Also, even though UNIV is a PST/EST [PDT/EDT] guild, many guildies run during other time zones as well and we have good connections with other veteran players in OCX/SEA and EU times. If you can’t run with us, we can find someone who can help you.

hi, i’m legit totally new at this game and was wondering if its possible for me to join your guild to help me to get more familiar with the game and the world

Absolutely. I’ve added you to contacts, you should see me in your ‘followers’ tab in the ‘Contacts and LFG’ window. Message me in game the times you normally play and we can try to set something up.

Also, welcome to GuildWars 2!

Fort Aspenwood/SF WvW New Players

If you’re new or newly returning, there’s a lot of stuff available to you.

Team play is the fastest way to get progress in Reward Track, WvW leveling and Pips for those shiny things.

Best way to do team play? Glad you asked.

We have both a server TeamSpeak and Discord, free for you to use. You can just ask for the address in mapchat and someone will help you. Both have autoverification.

Teamspeak has both guild channels for guild rallies -and- map channels that can be used by any FA/SF members so you can spend less time in chat coms trying to work together and more time killing/taking objectives. ( If main channel is already occupied, pick the ‘roaming’ sub channel)

Fort Aspenwood has two public spreadsheets to help you decide what to do to optimize your build, both of which can either be found on the discord or fort-aspenwood.com.

UNIV has a site that is mostly dedicated to assisting new or newly returning players.

We offer tips on:

What to do if you’re just starting

What the heck is even going on in WvW

Best ways to not be ‘that guy’

Very -very- basic scouting tips

and a page on survivable builds

FA also offers a variety of different guilds with styles of play and guild culture. Personally, I am more familiar with Fort Aspenwood’s NA but if you’re on FA or SF and looking for a guild or just hoping to familiarize yourself a little more in WvW, send me a message in game or whisper me if you see me online.

I think if counting YB players were part of the formula from the get go, many of us on FA and SoS would have had Yakslapper years ago when we were locked in that matchup for an eternity. I think we all should just get it, as a thank you for staying in the game through that tedium. #nooffenseAnetIknowyouweretrying

Server w best Guild groups and worst roamers?

in WvW

Posted by: HiTandMayhem.1378

HiTandMayhem.1378

I think there can be a disconnect between ‘train my skills’ and ‘get bags’.

Sometimes running with a zerg means you can take advantage of the numbers and get bags. I’d say better to find a driver/guild that won’t let you do that. Don’t measure* by bags, rather measure* by how much that zerg requires you to participate actively. [this might mean you get called out if you’re not keeping up or communicating.]

Regarding training skills, I’d agree that you want to oppose the server that has the good duelers/roamers. For the small group roaming, I’d say find the server that opposes tRex. I’ve been on same server and opposing server with them. They bring a fight for sure.

Just my 2 cents.

*this filter is hilarious. The synonym for measure I originally used starts with a and ends with s and it got kittened.

So Anet are you...

There’s a subset of players who would be happy with 40v40 battle arena.

I think actually there might be players who would pay for a private instance like the private PvP arenas.

I do think though it would both fix something and break a couple other things. Namely it might leave WvW mostly full of people hiding behind walls and clinging to siege instead of coming out and fighting.

Maybe not.

Dynamics Thesis Defense Unit [UNIV]

We’re most interested in players who want to work together as a unit, actively adapting to changes in the game as it comes. We don’t run zergs; we run smaller so you have to be ready to adapt in play style and/or build.

Due to our server (Fort Aspenwood) moving up and down in tiers, we must adjust to either being very outnumbered in upper tiers or in the lower tiers be ready for some players who are more experienced in dueling.

Living up to the spirit of the word ‘Dynamic’ means that we’re always looking to adjust and improve in a changing game.

In that spirit, we have several resources at our disposal:

  • A guild hall arena
  • Access to a private PvP arena thanks to [Jedi] where junior players can spectate while more experienced players duel and vice versa.
  • Subject matter consultants who can talk classes and builds in a patient matter with new (or new/returning to WvW) players
  • Allied guilds like [DIE], [TLC] and [Jedi] who can provide additional run-times and a different play style.
  • Inviting outside subject matter experts to broaden our understanding of classes, combos, and team comps.
  • Weekly missions to allow members to accrue guild commendations for creating better builds.
  • A level 55 Guild Hall: Full buffs in the Guild Tavern, a top level War Room, a Work Shop, Market, and the above mentioned Arena for all members.

Given that, the players we seek are:

  • Players who are team oriented, affable, and ready to work together to support the Unit.
  • New players who want to learn – Join us, engage us, ask us questions. No question is too basic.
  • Subject matter veterans who want to teach – We’d love it if you joined but if you’re already full on guilds and don’t want to leave them, let’s schedule a time when you can drop in and share the wisdom.

Our Current Requirements:

  • Must participate in at least one guild mission per week. [currently WvW & PvP] (Players are also rewarded chests with commendations for participating in each mission.)
  • If we as a team are performing under par, must accept that sometimes missions or rallies will be deferred until we spend enough time in practice to improve fight effectiveness in order to adapt to dynamic changes in the game.
  • If unable to rally with us must donate materials toward the building/advancing of the guild hall or keeping up tactics.
And/Or must be a driver/ involved mentor of players and spend time assisting the guild.
  • Must_have_teamspeak. Initially if you’re kittenhen just listening is fine. If you want to do more than be a peripheral player however, call-outs are important in a fight.
  • If you’re a Fort Aspenwood native, a profile on fort-aspenwood.com. We’re pushing you in that direction so you can get a better idea of the bigger picture on the server. Sign up, get informed.
  • We love seeing members rep all the time but we only require that you rep when you run with us, use the PvP arena, or run with an allied guild (listed above) that you are not also a member of.

We also offer:

  • Small WvW runs, not blobby.
  • WvW rally and guild missions: Tue 8pm PST/ Fri Reset/ Sat 7PST
  • Guild referral if we are not a match for you
  • Grand Master Crafters in all disciplines.
  • Theory crafters who are happy to talk builds.
  • A ‘No question is too basic’ attitude.
  • A website with helpful information.

Timezone: Generally PST/EST
Current Guild Size: 94. (18 consistent WvW regulars)
Age Group: 18+ preferred. Our group generally ranges from mid 20’s up.
WvW Rally Sched: Tues 8 PST/ Fri Reset/ Sat &PST, Spontaneous many days during the week
Crucible of Eternity run for Golemancer Runes can be scheduled any time. [We occasionally have a Golemancer fun-run in WvW and pop as many golems as possible]

contact HiTandMayhem.1378 in game for more information or if you’re interested in joining the Unit.

Looking for Guild with PST time zone players

in Looking for...

Posted by: HiTandMayhem.1378

HiTandMayhem.1378

Hi Lexor,
My guilds are all pretty much WvW and if you’d like to try it and are on the Fort Aspenwood or Darkhaven servers, you’d be welcome to join in on a few rallies [though lvl 50 might be tough]. However, UNIV (my guild) has done regular work on WvW reset night with Jedi Covenant [Jedi] which is PvX, a multi-server guild and a friendly bunch. [Jedi] is large enough to have players in many time zones but still social and engaging enough to make it more than just a chatbox to interact with. If that seems interesting enough to you, one of the guild leaders is Kayluh.1397.

Regardless, welcome back to the game!

HiTandMayhem.1378

Players on Darkhaven and Fort Aspenwood: The Dynamics Thesis Defense Unit [UNIV] will be holding a fun run, using Superior Runes of the Golemancer in WvW. We’re looking for other fellow golemancers to rally with us for a little light hearted fun. If you have these runes, please come and join us. If you don’t have them but are interested in joining in the rally you have time to get them if you start now!

Please message me in game for specific time if you’re interested.

Also UNIV is recruiting players from Fort Aspenwood or Darkhaven interested in roaming/havoc style WvW play. We run small 5-10 for the most part on our rallies, this means engaged team play is important but even if you’re new to WvW, we would be happy to help you figure out the new environment.

Stop pin-sniping

in WvW

Posted by: HiTandMayhem.1378

HiTandMayhem.1378

Have a back up driver…
… beef up like other drivers
…Grab contemplation of purity, stand your ground, and signet of judgement.

It’s a strategy to driver snipe. Counter playing is usually a good technique.

o/

Wholeheartedly agree.

Other mistakes:
-drivers leaping several yards out in front of their zerg, well before everyone else.
-having a distinct look that is easy to pick out. [though some do this on purpose]

For those who are hit by disproportionately uneven numbers, one of their opportunities to fight back is to find the driver and burn them down fast.

It’s a legit tactic that just requires the driver adapt.

(hills stuck on 36ish/40 for reinforced for hours too).

Seems like the map is frozen then and that explains the queues and missing points.

Yeah it looks like the only way to get an accurate point count is to replay this week.

7% chance at rolling BG again.

HAHAHA! I love that FA got T1 and nobody wanted it. Can we get a troll roll again? Only time will tell.

WvW Poll 12 July: Repair Hammers (Closed)

in WvW

Posted by: HiTandMayhem.1378

HiTandMayhem.1378

Hey! I know! Why just stop at spamming siege and repairing it while hiding behind a structure!

We can build on this whole idea of winning the game without needing to fight at all!

Let’s introduce farms and medical centers! Some players would have to level Ag specialty and tend to the fields in order for other players to have access to food!

Other players would need to level up medicine as a craft while injured players would have to spend a set amount of time on injury leave! Be careful! Too many low level medic crafters and you’ve got gangrene or MRSA!

Maybe we could create an operations center where people could role play logistics, delivery and supply management! Better have Grand Master Administrators or your supply and map rewards just vanish into thin air!

Wait wait! I know! Hedge fund management! We could just outspend our enemies and impoverish them with unreasonable treaties!

These ideas keep rolling out guys!

-Or-

We could just try to keep this remotely a fight game instead of turning it into a tedious Siege/Supply/SabotageWarz.2

HiTandMayhem.1378

The Dynamics Thesis Defense Unit [UNIV] is holding a contest to recruit new players to WvW. We’re offering up The Hunter -[ as of this moment selling for 649g in the trading post, to make Predator and sell for 3,300g, or just sell the pre ] as a prize. If you’re not on the same server, even though it looks like server stuff will change this Friday, you can still transfer to Fort Aspenwood (our server) for only 6 real world dollars’ worth of gems which is pretty cheap.

Here are the rules:

1 -Must attend 3 UNIV rallies per week.
{1.a Lab day & Reset // or Reset & Saturday mandatory. Other day your choice.}

2- Must rep UNIV during UNIV, TLC or DIE rallies [unless you’re also a member of DIE/TLC] – this is so I can get feedback from drivers of those guilds.

3- This will be for 6 weeks, then core members vote for MVP.

4- Must use our TeamSpeak & it’s better if you participate in coms. [Meaning that the more you participate and communicate, the more you’ll stand out to core members and they’re more likely to vote for you if they know how you are as a player]

5- This is for new members.

6- Your rank will be ‘Hunter Killer’ which is essentially a probationary rank.

7- It starts Today! You can start late but you must attend 18 rallies so the later you start, the more weekly rallies you must do.

8- We reserve the right to refuse your participation. You’ve got to fit the Thesis and the guild culture.

PM me in game or on the Fort Aspenwood forums if you’re interested.

[TLDR]:
Dynamics Thesis Defense Unit [UNIV]
Fort Aspenwood WvW
NA- PST (hopefully soon EST too)
(English, but if you speak Esperanto please join!)
Age: Mostly 21+
————————-

Loquacious version:

Got an urge to dance the robot? Are you chomping at the bit to take your murder puppet in to WvW & take on enemy players? Dynamics Thesis Defense Unit [UNIV] is looking for new WvW Fort Aspenwood thesis defenders to join our Krewe.

• We are mostly WvW but technically we’re PvX.
• In WvW we run havoc.
• We have a scheduled raid on Tuesdays, 9PM PST
• We want to expand to EST as our driver can’t always stay up to 3AM his time.
• Our members are often raiding unscheduled as we love WvW

Guild Culture:
• Friendly, helpful to new players.
• We have players from [TLC], a furry friendly guild, so understand that we are okay with alt lifestyle players and you should be too.
• If the name wasn’t a hint, we’re all about learning/teaching and trying new things.
• Our coms are casual and fun, not aggro but in a fight, we aim to keep it focused.

What we’re looking for in new members:
• In order to coordinate effectively in WvW, you really need TeamSpeak. Download it, and at minimum, listen in.
• At minimum, rep when you run with us; more if you’d like. If you’re with us and we do activities, we get influence points each time you do an activity and fly our guild name. We can serve our guild members and server better, the more points we have. (no 100% rep requirements)
• If you’re already a WvW player and want to help mentor players who are new, we’d love to hear from you.
• Light-hearted teasing on occasion is okay among friends but salt mining and trolling is disruptive and not a productive way to introduce people to FA WvW.
• If you don’t have it already, make a profile on fort-aspenwood.com. We’re encouraging you to do that so you can get a better idea of the bigger picture on the server. Sign up, get informed.

This one specific person also happens to stay awake for three days straight at the end of every week, ensuring that everything we work for early in the week is for nothing.

If they’re willing to stay awake for 72 hours straight just to get some PPT, let them have it. Know that your life is probably much happier and more fulfilling than theirs. And enjoy your beauty sleep.

tbh I keep hearing people saying that guy has to be on cocaine and all I can think is ‘if that guy has enough money for cocaine binges for that long, why is he spending all his time playing video games?’

Honestly, we all know that some of the decisions come down to the bottom line of profit, it just makes me sad that so many people think female human armor is lame unless it is sexy. Yes, this is a fantasy game so fantastic armor is a good thing, it’s just a tired trope to have so much skin showing by default for female armor. However credit to Anet designers for having the Scallywag chest piece in heavy armor for males. It gives a tony nod to balance.

My suggestion is that if Anet really wants to cash in, they should make armor that consists of nothing but male genitals from head to toe. They could even make it so that as Fury goes up, so do the genitals. I say they make it Legendary armor and sell it in the gem store. They would make a ton of money and it would make the game much more entertaining.

Maining an Asura in a Legion of Charr(s), I have a very tough time seeing me in video review (to improve) so I shelled out for the regular potion but then realized that once downed, I’ve got to consume another. (ouch) So yeah, I’m not one to buy gems but I’d do it for an endless ascalonian mages potion and that’s more immediate cash for them. Anet could still build a way in to make it a challenge so as to not crash their economy…. there are plenty of other endless tonics that plenty of people find valuable. If there’s enough demand, there’s always a way to leverage it.
