I was feeling the same way, until someone showed me that I didn’t have to reclaim. Instead use the ley line organ #4 skill from a “safe spot” and let it complete its channeling. If you stand in the right spots, you can finish each heart with as few as two organs, regardless of what anyone else is going.

tl;dr I agree with the OP that the mechanic for reclaiming undermines ANet’s goal of cooperative PvE & I would like to see it changed. In the meantime, I use Transfer Magic.

This. Since Illconceived Was Na gave me that tip a couple of weeks ago when I posted a similar thread (thanks again for that!), this has been the only way I’ve done the Grenth renown heart. Stand within the circle of Champion wraiths, and you’re safe from interruptions during the channel. Also, reclaiming wraiths only works on living ones but not their corpses in my experience (in contrast to the Melandru heart and in spite of the description text for the Grenth heart).

As for Lyssa, I’ve never seen the place busy enough to run into this particular problem. But then, I generally just try to cleanse the fountain even while being attacked by an illusion. In my experience, the chance of getting dazed during the channel is low enough (and there are enough ley line scavengers around for the next try) that this is still a better strategy than the alternative of killing the illusions first and having someone else snatch the fountain away.

Re: Melandru – you can claim a corpse even when someone else has already claimed it. Still, I wish people would finally learn not to use knockbacks when someone has grouped up a bunch of mobs to AoE them down. :-(

I really like the salvage all option attached to the salvage kits.
This QoL update that was introduced a while ago is particularly helpful.
I noticed that there is a salvage all Fine or Lower, a salvage all Masterwork or lower, but on Rare, it just says salvage all Rare (no or lower option).
This seems a little illogical as if you were to commit to salvaging Fines, you wouldn’t want anything lower either.
I would even go one step further and add a fourth option to salvage all Exotic and lower.

(Corrections in italics are mine)
There is a good reason this works the way it does. The overwhelming majority of people seems to use Crude or Basic Salvage Kits or a Copper-Fed Salvage-o-Matic for all Masterwork or lower stuff, Mystic Salvage Kits (or a Silver-Fed Salvage-o-Matic) for Rare gear only, and Black Lion Salvage Kits (when they have them) for Exotic gear only. I can’t imagine that I’m in the minority for not wanting to waste Black Lion or Mystic Salvage Kits on cheap blue or green gear, so having the options the way they are, is precisely what’s needed.

Bandit Death Mark not dropping anymore?

Okay, I also discovered that chest running. I had to open like 150 purses to get some death marks.

Darn, I didn’t know they drop that rarely now.

Sorry for the mix-up with the Encoded Orders but I get – and delete – both regularly and their icons are rather similar.

It turns out that I get Bandit Death Marks semi-reliably in Bloodstone Fen of all places. I got some this weekend both from Justiciar Hablion and from one of the Jade Constructs during the hourly event chain.

Pretty sure, if you look at the wiki, they have to come from champ bandits and a few others? I don’t think they just drop from normal bandits.

They do. Good Lord, do they ever. Run around the northwestern half of Brisban Wildlands for more than two seconds, get accosted by the numerous bandits there, and you’re basically guaranteed a drop.

Positive

  • The map was beautiful.
  • The raptor mount was unexpectedly good – the animations and controls felt just right. I hadn’t missed mounts in GW2 so far, but I think I’ll love the new mounts in PoF.

Negative

  • Unidentified loot. What were you thinking?! The additional hassle (and cost) of having to do a Renown Heart and paying for each ID in no way offsets the savings in bag space. If anything, loot management should be less effort, not more. Also, this system works at direct cross-purposes to the existing inventory handling convenience feature (Copper-Fed Salvage-O-Matic) in that a salvage-all will unconditionally salvage unidentified loot, thus depriving the player of the potential rare and exotic drops.
  • The raptors could use an additional dye channel or two.
  • The raptors should not get stuck at stairs and inclines.
  • Dismounting from a mount to a glider in mid-air would be good.
  • The hearts were a bit grindy.

Unidentified gear - Please No, No, No, Nooooo

The unidentified gear system as it was in the demo is unacceptable.

Unidentified gear needs to at least be grouped by rarity. If this cannot be done, then the system should be scrapped altogether and loot should function as in HoT and core.

Also, if you’re gonna make me trek back to a heart NPC to identify gear, then identification better be free.

Or keep the total cost of identification as is, but allow us to identify from anywhere.

No amount of inventory slot saving is worth the hassle of the unidentified gear system as it was in the demo. The above requests are the absolute minimum to make the whole system acceptable to me.

Actually, Transfer Magic (skill #4) is far more efficient. If you stand at one of many ideal spots, you can complete the heart with as few as two Ley Organs.

Oh? I so far have only gotten minor progress out of that skill.

sigh It would be oh so very nice of ANET when introducing new skills, if their description could indicate whether or not one should keep the key pressed to channel it (very, very rare) or if a simple key press is enough (99.9% of skills in the game).

I only recently discovered that the Bloodstone Fen gliding skill Ride the Ley Line works by keeping the key pressed (because there is no in-game indication whatsoever that this is the case), and now I apparently learn that Transfer Magic works the same.

Thanks for the heads up, Illconceived Was Na!

“Kill unchained wraiths, use ley-line magic to reclaim their corpses, and channel magic to Grenth’s reliquary.”

The bolded part of the description is incorrect because using ley-line magic only works on “living” unchained wraiths, not their corpses.

And this is also where the potential for toxicity comes in: using ley-line magic on “living” unchained wraiths is the most effective way by far for a single player to advance their Renown Heart progress, but it only seems to work for one player per wraith. Contributing to a wraith kill gives considerably less Renown Heart progress per player but lets multiple players gain progress from a single wraith.

Thus, a single player trying to use ley-line magic on a wraith is in direct contention to one or more other players trying to kill the same wraith, since success for one party robs the other of any chance at progressing the Renown Heart from the wraith under contention. Add a somewhat low respawn rate for unchained wraiths especially when there are more than 2 or 3 players in the area, and the Grenth’s Reliquary Renown Heart becomes a place where I definitely do not look forward to seeing a lot of players nearby because the Heart then takes way longer to complete.

I’d very much like to see this fixed at some point.

Not So Secret is way harder than Chalice of Tears.

Speak for yourself, please. While Not So Secret is indeed one of the longest and hardest JPs in the game, I found it nowhere near as frustrating as Chalice of Tears (or Skipping Stones, for that matter – the only JP that I used a friendly Mesmer’s Portal to finish).

I’d give Chalice of Tears another shot (despite the stupid terrain games where you’re never quite sure which of half a dozen similarly angled surfaces of any given piece of rock along the way is actually safe to stand on and which you’ll fall down from) if
1) the buff from the checkpoints is made visible so we can be sure that the checkpoints got activated and
2) the buff from the checkpoints persists across server instances (e.g. when a map closes)
Failing that, though, I refuse to touch that thing ever again.

Please remove the obnoxious confirmation popup from the Gleam of Sentience. None of the Sentient ascended material eaters have this, and there is absolutely no reason whatsoever for the game to ask me every time if I am really sure that I want Gleam of Sentience to consume 50 units of some of the most widely available materials in the game.

Besides, the message as worded makes no sense. “You can only buy six of those each day. Are you sure you want to do this now?” What, for the love of all that’s good and holy has the one to do with the other? The limitation isn’t buying too many fluctuating masses, the real limitation is not getting rid of the ore, fragments and dust quickly enough before it piles up, and the stupid popup significantly impedes my efforts in doing so.

Would be nice if the map closure timer persisted above the mini map so that we can know for sure if a map is still going to be closed and what sort of time we have before it does.

As I understand it, once that map closure timer pops up, that instance is doomed and there’s no keeping it alive. That the timer has the unfortunate tendency to randomly vanish is nonetheless a bug that needs fixing.

Second issue is the losing of the checkpoint progress… that really stung. I realise the reason they are needed is so you can’t just skip the whole thing (unless you have some really awesome mesmers) so my suggestion would be if there was some way to remember the checkpoints had been reached like how the game remembers if you did daily things that day

Since the Silverwastes JP does something like this with a timed character buff, I can only conclude that the way this works for the Chalice of Tears is deliberate. Which is one of the reasons I refuse to do this JP: It’s hard enough as it is, having to fight game mechanics and losing all progress through no fault of mine whatsoever is really poor game design. Doubly so when it is intentional.

While those nodes generally reset with the daily reset, they have an additional cooldown if you last gathered them within, I think, 6 hours before the daily reset. This cooldown is somewhere in the 20 – 22 hour range, from what I’ve seen. The same is true of (rich) Orichalcum nodes, the floating Unbound Magic and a few other high-tier materials.

IMO, this cooldown should be shortened to no more than 18 hours.

Chances for this are higher when you enter a map after a world boss or after the end of a map meta event, but it can happen at any time.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Repeating-Reward-Tracks-Suggestion

Would love to see implemented in the next big QoL update. A simple checkbox next to the track would suffice! Please please!

This. I’m busy with a lot of stuff when doing WvW and so I often miss when a reward track finishes. And since I generally farm the same track repeatedly, this means that a lot of XP can go into a track that is of no interest or use to me before I get around to switching it back to the previous track. A simple checkbox to enable repeating the same track again would help tremendously.

Bring back The Festival of the Four Winds!

Festival of the Four Winds was good for two things.

  1. Sanctum Sprint – Currently available in the Activity rotation in Lion’s Arch.
  2. Traders – Shoveling tons of underpriced, vendor-trash goods for unique prizes.

Can we bring the second back?

Don’t get me wrong, that functionality was nice and I’m all for bringing it back. But I’m even more for bringing it back as part of a renewed Festival of the Four Winds because that map was gorgeous, had a lovely atmosphere with fun events and activities, and it did verticality right. I’m not sure how that latter part holds up now that we can glide, but that’s a different question.

So, I’d love to see the Labyrinthine Cliffs brought back as the location of a Four Winds style summer festival to bridge the large gap between SAB and Halloween.

In the September 2014 Feature Pack, they disabled all underwater content in the early parts of the starter zones (hence the empty lake in the southern part of Metrica Province- there used to be a heart there), they disabled gathering and removed all gathering nodes below level 10 or so. Given that especially Metrica Province was extremely busy in the early parts, there were probably other changes as well that I can’t remember.

Worst Guild Wars 2 Map?

1) Lake Doric. Man was I glad when I didn’t have to go there anymore. Unappealing map design, super annoying mobs, few rewards of interest to me (I don’t do minis).
2) Malchor’s Leap. I hate Orrian architecture, and the mobs are annoying.
3) Straits of Devastation. Orr, annoying mobs and lots and lots of water with no reason to go there. The only redeeming feature of all the water full of undead is that it leaves less room for Orrian ruins.
4) Tangled Depths. Beautiful design, hard to navigate, map is still insufficiently useful.
5) Edge of the Mists. I find the map very visually appealing. The navigation is what kills it for me (ledges/bridges to fall down from, with unclear 3-dimensional layout; waypoints in keeps are useless and there is no other way to get anywhere from spawn except to walk)

Honorable mention to Dragon’s Stand for the accessibility issues due to being tied to the meta event (the map is otherwise quite well designed IMO) and Lion’s Arch (long load times, lack of atmosphere compared to the original design).

Conversely, I love some of the maps others have mentioned here. Draconis Mons is super interesting and visually appealing (although I don’t go there anymore because the rewards don’t do it for me). Dry Top is one of my favourite maps, ever.

Winterberry Nodes won't reset

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Gudy.3607

There is an additional minimum-time elapsed for some open world chests & for the daily resource nodes named above. Specifically, at least 5-15 hours must pass between the last time the ‘node’ was used, even if the daily reset time has occurred before then.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Server_reset#Notes

The wiki is at least partially wrong here. In my experience, the cooldown for some of the nodes when gathered shortly before the daily reset is decidedly more than 15 hours (probably in the 18-24 hour range). Case in point: the unbound magic floating in the ley lines in Ember Bay had not respawned for me yesterday about 20 hours after the last daily reset. I had gathered them the day before somewhere between 4 and 2 hours before the reset.

Additions to Material Storage

If anything, I am looking for cuts to this list, not adds.

Common Crafting Materials
Core Refinements (new)
Fine Crafting Materials
Gemstones and Jewels
Cooking Staples (new)
Scribing Materials (new)

Those I all agree or have no opinion on.

Rare Crafting Materials
Bloodstone Shard
Elonian Wine
Brick of Clay
Eldritch Scoll
Icy Runestone
Legendary Insights
Mystic Binding Agents
Mystic Crystals
Mystic Forge Stone
Philosopher Stones

Stuff that can only be bought directly from a vendor like Miyani or the Dry Top Vendors should not go into Material Storage, in my opinion. This includes the Crafter’s Backpack Frame which is currently in Storage but should IMO be removed.

Fractal Research Pages
That one acts more like a currency than a crafting material. Shouldn’t it go to the Wallet?

Ascended Materials
Anthology of Heroes
Augur’s Stones
Mystic Runestone

See above for vendor-bought stuff.

I’d also like to see a cleanup of the Ascended Material tab, while you’re at it. The non-existent Xunlai Electrum Ingot makes me cry, and so does the total disorder of the ascended crafted materials. The obsidian-refined materials have a nice order with the raw drop (e.g. Bloodstone Dust) in the top row and the refined material (e.g. Bloodstone Brick) directly below it. Please reorder the crafted materials to follow this as well, as far as possible: Spool of Silk Weaving Thread in the top row with Bolt of Damask below, Spool of Thick Elonian Cord over Elonian Leather Square, Lump of Mithrillium over Deldrimor Steel Ingot, Glob of Elder Spirit Residue over Spiritwood Plank, Crystalline Ore over Crystalline Ingots.

I’d personally like to see the Shards (Shard of Friendship, Shard o’ War, Shard of Endeavor) removed as well, because they are only used for crafting exactly one Legendary each and have otherwise no use.

I only had to press F to loot the daily chests when Ignis died while I was still on my glider on the way back to the island. Otherwise, autoloot did the job, including the last time where the Element of Ignis was simply one of the things that dropped into my inventory when Ignis died.

Gudy.3607

If that is the case it provides another possible cause. If you are too far away when it dies then the item won’t be there because you were too far away for loot to drop.

I’m leaning towards this idea or something similar myself right now, although see below. I submitted a CS ticket slightly more than an hour ago, and anyone with any sense of irony can probably guess what happened next: I got into a map with a nicely advanced map event chain, killed Ignis again, and the Element of Ignis finally dropped.

To sum up:
1st kill: in the air on the way back to Ignis from Mariner’s Landing WP after having died. No Element of Ignis.
2nd kill: in the air on the way back to Ignis from Mariner’s Landing WP after having died. No Element of Ignis.
3rd kill: alive and on the island. No Element of Ignis.
4th kill: in downed state on the island, minimal event participation. No Element of Ignis.
5th kill: alive and on the island, Element of Ignis finally dropped.

So whatever caused this less than robust drop behaviour, at least I have the thing now and can farm for the remaining druid rune stones…

Element of Ignis Doesn't Drop

Gudy.3607

I hopped on the map last evening for a few minutes before heading off to bed, saw Ignis was up, flew there, died (because the client hadn’t loaded the corrupted fire texture yet and I landed in a huge patch of it), hurried back again because Ignis was almost dead, got a few hits in, got the daily chest and a small event reward (wiggly chest), but again no Element of Ignis.

Start the customer support ticket now. If you get the item, great — you can update the ticket to say the issue is resolved.

Good point, I plan on doing so tonight.

Is it possible that you missed looting the chest the first time you killed Ignis after being eligible for the drop? If so, the game’s reward mechanic might think you’ve gotten the drop (even though the collection doesn’t).

Possible (it was late and I was tired), but not super likely. But if so that would point towards the cause of the bug: the Element of Ignis should drop whenever the necessary conditions are met (the collection is unlocked, Element of Ignis is not yet part of the collection, the player got kill credit for Ignis at least for the first time that day), and not attempt to do so only for the first time these conditions are met, regardless of whether or not that attempt succeeds.

Other possibilities: you got it on a different character or you already converted it via druid stone. (I’m sure you’ve thought about both of those; it might be worth double-checking, if only because it doesn’t take long to do so.)

Never hurts to double-check the bleeding obvious, precisely because it is bleeding obvious. :-) But no, I can rule out both of these.

On a possibly related note, like this guy I have never seen anything in Hanjo’s third tab, regardless of which of the backpack collections was unlocked and which items of the current collection I had already acquired.

I have the “Henge Away From Home” collection unlocked, I participated in the “Defeat the destroyer lieutenant” event for Ignis enough to get both gold-level event credit and the daily chest, but I don’t receive an Element of Ignis when Ignis dies and I loot the chest. This has happened twice now. I have all other mob drops for this collection including the Element of Aestus.

As an additional point of interest, I was in the air back to the fight from the nearest waypoint both times (due to having died in the fight) at the moment that Ignis died.

As I understand it, the drop rate for this should be pretty much 100%, provided all necessary conditions (collection unlocked, daily chest) are met. Anyone else having that problem or an idea about what to do differently?

(I’ve already filed an in-game bug report. I’ll make a few more attempts until the weekend. If I keep on failing to get the Element of Ignis, I’ll contact customer support in a few days.)

So my strategy has been to do the hearts in a fixed order, so I can see from the map completion stats how many hearts I’ve done before, and therefor which hearts I still need to do.

How do you define fail?

I thought that was clear enough. The main problem people were complaining about was the extremely high price for hardened leather. Which, after a short dip, is back to climbing up again, from what I can see. Whether or not this actually means that the farm is a failure, as TorsoReaper says, is open for discussion, though. Maybe there aren’t really enough people who care about this (or making some gold) and hence farm the place, to make a dent in the price?

Pretty much this. The weapon master achievements only count direct killing blows, so anything that dies from a condition tick is ignored. The bazaar’s heart if probably the quickest to complete. Just fight the overzealous villagers. They give decent progression and you can usually complete the heart after maybe 7 of them. There also seems to be a bug where if you feed one of the seraph some corn outside the west gate when the bar is above 60%, the heart will instantly complete.

Be careful with this heart. When you feed a hungry seraph, they will take all your food from the fishing cages, both crawdads and fresh seafood (At least if you don’t have any corn on you. I’ve never tried it with corn, so I don’t know what happens if you do).

The pearl merchant is in the house south of the waypoint, by the way, and handing over your pearls advances the heart as well.

Maria, thank you SO MUCH for showing us that trick!

Seconded. I’d always thought that it was a shame you couldn’t just glide to that place, but I had missed the slightly higher spot you’ve pointed out there.

Copper ingots are only craftable by Jewelers and Scribes, AFAIK.

Maybe the thief is specced/geared for condition duration?

Isn’t the condition duration bonus capped at 100%? This would mean a maximum of 2 seconds per application, or 4 seconds total, not 8.

Until you have the Been there done that title once you get that exploring ends.

It’s OK to do map completion just for the heck of it even on your 9th character, and to still discover new things out in the open world that you hadn’t seen before.

What have you found that made you smile?

The discussion near Accountancy waypoint in Rata Sum that ends with the memorable “Well, then we all die, or we bow down to our new golem overlords.”

The discussion about golem parentage between a Sylvari and an Asura gate technician in the Grove.

Skritt Hit wintersday daily?

Can you post your experiences? Maybe like this:

  1. I can complete the activity in the festival area.
  2. I can complete the activity, but not in the festival area, only outside the festival area.
  3. I cannot complete the activity.

If you can complete the activity, do you make adjustments so such things as aiming and waiting until they are no longer invulnerable? (I confess to trying to smack them right away, and they really are invulnerable for a few seconds. )

I can complete the activity in the festival area, mostly by going for the gun-wielding skritt further away from the dolyak, aiming slightly behind them and hitting them a second or two after they appear (so their invulnerability wears off). It tends to take two escort events, which this late in the event season, takes too long for my tastes.

It’s just super frustrating for all the reasons already mentioned: conflict with the people kicking the skritt away, conflict with other players trying to do the achievement due to either getting hit with their snowballs or hitting them (instead of the skritt) with my snowballs. If there are too many people kicking skritt, the skritt go away too quickly. If there are too few, the event fails prematurely.

Due to problems with elevation differences, I tend to miss a lot when trying to hit the skritt at Arcallion Digs in Harathi Hinterlands, although they do work for me in general. So I go to Skritt Anchorage in Ember Bay instead. I find the Skritt Trainee NPCs there easiest and most reliable to hit.

What is irritating about the non-dolyak-event skritt at Arcallion Digs or Skritt Anchorage is that they don’t get knocked down when hit by a snowball, so the only indication of a succesful hit is the event tracker advancing.

LS3 Achievements not triggering?

What’s the status on this?

I finally started with LS3 a couple of weeks ago and accidentally got into the Unbound Guardian fight as one of the first things I did on that map (while still busy doing map completion). I got downed repeatedly but received both event credit and the rewards chest but NOT the achievement. Now, this is the last Out of the Shadows achievement that I’m missing (apart from a few hidden ones), but I’m loathe to go back to Bloodstone Fen on what looks to be more or less just an off chance that one of these times the achievement might randomly trigger for me.

Bug: Unable to equip mortar kit

While I had the Mortar get unequipped on my engineer after the update, I was able to re-equip it without problems, thankfully. But there are other weird things going on with the skills of other classes, too: My thief relearned all her staff skills today when I first swapped to that weapon, despite me having played her as a staff daredevil for months.
