Comparing anything in GW1 and 2 is like apples and oranges. They moved so far away from the first to make the second that they more or less cut out parts of the story so they could do their own thing (the gods departing, but now after years one pops up). That’s why it was set 250+years in the future…But you could rename all the skills so that they had nothing to do with GW1, and literally call this game anything else than Guild Wars 2 lol. Should they think about a Guild Wars 3, they might amalgamate more of the original story/concepts into it, because super duper lack of real content fashion wars 2 just doesn’t compare to anything else that was successful. Never had the success WoW garnered, or the love that GW1 got. I log in for the reward bonus though…

Lets be real here…After a while, all these arbitrary changes to one game mode just make it feel like a different game all together when you hit up the other. I mean, yes, you could literally name this game anything else other than Guild Wars 2, since it’s so far off from what the original was, but that need to kitten around with skills and be lazy about it, that still holds true. If you can’t balance out a skill for all modes of game play, there’s not point in making the changes in the first place. It will get to the point of GW1 though, I know it. I put in a few hours the other day just messing around, popped in for some ancient pvp, and it was like oops. This skill doesn’t do what it did in pve, like, at all, and that one’s cast time is so much more that there’s no point in taking it…Mark my words, it will end up like this here as well. Having to search around because there’s a pvp version, so you can figure out wtf is actually does and how to use it all over again. I mean not that I take great pains in getting into pvp anymore, but you keep alienating people like that, and the game will be so much less plug and play that it’ll end up like raids…Only a few will keep it going lol.

lol Well now. Happy birthday to the thing that would kill my interest in the game. I was in a solid guild for years, and when raiding was announced, I was semi hopeful about the greatness it was going to be. I mean, it was the greatest sight to see 40 of us, banding together to claim our guild hall. Felt good. Then the exclusion started.

Raids were 10 person instance, with apparently some real specific requirements in terms of class choices. Whether that was the raids fault or man made, I’m not sure. But I like many of the others wanted to raid, and people talked amongst themselves and 10 people were chosen for the very first raid group. I had no input on this, never had the chance to toss my name into the hat, was never asked about my raid experience in other games or my range of times that I could raid. I was cast aside just like everyone else.

We began asking when our turn would come, and it wasn’t until I’d say the release of the third boss when they started letting people trickle in just to try and clear VG. One night I had my opportunity. They needed a spot filled and I jumped at the chance. They asked what I would be playing. I said necro. They asked if I had a Rev. I said no, this necro is well geared enough (was about half and half for ascended at the time). They said oh no, we really need a rev. I said, if you needed a specific class, then why didn’t you ask for a specific class.

My interest sort of started to drop off at that point. It wasn’t until I voiced my opinion one too many times that people farming the first two bosses for weeks or months or whatever it was, could surely let others into their private club. Others felt the same way. It is frustrating when you see people that have only been there for a fraction of the time get all the opportunities, and that got the best of me, and I was told that I would no long be part of the guild, because as the guild leader said, he was tired of standing up for me. The problem was that he wasn’t standing up for anyone, except for himself, and nine others. I had been in talks with others and they either just stopped playing or kept playing but quit the guild. They were surprised when senior members could leave, and the leader didn’t care enough to ask them why.

I didn’t feel like starting over with a new guild, or pugging it. Never tried raiding, because it was the one thing they added to this game that you couldn’t just pick up and go with, or drop it and no one would have notice. The implemented a sub job, that killed the community I was in for years. One where every Friday or Saturday for years without fail, would get together, and do simple guild mission stuff, and have fun. Somewhere the devs felt they had to go out of their way to impress people that really didn’t need impressing. You knew what you were getting into if you played from release and stuck with it. There was no reason why they could instance a guild hall for 40 people to claim, but these raids had to be capped at 10…I mean, it happens all the time in open world. But it was easier to create content that alienated people for no reason.

Basically, if everyone showed up in healing power gear, or PVT that was level 80 rare+, then that content should have still been doable…No matter what class comp, or gear type. They gravitated away from dps/heal/tank so that could happen…But not for raids? The character with the most toughness that the boss goes for is a TANK. The aoe heals coming out of a healing power druid is from a HEALER. Anyway, hopefully in the next year they get it right, for everyone to play, without having to go through special groups/training…Just to do it would be nice. Step in, get my fill, step out, like it should have been. No favourites picked, no bad blood, and certainly non of this elitism, because really, remember what game you were pushing from the start.

If they let people keep access to it, then come this time next year what will those people want to do?

If memory serves, people had an occupy SAB thing going on around this time last year sooo, your point might be unfounded since there was no SAB last year…can’t even say it’ll be recurring after this.

People ask this every time it turns up, and every time they take it away again, i doubt this time will change anything..

Sorry to say.

Eh..Might point above sorta stands. Last year is evidence that they might not do it every year…So why not do the smart thing and make some bank on it…They put a good amount of real work into a gag…And it caught on. lol Bunch of downers can’t bring this idea down, but Anet can…and like you said, probably will.

To that end, they better get that money now because how many people will be around next April? No on can say, but if they keep on with the usual stuff, people will stop playing their game, and by proxy, stop buying gems which after the initial cost, is their only income (and some stuff in the store but I don’t bother with shirts/books/plushies lol). People will support what they love, and drop cash on it in support…you just have to beliiiiieeeeve!

…And I really fear that they are too short sighted to see it. SAB might have started out as some dumb April fools gag, but it as I’ve figured out, it has a following for a reason. Now here’s the sales pitch: After the festival is over, I doubt many will have collected all of the four weapon sets (blue, green, yellow, and not orange) from the two worlds, soooo, when this all ends, put a price on it…

Since there’s such a drought in content right now (pvp is a rage fest, wvw went cold, I haven’t done too many fractals after getting the last back, which leaves grinding AP really…bleh), don’t just put SAB away, but rather make it an account unlock that if we choose to, can pay gems for, just like the LS2 stuff if we missed it. I’d easily pay 1k gems for it, because 16 weapons for each color set, plus all the other cool stuff (mini moto/princess/blue back) is just too much to knock back in three weeks lol. Might get some people playing again that quit, and you might want to think about world 3/4. I don’t want to down play whatever is it you guys might have planned, but I doubt it’ll be to this degree that you currently have…Be smart…

Basically what I meant is that this new shortcut subverts the easy mode that once was. So me going pic for pic through the guide, and hitting that first push puzzle (18 on the guide) with many instadeath dart traps to get one bauble, and being my first go of it, many in game tables were flipped lol.

There is even talk of the bauble one for Z2 being impossible, since you can’t backtrack without infantile clouds… that are no-longer there.

I can confirm that you can still do everything (Baubles/Secrets/Become the master in infantile mode…The issue is it isn’t really infantile mode by the time you reach the first push puzzle, but rather normal mode stuff that they just seemed to now neglect lol. I mean, from the Dulfy guide they did at one time have rainbows that ran throughout the whole thing, but no longer from what I’ve seen. It’s kind of a moot point now seeing as I slogged my way through both the W1/2 metas for the past two days, but it’s more of a heads up for those still doing them that the guide Dulfy has shows things that aren’t there anymore.

lol I would totally rock “Legendary Salt Box” as a title. Titles for pvp, fine. The backs and associated achieves needed to get them….not so bright. I understand it was to bait people, but it baited the wrong types. For instance, I’m not good with every profession (the rage I got the other day for trying out a warrior…lawl), but I have to try, to get the 3 prof 7 win/ea. achieve, to get the gifts. I actively curse too, so being salty is very much a thing in S2 lol.

Greymantle.9168

Some classes cant fight on point like power rev and thief. For some reason a lot of people are incapable of understanding that.

I trust you are either condi necro, scrapper or trap dh

Anyone who is anyone plays condi necro, so that point is moot. I also play mes/druid a bit too…on point. See, I don’t know what classes you’re playing, but if you build it right (and that’s really where experience comes in), any class can fight on point. Just remember: A point you don’t cover, isn’t in contention. For some reason, a lot of people are incapable of understanding that…Play something that can hang, which coincidentally is everything. People just need to learn the class.

So what's the point of divisions if...

in PvP

Posted by: Greymantle.9168

Greymantle.9168

…they don’t actually divide people into groups. I’ve avoided the “buy and amber” thing last season and started this one out strong enough, amber to diamond wasn’t that hard at all. Playing in diamond is another story though.

I’ve gone through the +1/-1 stuff, furthest I’ve made it so far is only T2, but the quality of players is garbage. For instance, how can you go from amber to diamond and not know to fight on the points, that kills between points when you could be capping aren’t that great of an idea, people not knowing how to rotate off those points (yeah, there’s a third cap point /wink), and people that do not know how to pick up a target and focus it down?

This is the state of what I though was diamond until…I saw people 2-3 divisions lower than diamond in…my…group. I’ve solo queued into every match, so why would I want to get stuck with someone that just wants to play with their friends, who might not need to even be in my diamond division match. As far as I’m concerned, solo played should be grouped with other solo players. Suss out how you want to place duos with differing division levels, but keep that crap out of solo.

I feel that I should have just cheesed the system in S1 (I didn’t like the title name tbh lol) because the system is gimping me and others I’ve seen on here at this point…for playing legit lol. Yes, there’s a lot to consider in terms of team comp, amulet/rune/skill choices and do they know how to play that class (some are there only for a daily win with that class) and so forth, but from what it feels like, it’s a five player high school basketball team vs a few other high schoolers and the rest are juniors…who did you think was going to win? And if they really are remarkable at all, then what are they still doing still in sapphire/ruby for?!

Are raids good or bad for MMOs

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Greymantle.9168

Greymantle.9168

My personal experience with just the idea of raids was a guild community killer. It’s basically a job that was introduced where equally qualified people got chosen for, or not in many cases including mine. It eventually lead to people who had held the guild up for years prior to the raid release feeling alienated and and excluded, and when trying to point out the obvious down turn the guild was taking, I personally was met with “oh, you should just leave if you don’t like it here”, or “oh, you feel the guild is dying because long time players just vanished because of the drama…we don’t like that around here /gkick”.

It is hard to just leave something you help keep up for that long, hard to see people you get along with just leave because they aren’t seeing their due, and very hard to deal with people that all they see is their own progress, when it’s been a team effort the whole time leading up to it. And to give some idea of numbers we had claiming the guild hall, it was around 40-50…it was a lot for a semi small, close knit guild. By the time I was discarded (and that’s what it felt like), it was the one raid team of ten people, plus a few stringers that people from team one would help get through, so 20 at most, plus myself?

I don’t know though. To see guild participation and overall numbers drop like that, and for senior members just quit without the leader even noticing/caring (we didn’t have that many to begin with), I don’t see how raiding was good for the guild I was in. I mean, I still look for their tag when I’m out and about, but with the megaservers I might see one or two here and there.

So when guild halls were mentioned, as well as scribe, I got a little excited. That excitement died a bit when the idea of solo guilds were clearly not meant to be, since you need a group to claim a hall, and from there a guild to fund said hall’s expansion/decorations.

Sooooooo, why not make use of the silly stupid home instances? Have some dumbed down version of the scribe to set up something nice to look at. Most sticks in the mud would just tell you “oh, go play another game with housing”, and I have, but it’s an untapped resource that Anet could cash in on, not unlike other games selling decor items in their respective real money/ingame auction houses.

I’m sure the call is there, and the creativity level sure is, if you’ve seen some of these characters running around looking like spitting images of something else that we’ve all seen, so, what exactly was the use of the home instance (I mean, you guys did try to cash in on the home instance portal in the GS) if only to gather from nodes and forget about it until the next day lol.

So I’m not a huge fan of the current auto attack system, because I find it will stutter a bit, or stop completely. I’m also not a fan of mashing one key repeatedly. Soooo, maybe an option semi stolen from Wildstar (one of the few things I liked about the game) was the attack on held button option. Gives you the stop/go control, still keeps you involved, and it wasn’t a terrible idea lol.

So during the story, Rytlock finds a way out of the mists, learning some Ritualist-esk stuff to co-mingle with his warrior skills, and when asked what happened and how he can do what he does now, can only say hey, I found some stuff, made it work, I don’t have time to explain for all of the story, so don’t ask. So at some point, finds the time to pass that learning on without ever breaking the story flow, and that little Johnny, is how Revenants are born? Really? I feel like I either missed something, or this is some terrible retcon lol. I mean I could handle the idea of the Charr being a playable race…Love the fur balls. But for a new profession I would have expected a bit more of a back story because as of right now, unless I misunderstood, it goes that there were no Revenants, and now there are lol. I know each race has a starter story area to go do something, and then it’s business as usual. Maybe there should have been some explanatory level 1 instance, with Rytlock teaching the new class.

As the title asks, and from what I’ve seen which I will go into, in this now supposed to happen? I found this purely by chance and have been searching everywhere for info on it so here’s what I’ve found. At level 40 I changed to a condition set and stuck 20 of my points into Blood for Vampiric Master. Now for whatever reason I had a power staff on, looked at my minion damage, realised what I did and swapped it for a condition staff with no power and noticed that the minions base attack and special attack had changed. Here’s the before and after damage wise with 0/0/10/20/0:
Base +50 power staff (only thing with power on it)
Blood Fiend: 18 Blood Fiend: 21
Bone Minions: 12 special: 119 Bone Minions: 14 special: 138
Shadow Fiend: 24 special: 36 Shadow Fiend: 28 special: 48
Bone Fiend: 48 special: 60 Bone Fiend: 56 special: 70
Flesh Golem: 48 special 89 Flesh Golem: 55 special 104

I tested this out in Lions Arch and would love to see if this carries over at level 80.

Edit: It also seems to work at 80 at least in wvw with the same staff and items.

A lot of these answers are pretty much non answers, since they aren’t from any Anet source lol. But like it was said, if you can’t work it both ways it shouldn’t be in the game. Seems to me that you have all these people feeling like it’s the cat’s kitten when really they had nothing to do with it. I fondly remember seeing teams of human rangers running circles farming. You know what they were called boys and girls? Bots. In every game sure, but it sure hurt the little guy a year or so down the road. As it was stated above somewhere had I known it’d be like this, I would have hoarded gems like they were going out of style.

I supported the original Guild Wars games. Bought every one, plus the imp gem and the Grenth outfit. Cost about $15 in total both to look cool all the time, and to have a good function. GW2 stuff doesn’t seem like it’s worth real cash since costumes are on only half the time, so really why not have the option to pay half the cost lol. Don’t try to feel like a victim when you choose to spend real money. That is more facepalm worthy than the casual expecting the free trade option to be reasonable. Great you can buy gold without buying it illegally for your legendary/achievement, pay to win and all that, but it sure punishes the ones that’d like that new costume that only shows up if you’re out of combat lol.

Right now on Yaks bend, the 19 gold is equivalent to 268 gems. That’s not that great for a casual-esk player that doesn’t want to spend real money. I remember when it started out as about 20s for 100 gems. I also remember way way back when Anet had the power to re-regulate the prices of ectoplasm in the original Guild Wars game, so the question is will it ever be regulated, or at least capped. There’s some good stuff in there that I want right now if not sooner, but really it’s either grind a ton of gold, or spend $10 for 800 gems (or 7g10s for every 100 because it went up while typing this head shake) on one, count em, one item.
