On one hand its kinda cumbersome to use still, since we cant aim in the direction we want to go (this is only a problem when you are immobilized though) so you can put your self in bad situations if you aren’t careful.

But the ability to GTFO of a bad situation really quickly is a godsend, also catching up to fleeing foes that have shadow steps/teleports really helps landing those final bits of damage that they don’t expect.

I’m not sure about this, because it wouldn’t allow counterplay. I’d honestly like it to be a grandmaster trait so the damage could be higher or have added functionality. It is a build defining trait and the current GMs are kinda meh. This way, engis could take Power Wrench and SD.

Would be great if Med Kit skills were just some sort of Aoe skills from the Engineer or from pylons or something. This whole throwing down tiny bandages to be picked up is never going to be effective.

I remember them showing off a preview version that had pylons and stuff that granted boons in a fixed location and what not around the time they were ditching the kit backpacks then the actual patch came out and everything turned into their current ground targeted versions no explanation .

skilled marksman as baseline with 10% damage buff like old rifle mod instead of the attack speed increase would have been a decent start if they really wanted to improve usefulness of rifles.

Fun fact: This skill was bugged when it was first introduced during the specialization patch. Making it so your gadgets had 2 separate cooldowns example: Utility Goggles 30s/Gadgeteer procs it switches to that version which is off CD and had a CD of 25s which stayed that way until you used the gadgeteer charge at which point if the original Utility Goggles was off CD you could get double the up time but if it was not timed correctly you would get 2 cooldowns which would be about double base CD of the gadget.

Fun fact 2 : This was literally the only time since its introduction that A.E.D. was ever useful.

IMO it was better when it was bugged because the long cooldown on gadgets doesn’t justify the active use in most cases, so getting 2 uses made up for that.

Though it would have needed some balancing in terms of op gadgets namely A.E.D. because with Automated Medical Response which was also bugged at the time had a cd of 10s if you were lucky and timed it right you could get like 3-4 A.E.D.s off but situations like that was extremely rare, also Slick Shoes and it could have used a timer like Kinetic Battery so you didn’t get locked out of the Normal Version of the gadget though a work around to that was using 2 gadgets.

At launch i rolled Warrior My first character in Gw1 was a warrior and I loved it so I thought id do the same here fast forward 2 weeks into the games life i was bored and growing tired of how we couldn’t swap around abilities like gw1 skill system.

I rolled an Engineer instantly loved how many skills and subtle nuances it had with those skills meaning there was not a definitive way to approach all situations.

and in return I got almost 4 years of Minor buffs then heavy handed nerfs afterwards and being told straight up “we don’t know what to do with this profession” that I’ve invested nearly 6k hours in and a Hammer.

I still love the profession, always will.

As an Engineer main I haven’t been excited for a balance update since the big trait rework which was cool till the honey moon period wore off..Then began the slow process of the balance devs removing Engineers from the game one balance update a time.

Downstate needs a “Give up” option and abilities should be universal 1 stun or disrupting cc ability 1 heal 1 auto attack.

Almost 3 years now people have been saying give Rocket Boots evade frames or make it a stun break then you guys get a chance to take a real look at the skill..you had a chance to take in 3 years worth of feedback to make it better and give it more “Purity of Purpose”, then buff the Direct Damage…on a Condition Damage focused Escape Skill…what the actual heck.

It doesn’t seem like developers are playing the same game at all anymore.

Rifle as a power weapon kinda meh

As others have said, Rifle was great before HoT power creep.

If Rifle had been designed for HoT:

  • Hip Shot: Higher damage, grants might every third shot.
  • Net Shot: Unblockable, reflects projectiles
  • Blunderbuss: Higher damage
  • Overcharged Shot: No self-cc, or trait that grants stability on use
  • Jump Shot: Higher damage, lower cooldown, evades during travel

These changes would bring Rifle back in line with Hammer as a power weapon opening up a lot of new builds in the process.

Having a unblockable/reflectable Netshot or every First or 3rd Hipshot being unblockable would also solve some of the problems the Rifle faces with the amount of projectile hate in the game post HoT.

Jumpshot with Evade frames would be a dream come true.

The New system is functional in its current form i don’t think it will be good as the old 6-6-2 system until we have more elite specs available though. Why is that taking so long?

You can swap Rifle Turret for PBR for more CC and absurd damage from the rams head+daze toolbelt skill or swap Elixir gun for Utility Goggles but you lose all your condi cleanse and might as well switch to iron blooded but this is not so great, if you running with 2 others and can give up the utility of E-gun for some more burst go for it.

SD isn’t as effective as it was due to the stupid amount of Projectile Hate everything has now and various other reasons but if you can play around that it still works and its still fun.

New cast time is alright, They did however miss the perfect opportunity to rework some of the core engineer heals. Mainly Med Kit and AED.

AED still has such a long cast and a ridiculous 40s cooldown due to this the costs out weigh the benefits here entirely too much.

IMO Med Kit is a waste of code in its current iteration sorry .

This game could use more skill variety their is plenty of ways to introduce it but that’s a subject for another thread.

The new Map is TOO big for a “Borderland” map with 3 copies..Borderlands should promote more skirmishing and medium sized group play and not the big server crippling blob clashes of EB.

Switching the new map to rotate with EB would give it the population it needs to be enjoyable by the WvW community. Spending 40mins wandering around a map uncontested is not fun its basically EOTM that point and that’s not a good place to be.

As with the wings that while available looked bad and were only “fixed” later I might suggest picking the skin up on the chance it’ll get fixed/adjusted.
Better than it being fixed and having to wait a year to get them no?
And I say this wanting cob prices to crash and burn, so you’d better appreciate it!

Seeing as this is free content i don’t see it being changed as fast.

Detection Pulse has 300 Range not the listed 900.

Bulwark Gyro’s Tool Bet skill Defense Field last about 2 or 3 seconds after the shield animation is over.

Not shocked Adaptive Armor was toned down, it was dominating the other Grandmasters in terms of usefulness.

It still does but that’s now because gyros are still unreliable and mostly useless and the extra 10% damage and stab from Perfectly balanced is a drop in the bucket when you consider how much more sustain AA gives.

Med kit was barely hanging on before specialization patch, I liked to run it with rune of the defender back then but now the ground targeting thing pretty much pushed it into the coffin and nailed it shut in my eyes.

The ground targeting trait as a baseline is killing the skill. When that was a standalone trait no one really used it as it was too much clicking or really clumsy even if it provided a substantial amount of extra healing it just wasn’t fun to use.

From day one Med Kit has been the more self heal/upkeep oriented skill but the developers keep forcing it into a group upkeep roll, its not working out that way because players in general not noticing the tonics on the ground and the skill being clunky and to even position tonics in front of people while they are in a battle is tedious and healing turret does it better in every way and with fewer button clicks.

I think the group healing/upkeep should be left to healing turret, Med kit 2,3,4,5 would work better if it was like an elixir kit where you could trait Health Insurance if you wanted to provide AoE Boons/Resistance like Cleansing Pulse in inventions does when you use a healing skill.

TLDNR Make 2,3,4,5 self targeted by default have trait enable AoE effect for party support and increased healing effectiveness.

Well in the Screen i had cleric ammy but before i tested without i got around 5-6k heals without the trait.

Can get about 7.5 with cleric/trait.

Having the same feelings, Ive been trying to find fun things about all the changes but i cant.

I was never a fan of playing condition builds which seems like the only effective thing we have atm and even still, other classes do it better with less APM.

The whining about this being disabled reminds me of the original 100nades Nerf, except a good trait wasn’t gutted in the process of fixing it, like that version of kit refinement and turrets being Overly Nerfed as a whole in a more recent example as a response to a build that was only useful in Spvp in the first place.

Classic situation of the general population not caring about engineer till something is broken or deemed “OP” and Anet being heavy handed in terms of fixing or reducing the effectiveness of said build or skill to the determent of the class as a whole.

About the Portals on Towers/Keeps

Sure, this has saved me from having to run back to a far off location on the other side of the map a few times but more often than not it creates really silly gameplay situations of people abusing the fact that they can just walk in and out of the portals freely if a fight in the area near the tower/keep isn’t going their way. For example we have the the obvious Elementalist downstate Mist Form which renders them basically them immune to stomping barring immobilization if in range of a allied tower/keep portal, some people choose not to fight entirely because the portal is there thus avoiding confrontation and the point of WvW all together.

People in combat can still use the portals..if they were disabled in combat or had a CD similar to the Asura gate in on the Skyhammer this would be more fun and promote better gameplay habbits. Meeting the opposing team on the battlefield should be a Win or Lose situation 1v1, 5v10, Blob v Blob with the way portals work now it just isn’t fun in to have any skirmishes in range of any towers/keeps.

If you have have any better ideas better ideas or reasons why this would be a good or bad change feel free to discuss below.

As it stands AED traited is actually useful considering how burst focused everything is now and people usually don’t pay attention to the AED buff, the 2 different cooldowns is confusing more so if you screw it up you get minimal heals and you are going to be locked out of healing 20-40s.

that’s if AMR doesn’t bug it.

I think the 2 different versions of the skill when traited is fine it adds play to the skill it never got, however the the second burst heal off the trait proc is op. It would be okay if it behaved like a buffed version of Defiant Stance the warrior skill that converts incoming damage to health or it should just give a flat 5-6k hp tons of boons and remove the listed condi.

Also it has tons of counter play, anyone paying attention knows don’t hit this guy for 5s and he gets a poop heal, tbh it punishes people who just mash buttons till whatever is targeted dies more than anything.

I seen this coming yeah, but 28% is kind of wtf..if it was hitting too hard too fast why not put a cast time on it to slow the dps?

its like no thought was put into other ways of fixing its damage output other than “this hits too hard make lower number” now its basically a slow rifle shot with AOE and 1500 range lol

Flat Nerfs are drastic and not well thought out.
