It’s not that I don’t think we’re viable, I just don’t think there’s any reason to have an Ele on your team in the current meta. Why bring an Ele when an S/D thief, a Necro, or a Spirit Ranger, (I guess now a Warrior even) would be a better option? We don’t bring anything to the table that those classes can’t bring a better form of.

After something like 40 to 50 tries I finally got to put this jerk in her place. I beat her at the very last second, while in down state, as the floor was dropping out. That was a thrill. And now the mini pet reward is the only minipet I’ve ever ran around with. Because I’m kitten ed proud of this achievement. GW2 PvE hasn’t given me that since of challenge, anger, accomplishment, and pride until now. And it did it using interesting and new boss mechanics, instead of stupidly high health pools.
Thank you Anet. Queens Gauntlet has made me believe in the future of GW2 PvE. Give the group that put this together a pat on the back for me.

Hey everyone. I’m looking for a skilled, experienced PvP team. I generally sit between 300 and 600 on the (team) leaderboards. I play elementalist, and I’m proficient in every ele build. I’m most comfortable with my 0/20/0/20/30 build. I’m a skilled team fighter as well as 1v1 dueler. I’m great at communication. I can adapt quickly under pressure, and I take constructive criticism (seriously, I love it. I love to improve.) I have experience playing with coordinated teams, and I have played against high end players.
If you’re a serious team looking for an elementalist, then hit me up. I expect your team to communicate well and have the means to do so (ts3, vent, etc.) I, also, don’t want to play with a bunch of jerks. Criticism is fine, but I won’t play with ragers, kitten talkers, etc.

But if duo queue isn’t in the team queue, then 3 queue can’t be in the team queue. And I’m assuming we can’t 4 queue in team queue already.
Because you have to be able to get 5 people on a team.

Hey everyone. I improved the weapons and skills section of the guide and talked about some strong and weak points of each of our abilities.
I have some pretty awesome additions to the guide that I’ll be rolling out in the next week or so. I really want to expand on the survivability section and talk about our ability to group heal our party. I might add a section on peeling for teammates. And I definitely want to add a section for tips on 1v1ing some of the more popular builds out there.

Honestly what was said in map chat doesn’t matter. It’s the official rules that do. I didn’t see the finals, but if CC won the first two out of three games, and I were ArenaNet, I’d send CC to PAX, not TP.
Rules are rules and you don’t make them up as you go.
The rules clearly state that the tournament organizer has the final say on all rulings. Meaning that nothing is going to get changed. I don’t think anything needs to be changed. It was definitely a mistep on Mist Leagues part, but CC had plenty of time to complain about this before the match started. If the situation was reversed CC obviously wouldn’t say a thing. They waited to see if the bo5 was to their advantage, and when it wasn’t, they complained.

A note on Air Training, not only does this trait increase the damage of your air spells and your arcane spells when cast in air attunement, but when mixed with Arcana 15 (Lingering Elements) it increases the damage of all spells cast for 5 seconds after switching out of air attunement.
Lingering elements only affects the water and possibly fire and air 5 point minor traits. It might’ve worked for the earth minor iirc, but broke somewhere along the way. It definitely does not cause other attunement bonuses to linger unless they fixed it today. I doubt it though since it’s been like this since launch.
The only major thing to note is that your health is fairly low and your toughness is fairly high. This can make condi pressure difficult to deal with. We have a lot of cleanses at our disposal (Swap to water to clear 1, dodge roll to clear 2, dodge roll while in water attunement to clear another 1, water 5 to clear 1 more.) Use all of them and use them regularly.
While it may be good advice for someone just starting out or before the necro patch, the condi-heavy meta means you can’t afford to use all of them at once regularly. If you’re getting pressured, you sometimes might want to wait until the bleed stacks ramp up from 5 to 10 stacks for example. Your target might also be waiting for you to blow your cleanses since it’s pretty obvious when they’re used.
Other than that, it’s a nice summary of a build that’s remained relatively static (knock on wood) for the past few months.
To your first part, I had actually never tested it! I just assumed haha. But you are correct on that, and I’ll make sure to edit that out. I still think Air Training is worth taking for the other reasons I mentioned.
To the second part, you’re definitely right. I kind of rushed through that section (as you can probably tell haha.) I’ll go back to it at same point over the next couple days and expand on it.

I’m definitely not a top tier player (barely top 1000), but I do PvP a lot and wanted to throw my imput into this awesome thread.
In my opinion, when it comes to balance, you balance around the absolute best. Everything below the absolute best is just considered a skill cap. The game can’t be balanced around casual players, because it ruins the tournament scene. And anything with a prize pool needs to take priority over hotjoins.
As for the topic of the thread, I agree that this meta is just flat out boring. Condi application is too rapid with too little of a counter play. Most power builds have obvious tells that you can dodge to avoid damage. Not only are most condi tells much more obscure, they’re on far too short of a cooldown, and can be recast way too quickly.
I’m not going to go more in depth on why and how Necros, spirit Rangers, and S/D thieves are OP. That’s been beaten to death in this thread. But I agree with every point made.
As an Ele, I do wanna say that, if Anet fixes those three classes, S/D ele should be next on the chopping block. S/D Ele can throw out over a 10k instant cast burst that’s off the global cooldown and can be done while stomping, stunned, knocked down, disabled, etc. That much instant cast damage is outrageous because it can’t be countered. Anything that can’t be countered isn’t fun to play against. It doesn’t promote skill, and it’s bad for the game.

This is absolutely the stupidest thing I’ve ever played. When he gets his health low, he stacks his special, and you’re not getting a single bluff off the rest of the match. Your best bet is to belch his heal when you’re at low health. You still need to get real lucky to win, but that’s your best shot.
Edit: also, you pretty much have to forfeit every other match so you he doesnt start with the hidden critique buff. And even if you do a normal drink, his belch still hurts you. You have to get incredibly freaking lucky if you want to beat this guy right now. I’d suggest staying away until he’s fixed.

I think Putrid Mark should be blockable but it not being blindable is fine in my opinion.
Putrid Mark is blockable. It requires a 10 point Death Magic (arguably, one of our worst trait lines) trait to make it unblockable.
The problem is, necro staff is so useless without the accompanying bigger mark size that no necromancer worth their salt will ever try to use staff without taking that trait, pigeonholing us into a trait line we don’t want. It has been one of the most requested changes since the game went live that ANet make the “Greater Marks” size the default size of marks to diversify builds, while merging the unblockable part with the 20% cool down trait available at 20 points in Death Magic. Most of us don’t care about the unblockable part. Its the bigger mark sizes that we need, because without it, staff is useless.
Furthermore, why are we complaining about this now? It wasn’t OP before. Literally nothing has changed about this skill until this patch, which actually nerfed it to a 3 condition transfer from a full condition transfer. Why is it that when necromancers suddenly get burning (which we never asked for, we wanted survivability, not extra damage), every other single aspect of that class is now OP as hell and needs to be nerfed? Why?
The problem isn’t just the one spell Kravick. It’s every buff that the necro had. Necro’s damage was far from UP before this last patch. And they had solid utility with boon strip and condi cleanse as well. But Anet added burning (damage boost), torment (extra condi= more damage from other sources), Spectral wall (more control), Across the board well cooldown reduction, Easier life force gain, and the general change to weakness (a condition that necros can apply more often than most other classes) helping the necros survivability.
That’s a lot of changes that, instead of fixing the real issue (being necro survivability and escapability) made an already solid damage class overpowered. There’s no reason to bring any other condi class, because nothing can bring near as much pressure and team support as a necromancer can.
You want remove dhumfire from necro. You want to nerf terror damage. You want to necromancer to get back to 1sec doom. You want to remove fear from spectral wall. You want to nerf corrupt bone even more. 5 boon max wasn’t enough. And now putrid mark? Just what do you guys exactly want for heaven sake!?
It’s not that everything needs to be nerfed. Just something needs to. All these things piled together make a necro OP. Reduce the viability of one or two of those things and they’re closer to balanced.
It’s not my job to decide how to nerf them (thankfully)

The reason you want Air training over any other trait at that slot is because you can “abuse” the trait by attunement swapping part way through a cast.
All of our hard hitting spells have some sort of delay between when the cast is initiated and when the damage occurs. You can use this delay to switch into air attunement and get a bonus 10% damage on those spells.
Example: Cast dragon’s tooth and switch to air attunement before it hits the target. The dragon’s tooth will do 10% more damage.
This works with EVERY spell that has a delay. Which means 2-5 in fire, 3 in water, and 4 and 5 in earth. With fresh air, that means that a ton of your hard hitting spells can get that 10% bonus damage. It’s an incredibly strong trait combination.
Edit: it also works with utility skills. So if you’re running arcane spells, try to use them in air attunement (if you dont want to use them to force an air attunement) for the bonus damage

Condi’s were non existent (except for the possible HGH condi Engi) until this patch. Last patch, HGH was considered OP. This patch, Necro is considered OP. BRING SOME kitten CONDI REMOVAL. Stop complaining about condi classes and start countering them. Stop running around with a ton of toughness and no vit. Change your runes to Hoelbrak runes. Bring some condi cleanse in a fight.
Necros still don’t have any reliable way to get stability or a stun break. Knock them down and blow them up.
Also, stop running into the kitten fear wall and calling them OP.
The last patch changed the meta. Necros aren’t OP, players just need to learn to adapt.

First off, fresh air is currently bugged, it doesn’t have an internal cooldown so you can literally spam switch back to air as long as you crit. (this has been reported)
The point of fresh air is to give you the opportunity to get out of arcane. While it’s obvious use is in an s/d build, where it’s pretty much an extra 4k damage every 4 seconds (in it’s current state), I can see it being using in d/d build as well.
A d/d ele could spec 0-15 points in arcane, and thirty in air, and use the air auto attack while waiting for other attunements to come off cooldown.

Also, I dont even feel like elementalists were nerfed. They nerfed one trait and moved around a couple of stun breaks (which isn’t even really a nerf) while giving us quite a few buffs. People were upset that we were required to go 30 into water and Anet made it not necessary. Everyone should quit using the same build they’ve been using since launch and realize that d/d is stronger than ever.

Just so everyone knows, the Stone Splinter trait is currently bugged. It’s only giving 5% of a damage boost instead of the full 10%. Not exactly worth it at the moment in my opinion.

We’re actually getting buffed pretty hard according to the “leaked patch notes.” So I really don’t understand where this is coming from. Things get adjusted, and we as elementalists need to adapt to the changes.

Taking away two stun breakers from d/d, IMO that is the final nail in the coffin since the class cant survive without mobility.
Nobody is taking stunbreakers away. They are just being redistributed to different skills so builds that aren’t completely cantrip focused aren’t royally screwed whenever they get hit by a stun.
By definition they are taking stunbreakers away. You would have to be an Anet to run a glyph that gives you burning(already in fire), weakness(already in air), chill(already in water) and cripple(already in earth). If you want to run a glyph that gives you what you already have, and lose out on a teleport that actually keeps you alive be my guest. Oh, and kiss earth 5 goodbye. Since you are running glyphs now good luck landing that one.
Lightning Flash is still in the game. It’s not a stunbreaker anymore, but it still teleports you. If the leaked notes are true they also increased the damage of it by 50% (Turning it into a heavier burst to add to a burst combo) and reduced the cooldown to 40 seconds (Meaning you can use it much more frequently, almost matching Churning Earth’s cooldown). Seems to me they’ve tailored the skill specifically toward landing Churning Earth.
D/D is still far, far, far away from being unusable. Just now your solid cantrip set up isn’t as loaded with stunbreakers as before.
I can still survive pretty darn well without having three stunbreakers on my utility bar. I’m not seeing what the massive problem is.
I’ve never used a super heavy cantrip build but I have always used Lightning Flash as a blink and stun break. I also have the passive earth shield traited but I would not want to rely on that. Also, like 90% of other Elementalists, I have never even attempted to use Lightning Flash for damage! Take all the damage off, leave the new cooldown and put the stun break back. Same with RTL, 15 sec CD (40 is just…) , no damage and same range. Zippy and mobile fun, like I remember my Ele, a long time ago.
Lightning flash won’t break stuns, but you should still be able to use it while stunned. You’ll just have to lightning flash far enough away for the stun to wear off before anyone can get to you. That’s how most of the other classes blinks work at the moment, so I’d assume that’s what ours will be changed to.
However, if it’s not usable while stunned, I’d be pretty upset.

Finally, we’re going live this Friday night at 8PM EST 5 PM PST. Our guest will be Omie, a WvW ele. We will be mostly staying away form the recently leaked patch notes, as they’re not official yet. However, next Friday’s show will be just Zoose and I going over all the exciting changes that we receive.

Hey havent been able to make it into this thread for a while, we really appreciate all the feedback and there’s some great information that we’ll look into talking about on the show.
@process execution: Thanks for pointing that out. English is my first language, but I find myself pronouncing words incorrectly fairly often. I’ll definitely try to keep the correct pronunciation in mind when doing the podcast. As for the incorrect skill-name usage, it can be really tough to keep track of all of the skills, traits, etc in the game. We do our best, but sometimes we draw a blank. We’re always working to improve the podcast quality, but remember, we’re not professional podcasters. We do this in our spare time (for free might I add) because we want to help the GW2 community. Keep that in mind, and bear with us as we try to improve our quality =)

I’ve actually been messing around with a 0/0/30/10/30 bunker build in PvP for a while now. That 2.5 seconds of stability (it’s increased because of 30 arcane) can be really strong when teammates are going for stomps/revives.
