You can disagree all you want. LoL Dash removes Immobilized/Crippled/Chilled.
A pure 3/4 Evade, 8 seconds of Swiftness, & Damage Reduction for 4 seconds.
Not to mention the 450 movement….
Dodge is just 3/4 second Evade.
Nope, Nothing wrong with HoT and skill balancing in this game….Nothing at all.

Just shows how ridiculously broken Dash is as a mechanic…and mind, you I’ve been a thief since the pre-weekend.
The problem is that in order to stay near you, people have to blow all their utility, thereby leaving themselves essentially defenseless.
HoT vs Core is Pay to Win and as soon as Anet chose this as a business model, it’s been all downhill.
In all fairness though, the lack of a dual classing system was another terrible design choice that has led us to where we are…watered down cutter cooker builds that are akin to GW1’s “Load PvP Template”.
HoT was a death knell to build diversity. We don’t even have “fluxes” (a masterpiece tweak of protocol that at least added variation).
On a side note, I did see at least one thing I though was exploitable and pretty cool. Message me in game sometime & I’ll run you thru some of the finer points of it conceptually.

The sad amount of advantages that HoT has over Core makes the game virtually unplayable. Now there are going to be people from all over this forum trying to troll but yet they’re all more than likely running HoT builds or they’ll say there are still some Core Guardian builds in spvp.
Doesn’t change the fact that a vast majority of HoT skills/architecture are simply much better than Core. Now there are too many advantages to list…Ill leave those for the people that know the game well enough to know what they’re talking about…But had I been told that any expansions would be far superior & in fact designed to make you uncompetitive so you would be forced to buy them, I never would have invested any time/effort/money in a business model that is clearly “Pay to Win” now. In fact, we were told the opposite.

Dude, You should have posted the entire topic/body of this in capital cuz there’s no question the HoT builds are Light years ahead of the core class builds. Without even getting into the numerous combat advantages they have…the movement advantages are over the top. Dont even make me go thru a class by class list of HoT vs Core differences as it relates to combat.
The answer is a resounding 9.5 out of 10.
As a core thief from Beta & an original player of gw1 whose guild is from 4/29/05…That’s day 1 to the uninitiated…There was/is no way in h e l l I was going to reward anet for doing nothing but nerf me for over 3 years straight… (range nerfs that make my role in zerg vs zerg almost nonexistent at this point, trapper builds that are a comparative joke when measured according to HoT standards, and the list goes on & on).
LoL I took a 17k Gunflame hit the other day in wvw from a solid 1600+ range…
HoT Balance…It’s a pipe dream.
Server vs Server WvW Format was widely panned in conception…It didnt work in DAoC It didnt work in Warhammer Online It didnt work in SWtOR…there was no way it was going to work here.
Lack of a dual class system architecture…again widely & whole heartedly panned in conception.
Anet sold out long ago in terms of their willingness to think outside of the box.
GW1 was a masterpiece of concept, if not design/architecture that the entire industry took notice of…
GW2 is just the sad step child locked in the cellar & fed gruel thru a slot in the door.
My disappointment has been total…relegated to hanging out with the PvE heroes that are too uneducated to have a legitimate vote in gaming direction IMO
Gliding was introduced to appeal to the masses because the existing fashion wings made you look like a crippled chicken that I wanted to scoop up & cradle in my arms…spirit away to a well hidden shoe box…splint your broken wings & nurse back to health so that maybe one day I could shoot you with a pellet gun out the back door.
Heck, We dont even have fluxes.

Clearly, the other 2 keeps in EBG don’t have as serious problems as this because the cliffs in front of Anzalis are way too easy to defend….sure Let them treb the outer wall but the ability to treb the inner wall from the cliffs is a huge disadvantage to anyone that happens to have Overlook during that week.
Judging by the ridiculous advantages that exist in HoT over original classes still….I dont expect anything to come of it but in the interest of fair play this needs to be addressed….Make the edges of thecliffs in front of Anz siege free zones far enough back so that you can only Treb the outer wall….

Exploitation of Pets in WvW

A good look needs to be taken at some of the things Rangers are allowed to exploit with pets and the lack of hard penalties for a dead pet.
Why are pets allowed to ruin every Trap build this game has ever seen?
If there are stealth traps…siege traps…supply traps….why not a genuine ANIMAL trap?
It’s far too easy to just run a pet thru everything & suffer no consequences…
Make Pet builds share a Health pool with their master or make the sanctions for an expired pet mean something aside from a minor loss of dps.
Looks pretty obvious to me one of the game designers runs a Pet build as his main or there would have been a more significant effort made to balance Druid long before everyone that ran 4 Druids in an Spvp squad was allowed to exploit their way to a tier 6 pvp badge.
Balance is a sad joke right now.

It’s not hard…You can drop siege into the locked part of maps from the outside of the locked zone by being on the edges. There used to be a great many more of these places actually. The Borderlands & EBG were rushed from production & not properly vetted.
Think EoTM being in the air…It’s that way for a reason.
Duct Tape design to compensate for failed architecture imo.

See….Omega Golem skill #1 is Rocket Punch and RP’s range of 1500 is well within the range of most walls/gates from under the map. The easiest solution is to limit RP’s range to just outside the distance of walls/gates in wvw.
Getting Anet to code even the easiest of fixes into the game is another story. Cuz….after all it is WvW.
Good Luck making them care enough.

You don’t need much damage Run every class as tanky as can be & coordinate your spikes in TS. Your thief is your snare and with the amount of regen you can stack onto Stealth not to mention the 1/2 damage while Stealthed trait. I’d go opposite of almost every build anyone will mention and go VIT/Healing Power/Cond Dam on a thief & use him for fat regen/group stealth/snare.

It’s still alive because 6 seconds of 0 damage is ridiculous for a class that has 2k range,a stealth,a destealth,crazy burst that tracks, & on top of all that A pet Fear. Completely unfair to try & defend a structure or take a structure from any group of rangers right now. Flame away

You have but to count the # of posts by certain people playing Ranger to guess where the motivation comes from & they all lump into one of 3 responses….L2P, noob, or U Mad Bro. It’s all the same " I’m Rock, Nerf Paper, Scissors is Fine "
Despite the fact there’s a whole ranger forum…they’ll come here & troll post after post and response after response to do anything to keep the fact they have a Stealth, a Destealth, Pet Damage, Mad Burst, Range that says 1500 but is over 1970 on level ground, a Knockback, a 6 second Invuln, a Pet Fear, and the list goes on & on & on ,from any measure of adjustment.
Look at the the Candy Corn Gobbler & the “pvp” buffs it provides in wvw to figure out just how much ANet cares about WvW.
You’re wasting your time. GW2 is a sad shadow of the masterpiece of dual class design that GW1 was…they can’t even implement a flux in this mess. Good luck getting any penalty for a dead pet( ie Shared health pool), a true representation of ranges in the tool tips (1500 that’s 1970+), an anti pet trap or anything else coded because the designers are either playing as ranger or are just too inept to care.
Anet doesn’t care about wvw balance or there would be no Candy Corn Gobbler buffs that gave a statistical advantage to combat.
Go ahead & waste your time flaming until this post gets locked…the best thing you can do is realize that anet has fallen a long way & never invest in another product.

Remarkable how many people continue to cloud one concern with another…What you can do to counter this or that….Has NOTHING to do with the issue. Virtually every single person talking about how to counter any skill a ranger has, is doing so because theyre playing Ranger and will fight tooth & nail to keep the massive range/burst advantage that the class has from being adjusted.
The fact is…Giving that many abilities to a class with your furthest Range/Burst /Ease of Play is a very poor design decision.
If designers are buffing their favorite class for their own enjoyment…Those designers should be looking for new jobs.
You want quality design moves…Introduce Fluxes similar to GW1 that buff a class/build for a measured period of time.
Quality game design & much of what we’ve seen lately don’t go hand in hand with Anet anymore & havent for a long time.
Clear to me these guys are out of ideas,motivation, & a sense of loyalty to the constituency.
Now go back to working on whatever nonsensical StoryLine event that the hardcore wvw/spvp players could care less about and move Lions Arch 3-4 more times & your goal of saving money on bandwidth will be complete.

1. “1500” Range has been proven to reach out to 1970+ on level ground and even further with a height advantage.
2. A Ranger can have 3 pets at once.
3. Rangers have a Stealth, A Destealth, A knockback.
4. Much of WvW is 60%+ of Rangers oft times & virtually to a man they spam only Rapid Fire/Long Range Shot.
5. It can be virtually impossible for most other classes to defend structures vs the ridiculous length & burst of Rangers because they can’t get anywhere near the 1970+ range.
6. Giving the class with the most range a super high burst was/is a poor design decision that leaves many of us to conclude that Anet staff are playing Rangers in wvw.
7. Comparing any other skill/skill set/build to RapidFire/Long Range Shot is moot because they can’t reach out to 1970+.
8. Any talk of “How to Counter” has no bearing on any of what is in the above 7 Truths.

Now have at it & troll away but make sure you Read all 8 & don’t craft your troll attempts in such a way that they attempt to refute any of the “8” from my pack of vicious truths.

You want to make it even close to fair…Make an Anti Pet Trap with the same amount of penalty time that the Stealthers endure.

Your math is way off…15% is not 24%. As much as you keep pressing for threads to be closed or moved…If Rapid Fire is reaching out to virtually every bit of 2k range…it is an easy 300 further than it should be. 1650 is not 1970+
The skill ranges should be correctly stated in game & on the wiki…and they are not.
Or they should be adjusted to their correct intended design ranges.
Sorry that makes you so sad but Range is out of control and amounts to an unfair advantage.

Your video is 7 months old & appeared to show skills that are very unreliable in terms of distance covered.
I stand by what was stated & have little confidence in a video that ….again…very clearly shows “Rapid Fire” landing on flat ground from a distance of "1970"+.
Rapid Fires stated range on the website is 1200 or 1500 if Eagle eye is specced.
LoL Apparently 1500 range is 2000….so what does that make 1800? On flat ground…not to mention any type of height advantage.
The constituency deserves better than round about ranges that are obviously not accurate.

Don’t know what video you were watching Taku ,but some of those were well over 2k.
If anything…Your video shows that the range is very much in doubt when it comes to accuracy. To say nothing of the fact it’s from almost a full 7 months ago.This isnt a post about anything other than range on Ranger skills. There was mention of using “Sic Em” to determine where the 2k line range limit was…This assumes that the range on “Sic Em” to be correct.
There seems to be a fair amount of deception involved in the posted ranger skill ranges and ALWAYS has been. Why?
For all the trolling I see…The justification seems to be " Oh well". Assumed as much yet none of this gets back at the core of the concern.
What are the ACCURATE ranges and WHY have they never been correctly stated?

Long Range Shot is clearly well beyond the “claimed” 1500-1800 depending on traits.
Now that it’s been decided that Ranger should be a dominant class…How about we get some truthful numbers as to the range on some of the skills?
People will come here & troll & profess “Sure it’s a little further if the ranger has a height advantage” It’s simply not true.
Test it out. Stand on even ground & watch how much further it reaches than the numbers quoted in game & on the wiki.
Stop deceiving everyone …post the numbers…so players can make informed decisions about builds…based on legitimacy…rather than numbers that are obviously skewed.
It’s not fair to the constituency. It’s as simple as that.
The fact the erroneous numbers have been allowed to remain this long…doesn’t say much for your ethics.

You’d be wrong. Have no idea what you’re talking about…as much as I appreciate the l2p & qq comments …has nothing to do with massive camping/collusion stifling competition & rewarding campers. You can build a dozen trebs 5 seconds after flipping a keep & then spam poison that also rips all supply. 15 seconds after that you can build 8 ballistas & aim them at the spawn door. It was/is surely an accident of design but it should be seriously looked at….

Not exactly true…The fact I/We have chosen not to cheat is because there’s such a thing as Honor. The pathetic troll attempts….the sickening lack of scruples….the bogus attempts to justify cheating… they are what they are…but make no mistake about it….If I choose to exploit/cheat…There will be NOTHING that can save the Borderlands & EBG.
Whole zergs will be strolling unopposed into places you thought were secure by means that will illicit hacking cries from now until you grow up.

wvw meta is predicated by movement & the ability to regen/rejuvenate/heal/purge off that movement. Shadow’s Rejuvenation & Assassin’s Reward with VIT/healpower/condition gear & the right buffs has had me trolling entire zergs since it got boring to instanuke people with Steal/Mug/BackStab. Get your toughness from Momentum Sigil and buffs. No class out snares a thief with the right build and that’s all I really need to do…out stealth/out maneuver/out dodge/out evade/out survive you or your zerg. Someone else will be along shortly. Now I might be forced off my preferred role for a time but it’s just 2-3 seconds until i’ll be out of range standing at my next vantage point ready to flank whatever my target happens to be…

Didn’t bother to read most of the post…fairly obvious warrior burst is out of control cuz all alot of them do is run max survivability & then just spam whirlwind/hundred blades for crazy amounts of damage. As a thief…when I run max a survivability build….my role is relegated zerg troll/snares. Not so for warrior…That class is easy mode right now. Safe bet Izzy is playing warrior… One good thing about GW is the fact that builds & class dominance are cyclical. Eventually …we’re all gonna be kittening about Guardian burst.

Heh Leftover design features from Warhammer Online & SWtoR…We had dozens upon dozens of titles/achievements in both those projects that no one ever had a prayer of accomplishing. It’s a way of “adding” titles without actually having to code for them cuz you know very well no one is going to finish them. If they do… You code the titles/achievements in at a later date. Think rank 15 Dragon from HoH in Guild Wars 1.
Would be interesting to tear into the .dat & see if theyve actually accounted for them or it’s just smoke & mirrors. Pretty sure I know the answer already.

All of these seem to be dubious at best. There is one that has a ring of truth to it & the author has at least a partial sense of what’s happening & why. Certainly the word “hacker” is thrown out there way too much. The vast majority are merely bugs of obscure origin with no real impact on game play. #6 of MiLkZz’s post is worthy of more attention cuz it could get real ugly in wvw real quick ,as YOU are no doubt aware, no “hacks” are req’d.

Without being drawn into a tit for tat or quid pro quo debate allow me to simply state how little regard I hold for someone who clearly feels their opinion is correct & everyone else that doesn’t agree is wrong.
The stealth mechanics in Warhammer , SWToR , & GW2 are virtually the same conceptually…meaning…the architecture calls for an “Assassin” class/build. If you disagree with it, I’d suggest you pony up the 20-40+ million it’s going to require to design,code, & market a similar venture.
Watering down builds to the point you require 8 man spiking ala the original Guild Wars the last few years is not the answer.
The original purpose of the post has nothing to do with Stealth or Thieves…if your whole purpose here is to hijack every other post to opine your…imo…misguided approach to game design…Be glad I’m not moderating this forum.

Assuming Stealth is the guilty party in this endeavor is your 1st mistake… 2.Recognize that some of us have played Dark Age of Camelot,Warhammer Online,& Star Wars: The Old Republic for almost a decade at this point and are stupid good at the classes/styles we play. GW2 is essentially SWToR 2.0. It’s not my place to speculate as to how one gets into spawn ,there are likely multiple ways, but i will say that there’s not much you can do in there…If you kill the NPC’s…they will be ressed…If you kill Players…they will likely be ressed..chalk it up to not afking in spawn & tying up the queue when there’s someone waiting to get into WvW. Stand next to a Legendary Defender if it bothers you or better yet, dont afk in WvW.
As far as all the talk of speed hacks and various other enhancements… I just don’t see it personally. Recall that some of us are very adept at the styles we play. A good thief can Long Range Steal, pop a few Heartseekers or a couple other skills & be well out of your visual range in 5 seconds give or take.
There are others concerns regarding what can be done legitimately within the scope of the engine and its features but again, It’s not my place to reveal/discuss/enlighten or further harm the engine & its integrity. Concerns will likely be addressed as they become more legitimate for the entire constituency. Look at it like this…If you have a Dam with a hole in it….You’re not going to worry about painting lines in Employee Parking. If a certain foe is running/fighting circles around you…try joining this person & playing upon their perspective egos and maybe…just maybe….they’ll help you to understand how it is they’re doing whatever it is they’re doing.
Don’t ask me though. The integrity of the engine is generally my first & foremost concern and I won’t be sharing anything with anyone that isn’t in a position to address these concerns. It’s just good business. gg gl

Why does it only rain on Lowlands Keep & its home area? Overlook and Valley have no environmental effects & NEVER have. Yet, for some reason it’s been raining on Lowlands for almost 18 months. If you want to have environmental effects…Why not code them so it’s random? Turn them off altogether if it’s not something that’s capable of being adjusted…Makes no sense to reserve the extra gpu load for Lowlands exclusively. Hey…Let’s add environmental effects… but only to 1/3rd of WvW and then…Let’s leave these environmental effects on 24/7 365 days a year? Who’s responsible for such design calls? The list of unnecessary gpu load in WvW is long & varied and it starts at Lowlands
