First mesmer to beat me on that grats, I wont make excuses but most mesmers don’t. Just goes to show that it is still extremely OP yet they nerf warriors lol.

Claiming you are all that by playing an OP fotm though is hardly classy.

Edit: and yes warrior does take much more skill, it requires you actually be good. Not have a fotm crutch card. You should learn to read better, perhaps you can then try harder classes instead of bragging about abusing OP ones.

Gods Knight.4936

Alright, I am pretty new to this game, but I’ve been working hard to get to a high level and just recently I did. When I looked at the boss fights for Guild Wars 2 I was stunned; the enormous enemies, the teamwork, etc. Although the one boss that stuck out for me was Tequatl. The cinematic of him jumping out of the water onto that hill was breathtaking for me and the fight itself just pumped me up even more. All the time while I was leveling up I thought in the back of my mind “x more levels until Tequatl”. Then ANet released the Tequatl Rising update. I didn’t think much of it because I was only level 30 at the time, but I recently reached level 65 and holy crap was I excited. I went to Sparkfly Fen, fought through the hordes of risen and sat at the waypoint right next to the battlefield I recognized instantly. I waited for a while until the event popped up and with wide eyes I watched the beast rise out of the water just like in the videos and what do you know?… No one… was there…. I quickly searched forums, Youtube, etc. and everyone said the same thing. “Tequatl isn’t worth it anymore and his popularity is quickly declining.”

Ya know ArenaNet, I applaud you for making such an incredible MMO. The gameplay is exquisite, the stories are compelling, the graphics are stupendous, and it’s just a great new way to play a game. But I think you went the wrong direction with Tequatl. Now before anyone says “I like Tequatl on hard mode”, “TTS is a guild that’s just for fighting him, join that”, just look at the boss’ popularity. IT HAS PLUMMETED. Absolutely no one fights him anymore, and yes, I know, I’ve gone through all the servers and Tequatl will just stand there in the distance behind his huge wall while nobody even dares to go near him. This. Is. A. Problem.

Difficulty in games is just fine, when it’s fair and people enjoy it. The problem is the difficulty came without either of those two things. ArenaNet, you’ve done great up to here, but I think you went a little bit overboard with this. When you bump up the difficulty like that you outsource nearly all casual gamers, the only ones that are left are the hardcore and the noobs. Nobody likes to go into a fight when they know they have no chance, people can barely knock down Tequatl’s health to 75%! Look, all I’m trying to say is that you’ve done great so far ArenaNet, and this was a step in the right direction, but maybe a bit too big of a step. Please, lower the difficulty some, for all of us casuals, for all of us low populated servers, for everyone who just wants to have a little bit of fun.

I typed “Teq not worth doing anymore” in google and got this post at the top, very well said! Anet has difficulty grasping reward vs difficulty/time paradigm it shows in OP classes like mesmer/necro and in their events/dungeons.

They have many things that are either mind numbingly trivial or just ridiculously hard. I hope it evens out soon, they seem to be really slow in fixing things that are really important.

Jewel Crafting to 500

in Suggestions

Posted by: Gods Knight.4936

Gods Knight.4936

Make the Jeweler the one craft that can get to 500 and not actually make ascended items like rings and such since anet already screwed them out of being able to do that anyway. Let them be the ones who can refine the mats and those mats refined by a Jeweler will be able to be sold on the TP. Not only being able to refine mats to higher states but break down rings from drops into ready to use mats.
Yes this is a good compensation for not letting the Jeweler do what he was supposed to do anyway.

They can easily just take all the rings and junk away from vendors and add them to the JC update. Not hard. Everything else you suggest is good too.

Why warriors are nerfed to dirt in MMORPGs

Anyone who thinks warriors are or ever have been a viable threat are just bad. That’s the point.

Aside from the fail trolls that posted here, those of you who find it hard to beat a warrior are just plain horrible.

Warrior is the only class I can solo in my support shout build. They fail at everything even WvW. PvE they are decent if the boss stands still.

I think most of the replies here indicate why GW2 has failed so miserably.

Why warriors are nerfed to dirt in MMORPGs

in WvW

Posted by: Gods Knight.4936

Gods Knight.4936

So I run a guardian in GW2 and been WvW since launch and rank 35 in arena.

Although I have played a warrior in rift and WoW something told me not to make warrior my main GW2 and boy did I dodge a bullet!

That’s right, whoever makes the dev decisions about warriors in GW2 has succumbed to the age old mistake of listening to the whiners instead of looking at classes objectively.

From the perspective of a middle of the road class I can tell you that warriors have NEVER been a threat. I died ONCE in all of my sPvP to a warrior and that was bc I wasn’t paying attention and pooped my stability to soon. Now as I understand it they were nerfed for some some reason.

Considering how there are three classes that have always been MUCH more overpowered than warrior (Mesmer (insane OP), Necro, Thief)) I wondered why on earth they did this. Even a well played engineer is better than a warrior when they were supposedly OP.

I have come to the conclusion that devs are just so out of touch with classes that they come to wildly inaccurate conclusions and delusions about “class balance” based on a few whiners who just see a warrior going all hundred blades on them and they scream for warrior blood ignoring the fact that they could literally “S” key out of it.

In conclusion, Anet stop listening to the loudest whiny babies and listen to educated well rounded players who are experienced in all classes and are actually good at the game. Stop trying to balance bad skill.

Can Guild Wars 2 be considered Pay-to-Win?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Gods Knight.4936

I’ve seen the term thrown around a fair bit on this forum and it confuses me. I don’t see and have never seen any items in the gem store that will give me an edge when competing against the game’s PvE or PvP content.

The popular argument seems to be that cosmetics are the endgame and thus the ability to purchase some cosmetic items is an example of P2W. This strikes me as asinine. A player can be just as good at the game than another player who’s decked in the flamekissed armour or the Grenth hood, etc. Cosmetics have no bearing on skill or your capability to complete the game’s content. I’ve bought a couple of cosmetic items from the gem store in the past but they in no way allowed me to finish a dungeon or participate in WvW any more effectively than someone who hasn’t invested a penny in gems; a currency that may be bought with in-game gold.

To those of you that consider Guild Wars 2 to be pay-to-win, what has made you feel this way and what would you like to see change?

Yes it is about 7 out of 10 on the pay to win scale.

CDI- Character Progression- Vertical

Who’s gonna experiment with new builds if it requires gear changes after all the work put into acquiring Ascended armor? Every profession forum has a thread discussing which 1 stat set to craft for Ascended because very very very few people will have multiple sets. It’s just too much work. Ascended gear is restricting build variety and forcing the grind.

Personally, I do not intend to get it any time soon. I’ll play as I like and if one day I amass enough materials, sure I’ll make some.

I was with you up until this statement. Experiment with BiS gear rofl. You don’t experiment with ascended you experiment with exos then salvage them.

CDI- Character Progression- Vertical

Part 1:
For starters the game is ridiculously easy to earn these currencies. They are ridiculously easy to farm to. So they dont challenge the players at all. I feel that since they are not challenging and they are earned everywhere players do not feel as satisfied when the earn them. This combined with the fact that there is no good drains except for crafting means that players can easily obtain stockpiles of them causing future content that involves them be meaningless.
On the concept of dungeon tokens, I feel one of the main reasons most of these aren’t satisfying is because theres also an exploit or a path thats insanely easy to do and people just farm that. In my years of playing MMOs I find that players feel most rewarded when they’re given something that shows they’re better or more dedicated at the game then other people. So with these dungeons if there is even one path that is “farmable” it ruins the entire dungeon sets image.
Now lets look at why current outlets of progression aren’t living up to what the game is supposed to be.
Guild Wars 2 was sold on NOT being a grind. In a dev post from a long time ago they said it themselves that Gw1 rewarded players on collection, and they didn’t want to do that. Despite this, they did. Ascended gear is a great example.

Well thought out but you make one huge mistake that everyone keeps making. I didn’t buy the game because it was sold as “no grind” in fact I never even knew that. Had I known that I may not have bought it because that translates into “no progression or end game”.

The game is way to easy and trivial plain and simple.

After more than a year of GW2...

Gods Knight.4936

Pay 2 Win to me is only something that you can obtain with Real Money, and not via any other methods. Since all the stuff you can get for by buying Gems you can also get via Gold2Gems without paying a penny it’s not Pay 2 Win, it’s more like Pay For Convenience.

That, and the fact it is a skill based game, GW2 to me is not Pay 2 Win. I think people are misunderstanding the term P2W. But hey, that’s just my opinion.

This is false. There are plenty of things you buy with money that you can’t get in game. Also you can buy levels and components for the best gear in game that you would otherwise have to grind. That is P2W. The End.

Pay to win in the most common and less ethical example are:

1: the chance of getting advantage over other players

Examples like:
-the ability of upgrading your weapon (see infusion and extractor)*
-combat advantage over other players (revive orbs, repair canister, speed boost)
-and even the chance to get gold from real money in order to obtain the most powerful equip in game (gems to gold)

-?
-Does not work in the competitive settings (e.g. WvW and SPvP) and they’re not really combat advantages at all. They’re helpful to the entire team. P2W in the sense that you’re using it here isn’t at all how it’s intended to be used on the interwebz. If you’re helping EVERYONE by “paying to win” nobody is going to be upset that the game is pay 2 win.
-Exotics are easily obtainable after days, the gold required for certain ascended pieces is the EASY part. The gold does not matter much for the end game gear grind.

2 ability to raise a character via real moneys
-experience scrolls
-crafting boosters
-level scrolls

That’s not pay to win, and these are all found in game. Literally, I have dozens of boosters of all kinds just from playing the game, and “experience scrolls” (you mean skill point scrolls?) are now easily bought, just as level scrolls are (scrolls and tomes of knowledge, ftr).

Now if you can compare me famous free to play korean mmorpg with GW2…..

Ita has every single characteristic of a common F2p with P2W…..as you can read in many outdated reviews the ONLY difference is the access to gem with gold…

This is factually false. Korean virtually REQUIRE cash shop to level up. Take, for example, Rappelz. If you do not buy stamina savers, you’re literally going to take thousands of hours to even get close to max level. In GW2 it’s a VERY SLIGHT boost.

I like the way you think.

…It’s time for some criticism.

Fanboys will definitely chew me out for making this thread, so to mitigate some of your crying, let’s go over a few things: I am not criticising GW2’s integrity as a game. By itself, GW2 stands out as a gripping, engaging and solid action-adventure game. As an MMORPG that has to compete with several others for a playerbase that which the majority of refuses to play more than one MMORPG at a time… The cracks begin to show to aficionados of the MMO genre.

I was so excited for GW2 back when it was being teased.
Began playing on release back in 012 but have since been reduced to an occasional player. I log on once, maybe twice a week when friends invite me to do something.
GW2 had a lot of promise and it’s upsetting to admit that it was definitely over-hyped. Remember the “Manifesto” ? They acted like they were curing cancer when the result was really nothing special. It all sounded too good to be true – because it was. “Cause and effect. A single decision made by a player cascades out in a chain of events.” … Where exactly in the game does that happen again?

Let’s break it down.

Combat: Charlie-Foxtrot (look it up). Spamspamspamspam. Zergzergzergzerg. Where is the intelligent looking combat shown in the third quarter of the Manifesto video? I’ve never seen combat like THAT in the game and it all looks like in-game footage to me.
PVP: Goes hand-in-hand with combat, but still deserves its own section. sPVP is – again – Charlie-Foxtrot. Also terribly unbalanced. Some class/weapon combos are barely viable for it. Have you tried staff elementalist in pvp? wPVP is just shallow and determined by the server with a higher population. Not to mention 1v1s are competitively impossible which IMO is just unacceptable.

Classes: I love the GW2 classes. They’re all fun and interesting in their own right. Different weapons providing different skills & being able to mix&match weapons on certain classes is genius. That’s where all the good stuff ends. Here comes the rant:
Why the hell does every class need their own heal? Why is there no dedicated healer? Why does Anet see the holy trinity as evil? Yes it inherently came with its own problems but this solution only introduces more. What about people who enjoy playing healer classes? Every class is every role rolled into one, so nobody is really special. There was a certain satisfaction gained from knowing you filled a specific role needed to succeed, but that’s completely devoid in GW2. You’re just a number and you can easily be replaced.

Unfortunately, I can’t really get completely engrossed or committed to GW2 like other MMOs. I guess I just really expected GW2 to be the ultimate final frontier of MMORPGs but was disappointed to find a casual time-waster with no real PVP that caters to the occasional solo-player.

You can’t classify GW2 as an MMORPG, it’s just not. It wants to be and the parts they bothered implementing are amazing. GW2 COULD have been the best MMORPG of all times but they failed in three huge areas.

- No PvE end game. (and no grinding boring no challenge dungeons over and over and over is not end game. Undefeatable raid bosses are end game)

- No gear progression at launch.

- Pay to win.

Triple fail. They should have charged a sub and implemented good PvE content at launch. Yes not having the trinity was a huge mistake also. It’s like all these new fail games are trying to fix stuff that isn’t broken. One things for sure they won’t get any more of my money unless they do a huge overhaul of the game, not likely to happen.

Another great balance decision haha! I laugh at “stun” or “hammer” or “healing signet” warriors (or whatever people are calling OP at the moment) on my mesmer, engie, necro, and thief. Why continue this cycle in which the worst players advice is being used to “balance” the game? Hammer/longbow in the spvp/tpvp setting only is the only possibly “OP” warrior build, if other builds get messed up because of the changes I hope the warrior community raises hell otherwise this crazy cycle will never end. If you want to try an actually OP build try the healway engie or a prismatic understanding condition mesmer build; those are far worse in terms of balance.

Couldn’t have said it better. I have to feel for these guys as in my overplaying of s/tpvp I was smoked 1 time by the stun warrior and it was my own fault for not using my stability cd’s at the right time.

Every MMO makes this same mistake, using the whiny crybabies to set policy instead of looking at the big picture. Engineers for example are much more OP than any warrior combo as is Mesmer.

If I stand in front of you I bet you wont make 80%. The number of assists and recoveries needs to be reduced for the achievement by about 100 – 200. Please address this Anet as the fun is quickly going down hill as I try to get these last 2 slots filled.

Also realize there is a time limit for assist credit that starts from the time you throw it to your teammate until the time he turns it in. This may be the thing you guys are overlooking in your observations.

For example me and a teammate grabbed a barrel mid field and ran it all the way back to the boss passing it the whole time back and forth, she handed it in manually and I obtained 3 assists.

That said, the numbers still need to be reduced greatly for assists and recovers.

The only thing I agree with is the disappearing kegs from throwing to far is annoying. Everything else is just skill not an exploit.

Especially since the emote for the throw is so very obvious and all you have to do is stand in front of the guy to get the intercept.

The number of assists and recoveries just needs to be drastically reduced.
