through no problems, but occasionally, due to mob make up we’ll wipe when the traps are being built. Often we get back to find 8 ghosts casually chilling in the corner and try as we might, we can’t take any of them down, we’ve tried focused fire, running in and going crazy, pulling etc, but nothing seems to get even one of them down. We’ve managed it when there were 6 around the body, but there was only one necro in the group. This time we had 2 necros, 2 monks, 2 eles, a ranger and warrior.
Besides trying not to wipe/ restarting, does anyone have a clever tactic for this?

Any help would be fantastic!
