EB was pretty fun last night. Lot’s of fights, with coordinated TC and YB attacks on our supplies. Ended up with both of them turtled up in their areas and us holding SMC.
Yaks and TC are clearly working together. It’s good though, wouldn’t be much of a match up for us if they didn’t.
To me the big question is can you finish someone in a downed state as a moa? Because I sooooo want to.
Regarding FA not defending, my experience has been that few people want to pay for the upgrades and/or siege equipment. I noticed last weekend that most of the camps & towers we held were basic, and full of supply (so they hadn’t just been taken).
It seems like the average FA player is a miser.
As an FA player, I’ll tip my cap to the TC and YB players who were on this weekend. This has been one of the funnest and hardest fought match-ups I’ve seen in a while. Hopefully it continues into the work week.
I like these Darkhaven guys. On the one hand, they complain about zergs. On the other hand, they brag about killing zergs. They’re a contradiction wrapped in an angry, whiny shell.
@Felix – No thanks. We already have issues with guilds claiming locations when they have no buffs to provide (which is the ONLY reason a guild should be claiming a location). The last thing we need is more guilds rushing to claim something when they have nothing to offer that will help hold it.
If they are getting rewards for holding the keep, then they’ll defend it instead of running off after the next objective.
Another suggestion: provide tangible rewards over time to guilds who have claimed a camp, tower or keep.
That’s cool, thank you. I’m kind of surprised FA (my server) is still leading our match. It seemed like SoS had us during the US night hours, but maybe populations have moved or whatever.
I’m on FA and had some good fights yesterday in Mag borderlands. And I third the notion that it would be better if SoS and FA had more similar peak times, but what can ya do?
Catapults firing from inside the keep/tower can be countered by placing the ram in such a way that the edge of it’s range is just touching the door.
Golems are countered with ballista.
Cannons & ballistas. Arrow carts, unfortunately, don’t have enough “oomph” to knock players out anymore.
Both cannons & ballista have good range and do really good damage, plus an already-built ballista will knock out any enemy siege equipment that it can reach. The tricky part with ballista is setting them up where they can hit attacking players without getting hit themselves. Somewhere up high, but not behind a ledge (the ballista shot will just hit the ledge).
No need to shut down WvW rankings as all they are for is to create even match-ups. There really is no “winning” or “losing” in WvW, just the next match. And even though the rendering and hacks are a problem that needs to get fixed, they have a relatively low impact on who wins or loses a match.
@ Smitten: Relish doesn’t pop the profanity filter, “w.h.o. relish” does because the first 5 letters spell a word that rhymes with shore.
When they implement 40 vs 40 sPvP I’ll do it. For now as I love Mass PvP I’ll stick to WvW. Thx for the suggestion though.
I love my wife and I don’t kitten about her every day to anyone who’ll listen. So I suspect you don’t love WvW as much as you think.
Again with this scoring system players playing on off-time will have huge advantage against players playing in peak-time. Why punishing peak time players more although they are getting beaten by queues already.
There are no “peak” or “off peak” times. It’s 24/7. Go play sPvP, please.
EDIT: r e a l l y becomes kittenlly?
“W.h.o. really”, first 5 letters. Rhymes with shore.
If you’re looking for fair fights, do sPvP Conquest maps. Those are specifically designed to be fair.
WvW is a sandbox, it’s not going to be balanced.
That’s fine, it’s all about mechanics that encourage the greatest number of players to play… thereby a win for us all. Right now, folks are giving up with WvW after a night capping run or due to pop imbalance. Either they disengage from the game or they add to queues on Winning servers. An imbalance is being fed.
Good, let them. There are relatively low caps on how many players can get into the battlegrounds, so reducing the amount of people who WvW based on whether they are winning or losing leads to a higher chance for people who enjoy PvP regardless of the circumstances to participate. And that will lead to better matches.
Also, 30 million threads about night-capping but hardly any threads about players who only queue for EB?
Most of the people opposed to 24/7 WvW just need to discover sPvP. sPvP is set up for balanced matches, WvW is a sandbox environment specifically designed for “anything goes”. Quit asking ANet to turn WvW into sPvP, it already exists.
2 weeks is fine to me. I’m looking forward to it, actually.
I was unaware that the server scores decided whether I was enjoying PvP or not. I’ll have to pay more attention when I’m logged in and adjust my attitude accordingly.
Seriously though, just PvP. The server scores were never meant to be a reflection on you personally, and players who interpret it that way will never be happy.
I’d get rid or repair costs because siege weapons & camp/tower/keep upgrades are enough of a money sink.
Edit – P.S., all you guys who think “it’s fine” need to spend some time being the guy who brings the siege gear, or who does the upgrading. I can easily go through a gold/day just doing that.
DAOC had mismatches, they just didn’t show up in day-to-day scores as only relics “counted”. Holding keeps was pointless outside of relics and DF access. Scores were really kept individually, not as a realm or server.
It’s too early to make dire predictions for WvW yet. We need to allow time for players and servers sort themselves out before ANet should do anything.
One thing I will say so far is that all the issues boil down to player participation. Large-scale PvP is not for everyone, and a lot of the playerbase is starting to figure that out. Let them.
I agree with this, and made posts saying such in other threads.
Basically, I want to log in and see my server down. That way when I log off with my server up, I know I made a contribution.
I don’t understand the hair-pulling and jumping around that people do if their server falls behind while they are not logged on. It seems immature; it’s WvW for Pete’s sake, it’s determined by players from all over the world. It needs to be epic, and sometimes that means the challenges are epic.
Go run a dungeon or something if you always need to win, or you want the result to be based solely on your personal contribution.
You get rewards for defending as well, so I don’t understand the OP’s argument.
As far as I’m concerned; all the siege needs a significant price increase. 6s for an arrow cart, zerg counter or not, is absolutely ludicrous for its effectiveness.
Destroy it then.
Let me hop inside a defended keep/tower to do so and I’ll certainly try.
Use a reflective shield, the arrow carts will take damage. Do it often enough and it dies.
Or just get on high ground with a ballista and take out all the defending siege.

Actually, an upgraded tower or keep is really easy to defend. People aren’t bothering to upgrade things much right now (probably because servers are resetting every day), but that will likely change. Also, stacking defensive siege in a tower or keep is more difficult for attackers to overcome.
And if someone brings 100 siege golems to take a keep, they will deserve it if they’re successful.
So i farmed now almost 1 karma set in BG’s but the 2 maps and repetitive gameplay has become very old fast.
Due to bugged skillpoints im unable to proceed with map completion.
Because of a bug in the lvl 80 dungeon i cannot proceed here too.I don’t like playing sPvP. I have 1 profession at 400 and most items are exotic. So what else is there to Guild Wars 2, except “farming” items with similar stats?
Become a WvW leader, become a trading magnate, run a guild. There’s more to MMO’s than just character development.
I agree with the OP, there shouldn’t be armor repairs in WvW. Siege gear and upgrade expenses are expensive enough as it is.
