Poor Rewards for GW2

Glacial.9516

Does the OP mean 5 ascended drops excluding crafting? Because crafting is the easiest way to get the ascended items you want. Prices on certain things cost more now than they did before, but materials for crafting ascended weapons are not that difficult to gather (~12 ascended mats; either Deldrimor steel ingots or Spiritwood planks). I bet you could do one AB meta per day and get enough Mithril for the daily crafting of the metal, then spend an hour a day gathering Iron, another hour the next day gathering Platinum, another Soft wood, etc. to cover the rest of the materials.

There are even a lot of little collections you can do to earn yourself a great many ascended weapons. Elite spec collections all reward an ascended weapon, IIRC the most expensive part is the Mystic coins. You can do the Caladbolg quest for a cheap ascended weapon. If you’d rather spend less gold and do more questy things you can work on the Machined weapon collection for an ascended weapon box but it costs a -lot- of map currency. (On the plus side, Machined weapons are account-bound exotics so they’re helpful while you’re still working on Ascended).

My only complaint about the loot/rewards is one that’s probably more of an upside than a downside – Nearly everything has a value in gold. Therefore it ‘feels bad’ (just a little) to know that instead of crafting an ascended, I could have sold the materials for ~70g.

Anyway. I think the game is plenty rewarding in terms of gold/materials gained per activity, but you have to take it that extra step and craft with it or do the collections to see that final reward.

Things I would change

First – melee/ranged is not well balanced. Melee is over-favored in organized play while ranged is over-favored in solo and zerg play. I’m not convinced that giving melee way more damage with the same utility is the right way to balance them. Maybe some, but a better way is to give melee better defense and mobility (i.e. armor bonus, deflection mechanic, etc.), not way more damage.

Melee is fine imo. Some bosses favor melee, some favor ranged. Just like some enemies use ranged attacks (and thus reflects are incredibly useful) and some use none (making reflects useless). Pick the right tool for the job, that is why classes have flexibility. Luckily both ranged and melee work in most situations.

Second – offensive vs defensive stats are way out of balance. Because so much damage avoidance is tied to dodging, and dodging is limited, it becomes disproportionately important to end fights quickly – meaning that offensive stats not only make the game more fun, they increase your overall attrition relative to defensive stats, which is silly. I think that Vitality should increase endurance regen in addition to health, and either toughness or agony resistance should have an impact on condition damage ticks. I also think toughness should mitigate damage in a subtractive rather than a divisive way, so that weak attacks are severely minimized while heavy attacks still need to be dodged.

I tend to agree that defensive stats are a bit lacking (in PvE). It’s definitely easier to kill a mob quickly while my control/defensive skills can protect me than it is to try to outlast its attacks. However in my case, this is mostly a learn to play issue as I have a very hard time discerning enemy attacks and my dodges tend to be predictions on when I expect to be attacked, rather than reacting to a tell. Still I do think making defensive stats useful in some other way would be welcomed. It would be nice if they could help mitigate the frequent ‘little damage’ more, as you suggested.

Third – BLW skins are handled somewhat poorly, and after 5 years we have no new weapon types. Too much emphasis is on making same-theme skins for all weapon types when there should be a greater focus on just making unique skins for individual weapon types. This would not only be more interesting & exciting, but it would help remove barriers to adding new weapon types (such as polearms), which I think is badly needed (I’m pretty miffed at the missed opportunity of adding land spears with Elona content).

New weapon types are always nice, I would like to see spears (and others) but I’d imagine there’s a -lot- of work that goes into making them so I’m not surprised either. I think there’s a lot of uncertainty when it comes to adding new weapons and that their best bet would be to add multiple new weapons at the same time and ensure that every class gets access to at least one. After all, it would feel kind of bad if a new weapon were tied to an elite spec or if only 2-3 classes get access to it, while being equally silly if every class gained the same new weapon. Still, I think you’re right about individual weapon skins vs sets. If they choose to make individual designs it would free up some of their design decisions instead of feeling forced to design it a certain way to match the rest of a set (presuming they’ve ever felt this way). I don’t dislike the themes/sets but I wouldn’t want it to limit their creativity either.

Sixth – elite spec acquisition is very awkward and needs to be changed. You can’t experiment with it before mastering it without gimping yourself, which means that, even though you unlock it right away, you just have it on the backburner for the entirety of new content until you master it, which takes a while. Some kind of change here is warranted that allows you to experiment with the new weapon and skills without having to use an unfinished trait line.

When unlocking my first elite specs I had fun playing them without all of the traits. In fact, only in the case of Daredevil did I feel hindered by not having GM traits (for obvious reasons). It may not be ideal but I mean really, you’re unlocking the elite spec not maximizing your dps in a raid. It’s okay if you’re not at 100% the moment you step inside PoF. As for testing the specs out, I’d say that’s what the PVP lobby is for. It’s enough to get a feel for them. In fact I’d suggest any new/returning player go into pvp and try out classes before deciding which to level, and then to try out both elite specs before deciding which to unlock first.

Why are titles so divorced from lore?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Glacial.9516

I definitely think the Order titles should be available and I was shocked that they weren’t when I first played through the PS. I’d love the Lightbringer title myself.

I’d also like to see more of the in-game NPC titles, or ones that relate to in-game groups. “Seraph” “Bandit” “Inquest” “Savant” “Mender” “Valiant” “Dreamer” “Courtier” “Flame Legion” “Shaman”. The kind of titles that suggest we’re just one Tyrian among thousands and a part of the world instead of a special snowflake, renowned dragonslayer, savior of the world-type. (Not that there’s anything wrong with those kinds of titles as well, but sometimes it’s more fun to play something simple).

Wait, there is no raid story mode?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Glacial.9516

Sorry for the stupid question but as someone who has never played WoW: What is raid story mode? How is it different to the existing raid?

I’m guessing some would have different expectations for a solo/story mode. I don’t know what WoW’s is, but my definition comes from a game I’ve played where it was an easy/solo mode for dungeons that was specifically designed to be done alone. It had toned down mechanics that let players get their feet wet in a safe environment and let them do their story dungeons without relying on finding a group. Naturally it had significantly reduced rewards to match the reduced difficulty.

As for the topic, I wouldn’t be opposed to a story mode for the raids. I wouldn’t expect any kind of rewards but it would be a lot more engaging than watching a youtube video to try to get the experience. Plus it could be an alternative option to unlock the Raid Masteries? Maybe? Hopefully?~ But not likely.

No Flying Mounts?

Glacial.9516

In fact, one thing I’m going to do once I have a mount and some time, I’m going to try to get a level two down to the most southern corner of Orr by simply running past them on my raptor. I’m curious if it’s possible, and I think it is.

Interesting. I’m going to guess that this may be impossible (not because of the mobs but because you’ll probably get at least one level from map exploration). I wonder how low you could be if you optimized your route to get as little exp as possible on the trip there. That would mean unveiling as few areas as possible and avoiding WPs and POIs I’d imagine? Which might be exceptionally frustrating if you die.

What am I to do with unuseable birthday dyes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Glacial.9516

Not the best solution (nor even a good one) but you may be able to salvage the dyes into pigments? However I’m not sure that rarer dyes give more pigments.

Edit: According to a reddit post, it does seem like rarer dyes salvage into more pigments.

fine 3,918 dyes = 11,838 pigments = 3.0214 each
masterwork 2,422 dyes = 15,712 pigments = 6.487 each
rare 487 dyes = 5,060 pigments = 10.39 each

I think it looks decent enough. A bit cramped as others have said. I’d have preferred it to be further away from shore to give it more of a boat feel, and an open top would be awesome. It’s not something I would specifically buy deluxe for.

I did expect that it would have more but I feared that it would have a lot more. When it said Casino a part of me thought they might introduce a new mini-game only accessible through the Lily. And while a new mini-game sounds fun, I would hope it would be accessible to everyone and not hidden away in a private area.

The character birthday is one reason I don’t delete as many characters as I otherwise would. The leveling process isn’t terribly bad, so aside from having to obtain HPs again and to remap things, remaking a character when I’m tired of her and want something new would be very appealing. If they were to change this, I think it would have to go by character slot instead of actual character? But then of course you can’t delete and remake for a new set of birthday gifts (if you wanted to wait the years to get them).

Hero Point icons

Glacial.9516

I apologize if this has been discussed I looked but no luck finding a thread.

Today I noticed that the Hero points icons have changed a bit (only noticed it today but am not sure when they were updated). It looks like it applied to the HoT ones and I would assume future PoF ones as well. The unacquired HPs and the incomplete repeatable HPs look far too similar and without looking very closely are difficult to distinguish. I actually thought it was bugged when I went in AB and saw that despite having 8/11 HPs, most were incomplete. That is, until I noticed the icon in the corner suggesting they were repeatable.

I actually like that Anet is giving us a way to see which HPs we’ve received quest credit for each day, but I’d much prefer if that information did not make the HP look incomplete. Say, a checkmark over the repeatable symbol when it’s completed?

While I’m not in favor of dueling, I don’t think there are that many downsides to it either. If it were to be implemented, it shouldn’t be available in the major cities though because who wants to hear people dueling in front of the bank or trading post? Plus causing additional lag with the spells going off.

In games with dueling I always found it obnoxious how some people would chase after you spamming duel requests again and again. Sometimes when you have them disabled they even whisper asking to turn them on with nonsense like “are you scared?” and “just try” as if the declining had anything to do with them specifically. So, while I wouldn’t welcome that kind of annoyance I also wouldn’t expect the vast majority who use the feature to fall into that category.

I do think it’s nice (in games that have it) to wander by a group of people conducting friendly dueling in a semi-organized manner where people can watch or join in at their leisure, maybe get their feet wet and find themselves exporing more pvp in the future. Then again, that may be as uncommon as the trollish annoyances mentioned previously.

Suggestion: Make Multi-Guild Optional

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Glacial.9516

I’m not sure I understand the purpose of this thread. What you’re asking for is either already in the game (if you’re suggesting that guilds can ask their members to be a part of only their guild/100% Rep), or totally unreasonable (if you’re suggesting that guilds can enforce that players are unable to join any other guilds).

No guild has the right to deny membership into any guild except their own. If anything we need access to -more- guilds because of the number of niche activities that the game has. PvP, WvW, Raid, Fractals, RP guilds. Specific maps like Silverwastes and Auric Basin guilds, or Tequatl ones.

Wanting your members to be loyal is fine and dandy, but it’s a two-way street. You can’t mistrust them and expect them to stand by you at the same time. And to be frank, if a guild ever tries to threaten/persuade me to leave my other guilds because I wasn’t being ‘loyal’ enough, they’d probably be the first I’d leave.

Leftover Mastery Points Shop?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Glacial.9516

Glacial.9516

If your ‘mastery level’ displayed the total number of points you’ve earned rather than the number you’ve spent, that may be a small and immaterial reward for completing them all?

That said, if there were a shop that let you trade an excess HoT mastery point for say 50 of a HoT map currency, I wouldn’t see the harm. Though I also see no harm in simply having the extra points.

Request: Do NOT tweak the mounts.

The mount movement reminds me of vehicles with imprecise controls in older games. It’d be fine (and rather fun) for general map travel, but I dread to see anything that requires very precise movements, like a jumping puzzle without adjusting the controls to better match the player.

Edit: Feels considerably better when using the mouse for movement and turning. The keyboard strafing is where it gets really clunky.

Why is there a Guild limit?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Glacial.9516

Glacial.9516

I don’t quite understand the opposition to more guilds. If any person wishes to join few, one or even no guild, so be it. They have that option whether the limit is 5 or 50. The fact that someone else wishes to join 10 or 15 guilds has no impact on them.

And why has the discussion turned to good vs bad Guilds/Leaders? What determines if a guild or a guild-leader is good or bad? Why does it matter if they are? So long as there is no restriction on the amount of guilds that may exist, what is the harm if a guild consists of two people or two hundred? If the guild is focused (WvW, Raids, PvP) or a group of friends that are using it to have a chat function?

Speaking of which. I’d actually be quite content if, instead of more guilds, they introduced a private group chat system. That way groups of friends who use guilds as a form of communication can do so without taking up a guild slot which may be better served as a content-focused guild.

Shrugs Whether they increase the guild limit or not (but especially if they do!), I would like to be able to customize the colour for each guild’s chat.

Thief used steal on me during evade

in Elementalist

Posted by: Glacial.9516

Glacial.9516

So what if it isn’t insta cast? None insta cast skills are evade skills, an evade skill requires a skill time duration where you evade during the casting time.

This is not true at all. There are many instant cast skills with evade frames. Eles have a couple. And not all skills that are evades have the same cast time as they do evade duration. For example:

Burning retreat = 0s cast, 1s evade
Burning speed = 3/4s cast, 3/4s evade
Updraft = 0s cast, 1s evade
Hidden pistol = 1/2s cast, 3/4s evade (Charr)

If you use burning speed to evade vs Burning retreat you can really feel the difference in the time it takes for the evade portion to activate. I know when I became too used to burning retreat I found myself getting hit during the cast time of burning speed before I adjusted to it again.

I don’t have a problem with the way Hero points are right now. It would be a very unnecessary annoyance to require an instance to do them. I like being able to assist someone with a HP when I’m just passing by. I also like that I can join in a group (whether it be a train of 20 or a group of 4) roaming around the map doing HPs, especially when I’m playing a class I’m less than familiar with and will fail miserably solo.

Like others have said, there are quite a few soloable ones. Many don’t even require combat, especially if you’re playing a class that has access to stealth or invulnerability. On a Lv40 Elementalist I managed to get 16 HoT HPs solo (though 2 were from a partly completed DS map, would have managed the other 4 if the meta finished).

All in all, I just don’t see a need to change them.

Convert Skins to Transmutation Charges

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Glacial.9516

Glacial.9516

Wouldn’t that render the “buy transmutation charge for gems” useless?

Yes, but no. Really if you PvP enough, or just do the story on enough characters, you can already get enough transmutation charges that you wouldn’t need to buy them. Those players who would buy them will probably still buy them because they can, and just don’t want to get them through game play. The idea is to give a little value to extra skins, and I doubt it would drastically affect the sales of transmutation charges from the gem store.

I get about 100 or 200 skins a day that i already unlocked. That would mean about 200 transmutation charges a day. Thats way more then you could ever do on pvp. And not even the richest of the richest would keep buying thoses charges if they get 100 for just playing an hour any kind of content

Ah, what they’re talking about isn’t every weapon or armor that you get, but the actual free transmute skins that are given with certain items.

For example when I recently purchased the Gemstore Phalanx set it unlocked all 6 pieces in my wardrobe and additionally gave me 6 armor pieces as free transmute skin items. You can’t equip, salvage or sell the armor skins, only use them or destroy them. I used the pieces I liked but I did trash 3 of them because I didn’t plan to use them now. Not a big deal as I value 3 inventory/bank slots over 3 transmutation charges, but it would be nice to salvage them into transmutation charges instead.

Cultural armor and gear sharing

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Glacial.9516

Glacial.9516

This may not be easy to do, but I would think the ideal solution would be instead to tie the transmutation to the Cultural armor level/tier. That way if you transmute your ascended armor to look like Human Light Cultural 1, on a Sylvari it would be Sylvari Light Cultural 1 or a Norn would be Norn Light Cultural 1 and so on.

Thank you for the update. It sounds like a perfect fix for the ABMM. I do echo the sentiments of others that reducing the amount of leather needed would be a more desirable fix, especially if the farm is group-based, difficult and located only in a LS3 map, thus being inaccessible to many players.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Glacial.9516

Glacial.9516

-Still no stat overlay so i dont have to mouse over every piece of gear to see get the stats i want, this is a feature that every web browser build out there has, whats the hold up?

Curious. What does this mean? I’ve never played an MMO that shows you the stats of equipment without mousing over it. Do you mean a symbol/icon that represents each stat set so we can see at a glance (once we remember what each icon means) which stats the item has? That would be helpful.

Anyway, overall I think the UI is okay but not great. Being able to adjust it ourselves would be fantastic (though not something I’d ever expect to see implemented). 100% agree with the ability to remove the achievement and story displays in the corner though. They are very unnecessary.

Lightning Flash not 1200?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Glacial.9516

Glacial.9516

I think Lightning Flash is in an awkward position. In its current state, I think it’s one of our best utilities. And yet you’re right when you compare it to the other teleports (Blink and Shadowstep) it’s lacking. Here’s how I crudely score them:

Shadowstep:
-1 points for cooldown (50s)
+1 for Condi cleanse
+1 1200 range
+1 for Breaks stun
= 2

Blink:
+1 for Cooldown (30s)
+1 for 1200 Range
+1 for Breaks stun
= 3

Lightning Flash:
+0 for Cooldown (40s)
+1 for Damage
= 1

And so while I would gladly take 30s cd, 1200 range or stun break (just one, not all) added to Lightning Flash (and would replace the damage for another in a heartbeat), I’m not sure it’s needed because it already competes for our best utility skill. It would be nice but personally I’d prefer to see the weaker utilities brought up to par (and not just for Ele but for all classes).

Suggestion: Transmutation changes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Glacial.9516

Glacial.9516

This has been posted several times and the implementation that I’m most in favor of is to allow armor to be transmuted into any weight, but only if the rest of the armor is of that weight type. Essentially, any class can use any armor appearance, but you cannot mix and match heavy, light and medium together. I’d certainly like to see more diversity in each armor type, but I’m not sure this would be the best way to do so.

I would think a good implementation would be to require all pieces to be transmuted to the same weight type before being able to apply changes. That or having to remove all other pieces of armor before transmuting, which would make it significantly more difficult to match pieces without wasting transmutation charges.

As for the concern of not recognizing your opponent, I think that’s mostly irrelevant with outfits. Plus with many weapons being shared between classes, even if you recognize the armor you’d often still need to see something profession-specific.

What Legendaries SHOULD have

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Glacial.9516

Glacial.9516

I think this would be a fine thing to add to all weapons and armor of any rarity. The stipulation being (as some other posts said) that the sigil/rune is consumed and added to the weapon as a possible option. So if one wishes to do so with an exotic, that’s fine but it’s not as if you would get your sigils back when you upgraded to Ascended/Legendary (except for the current one should you salvage it). And legendary would still be the best choice for it.

As for the sigil/rune market, I’m sure it would hurt it but I don’t know if it would hurt it much. It might? I think it’s already a pretty terrible market given how many are sold at vendor price. This type of change may also bring some practical usability to the sigils that target mob types.

So the overall logic in this thread applies not for regulary shop users/buyers of this item. Yes yes I could wait. I know but I can’t. (.. and already bought )

Another questionable trick

This is a good point. It would probably make sense to be able to purchase all remaining slots at the most discounted price, regardless of whether that amount is 1, 3 or 5. Then again since you (and likely others) have already bought them, maybe their current model works just fine? Shrugs It would be nice though.

Players need to learn what "DPS" means

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Glacial.9516

Glacial.9516

Taking it way too literally. I used to think it was strange when I’d see DPS used like this too, but just about every MMO uses it as the term for a primarily damage-dealing class. It’s like when a person asks for heals by saying “hp” (and I’m understanding hp as hit points or health points). It may not be correct, but its an accepted usage of the term. Granted one could understand hp as “heal please” but then you could also view dps as “damage person” or “damage please” whether asking for a class or for attacks.

I think it’s especially useful for games that may have users of different languages playing together. While saying “Attack the boss please everyone” may sound nicer, it may not be as readily understandable (in the MMO world) to some as “DPS” would be. Plus it’s a lot shorter to type (which may be the most significant reason it’s used?).

I can’t deny I’d like to see a story mode for raids/dungeons that is intended to be done solo and provides little to no rewards. Preferably one that would offer toned down mechanics so that players can see what the bosses do, even if they don’t experience the full effect and can play through the story without slowing down a group.

Then again, I suppose one could just watch videos for the cutscenes and mechanics. Probably best to put developmental efforts elsewhere.

Skill/Trait Rework

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Glacial.9516

Glacial.9516

I’m in between on my preference of the trait systems.

I think I like the current trait system better than launch as a whole. I think the layout is easier to understand and it looks a little nicer. It’s quicker to check your traits at a glance and to switch between them. Still, I do miss the option to choose adepts/masters in place of masters/GMs. I’m glad that stat points are no longer tied to the traits because I don’t feel that a trait line should be labeled as “if you are playing a power build you must take this line,” even if that’s often still the case.

The training process I agree is a complete mess. It’s very punishing if you don’t already know what skills and traits you want as you can’t experiment (outside of pvp lobby) without permanently unlocking said traits and skills. The redeeming factor is that by 80 you’ve unlocked everything anyway so any mistakes are temporary. Unfortunately if you -do- make a mistake and choose a trait line that doesn’t synergize well with your preferred weapons or playstyle, you’ll feel it all the way to 80 (or at least until the late 60s, early 70s when you start to get lots of excess points). I think a refund hero points option would be useful pre-80. Give it two confirmations so people won’t do it by mistake.

Glyph's Suggestion

Posted by: Glacial.9516

Glacial.9516

I’m inclined to agree that Inscription should be moved out of Air and that Arcane would be the ideal line to swap with, especially so if Inscription maintains its Master level trait position and one of the current Arcane Master traits are buffed into a GM trait.

The other thing I’d like to see is Inscription changed from boons to increased Glyph duration. -20% Cooldown, +20% Duration.

This would mean:

GoEP = 100% uptime when traited (36s duration, 36s cd)
Storms = 25% uptime (12s duration, 48s cd)
Lesser Elementals = 69% uptime (72s duration, 32s cd after death)
Elementals = 50% uptime (72s duration, 72s cd after death)

GoEH would lose a bit from this. Perhaps the base boon durations would be buffed a tad to compensate, if needed. Such as…

Fire is fine at 20s of 3x Might (24s traited)
Water to 15s Regen (18s traited)
Air to 15s Swiftness (18s traited)
Earth to 5s Protection (6s traited)

For Glyph of Renewal, the duration would only affect the Fire ability, but that glyph probably needs to be scrapped reworked anyway (along with many other revive utilities).

Please Remove Daily/Monthly AP Cap

By reaching the cap you’ve completed the Daily AP category, just like you’ve completed Agent of Entropy or Weapon master achievements. That should be something to be proud of.

That said, I think it would be a great idea to combine it with now-unattainable achievement points and in that respect the cap would grow as more achievements are retired.

Wow, that looks -very- frustrating. I would probably report via in-game if you see them actively doing so.

Also I just played around with the filter to see what triggered it. It seems you said “disappointed.” followed by “Am I the only one” and it filtered out the ‘d’ on one line and the ‘Am I t’ on the next.

[Suggestion]: Gemstore Armor set piece Box

I know similar threads have been made before asking for the armor sets to be sold in individual pieces. However I haven’t seen one suggesting it in the form of an armor box (and part of the reason I discounted it as ‘not going to happen’ is because it would be a real chore to scroll through that many separate pieces in the Style tab).

So! What if Anet released a Gemstore Armor Box that allowed you to select one of the armor skin pieces commonly available for 200-250 Gems (ie. Magitech, Phalanx, Flamekissed, Aetherblade, etc. Perhaps Krytan, Primeval and Profane as well even though those are 500 gem sets). Each set typically sells for 800 gems so 200 is a 50% markup on 1/6th of the set, and in exchange you are able to pick and choose pieces that you want. And wouldn’t apply to skins that are sold separately like hats or glasses.

Friends and Followers lists reordered

The header columns will sort the list temporarily (though only in the 4 options available), but it doesn’t change the ‘default’ order. Like I said it’s not a big deal but I thought I’d post it here anyway in case it’s a quick fix and Anet decides it’s worth the time.

Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but after the rollback the Friends list and the Followers list have been reordered. I don’t know which order they are in now, but am fairly sure it used to based on when you/they were added to friends.

Daily points capped at 15000.

Question: Why is Daily AP different from say, Slayer AP? Why is there no argument to remove the Slayer ‘cap’ and gain 5 AP for every 500-1000 kills indefinitely? Or Weapon Master? Or Map completion? There’s far more AP to be gained by expanding upon those kinds of achievements than on dailies, and far faster too (well, maybe not Map completion).

I’m glad that there are caps on Weapon Master and Slayer. I think Slayer could be significantly higher – say expanded to 2.5k, 5k or even 10k, but without a cap the achievement becomes grinding out AP and AP becomes a form of exp. Maybe in some ways it already is?

I can definitely understand that it feels less rewarding once you reach the cap. Just as killing centaurs may not be as rewarding once you’ve reached the Slayer cap. I would think of it as ‘completing’ the achievement and instead add a counter like Agent of Entropy has that will count the number of times you’ve completed dailies, even beyond the cap.

The daily achievement cap cannot be reasonably increased without also increasing the rate of daily AP gained each day. At 10 points per day, it would take someone 1500 days or over 4 years to reach the cap and we’re just coming up on GW2’s 4th year anniversary now. Had 10 AP/day been the rate from the start, we may have only just begun learning there even was a cap in the coming months.

I do believe that the cap is a good thing to help players to catch up but it would be nice if there were something after 15k. One idea may be to increase the cap by 1 AP per day. This way it will continue to increase but at a significantly lower rate that does allow players to catch up (and doesn’t punish players at the cap for missing a few days, they can catch up quite easily too.)

Elementalist Changes

Traits:
Conjurer - If conjures don’t receive an overhaul, I’d like to see: Conjure cooldown -20%, Conjure weapon skill cooldown -20%.

Inscription - Needs changed. I think changing the trait line would help the most, and I also really like the idea of changing the effect to “Increases the duration of glyphs by 20%, Reduces cooldown of glyphs by 20%.” (Storms to 12s, GoEP to 36s, Elementals to 72s). Elemental Harmony could use +100% duration to mimic existing Inscription, otherwise perhaps tweaks to its boon durations.

Chill - A trait that works with Chill. A few ideas:
-Burn on Chill
-More damage to Chilled enemies
-Increased crit chance vs Chilled enemies
-Gain Regen or Vigor when applying Chill
-Applying Chill cures a condition
-Your next Chill freezes instead.

Arcane Resurrection - Yes please, this trait is so bad. Apply the aura at the start of revive, Cast Swirling winds at the start, or increase revive speed to 20%.

Arcane Precision - While I think it’s okay as is, I would be curious to see how it functioned with a longer icd (9ish seconds) and a proportionately stronger effect to encourage attunement swapping to take advantage of it in multiple attunements (the icd is separate for each, right?).

Weapon Skills
Dagger Main – No complaints.
Scepter – Bleeds on Shatterstone (lol, yes I’m serious!), faster Air1? Maybe bleeds on Earth3.
Staff – Mostly good. Bleed on Unsteady ground? Faster Air2?
Dagger Off – Frost aura at 25s, RTL 25s.
Focus – No complaints.
Warhorn – Water4 knockback could be faster. I like the Warhorn a lot but the CC skills feel clunky.

Upon clicking this thread I assumed it would be a troll thread attacking the other races and I am glad to see it was not. I think the OP has a point – designing armors and outfits for multiple different races surely slows down the development. Perhaps it doesn’t take 5 times as long, but I would venture a guess of at least double? (No data backing this up, purely speculation and assumption).

I don’t think the story would be drastically different with one race vs multiple, except in our interactions with other races (ie. If the Pact commander were always Sylvari, HoT would have been very different and very interesting). It still has to encompass both genders and a wide variety of personalities. Perhaps it would have been fun to have played more on the Ferocity – Dignity – Charisma aspects and have different voice actors and/or variants on scenes for each (rather than small, nearly irrelevant choices).

All of that said, I love the different races of Tyria. There is something about each that I find fascinating. I really enjoy playing through the personal stories and learning about the cultures. They are each unique but still share similarities that make them relatable to one another.

I’m quite happy with the way GW2 is and I don’t think I’d trade the other races for more outfits and a more involved story, but it is interesting to think about what could have been.

Achievement Points Cap

Consider this: At the current rate of daily AP (10 per day) it would take over 4 years (longer than GW2 has been released) to reach the cap of 15k. If the cap on dailies is increased then perhaps the rate which daily AP is gained should be increased along with it?

OP, what is your real issue with the downlevel system? There is no competition between players in PvE for grinding zones or for events or for heart quests. If you get even a single hit on a mob, you’ll typically get full exp from its death. You don’t get less exp for partying with a Lv80 vs a Lv40. Would you also consider it unfair to have a Lv60 in full rares in a Lv60 zone because most of the other Lv60s are in underleveled masterwork gear?

The downlevel system ensures that everyone is on roughly the same page without slapping them in the face for it (ie. Restricting traits and utilities). If you removed it, you’d have autoattacks doing tens of thousands of damage to mobs with 500 HP. Any problem you perceive now will be exponentially worse. The downlevel system does its job and does it well. Treat others in a zone with you exactly as they are: Friendly adventurers to help you complete events and quests, not competitors which you must best.

Leveling

Glacial.9516

I believe that was a part of the New Player Experience back in September of 2014? Lots of things are now unlocked at specific levels instead of being unlocked from the start or through skill usage. It’s a bit annoying for weapon skills and for classes like Elementalist that don’t get access to all of their attunements until level 15 or so but ultimately it’s not that bad and you’ll likely adjust quickly.

On the plus side every level gives you some kind of a reward now, be it items or skill points, which will help to keep your gear up to date, and you’ll have all of your utility slots unlocked pretty quick too (before 20). I would suggest planning ahead so you can choose which utilities and trait lines you’d like to unlock first and have them ready for levels 21, 45 and 72 (which unlocks your 1st, 2nd and 3rd trait lines, respectively). Speaking of traits, while they may feel like they have a bit less freedom than before, they are considerably stronger allowing you to take more traits now and even giving access to GM traits as early as level 21, provided you’ve unlocked them.

You cannot undo spent Hero points, but you do get enough to max out every trait and skill (except Elite specs) by the time you reach 80 even without doing a single Hero challenge. So while poorly spent points may make leveling a bit more troublesome, they won’t hurt you in the long run.
