Gluttony.2017

The thing is, doing the event takes arguably more teamwork and definitely more time then Tequatl, and holy crap, the amount of loot you get from a successful Tequatl fight is at least twice as much, so the effort > reward for sw.
As it stands now running around the map while occasionally helping a fort here, escort a bull there, kill that plant somewhere… it’s just more profitable and a better reward then successfully completing the breach. And with less and less people doing that, the lower the reward becomes because not enough shovels are around and from then its just a downwards spiral.

edit: inb4 anet nerfs fixes Tequatl loot.

Player Base: male and female ratio?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Gluttony.2017

There are quiet a few female players, however they dont run around and yell “im a gurl, gimme attention and free items”.. with the exception of a few. Most usually dont mention their gender and just play the game. So overall id say the ratio would be something like 3:2 (60% male, 40% female).
Also, im a guy.

philosophy on raids?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Gluttony.2017

Gluttony.2017

For raids to be succesfull and be anti-zerg they would have to make them difficult, meaning that the majority will QQ because everything that involves strategy or listening is to complicated, thus having to be nerfed to a point were a mindless AI zerg could do it aswell as a group of players.
So, if they introduce a raid that is not pug-able the amount of QQ would be bigger then when Asc. gear was introduced, and if it is pug-able you might as well go do the dragons.
Anet should rather focus on releasing some more quaggan items, that seems more appealing to the majority of the player-base + allows them to milk out some more cash.

if it was a downstate vs. downstate situation necros would have the best “duelling” downstate simply cos of the life syphoning that allows them to outlast other classes (except guardian maybe) but thats about it. our fear is pretty weak and i cant remember a situation where it ever saved my life.

Guess what changes necro will get with patch

Gluttony.2017

I would guess nothing….

I don’t think the devs play, or care, about necros at all.

When they infracted Ruufio for asking a question about shroudstomping, when they asked for people to ask questions, I gave up on caring.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Developer-Livestream-Questions/first#post1228926

Pretty much this. I also saw it and ever since then I only ever feel like trolling the “should i play necro” threads instead of ignoring them or overing advice/my opinion on it.
So what I expect for this patch? AoE (staff, wells, epidemic) get hit by the nerf bat, but we will get a DS UI (they said that they would rework the ingame UI so if they dont add a DS UI im rerolling guardian). Maybe fix minion pathing by a little bit. Maybe buff axe, but not in damage but probably by adding some useless utility (2 causes a 2 sec poisining and 3 also syphons life or some useless stuff that noone would care about) that sort of stuff.

sounds to me like you are hitting the elite button twice so you enter it and instantly exit it. yeah i was wondering if it was a bug or not, however materials do get send to the collection tab. (im using the green boxes, uncommen/mastercraft?)But the compact does not work. Still, even if its intended: 20 slot bags that usually would normaly cost 20g + and you can literally get 3-4 of them just by getting to fractals lv. 13 so im not complaining.

Sure, but only if they also reduce the direct damage of atleast 50% against earth elementals, give fire elementals a burn aura that burns anyone that gets to close, and eletric sparks damage anyone that hits them with swords etc. everyone that hits a risen with a melee weapon gets poisend, getting bitten by a wolf should also give a 24h condition called “rabis” etc. etc. etc.
Also, nerf condition damage even more? its already pretty bad considering there is a 25stack cap and conditions cant crit. might aswell quit playing necros if suddenly half the mobs are imune to our abilities.

Posters vs. Players

Gluttony.2017

Well, lets put it this way: 3.000.000/49 (amount of servers. 24 NA servers, 27 european) is about 61.000 players per server. Thats a small town! So, these 61.000 players might only go online for about 1-2 hours a day, some 3-4hours, and some 5hours +. and some might not even log in at all cos they are to bussy/dont want to play gw2 that day. So overall I’d say you wouldnt see more then 5.000 players on that server online (maybe more during prime time) of which most are probably spread out all over the world of tyria. Which in total has 26 regions. 5.000/26 = 160~ of which id asume a fair share is not in there but in WvWvW or doing dungeons.
Then we have the problem that the render distance for friendly players is incredibly low, you have to run into them before you even see them. And overflow servers that split the population of a server even more.
Having everything taken into consideration the averages arent even reliable cos they are based on a guess and server population might be different (with some servers being more popular then others) so yeah, this could explain why everything feels dead.

The Tale of Two Jewellry Recipes...

Why are people even comparing this recipe with others claiming they work the exact same way?

Because the only difference, from a high-level perspective, is the profit margin.

Selective reading eh? How about you quote the part where one recipe creates something from nothing which the other one doesnt? Oh wait, we are trying to make it look like people that exploited are innocent, i forgot.

Gluttony the recipe does not create something from nothing at all, both the examples used in my original post require a constant input of new materials for each and every craft.

The difference is in quantity and cost ( cost being decided by a open market that adjusts to suplly and demand )

Its a fallacy that people seem to be determined to propagate that this allowed creation of these items forever without any input materials.

No they didnt. You did not recieve the major ingredient (the 15 bones) back. Never. Not under any circumstance. There is not even a 1% chance of that happening.
And here we have a recipe that has a 80% chance of returning the major ingredient (the brilliant snowflake). You see the difference? the recipes are nothing alike. You can re-use the brilliant snowflake 4-5 times, heck you could have re-used it 10000x if you have enough black lion salvage kits and the only cost invovled would have been the mitrhril and salvage kit. So, tell me how the recipes are even similar in return salvage value?

Why are people even comparing this recipe with others claiming they work the exact same way? If you craft your shoulder pieces, when you salavge them is there a 80% chance that you get the 15 bones back? NO. You lose the 15 bones, they are gone. And everytime you make another shoulder piece you need another 15 bones. The best you can hope for is an ecto and some silk scraps but that is it.
When you craft the snowflake one, you create the ring. And when you salavge it there is a 80% chance of getting the brilliant snowflake back AND you get the chance at getting an ecto. If you get brilliant snowflake back and get even one ecto you created something out of nothing, which is impossible to happen with the shoulder recipe.
Its like salvaging an old car, and suddenly you take out the motor, dig around some more and suddenly pull another half out of a motor out of the car, even though the car only had one motor to begin with. it doesnt make sense and its obvious to anyone who ever did any form of jewlcrafting that this is not how it works.
And anet did say that it was an exploit in another thread called “how to turn 1 ecto into a stack of ectos” or something along that line, but people obviously ignore that.
I will edit this post in a minute or two, brb digging trough the forums and trying to find the thread.

An open discussion about fair punishment

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Gluttony.2017

Gluttony.2017

The main problem I believe is the attitute of other people regarding punishment. No one likes to be punished, and before they would even consider admitting that maybe they screwed up, they rather point at other people and feign ignorance.

Therefore I believe that even if monthly bans would be introduced we still would have the exact same reactions as now, and instead of talking about perm. bans being to harsh we would be talking about monthly bans being to harsh. In the end, people are mostly used to systems like in WoW, were being caught exploiting would at best get your account roled back, but that is it.

However, I do agree that punishments should be lowerd to 2 strikes and you are out. Most of the player base I’d asume is below the age of 18 (and I doubt they visit the forums that often) and I bet there is a fair share of fairly young people that only heard about “that money making trick” and used it and ended up being banned. So, instead I would just have a notification pop up that pretty much states “look you did this, its a bug. you got a strike and we removed the gold. the strike will be removed in a month or two, but if you get caught again it can result in a perm. account ban”.
Guilable people exist, however there are also people that try to pretend to be foolish to get out of bans, so I’d just say: give them a 2nd chance but still be strict about it. No unbanning or removing of strikes untill the time is up. Thats my 2 cents.

, I thought the following: [b]"ANet is intentionally trying to drive down the price of ecto because it is getting out of control

It made perfect sense to me that they did this intentionally.

It had become no more profitable than crafting level 75 rare tailor items to salvage for ectoplasm, which told me that it was totally legitimate and that ANet decided post mortem that “ehh, maybe we went a bit too far”.

This was market stabilized in less than 24 hours.

While the market for this one item stabilized…it messed up everything else that involved mithril, snowflakes, and even ectos. I find it hard to believe that they would mess up so many markets for one. It’s basically like believing that taking one step forward then taking three steps back will result in progression.

The price of mithril would have gone back down, as the price of the snowflake would have stabilized to “ecto-like” levels, like all other “ecto-producing” recipes.

What about all the other items? The ripples from this one item were not so limited.

What other item? Mithril? It would have gone back down as people would unload their stock, and when snowflakes would have reached equilibrium, mithril would have gone back down as less people would craft the rings.

If you mean other “ecto producing” recipes, they are tied to the price of ectos, as all ecto producing recipes. For example, the godskull weapons and the “large skulls” on the TP, they are very close to the price of ectos cause they can salvage to ectos.

Difference is though, when you salavge a godskull you dont get all the skulls back, only 80-100% at getting one back. For the rings on the other hand you had a 80%-100% chance at getting the jewel back. You didnt have to buy a new flake and ecto every single time you made a ring. only 1/5 times and thats why it is an exploit compared to the godskull weapon. If you would only need one skull to make the weapon it would have indeed been an exploit, but you needed 3, so you would always loose at least 2 skulls, thus it was balanced.
Hope that makes sense…

“2. It’s not like stealing from the store. It’s more like that time I saw a pack of cheese for 1 euro and took 5 even though I knew that pack was way too cheap. When I got the the register, they wanted to charge me 3 euro/pack. I refused and pointed at the label. What do you think happened?
a) they banned me from the store for trying to exploit
b) they apologised for their mistake and I got the 5 packs for 1 euro per
Hint: It wasn’t a.”

Great, you only bought 5! Imagine you would have walked up there and said “hey, i want 500 of those!” and then stood infront of the store, selling the cheese for 2 euro each. Its either highly unlikley to happen, and if it does happen its illegal.

for number 3) Anet did the same for the karma exploit guys, were some people were let of the hook if they apologized and destroyed all profit/weapons. Im assuming that they said “screw it, if people want to exploit we show them what happens, off with the kid gloves”.
Ill give you number 4. Still doesnt excuse it though. two wrong doesnt make a right. Although I would like to see the guy who screwed up getting a pay cut/serious scolding. or atleast a public apology.
5. Is a totally different scenario. In the one we are talking about ectos were made out of nothing. In your example, killing the boss trough an exploit or something along that line doesnt mean you suddenly get better loot, and even with skipping/exploiting it would still take 10-15minutes to do, unlike the crafting exploit that allowed you to make a dozen ectos in less then 2 minutes…

Moving onto another post:
“the message sent by ANet is “You made profit from salvaging a crafting item, therefore it is a exploit.”” yes that was totally anets intention. Couldnt possibly be that they are trying to say “if its to good to be true and only avaialbe under certain circumstances that apply to nothing else, thus allowing you to create a huge profit out of next to nothing then its most likley an exploit and should be avoided”.

People really love to over-dramatize things to make it look one party is inocent…

That’s what makes this ban absolutely hilarious. They lowered the mats because people complained and anet agreed that they felt the mats were too much and because the mats were so cheap due to an over saturation of them on the market, people were able to turn a profit and by the time it got circulated, the market already stabilized and the items rose in price and yet anet felt the need to hotfix the “problem”

Indeed they said that. And then they made it so that bags now have a chance to drop 2x powerful blood and other t6 items, which made the prices go from 20s~ ea to 12s~ ea.
However, I cannot remember them saying at any point that they would adjust crafting recipes to increase the amount of ectos. Maybe you could provide me with a link to where they made that claim?
And if they indeed said that (which i highly doubt) why make it so that only jewlcrafter benefit from it and no other profession?

It was exploited to the point where the prices went so low that it wasn’t profitable anymore, and because of that it suddenly isn’t an exploit anymore??? People read the forums/reddit, learned about this exploit and abused it. It was not an accident where they did it once or twice but 100x of times. heck, people that have 400 jewlcrafting should know that an exotic/rare recipe needs either 3 or 5 exquisit jewls so they cant even say “but i didnt know”. Overall, people that didnt learn from the whole karma vendor bug kinda deserve to get banned, just for the amount of…. not sure if its greed, stupidity or arrogance. Probably a mixture of all 3.
Also, those that got banned and now claim they only did it once or twice… I call bullkitten. They are the same people during the karma vendor bug that claimed they only did it once or twice untill a dev came in and said “yo we only banned those that did it 60x +”

The daunting grind of GW2

in Suggestions

Posted by: Gluttony.2017

Gluttony.2017

Having played silkroad with its awesome “you killed 1500 of that? now go and kill another 1500!” I have to say that grind is something repetative you have to do in order to achieve sometihng or to progress. In that point, gw 2 barley has any grind, but when it comes to legendaries it seems that the devs. suddleny did a turn around. Yes, farming dungeons is not a grind. But then again I can honestly say that I’ve yet to farm any dungeon regulary and that I take a break from this game once every month for a week or so. However, making loot drops such as loadstones a requirment, and setting this requirment at 100+ really is just bad design. Why would it be wrong to simply let those loadstones only drop off bosses and then set the requirment to 10 or 20? (thats the amount of time I believe you can repeat something before it starts feeling like a grind) instead of making them an extremly rare drop. . .
And I agree with you, they should add some story to the legendaries to give them some personality except the “man, i grinded area x for mat x 100 hours a week and finally it paid off” and 2 weeks later “oh man, why didnt I just sell mat x and bought weapon y instead ._.”

Making Legendaries more "legendary"

in Suggestions

Posted by: Gluttony.2017

Gluttony.2017

Personally, I feel that legendaries don’t exactly feel like legendaries and more like a test to see who manages to grind long enough to finally see the end. Sure, the skins are uniqe and some are even awesome, but the most important part of acquiring those skins should be the fun and that each legendary should have its own story.
With that being said, I think another requirment to achieve the legendary should be added, namly the “core” or “essence” part of it. This core or essence should be something truly uniqe, something that could normaly be never found like…. a bone piece from an elder dragon maybe? Or a piece of bark from the nightmare tree? There are a few of such very unique materials scatterd around Tyria, perhabs even some that have yet to be discoverd.
Ofcourse such things would be guarded by strange creatures, some may be peaceful, just guarding the object, making sure it never sees the light of the day again or doesnt fall in the wrong hands. However, there are others striving to gain said objects for themselves aswell. . .

So, how I believe it should work.
Upon reaching lv. 80 and finishing the main story line, the player now can talk to a craftsman of their choice who then will tell you to that a hero such as yourself needs an equally heroic weapon. So he goes on and on about how special that weapon should be and tells you to start searching for information about where some of these materials might exist.
Anyway, the whole thing leads to a scavenger hunt with an epic boss fight at the end that takes some serious skill to defeat.
In my opinion this would be:
- fun
- would expand the lore, maybe even tie down some loose ends (what happend to zaithans corpse, cant let that just lying around… etc.)
- add more to a legendary then just grind.
- give the possiblity that maybe Thraherne dies when following you on your quest.
- add new dungeons? or at least a new dungeon mode.
- generally more content.
and uhm. maybe some other stuff I cant think of at the moment.
Ofcourse obtaining the precursor and gifts should still be a necessity.
Anyway, your thoughts?

blackmail them into sending you 40s ea. or otherwise you will leave the dungeon. the only logical way. afterall, why do something for free if you can get money for it? And if they dont pay up you leave. And they only have to blame anet for making such an awesome design
Just kidding, stay in the group and in the meantime do something different, or take a short break and stretch your legs.
Unless however the group is being a female dog about it, in this case demand money or leave the group. No favours or nice guy for donkey holes.

Can we have an Aoe immoblize pls?

you can summon the wurm thingy ontop of things as long as it is in casting range, sadly however the teleport doesnt work if you do that. I think a lot of mesmer summons are on target summons, and ranger pets i dunno. never played one.

Back after a long hiatus, what's new?

I got buffed to 10% and actually work now.
And underwater combat got buffed, but pretty much every class got those buffs.
Uhm… signet of locust got buffed to 25% ms so its great if you just want to kitten around and not carry a warhorn around.
and Doom now does double damage if the target suffers from conditions, so fears can now tick for 1.5k~ damage. And thats pretty much the note-worthy stuff that got changed.

Well of Corruption has an added bonus
