Why all the hate on the ranger?

Hellmood.2097

There are just so many “bearbows” in PUGs, it’s really frustrating. They really bring next to no utility NOR damage to the table. And so many people just think this is the way a Ranger needs to be played because it’s so easy to level with it.
But it’s also kinda Arenanet’s fault that basically the only really viable dungeon/PvE build is Sword/Warhorn + Frost Spirit.

Pets:
They simply do not work properly in this game. They have stupid AI and are built around damage soaking, in a game where damage avoidance is paramount. Their utility is also very limited

Weapons:
The bows simply lack utility and do not have that much damage output.
The 1-hand sword deals good damage, but has a very awkward autoattack.
The greatsword also has awkward animations and deals low damage.
The axe is basically only good against exactly 2 enemies.

Traits are all over the place

It’s really annoying if you level a class which cannot pull out condition removal out the kitten . Some stupid trash Krait stacks poison with a duration of 2 minutes or so and you’re stuck in combat for that time. It just creates annoyance and nothing else.
I suggest that once all enemies nearby have been defeated, the conditions of trash get removed. Shouldn’t apply to Veterans and above.

Actually, 500W is plenty, if it’s from a good brand. The wattage actually isn’t that important, it’s the build-quality and reputation of the brand. A 500W Enermax or SeaSonic PSU can power pretty much any PC that uses one graphics card, however, a cheap, no-name 500W will probably fail when used to power a gaming PC.

I have these crashes too and “only” have 450W, but from a good brand (Enermax). Other games run fine, torture tests run fine. The crashing is a flaw within GW2.

Hellmood.2097

Hello,

GW2 constantly crashes with a black screen, usually with the sound distorted too. My PC needs a hard reset then. It really likes to happen in dungeons and other instanced zones e.g. personal story. It actually doesn’t happen in open world, not even during world bosses. There’s no particular event that triggers the crash, it just randomly happens mostly in instanced zones.

My PC
W7 64-Bit
i5 3450
AsRock B75-Pro3-M
Radeon HD7850 1GB

-The PC doesn’t overheat. It runs other games and even “torture tests” like Furmark and Prime95 flawlessly. It’s not overclocked. Newest drivers are installed, including the Catalyst Application Profiles. I’ve tried every suggestion from the sticky thread. it definitely is a fault withing GW2 and it’s getting annoying.

The boss of the lvl 62 Pact mission.

First of all, I am not complaining because this guy’s too difficult. On the contrary, he is absolutely not challenging it all. However, he is one thing: annoying as hell
First off, he is an insane HP sponge requiring you to slash, stab and shoot him for several minutes.
Second, he literally craps out stun and daze zones like a machine gun. Those are virtually impossible to avoid and usually affect you even well outside of their circle or during a dodge roll away from them.

My suggestion would be to buff his damage A LOT because I never dropped below 90% of my HP once I killed all the Abominations he throws at you. Then, reduce his HP by A LOT because bashing a target for minutes isn’t challenging but tedious.
Then tweak his stun zones to be avoidable.

Wth hellmood? :p
BRB clearing trash with marks, wells, epidemic, life transfer among others.
Necro has ZERO problems with clearing trash aoe lol

As for axe, double the vulnerability caused by axe #1 and we’re talking. Maybe yet another increase of dmg on axe 2 (fair to keep in mind that this move has already been buffed).

Marks = condition mostly
Wells = high CD utility skills
Epidemic = condition
Life transfer: 40 sec CD

If you actually read carefully, I was referring to Power Necros. And then again, why should the Necro have to use tons of precious, high CD spells while EVERY other class can autoattack for the same effect?

I personnaly find Axe “okish”, using it myself as a 2nd weapon for group fights. It could do with a cleaved dmg, ofc, but it would then become by far the best necro’s weapon. The ability to enhance a whole team DPS constantly shouldn’t be ignored (talking about a 1 target fight… unless we do got cleave dmg one day :p), nor should be the ability to aoe cripple + full retaliation uptime possibilities Axe give to necros.

Vulnerability stacking is kitten easy in this game. Oh and compare Axe #1 to Elementalist Water Dagger #1, for instance. Also, Warrior GS autoattack, AoE.

AoE cripple? Warrior has it too, in a line, ranged.

The retliation is the only aspect of the axe that is not horribly subpar.

Yes, I talked about this topic as well: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/necromancer/Give-us-a-weapon-with-cleave/first#post1006672

Especially since Necros have only one weapon (staff) with an autoattack that hits more than one target. However, it’s pretty mediocre or bad even and the staff is a condition build weapon. Levelling a power Necro is a real chore, because we do not have anything to cleave through the trash.
Every class has AoE trash clear abilities, even Thieves which are supposed to be single-target assassins can do it better with the shortbow or the sword. I won’t even comment on Warriors and Guardians who AoE autoattack with almost every weapon while actually dealing more damage.

Giving the Axe some nice AoE on #1 (maybe #2 as well), will finally make it useful and make Necros slightly more on par with other classes.

So please Arenanet, give us cleave on the Axe already. When I think about how fast you gave Warrior spear #2 (underwater) AoE, it makes me sad how you ignore the Necro’s lack of AoE cleaving and the axe’s desolate state with such tenacity.

So, has Arenanet given any feedback to this ? Or do other people still have concerns? I just don’t see any reason to keep the Axe as trashy as it is now. While every profession has its “subpar” weapon, they still fulfill a purpose, which the Necro Axe really does not.
The vulnerability of #1 does not help much in increasing its abysmal, strictly single-target DPS; in groups, sources of vuln. stacking are abundant.
Number #2 is your generic, single-target ‘nuke’, which…doesn’t nuke. Lifeforce regeneration is lower than the dagger’s autoattack rotation which is not limited by a cooldown.

  1. is the only decent skill on the axe, but it does not make up for the glaring weaknesses of #1 and #2.

Hellmood.2097

When i read topics like these and i see tons of boys playign and talking about a female character only need to run on kitten mode, i only assume you dont have girlfriends or wife.

And that matters how, exactly?
Besides, I cannot imagine people who come on forums only to flame, troll or insult others, to have an “ideal” social life either.

Because it’s stupid, why would female warriors on the frontline of battle run around in a metal bikini? Go back to TERA if you want that kind of stuff.

So, if our characters are supposed to be wearing armour to, you know, protect them? Why should it be revealing?

Most MMOs I’ve played ( TERA was really bad about it ) had this strange receding armour the higher level you became, so high level females went into battle in metal bikinis. If heavy plate armour looks like a bunch of strings, you’ve officially ruined immersion. That’s the point of a ROLEPLAYING GAME, no? Immersion?

It’s not like people couldn’t handle the skin, it’s just not necessary and doesn’t make any sense.

This argument is terrible.
We are playing a FANTASY game, what’s so hard to understand about that?
Realism or logic should not be of any concern, especially in the aesthetic department.

I am already able to rush into battle with bright pink, spiked armor worn by a cow-cat in this game, so why prevent me from doing the same in a metal Bikini and high heels worn by a tall snow lady? Both of these examples are impractical and illogical.
Additionally, it’s still YOU who decides how your character looks like. If you want to look “practical” or “real”, go ahead, the game has plenty of options for that., but don’t try to force your “selective realism” on others.

Some more arguments for more varied (e.g. revealing) armors/clothing:
- This game is basically all about getting aesthetics and armor, so we simply need MORE
- Revealing clothes can be done for men too, it does not bother me nor can I imagine that other male players are bothered. So, we get that sexism accusation right out of the way.
- Even revealing clothes, high heels, etc. can be done classy and not cheap. The artists’ skills are required here.

While I dooo agree that necro needs some sort of cleave for a weapon (I’m looking at you, axe), but I still scratch my head at how people think this undermines the necro’s AOE potential. I mean, have you people not looked at epidemic? It’s seriously become my most favorite AOE ability in the game. You can stack loads of conditions and spread them between all the enemies, and at the cooldown cost of only 15 seconds? I think that’s incredible.

No one is forcing you to buy dyes and you are capable of finding them on your own . So in turn no one is ‘milking’ you for your money in that regard. Not really fair to say at all.

Always love these Stockholm-syndrome people who defend the people who harm them.

Hellmood.2097

I’d support this if it was optional and if they let the female characters wear the male versions of their armors (obviously with slight modifications for body shape changes), then and only then would it be acceptable.

However, the sexism in a lot of the female versions of armor is too much already. Adding in something as terrible as high heels would make it worse, unless there was a credible option to have sensible shoes/boots alternative skins.

Currently, most of the less-bad sexist armors are only low level, and fairly bland (in terms of textures and detailing). Lack of “sexy” armor for females is not a problem – see most any high level set. For example, the tier 3 human medium – basically Vegas hooker uniform.

Really, that’s wrong. Check out light dungeon armor for example: http://www.gw2armor.com/norn/female/light_list.php

Hellmood.2097

Hello,

I’d really love to level a Necro, but I am really offset by the fact that EVERY weapon bar the Staff has a strictly single-target autoattack.

What? Everything about the staff is about hitting multiple targets.

  1. is very narrow and slow as hell. If you or the enemy mob is standing on a slope, it’s messing up too. Underwhelming DPS
  2. is only useful in condition builds, it’s a very small, static AoE
  3. same as #2
  4. pretty limited uses in basic PvE
  5. high cooldown, only useful as an escape

The staff is horrible for PvE and leveling, imho. I can see it’s uses in support-y builds, but not so much for leveling or general PvE.

Nay of the Ether.8913 is right about the axe being a utility weapon. Axe 2 is a Life Force builder with high chances for crit proc sigils if you go down that route. You can have a million opinions about what you think it should do, won’t change what its actually supposed to do; a secondary utility weapon.

Listen. Axe #2 is a horrible lifeforce builder in comparsion. You know why? Check out the dagger’s autohit. It builds 6% lifeforce in a full rotation that takes maybe 1-2 secs. Axe #2 builds 8% lifeforce in 3 secs. Means the dagger autohit has the same “lifeforce per second” or even more, considering it’s not limited by a cooldown.
Damage-wise, the dagger autohit rotation has more DPS as well.
Again, there is barely any utility on the axe. Vulnerability is common and not that much of a highly sought-after utility. The autohit is horrible, especially in comparison to other vulnerability stacking autohits like water dagger Elementalist or GS Warrior.
Axe #2 is single-target DPS, but the dagger’s autohit outshines it in both DPS and lifeforce gain. You can argue it’s ranged, but it’s pretty short still and doesn’t justify it being so bad.

Give us a weapon with cleave!

in Necromancer

Posted by: Hellmood.2097

Hellmood.2097

Well, the axe #2 skill completely contradicts your assumption of it being a “utility” weapon. It’s straight up, single target damage.
Besides, vulnerability isn’t the most sought after “utility” anyway. There are plenty of sources for it and it’s only really powerful when heavily stacked.
Also, compare other vulnerability stacking options, for example:

Warrior greatsword #1. AoE vulnerability and much longer (8 secs).

Elementalist water dagger #1. It applies vulnerability 2x as well, only in a very generous line AoE, it’s a second longer (6 secs) and has the same range. While Necro axe is supposed to be some power build DPS option (in my opinion), Elementalist water actually IS meant to be utility/heal/support and yet its autoattack is superior in every way.
