Yeah, hate to see this weapon being THIS useless. I think there is no other weapon from any profession that is as bad as Necro Axe. It simply has no uses. Even with a power build, the dagger outshines it in every aspect.
If the Axe #1 (and maybe even #2) were AoE, it would somewhat have a use.
I think we can compare Warrior GS #1 and #2 with Necro axe #1 and #2.
- is a vulnerability stacking autoattack
- is a channeled, pure damage ability
The difference is: GS deals more damage AND hits everything in front of the wielder.
I really think there is no reason not to give Axe #1 AoE. It won’t make the weapon completely imbalanced, especially not in PvP.
digiowl, like I said. I am kinda reluctant to “waste” my precious cooldowns on utility-oriented skills like Focus #4 and Dagger #4 just because we have NO autoattack that is halfway decent at clearing large amounts of “trash”. I just find Necro PvE unenjoyably slow and inefficient because of this.
Warriors and Guardians cleave anything in front of them anyway, with almost every weapon.
Ranger also has 3 out of 5 MH/2H weapons that AoE autoattack.
Mesmer has the staff and the 1H sword.
Elementalist is an AoE monster all around.
Thieves have the shortbow for ranged and the 1H sword for melee cleaving.
Engineer has piercing rifle or exploding pistol.
Necromancers have nothing of this sort, bar the slow and narrow staff #1. We are incredibly inefficient at basic PvE and it’s really sad.
As far as other skills go, we also have nothing on a short CD that can substitute.
Staff #2 with its 6 secs? Practically useless on power builds (due to bleed) and very small, static AoE.
The next thing that comes close is scepter #2 with its 10 secs…which is also condition damage again.
After that, anything else is beyond 15 seconds which I consider too long for the purpose of basic PvE and levelling.

Yeah, the Axe is really incosistent. It’d be much better if #1 and maybe even #2 were AoE. I mean, it REALLY feels like they were intended to be AoE in the first place, given the lower damage and the animation.
I mean, every class has at least one weapon whose #1 let’s them clear a group of mobs neatly, only the Necro doesn’t. Not even the Staff #1 is particularly well-suited for this. It’s really meh that I have to blow high cooldowns on gimmick-y AoE abilities only to clear groups of mobs.

Hello,
I’d really love to level a Necro, but I am really offset by the fact that EVERY weapon bar the Staff has a strictly single-target autoattack.
I’d love the Dagger to cleave a small area, but this weapon is probably fine as it.
However, you could use the oppurtunity and buff the currently underwhelming AXE by giving it AoE! I mean, the animation for it is already there. To me, it looks like the Axe #1 skill was meant to be AoE to begin with.
And again, the “anti-entitlement”, “But I want to be milked” and “I am only here to abuse the market” people take over this thread.
Listen people, dyes aren’t meant to be your gold source. They were meant to be a little cosmetic extra that will make your character look nicer. It’s sad that the market of this game is in the hand of freshmen economists that exploit and capitalize on anything worth gold, making more casual (in the sense of not being worried about their gold all the time) suffer.
I don’t mind. I want my chick to be sexy. I highly doubt most of you given the option would make your chick ‘thick’. Hourglass figure works fine for me. But I do agree though, how the somewhat heavier chicks have smaller breast. That is quite bizarre. If you want big girls, make a norn.
Well, I have made tons of Norn characters already and seriously cannot see Wayfarer’s Foothills anymore (I know I can change areas, but I want to do story quests). Also, “sexy” is entirely subjective, for many, thick = sexy. Personally, I cannot stand the incredible “Barbie-ness” of human females. You can either take a boy shape, a barbie body or that remotely curvy shape with the pathetic man-boobs.
Ahaha, Tengu. They’re just a bunch of lame chicken.
Kodans are the true race we need.
I would buy a makeover kit if good bust size doesn’t come with stick legs all the time.
I do use D/D for leveling.
You have to consider that leveling an Elementalist in general is much harder than a Ranger, Warrior or Guardian.
As for weapons, I simply chose D/D because staff feels horribly slow and clunky to me. With D/D, fights are much more dynamic and fun. Also, D/D has much AoE, so saying that staff is king of AoE is kinda false. The greatest advantage of staff is its range.
As far as scepter goes, I do not like it that much.
Scepter fire: horrible autoattack, good #2 and #3
Scepter water: weak, just weak
Scepter air: too much single target and not that strong
Scepter earth: that one is alright, although heavy on condition damage
Focus is incredibly good as a defensive offhand, even better than shield imho. #4 is a blind + regenration and #5 is a whooping PENTA (5x !!!) Aegis
Really needs to be dyeable the same way armor and town clothing is. I don’t want to spend multiple Gold on a hair redo kit only to change the color of a hairband or something.
I also think it is strange that human’s first “nemesis” (like Svanirs, Inquest, Flame Legion and Nightmare Court) are completely ordinary bandits.
Rolled a Norn Guardian few days ago and completed Wayfarer’s Foothills 100%. I also did a healthy amount of events, did the daily quest twice and every story mission. However, after all that, I was only halfway through level 13. The next zone was pretty tough for me and I really do not remember my former characters to have had that problem. I think you should easily be on the zone’s max level after 100% completion.
So, I decided to roll a Guardian, specced from the very beginning to being more of a tanky support than a damage dealer. Now, this champion in the Norn starting zone comes (in the very north, the ice creature) and his kitten instakill move goes through my Aegis, Blocks, Blinds like nothing (Mace/Focus). I’m really disheartened now and feel really put down. Is this mob/attack an exception or are the real dangerous attacks from champs just unblockable? In this case, I really see no reason to limit myself by tring to play the Guardian not like a blue-glowing GS Warrior
If you need straight up damage, Torch is certainly the best offhand. However, most Guardians want the utility of Focus or Shield.
I use this: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fUAQJApdlYgqCnFyIEmIFSmCDEBrUMP1DmCMyjuKoQA;ToAZTSmUbp0iCLDWCssY5wSiF
It’s a really tanky healing build using Mace/Focus.
First off, good read, nice suggestion.
I’d like the name to be a bit more neutral and not so heavily Japan-oriented. How about “Wanderer”, “Stalwart” or “Liegeman”?
Then, I really like the concept. I think it sounds like a mix of Warrior and Thief.

The females look much better than humans. Seriously, human females are so kitten ugly.
There are now two consumables in the gem store that will let you do this!
It should be free to change, just like armor colors are.
This kind of whining is what removed the “skill” out of "skill challenges. You should feel bad about even suggesting this.
Can you provide context instead of spouting out nonsense? What do skill challenges have to do with some POIs being only accessible during events and the unnecessary drag of idly waiting for said event to happen?
Please ANet, making some POIs inaccessible when there aren’t particular events going on (like Stonecrag Kraal in Plains of Ashford) is really, REALLY annoying.
I think Mesmers and Guardians should get some more Eyecandy for their weapons.
Mesmers:
I think the weapons should “float” around them. It would look especially cool with the swords.
Guardians:
Their weapons should have Blue Flames, increasing in intensity depending on Virtue of Justice.
Won’t happen. Hint: Official Goldselling.
It wouldn’t be an MMO if the stealth-assassin-soloplay class for 13 year olds wouldn’t be OP.
Two words: Official Goldselling.
I only have two issues with it:
1. It’s still pretty “unsmooth”
2. She does the first swing with two hands, the second with one hand and the third with two hands again…Looks really weird.
I get into the creation screen, everything runs fine. Then I enter my name, click “next” and…nothing happens. I return to the character selection screen. My new character isn’t there, the 5th slot is still empty. I can log in with other characters without problems. No error message. What’s wrong?
Agreed, it’s just as bad-sounding as female tennis players:

You’re all like “man, I got the high ground, gonna rain death on that charlie”. But Arenanet doesn’t seem to like people using the terrain to their advantage.
I think it’s entirely possible to make an “ugly” Norn women.
The major issue are the human females imho. The body shapes only range from anorexic to very thin. There is one shape I’d call remotely curvy, but somehow they thought it was a great idea to deflate its bust size to ridiculousness. I don’t need E cup, but it just looks horribly out of proportion, especially since the model doll shapes often got bigger bust. It’s silly.
The faces also range only from 12 to 20 year old.
I think the greatest problem is, that faces are always provided “as-is”. There are no different mouth or eye shapes. For women, makeup and lipcolor are “hard-coded” as well. It’s quite a customization-killer, really.
I believe body sliders would be better than pre-determined shapes as well.
I wished we could have different voices tho
I’d also love to see being able to transmute light armor to look like heavy armor and vice versa.
Wouldn’t it be awesome if there was an actual horn sound when using a Warhorn skill? Maybe even different sounds for different skills? As of now, it sounds like anewbie trying to blow a Vuvuzela, aka nothing except a hoarse whisper.

Well, Arenanet really drives people to the gold sellers because
a) EVERYTHING costs tons of money in this game + it’s hard to earn money regularily
b) the gold sellers sell at a MUCH better rate than Arenanet
Agree very much here, it’s a shame Arenanet tries to milk us so agressively, although we spent 50€ for the game already.
Are almost completely impossible because this kitten thing warps, glitches and bugs around like there is no tomorrow. It bugs out of melee range almost constantly and glitch jump attacks you when you use a Harpoon gun. Please fix them.

The strangest part is, the only body shape of human females that looks remotely curvy has a TINY bust. I’m not asking for Norn milkbags here, but it simply looks unproportional as kitten.
They milk us out of our ingame gold to encourage the official gold selling by themselves. It’s a shame they have to resort to such shrewd money-grabbing methods, although we already paid hard bucks for this.
I cannot really say anything about the more advanced points of OP, but I DEFINITELY agree that Arenanet failed yet again to make the pure mage class feel more dynamic, more mobile and less sluggish than in most games. I still see myself sitting in the backrow facerolling and looking at chargeup bars most of the time. The Dagger has definitely a more interesting playstyle, but then again, you are way too squishy most of the time to be in front of a monster’s face,
Human: Doesn’t really fit into this whole “royality” thing
Asura: Absolutely not, they are scientists at heart, no “treehuggers”
Sylvari: Very fitting, close bond to nature
Norn: Very fitting, they are hunters at heart
Charr: Somewhat fitting, subjugating a pet for your needs seems Charr-ish. But then again, they are more rank and file soldiers than individualistic adventurers.
I agree with OP, female human body choice is horrible. You have tons of anorexic to thin shapes, but there is only one shape I would call remotely curvy. And somehow they thought it was a great idea to deflate this body shape’s bust to ridiculousness. I’m not asking for Norn E-cups, simply for proportion.
Also, I am really missing a lipstick option or mouth in general. Cannot really understand why it’s directly tied to the eyes. Sometimes, the eyes look great but are ruined by a stupid-looking mouth.

It all comes down to Arenanet’s greed. As if they will make anything in this game cheaper, that would hamper gem purchases. You think the witchhunt against goldsellers is because they want to protect you from spam or to protect “your” economy? Think again.
The major gripe I have with this system is the fact that you have to go to the repair guy, which more often than not, are few and far between. It’s not so much of a financial problem I got with this, death should be penalized. It’s the incredibly tedious act of wasting time teleporting around and back to the place you wanted to clear, looking at loading screens for extended periods of time.
My main problem with underwater combat is the very, very wonky hit detection and bugging mobs (that shark in Sparkfly Fen jumps and teleports just too muhc). More often than not, I found myself shooting right through mobs when I use air/earth skills as an Elementalist.
I know, you probably had to think of a way to somehow penalize dying in this game, since resurrection is incredibly easy with others around, but this half-assed repair system is only a little bit less mundane than weapons/armor losing durability while using them. Having to go to this stupid repair guy, probably spending tons of silver not only for the repair but also for the teleports since they are so rare. Just deduct a death fee everytime you die, if you want a financial punishment that hard, after all you gotta sell your gems/gold, am I right?
I do not know the english name (German: Früh gewarnt ist halb gewonnen, literally: warned early is half won) but it’s the underwater missions in the sewers of Lion’s Arch, during the Vigil’s story.
It’s a major drag to complete because almost every monster and your companion Forgal clips through the walls constantly, sometimes getting stuck forever. Using this thread, I’d like to say that clipping is also very common on armor/weapons. It’s no. 1 reason for ugliness in most RPGs and it would be great if you could fix it.
