I recommend Valkyrie.
As a power necro/reaper you’ll spend a lot of time on DS, so you’ll need to take Soul Reaping as a trait. By equipping the mid tier-3 trait you’ll get an extra 50% crit rate while on DS, making any aditional precision redundant. By taking Valkyrie, you’re switching precision for vitality without any major loss in damage.
I take Speed of Shadows on reaper as well, the reduced recharge on DS has helped me a lot.
I’m currently using Knights armor w/ Spite+Soul Reaping, but I’ve noticed that if I go Death Magic+Soul Reaping I can easily hit 2600 power (2300 w/ Berserk), but the biggest drawback from a zerker build is that I have no ferocity, except from accessories.
So far, how are you all building?
I’ve decided to drop Berserk in favor of more defense, hence I’m using Knight’s armor, since I can easily keep up 16+ stacks of might. I’ve been thinking about dropping Knight’s and going either Valkyrie or Marauder (I think that’s the name of the 4-stat rune: power, toughness, precision/ferocity, vitality) but I don’t have enough materials to craft it.
As for utilities, I’m running heal shout + Suffer/You’re all weaklings and the 3rd slot is usually locust signet. I’ve found myself constantly in need of either acid cloud or a 2nd stunbreak. I wish I had a way to walk faster

Got my copy this Tuesday, so far I still haven’t received my extra character slot
so far I’m enjoying it, abusing sigil of hydromancy like a madman.
oh amazing. do you know for many ToT the shoulderpiece is going?
I bought mine earlier this week and still nothing. There’s a thread about official bug report, let’s all post there and hope ANet sees it!
As a necromancer, I am nearly crying.
BRB rolling a mesmer
The bat wings are in the gem store. 700 gems gets you a back skin of the wings, as well as a glider skin of them, which is pretty neat. (It looks like they added glider skins for the black/white feathered wings as well.)
I haven’t seen where the other things are yet.
those bat wings that you speak of are backpiece or the shoulderpiece?
I downloaded 1.3gb before being able to play, then new build build came and I’m waiting it 100% Download. Now it’s around 800mb I think itll reach 1gb soon
So around 2.3gb or more, overall
please don’t fix it you’ll ruin my build :’(
dang i was so happy.
Elite Specializations & Hero Point Feedback [Merged]
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

dont like don’t play, you’re part of a vocal minority.
you’ve probably already packed tons of hero points from doing dungeons/fractals/wvw non-stop, by the time you map complete verdant brink you’ll have everything unlocked and still many points remaining
I still haven’t received my bonus character slot from veteran pre-order, as advertised.
When will they be distributed?
I’m using shortbow trapper and having a blast.
I’m using marksmanship and traited for extra trap CDR; When healing spring bug is fixed + 3 traps (flame, viper’s, spike) we’ll have 100% uptime on Superspeed w/ trapper runes. I sincerely think it’s worth it.
Also, going beastmaster and traiting for extra condi dmg on torch + axe trait will also work pretty well (although we become dependents of traps). Axe #3 becomes AoE chill, #1 ensures a constant source of might while our 3 traps will wreck havoc on enemies
bear in mind all im talking is PvE. Loving A/T and SB condi trapper, definitely not going back power
I like using Rune of the Pack on this build.
Warhorn (untraited) + this = permaswiftness, not to mention the occasional swiftness, might and fury to your minions. For the amulet I use the power/toughness/vitality (I think it’s soldier, can’t remember).
I’m using SoV now, will try blood fiend later.
Has anyone tried taking Foot in the Grave and dropping Wurm for shadow fiend? I think it should work but the teleport sounds too good to pass
Yeah, if you don’t try to do anything it basically removes half your HP, if you build for it you can kill yourself.
+1
Managed to remove 70% of my health in heart of the mists lobby with a full condi build.
I bought this game on first week of pre-order and have been playing ever since.
There is no acceptable answer to Why both my traits AND skills are locked away from me since I have been living with them since day #1.
Protip: New players are NOT ALWAYS on new characters. Veterans create new charactes too, and they already know how to play the game and don’t need to be spoonfed trait/skills.
All of necromancer’s elite skills are horrible and have been severly overnerfed.
new skill system is ridiculous, they managed to do something WORSE than the trait system
also note that the DOWNED SKILLS are LOCKED
so are skills for UNDERWATE COMBAT. You have only the #1 until roughly lvl ~8.
I had plans on getting all classes to 80, but there’s no way I’m touching a char pre-40 in a very, very long time.
Unholy Martyr would be great IF our skill #1 in DS would send our conditions to enemies, just like the underwater version. They could scrap Renewing Blast and give us this for all I care, the heal is so insignificant that it’s laughable.
good changes for dagger, axe and trait
all our elites suck. Since I’m sylvari I’ll become well/mark support in WvW with the big spirit.
So, in summary:
- Lich Form has been gutted, losing 1/3rd of its duration time, no longer gives power
- Golem doesn’t do damage if he’s stuck at wall (hint: he always is) and lost charge speed
- Plague no longer seems to give power/toughness
Our choices in WvW already were down to lich/plague, since they both are ruined, can we use a 4th utility slot in place of our elites? I honestly would prefer this
Your idea is nice, interesting and sounds very fun to use.
However, bear in mind that main-hand weapons need to have a spammable 1, that’s how we kill stuff. You’re proposing a CHANNELING 1, which is completely against all other weapons in the game.
If you changed to, say, a melee-hit that continuously build up damage, and exploding into a projectile on the 3rd hit, would be useful.
I’d really like to see something like this implemented for necromancers, but with a channeling 1 it’s just a no-no, unfortunately.
I don’t mind necros with maces/torches. I’d love to throw green fire around!
and yeah Dhuumfire makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, it should be completely reworked into something new and more useful to the Power line – burning not only doesn’t fit into necromancers but also doesn’t fit into the Power line.
Axe needs more damage or faster attack speed on 1, or a 3rd hit, I don’t know. It’s just so weak that it’s not even worth using, Ever.
Axe 2 is good-ish but needs shorter CD
Axe 3 is fine
Focus 2 could use a shorter cast time, 1sec, so it wouldn’t hurt dagger-main so much when cast.
Signet of Undeath is horrible. There’s literally zero situation in where you’ll use this, and I’ve never used it before nor felt like I needed it.
Signet of Locust active needs buffs
only if my Asura can ride a Charr into battle
The build diversity is the same in both games.
GW1 had more skills, sure, but the majority were underpowered and never even used in the first place.
GW2 has less skills, but makes up for it with traits and expanded gear compared to gw1. If two builds used the same skills/utilities but had different traits/gear, those two builds would be played very differently.Additionally, gw1 and gw2 were made by completely different people. Don’t let the ArenaNet name fool you. Almost everyone who set the foundations of GW1 had left the company by the time GW2 got into the picture.
Uhm, no. In GW I could choose to use my pet or not, choose to run traps or not, I could even choose which skills I used to DPS. GW was waaaaay more diverse in builds than GW2, and that’s just Ranger. Each profession had 5-10 builds they could run and still do well(even in HA/TA/RA). Yes there were “prefered” builds for PvP but you still had 3-4x the builds you could choose from.
Technically you are right, but you also forget that, while GW1 probably has around 500 skills, AT LEAST 60% of those were complete garbage, and some classes (Paragons, to be more specific) had ONLY 2 or 3 viable builds.
Sure, I miss scythe rangers/assassins, E/Mo Ether Renewal healers, splinter barrage ranger, crit barrage assassins, healer necromancers, etc.
but, like it’s been said, GW2 makes up for it due to traits and that every single skill is useable (good is debateable)
I’m around 36 on my ranger and, while I enjoy playing with her quite a lot, I’m still kinda confused as to what are the best options on a dungeon.
I’d like to move away from spirits, but I get the feeling that they are, by far, our best utility spells. Other than that, I bring traps to combo w/ greatsword’s 3d skill, healing spring and 3rd slot probably will be the toughness signet, maybe I’ll use the shout to send the pet to revive.
for pets, I like the moas due to daze + healing, and frost drake for AoE skills + chill.
I’d like to know what other setup rangers around here use, in order to know more combos that our class can make
hey, are you guys still recruiting? I couldn’t find any info on your website nor could I find the 4 contact options online.
If you were, I’m interested in joining. I’m keen to do some WvW, as well as other content across the game
No, a lot of people have misinterpreted that. Anet stated that there would be no expansions in YEAR ONE of Guild Wars 2 and that there would be expansions later down the road and new ones released on a predictable schedule.
Then it seems that I’ve misunderstood almost everything that they said about this during the development of the game. Could someone please link me an article where they clearly state that there would be no expansions only on year one, and maybe, possibly, in the future, only?
Yes I do agree that paying $ for content is better than paying $ for minipets, costumes, etc. however this is the only way of income for ArenaNet through the game, besides selling new copies. I personally have not bought anything from the gemstore yet, but I am considering it as a form of showing support.
And from the news reported by Massively, I’m glad that it’s not a 100% certainty that there are going to be expansions, but more of a “wait and see” thing. I’m more keen towards Living Story than expansions.
Then again, I believe that the only situation in which I would not complain about an expansion would be if they released the other continents, Cantha and Elona, onto Guild Wars 2. I wouldn’t mind if they charged me full game price at all, it would be worth every cent.

I’m sorry my dear ANet, but why is this expansion pack for Guild Wars 2 even being made in the first place? I am 100% sure that it has been clearly stated by the own devs. that Guild Wars 2 would receive no expansion packs whatsoever – additional content would be released, continuously, for free, after the game had been bought. What happened in the past 8 months that made you completely change your policy towards the game?
I know hows the system for GW2 works: we buy the game, we buy gems, we buy cash items, ArenaNet receives money, pays its employees to develop new content for the game and for the cash shop, we get happy and invite friends to play and the cycle repeats. Yet I do not know where would the expansion pack fit there: oh hey, you have to buy the game, but don’t forget about the expansion packs! Expansions are great, because they always bring a lot of new content to a game, however they also mean that we’ll have to buy them, and for the new player the game becomes even more inaccessible, if we assume that the game price is directly related to the amount of new players to the game.
Yes, I am slightly mad about an expansion pack being made, especially because I will have to buy it because I really love this game, but I am more curious as to what happened to ANet’s policy over the past 8 months. Yes, I would most likely pay for the expansion pack right away, even pre-order a physical copy of it. I would still be disappointed with ANet, and this is coming from someone who played GW1 for 5 years (I still play) and has been an ANet fanboy for quite a while.
tl;dr – why are expansions being made when it was clearly stated that gw2 would see no x-packs? why will we have to pay for the content when the agreement was that we wouldn’t have to pay for content in the future, after the game release?
