You are so out of touch with the current situation that is not even funny. Right now, boderlands are deserted simply because nobody likes the new maps.

I think it is you who are out of touch with what arena net want to achieve with WvW. It is based on RvR style gameplay (which it is obvious you have never experienced). Having smaller maps that make ktraining easier for you won’t make WvW a better experience overall. Look at ESO’s AvA map that is bigger than all the BL’s and EB combined with a much higher player cap (2000 as opposed to ~200) and you can still find action quickly for large and small groups. The problem is that ktrainers won’t learn the new mechanics and that the WvW population has thinned due to the overall game’s stagnation/poor rewards. Don’t think you speak for all of the wvw community, I know lots of folks who feel the same way I do, they just get tired of being blasted by the vocal minority every time they voice an opinion.

The new map is actually amazing when you give it a chance, the fights you can get there are really varied. It just needs a better waypoint system and a minimum of 100 players on it.

Exactly population is the problem not the maps (for the most part). Anet needs to come up with a better way to incentivize people to come out and play. I mean even before the new BL maps were introduced the Alpine BL maps were pretty deserted in tier 1 NA outside of reset, and people seem to forget that.

Siege Troll Discussion

To kick off the brainstorm I’ll throw out this idea:

  1. When a player places a piece of siege they receive a stack of “Exhaustion”
  2. A stack of “Exhaustion” expires after three minutes
  3. If a player has three stacks of “Exhaustion” they can no longer place siege

This won’t work because of practical reasons. I run with a havoc guild group and I am always placing the siege. If exhaustion worked like this it would limit our groups ability to siege/defend with smaller numbers due to the limited debuff. This would once again favor large groups over smaller groups, and I feel that there is enough of that in wvw/eotm already. The most obvious solutions would be to either:

a) Actually use disciplinary action on those guilty of siege trolling
b) Remove the siege cap

Sadly, neither of these solutions seem to be possible for anet. Any passive system I feel would punish players that are not breaking the rules. The best way would be for traditional GM action, based on a simple reporting system. It’s also important to remember that not everyone who uses siege needs to be a commander, and it’s also very easy for a siege troll to get a tag.

Making the populations smaller would cause more people to leave the game (or at least wvw) than to leave their current tier. Compared to other games that have an open rvr type system, GW already has really low map population caps, which really hurts this game mode. Lowering the caps would further damage an already damaged system. As many people have already said making maps larger and removing the AoE limit would help tremendously, sadly Anet can’t do that because Esports.

I’m just wondering if you understand what 80+ people can do in a zerg. We left the map because you sat your fat blob of players on top of keep walls and only pushed us with JQ on our flank. Good fights keep us around, but timid commanders are boring. The 3 way in the BL was fun though.
Though I think Fading was leading that.

For you, maybe. We’ve had half a week of JQ ticking over five hundred in that time slot. What’ll be interesting is JQ v SoR off-peak.

The two large SEA zergs were always MERC and ATM/FOO. Now that MERC bandwagoned to JQ, that SEA is stacked. Wont be too entertaining for either of us.

Don’t want to ruin your moment here but isn’t when you bandwagon the guild goes to the “winning” server?

Yes they do. JQ is absolutely blowing out their current SEA time with 600 ppt. Keep in mind thats against SoS and FA, who usually have a decent showing in that time zone. I cant see how blowout matches can be fun for you T1 guys.

You’re totally free to disagree, but you watch and see. And take a good look around you and look at all the names that are in WvW now, cause if we do draw 2 T1 servers again I’m betting most of the people in WvW now won’t be around, they are here cause they all like the easy fights, when it gets a little hard and we start losing, they will head for the bank steps, that’s just what happened last time.

While I agree with you on letting the little guys come out, I disagree that we had more folks this week than last against BG/SoR. I haven’t had to deal with a queue at all this week except reset night. We’ve been roaming EB instead of the borderlands simply for that reason alone. Hell at 930 cst last night, we had outmanned in EB. During the BG/SoR match up there were queue’s constantly during NA prime time and into SEA. Which tbh, waiting in a queue longer than 5 minutes defeats the purpose of open world pvp in the first place, so I typically find something else to do instead of wait. Maybe it’s the queen’s jubilee, maybe it’s because there isn’t constant zerg action for everyone to faceroll through, idk. Either way, it’s been fun regardless.

So…I have read 7 pages…of people complaining about being stunned..and I cant help but wonder….

Does dodge not work?
Does healing not work?
Did stability get nerfed?
Are stun breakers non existent?

Out of every one of my characters, I have only had problems with my necro and engi….

If this is a problem in Spvp and WvW….why is this thread not in those subforum’s?

My response to this, not directly at you, but in general to the entire community is, is this a bad thing? Finally something to combat the meta condition burst classes in HGH engi and Terrormancers. Finally something that teams can look at and go, your responsible for locking these people down and taking them out of the fight.

People should be punished for not carrying a stun breaker. People have gotten to comfortable with playing this game without any punishment for not carrying a stun breaker, and playing glass cannons expecting sustain. On my Engi bunker I never carried one until recently, there simply wasn’t a point. I never ran into anything that could stun me and burst me down, until now, so I adjusted my build to compensate for this, and now I run a stun breaker to allow me to combat the abilities of the Warrior. It’s a game of adaptability, l2p, adjust your builds, or continue to die.

You’re right. The real problem is that bad players refuse to change and get better, so they come and cry that this build is op even though it has multiple counters. For so long warriors were sub optimal in pvp and were easily countered by almost any build. Now that warriors have a good build that can compete in a 1v1, the bads are flipping out over getting put in their place. What’s really sad is that mace hasn’t changed in any way.

Is this a joke? Rangers and ele’s have plenty of access to stability, which mixed with stun breakers completely counters the skull crack build. Both also have far better sustain than a warrior and both have access to protection.

That happens to give 20s of stability base, and more if you’re built for pvp/wvw. Which is plenty of time to win the fight or run away. I truly have trouble believing you can’t counter this build as my ranger has zero problems with it. Maybe i’ve just been extremely lucky. /shrug

I know of no other action MMORPG that scales as well as this game. There probably is one out there and I would like to hear about it. I know DAoC was close but even it would at best struggle mightily under the fast pace, near constant zerg on zerg fights GW2 offers.

Darkfall routinely has sieges with >1K players in the same area, more than all 4 WVW instances combined. In the same area. Also, it’s an MMOFPS, faster-paced than GW2.

Also, planetside1 & 2, savage 1 and 2… there are quite a few games with faster gameplay and higher player density.

Planetside is a shooter… if GW2 eliminated boons, removed most conditions, streamlined damage types, reduced gear modifiers and made most skills single target they could likely handle Planetside numbers with relative ease. There is A LOT more going on in a GW2 battle than Planetside 1/2.

Darkfall I don’t know much about (never played it). Looking at it quickly it seems it too has a pretty simplified combat system more akin to an FPS than a typical skill based MMO. It also falls under the… if it was so good why aren’t more unhappy GW2 people playing it banner.

In both cases these games were designed from the outset to be near solely PvP and every design decision is based around that.

DAOC in it’s prime could handle numbers of all the BL and EB maps combined in one frontier. DAOC had tons of buffs, debuffs, stats and far more skills than GW2. Yet it managed to be able to handle more players and not have an AoE cap, and it’s over a decade old.

And yet we are playing GW2 and not DAOC. I wonder why. Is it just graphics?

I didn’t play DAOC and not a programmer so I’m being silent in this debate over which engine is superior. But I’m really having hard time believing DAOC engine had to deal with anywhere near same amount of work GW2 one is dealing with.

Just looking at YT DAOC videos battles seem to be so less dynamic than GW2. And i’m not talking about number of skills you need to keep track of and use timely, simply the general feeling of fight dynamics as an independent observer.

On average a typical DAOC toon would have at least 3x the abilities that a GW toon would have. After that you have to look at using positionals, styles and etc. While GW’s combat now is more twitch and active I wouldn’t say it’s more dynamic as there was a lot of work going on with a toon in DAOC. Not just one skill bar and watching dodges. You conveniently didn’t quote the part where I said that I loved GW2 and wanted the best for it, which I do. But I think it’s fair that if you’re going to try and emulate an aspect of the game that one should be criticized when not doing it right. If automobile companies started releasing new vehicles with tape decks in the radio, don’t you think there would be a few complaints? As we all know games change and DAOC went from being the pinnacle of mmo pvp to what EA has made it now, which is why many don’t play it anymore and wish for what it once offered back again.

Sometimes I wonder if the aoe limit is really just another excuse for helping promote skill-less play similar to the downed state. It almost seems unreal that they can’t match the tech of a game that’s over a decade old.

What do you guys think? Do we want more guilds to transfers to the top 4 servers?

As a fellow TC player lets hope they don’t raise the cap. I’m tired of the queue as it is. I mean this past week we got an FA guild for wvw. If they increase the limit more players will continue to bandwagon as they did the last time they raised the cap. If they really care about server population balances they won’t do that.

I just don’t like the fact that no matter what time it is, FA always seems to be outnumbered. I know KN has it a bit worse, but the number of TC on WvW sure is demoralizing me from playing on WvW.

sPvP has set teams with even numbers. You should try that out instead.

Your new CD guilds are spawn camping and dancing on bodies in EB, and when some of us began RP walking and waving at TC, we get zerged, even after we sit and drop a feast. I miss the old TC. Good luck with your transfers.

I’ve had this happen to me twice so far tonight while in big zergs. It’s really annoying as my system can more than handle wvw and the game.

It seems to me that A-Net is trying to cut out or strong arm small guild folks to join a
big guild. This could be avoided by making it possible for guilds to be in a alliance.
In that way a group of small guilds could band together and get done what a large
guild could do.

There is nothing stopping you from forming an alliance with other guilds on your server.

The point, is more, we shouldn’t have to. DIS is a really cool guild(TC here too), but they are a large guild. So you probably wouldn’t understand where those of us in smaller guilds are coming from on this. It’s just a bit disconcerting that Anet would try to strong arm small guilds in pve like this. It takes us a whole lot longer to earn the inf that a bigger guild would get. It’s very sad for us small guys.

Is this kind of dueling against the rules?

Because it was directly hurting players who were taking part in world vs. world as it’s intended. Server cooperation is supposed to be about forming alliances within the rule set of world vs. world, not defeating the entire purpose of world vs. world and ignoring its mechanics.

Always someone who can’t stand other people having a good time. They were just duelling. It’s very popular in our tier(tier 2) and I’m sure it is in other tiers as well. Plus lets be real even if you didn’t have a large points lead over TC(which you do) you guys would PvD the points back in the off hours. It’s all good.

Saying you ran around the map and couldn’t find people? With the new culling I can’t find people standing right in front of me half the time.
Saying you asked in map chat to post if you are there? Ever yelled/or seen others yell at random pugs who keep taking supply even when asked not to take supply from the tower/keep/castle? Some people will just not respond or potential have the channel turned off even.
Saying things like ‘even if only 1/3 of people responded’ is based on what? Its just the fraction someone picked to fit their argument, it has no basis in fact, it could be 9/10 responded or it could be 1/20 responded, there is just no way to know.

I’m not saying there isn’t an issue, there may be, I don’t know, but let’s not waste everyone’s time with fake statistics, fake numbers just makes the entire thread easily dismissed.

Without any response from Anet there can only be speculation and confusion.

What are we supposed to do? People are coming up with thier own theories trying to discuss this obvious problem.

As far as if only 1/3 responded, I never presented it as fact, it was on observation and I was very clear about that, key word/phrases like “if” and “I have a felling” are tells to most ppl that this is an observation, but I have been in WvW enough to guage how many there are now based on how many there were a few weeks ago.

So without any numbers

It is painfully obvious to me that there are far fewer players in a map than there was before the patch and we have a long queue to get in.

The queue could be caused by our push to invite more players/guilds to our server. That said I had a 2 hour queue on Friday for all the borderlands, which seems strange. Following night(Saturday 7pm cst) I had a 5 min queue for TCBL, didn’t try for the others. I can honestly say that 2x I have missed the “push 1 if you’re here” calls in map chat because I was busy with my group. I noticed it in chat later, but just blew it off, I’m sure that I’m not the only one.

Remember when you had to que up to get in to the frontier or Thid for DAOC? Yeah I don’t either…. Crazy to think that a game over a decade old could handle RvR so much better than GW2.

Hello, I was wondering if I could throw this idea out. I really would like to see it to where dungeon tokens(beetletun seals, etc) have their own collectibles tab like crafting items or mini’s. That way they won’t take up a bunch of much valued bank space. Would be just another added plus to an already amazing game.

How do gear stats compare in WvW for a bolstered lvl 80 and a real 80? Is there a huge difference or only minor differences? I’m not sure I understand how it works. What I’m curious about is, will a group of bolstered players have a chance in a 5 v 5 with legit 80 players? How big is skill compared to gear at that point?
