I can change my skils

The workaround is to put the skill you want in the number 9 slot into one of the lower slots, which you can change, say the number 7 slot, then try to put the skill that is currently in the number 9 slot into the number 7 slot. This will cause the number 9 and 7 slots to switch places.

I also did some google search and found from the Wiki (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Toxic_Seedling) that they can be found in Queensdale, Kessex Hills, Gendarran Fields, Harathi Hinterlands, Caledon Forest, Metrica Province, Brisban Wildlands, Bloodtide Coast, Sparkfly Fen, Mount Maelstrom and Timberline Falls. So, they have apparently already spread and don’t need to thrive in a toxic environment.

That wiki information is almost certainly outdated and only refers to what happend during the Tower of Nightmare release. Despite having two characters with 100% map completion I’ve never found Toxic Seedlings outside the zones where the Toxic Offshoot events still happen (Caledon Forest, Brisban Wildlands, Queensdale, Kessex Hills and Gendarran Fields).

I think Tootsie has always scaled, although I can’t say that I have fought her frequently enough in the last days to have noticed anything different. I would remark, though, that Tootsie is a bit flaky and I have often seen her bug out in various ways – some of them benefitial (e.g. no more running away) some less so (e.g. chargeup uninterruptable). Maybe added toughness, an inflated hitpoint pool or invulnerability are also part of that flakiness?

Kessex Hills still has a toxin problem, so if the removal of the toxin takes place, that should make the debris easier to deal with. Just gotta figure out how to secure that area from bandits and centaurs, first.

Well, that would remove the last sources for Toxic Spore Samples from the game, so I really hope that it won’t happen, even if I think that the ruins of that tower are an eyesore.

Really?! It’s been weeks since I have seen a map where people consistently manage to get the bonus on that event. Largely because they seem to be more interested in fighting the inquest than in getting the shards into the basket and preventing the inquest from absconding with those shards…

So get out of the T5/T6 map you are on and find a T1 map instead. Grab a rock, position yourself between the main drop zone for shards and the inquest gate, and hit the first inquest with a shard that’s running your way.

The wiki says it’s a Gem Store item, so the answer is “depends on when, or if, ANet puts it back in the Gem Store”. Given their stated lack of short term plans for reintroducing the Super Adventure Box, which the super boom boxes are based on, I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Could be ANet price manipulation because they don’t like chests being super cheap. I can’t imagine anyone imagining 3m keys being actually used by anyone.

I find that unlikely. They are making money by selling keys, and they’re apparently going to nerf key farming with the feature patch, making keys even more the controlling ingredient. Cheap chests are a complete non-issue, from what I can see.

Not as an automatism, no. I can see where you’re coming from, but I do not care one little bit to be stuck in a Tier 1 map of Dry Top just so you can do Tequatl. The actual solution would be to remember which instance you were in for something like a few minutes and then ask you when you’re logging back in if you want to return to the same instance or go into a different one. Even better, give me the option of showing me a list of all available instances. Mark and pre-select the one I was in, otherwise pre-select the one the automatic megaserver allocation algorithm would pick, but ultimately let me choose myself.

I’m merely disputing your assertion that they are cheap and easy to harvest by pointing out that, from where I sit, they are neither. I am neither willing to shell out a major part of my wealth for them, nor am I willing to mindlessly grind wood nodes because I play GW2 to have fun, and grinding is not fun for me at all.

What I am, is perfectly willing to take my time to acquire those 48 Firefox Clusters, and however many more are needed for the upgrades to the backpiece, either by continuing to harvest wood at my convenience or by waiting until the price drops to the point where I find them affordable (which shouldn’t take all that long unless ArenaNet provides other sinks for them apart from a single backpiece), or a combination of those two.

You obviously have somewhat different ideas about “cheap” and “frequent” than I do. At prices of more than a gold each and reported drop rates varying between 1/50 and 1/35, I find Firefox Clusters neither cheap to buy nor easy to harvest. Since my hole wealth amounts to about 160 Gold, spending 48 for a new backpiece somehow doesn’t appeal. Neither does farming between 1700 and 2400 wood nodes, especially since I rather dislike Orr and tend to avoid the place whenever possible, thus limiting the number of places I could grind for wood, were I inclined to do so.

Foxfire Cluster drop rate

in Living World

Posted by: Gudy.3607

Gudy.3607

The drop rate is about 1/50. You need to cut about 3-3,5k logs to get all the foxfire you need for the back piece.

That’s… preposterous. Not to mention incredibly grindy. Especially since we have to assume that the upgrades to the backpiece that have been promised for future episodes will require even more Foxfire.

On the other hand, Foxfire has no use outside the single backpiece, at least so far. So increasing the drop rate would inevitably lead to people moaning about their inventories being filled with a useless resource.

The real lesson here is, of course, that adding drops for single-use materials is a thoroughly bad idea, because whatever the drop rate, you’re kittened if you do, and kittened if you don’t.

Actually, for once I’d love to see something other than bleeding for condi damage, because it’s already so ubiquitous. So maybe add Confusion (“you dare attack me?!”) from Hammer and Mace hits, or Torment (the rarest damaging condition) for intensity stacking, if you want to go that way.

Let's list the traits that we don't/never use

in Guardian

Posted by: Gudy.3607

Gudy.3607

Well, it’s not even that some of those skills are useless per se (although some others sure are!), it’s just that the opportunity cost for taking them is too high, or that the thing they’re improving – sometimes by quite a bit – is nearly useless to begin with: Spirit weapons are, IMO, too weak to even consider, despite the buffs they get being pretty good. I also generally like using signets, and their buffs are about what you’d expect, but the Guardian signets aren’t really grabbing my interest.

I’d totally love to take Amplified Wrath (Zeal XIII), but it would have to be in Radiance for that. Zeal doesn’t make a lick of sense for that trait. Similarly, I love the buffs that Supreme Justice (Virtues VIII) and Permeating Wrath (Virtues XI) give to the Virtue of Justice passive, but they’re, rather nonsensically, high up in the trait line that gives Virtue cooldown reduction (and otherwise buffs Virtue actives and Consecrations), while the buffs to the VoJ active are minors traits in Radiance?! Heck, put all three in the same trait line, say Radiance, and you’d have the beginnings of a pretty good power/condi hybrid. ;-)

Also fix the trait lines. For instance I don’t know why we have some useless traits hanging around in zeal and radiance line…..

Wouldn’t that be nice? The Valor and Honor lines kinda, sorta work, but Radiance, Zeal and Virtues all have some traits that made me scratch my head and go "What’s this doing here? Wouldn’t that trait be much more at home over there?

I’m not going to hold my breath, though, and in fact I expect it to be more along the lines of Trice’s post. :-P

Does tier 4 ever happen?

in Living World

Posted by: Gudy.3607

Gudy.3607

T4 is very easy to obtain. […] All it takes is someone posting the events happening in map chat a few minutes before they start, and making sure people are at each event. If you’re on a map that’s just zerging every event, they’re doing it wrong, and you’ll never get past T3.

Well, I wouldn’t call T4 “very easy to obtain”, because it isn’t. Otherwise we wouldn’t have this thread. But you’re right, the problem is easily solvable in just the way you describe.

Or would be if it didn’t require players to get out of the zerg mentality. Zerging in Dry Top is unhelpful at best and can easily fail events (like South Mine) due to scaling. As a rule of thumb, most events should probably have between 4 and 10 people, and more is counterproductive because those people would be more help by doing a different event instead. In my experience, here’s what it takes to do some of the events:
– Crystal shard race: 3 people at least, the bonus is easier to obtain with 6-10 people, two of whom should have short-cooldown knockbacks.
– Rescue captive zephyrites (south mine): 2 squads of 2-3 people each.
– Kite basket: 2 people, 3 may be easier for the bonus.
– Three-toed tootsie: 5-8 people, one of whom is the dedicated interrupter (off-hand pistol thief works well for this)
– Coloqual queen: 8-10 people
– Shut down inquest experimentation: 4-8 people
– Serene: 0 people :-P

Blindness ... why is there duration?

in Players Helping Players

Hmm, you need to actually hit something (except you miss, due to the blindness). Just activating an attack against thin air is not enough. Hence why I like to use environmental mobs for that – attacking them clears the condition without putting me into combat.

Gudy.3607

There have been a many complaints, in general, that there are ‘too many’ waypoints. For some it makes the game feel less immersive. For some it makes them feel like there isn’t a penalty for dying. Some feel that having so many waypoints is too much of a safety net and as such the game has no sense of ‘danger.’

I can’t argue about the immersion issue, but all the other things boil down to: "I don’t have the willpower to only use WPs in cities and major forts myself, so please punish me, and everyone else while you’re at it, by reducing WPs and forcing everyone else to play the way I want (but can’t bring myself to do on my own). Which, frankly, is bovine manure.

I don’t use WPs a lot, preferring to travel via the Mists, Asura Gates and walking. But I sure appreciate not having to hoof it across half a map because I misjudged a jump somewhere or got caught flat-footed in a fight. That said, there are areas in Tyria which have a LOT of WPs and which could do with a reduction, but a major reduction seems uncalled for.

A skill that teleports you directly to your opponent like “judges intervention” is useful against the hounds. I’m not sure about other classes or skills.

The Thief’s Steal was quite helpful, yes.
A tactic I employed when I found myself all alone in that fight, spending too much time dodging and too little time actually killing those wolves, let alone doing damage to the boss, was to wittle a hound down, get out, heal up, and let the minion die, then just wait for a new minion to spawn. Since the wolf from the previous minion is still alive, there is a good chance that there won’t be a new wolf spawned with the new minion, and instead the old wolf will attack the new minion. Now kill the wolf, accompany the minion, and when the shields are down give the boss a few good whacks. Sure, it about doubled the length of the fight compared to if I had been able to save every minion. But I at least was semi-reliably able to get every second minion to do its job, which was more than I did when I tried to save every one of them.

I am by no means an expert, but I’m not sure about celestial thieves (where the play styles between condi and zerker/backstab thieves seem to be rather different) or guardians (who seem to have poor condi access except for burning), but elementalists and engineers look like they should work. Both of those classes are kinda jack-of-all-trades with quick kit/attunement swaps, condition and direct damage on all kits, as well as access to both heals and regen (which latter seems to benefit most from healing power), so they should be able to get something out of all the attributes.

Waitaminute, they were supposed to help more throughout the fight than simply by spawning bone minions and shouting unhelpful tips?! And here I thought Kas just ran out of juice for her bubbles and the fight was hard simply because my squishy little thief can be two-shotted by those wolves and has insufficient condition cleansing to deal with the condi-spamming slime from the Thrasher boss…

sigh I meant that figuratively. The guy (and probably everyone else on the map) was spamming offensive skills at a rate far larger than picking up Grounded through defensive power-ups could hope to cope with, so I certainly felt harassed, although I was not, strictly speaking, harassed.

The take-away message here is that ‘clean’ racing can and does win, and spamming offensive skills has not, in my experience, been a solid way to win.

Sanctum Sprint

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Gudy.3607

Gudy.3607

You should use them, too, since that’s part of how you play and win.

I’ve run hundreds of races during the current Festival. I’ve won dozens of them, despite never having done this activity before. And I’m not claiming to be a god on the controls, far from it. The only offensive ability I use is the Fake Power-Up. Which is ridiculously overpowered, I admit, hence why I only use it in a select few places where people are unlikely to get knocked off the cliff.

Conversely, there has so far been exactly one instance of someone else winning the lead from me due to constant harrassment through offensive skills.

In short, I don’t play that way and still win. People who do play that way do not win due to playing that way nearly as much as you would have us believe. They do manage to annoy everyone else, though.

You can also avoid being stunned by picking up defensive items, which will often give you Grounded (which gives you stability).

You don’t get Grounded nearly enough to effectively counteract the map-wide offensive ability spam in the upper half of the race.

No rewards due to a late start——this can kick in even if there are only 15 points on the board / over 7 mins on the clock, and you just missed the start>>.

Yep, I can confirm this one. Conversely, you can get put at the start for a valid run with too little time to finish, which is equally useless and frustrating. The criterion here is apparently not the time left on the clock, as the wording implies, but probably the number of sprinters on the map – if the race is full (12 people, not counting you), you get the “no rewards due to late start” thing, otherwise you start from the, well… start.

Getting stuck inside the revolving gate—this happens if you hit the no1 jump skill when it rotates.

I’ve so far been able to wiggle out when it happens, but yeah.

After using light travel—if your try to use the no 3 skill to auto jump to a node, it doesn’t recognize the node and remains in manual target mode (not sure how common this one is—but just happened sooo)

Not sure about the causality or correlation here, but tethered jumps can indeed be unreliable – getting hit with several stuns in a row can trigger that problem as well.

Range on skills—900-1500—-yet everyone on the map takes damage when on of these little babes is triggered—-no matter the distance.

That is by design – the offensive skills apparently change to a map-wide version in the upper half of the race, which I find incredibly annoying.

Run ability—-you have to keep your finger constantly on the W button, as auto run freezes (again—been like this since it first came out)

I don’t use auto-run, so couldn’t comment on that.

Give reward based on how fast you finish.

Nah, we have Sanctum Sprint for that. I love the Flying Dolyak race – it’s whimsical and fun with very little pressure to be any good at it. :-)

I’d like to see two things changed, though. For one, like most here, I would like to be able to repeatedly run in the same race. Once you figure things out, you have plenty of time left to run a second or third time, and it’s frustrating to have to just stand there and hope for the best, instead of contributing more like you can with the crystal gathering event. I’ve so often had a race stuck in Silver with only a dozen more need for Gold…

Also, I’d like a way to heal Cripple on other players. Make it, say, a 1/2 second channel on a 6 second cooldown to avoid spamming. As fun as the Dolyak race is, there is nothing much about it that promotes community play. Being able to help other players would be a nice addition, I think.
