Guild Wars 2

I sit here 2 years after GW1 demise, thinking to myself.. Man I miss those days.

The days when you actually needed to have a team to do anything good, sure it was elitist a little, sure it was hard to make it within the top 50 guilds (100 at its peak) sure it was hard to hold halls of heroes for more than 1 round, and teams ganking each other, and forming alliances.. But my god it was good, and sucked 1000’s of hours from my life..

I dont want to slate the PVP on guildwars 2, if you enjoy it then cool. if it was a new game, i might enjoy it but this was a sequel to GW1, and i was expecting something like GW1….

My question is this.. is there any other game that has anything like Heroes Ascent? GVG? i dont want a button bashing PVP experience.

I wouldnt mind if it had any relevance to what guildwars 1 was..

Very good point though… Guild Wars would imply a fight of guilds.. This should have been called World wars.. or while they are there.. World of… wait.

Stan this game has no relevance to guildwars1 other than characters and the name.. LOL

on a plus side you can jump now.. and run around with 50+ members spending 10 minutes slogging at a wooden gate.

The people that you are talking to, who are in your guild, who dont like it are the persistance ones.. The ones that have played a game they dont like for 6 months now, hoping anet fix it.. The ones you dont get to speak to is the hordes of numbers that quit the game.. or the ones still playing guildwars 1. (there is a huge following and it seems to be growing again). If you played guildwars you would understand. This was meant to be OUR next game, that entised others to come play it.. We had stuck with anet for 5-6 years buying there expansions.. playing daily.. defending our game from the WoW community and also attacking blizzard for there poor game design..

Then anet suddenly forgot about us.. It introduced a jump function.. Ditched the target bar, threw GVG out, put Heroes ascent in the trash, created a area where we could use WOW terms like Zerg…. , destroyed the monk class so many of us enjoyed, Introduced a rip off gold eating machine, made pve so that it was elitist (with fractules) took away my 60 combined skills ,and gave me a choice of 10.. They made is so that i had 80 level’s and i can now jump….

I stood by the side of Anet for years, and i didnt expect them to make this.. In my opinion the name of this game would have been more fitting as “wow2” .. This game represents nothing of guildwars 1..

Look at Call of duty, Battlefield, Diablo, Wow.. do any of them make so much of a change that its hard to recognise what game it is?

I appluad you anet for trying something so huge.. But at the same time i could kick you very hard in the shins for taking my community away from me in guildwars 1, and then allow it to dissapear as they cant stand this game.

This is EXACTLY what the update is.. Make or break, if it doesnt look like the game is heading in the right direction, it will be getting uninstalled and one of the new mmo’s will be getting my attention.

Good post sardonia, Totally agree.. They said they got rid of hero’s ascent as it become an elitist playground (which i kind of agree but no need to scrap the whole gametype), if that was the case what were they thinking with the fractal introduction?

I havent played GW1 and GW2 is now boring for me too. My opinion is that they should instead of some events focus on adding new maps, areas, monsters, quests and rise max levels. If I see whole map there is very much place where put new areas and with this they can raise max level.

Without being offensive, but its these sort of comments that Anet would listen too.. Its not the content, its not how big a level the max grind is, Hell i had fun getting to level 20 in guildwars.. Its not the bosses, its the overall gameplay… and it needs a revamp.. But instead anet will simply follow suit of what others are doing, and before you know it we will have a MR T mowhawk character and a level 150 character..

Guildwars has lost its charm for me.

I think a huge portion of this lies with the research.

They opened up the gates and i remember attending live events, trying to get a word edgeways was impossible.. i tried asking them not to remove the monk, not to get rid of GVG, all the specail things about Guildwars…

However all i could see was the potential new customers (from WOW i presume) saying stuf like “i want to jump”, “more bosses to fight”, “bigger maps”, “email system” etc… If there research team had got more Guildwars 1 players involved.. they wouldnt be having such harsh critism..

This comment is so far from the truth.. I mean, we probably had more skills in no attribute that the whole of the profession for the mesmer.. The art work of this game is magical, the game itself is bad and needs some major changes if they want to keep a big following else slowly 1 by 1 people will drift back to other games.. Im going to give it a few more weeks of my time, before i make the change and invest my time into something more like guildwars 1..

Guildwars 2 was supposed to be a predecessor of Guildwars 1, I can understand them making it a like they did to attract Tera, Wow etc players.. But They have totally forgot there grassroots, and more shamefully there old fanbase.

Moderator, Does anyone who makes the decisions have any clue what is going on? I think surely you could help to be our voice and highlight that there is growing concern that the game is fast becoming old for some people? even those who have played a mmo for 7 years straight… can you advise if they are aware?? Is it pointless talking about it? Do the anet team browse here etc?

I get the impression that they are asking the wrong people what they think can help the game.. Instead of opening it up for millions of people, why dont they sit 10-20 people down, from diffrent game genre, and ask them what they dont like about the game?

Hoping as a community we can make the game grow, Guildwars 1 was EXACTLY the same (in that people moaned).. and turned into a great game.. If you dont complain/moan.. Anet dont know what your gripes are.. if 1,000,000 complained that they didnt have enough loot..
Anet would introduce more loot..

Perfect example:

If i had a sandwich van and people kept moaning as i didnt have red sauce.. id buy some to shut them up and make sure they dont go next door..

Lets say my sauce takes 3 days to arrive… The next day the person comes.. I say nothing, and the next, i say nothing, the next day when the sauce has arrived he doesnt come and hes gone next door.. I made him feel like i dont care.. by not simply saying “ive got sauce on order pal”.. This is what anet are doing by not saying anything and just coming out with a patch randomly.

However if they said nothing and just went next door.. id never know and my sandwich van would be half the sandwich van it could be, thats why many people are negative/moaning (in your opinion)

AV good post mate. But this exactly backs up my point about how people from different background on Guild wars 1 have diffrent perceptions.. And the large pvp background has been left behind.. Sure if you played PVE guildwars 2 looks and is amazing.. I huge… Has a cool story, has some nice skins.. Yeah its good..

But where does that leave me.. The Guy that used to GVG or HA nightly.. The guy that used to enjoy sitting for hours making builds that would sync with my team mates to make a a strong build..

PvE players have been looked after by Anet.
PvP players haven’t. I understand your side, i really do. im not disputing that your right on many levels, but (without sounding like a tool) unless you experienced the side of guildwars that i did, you wont really know where im coming from.. GW2 promised me this thing called e-sports.. which to me fails to live up anywhere near to what the competitive side of gw1 was.

This is why i say in my post that i haven’t give up hope however what we must remember.. Guild wars 1, and 2 are the same company, so for them to start the way they have, there not going to backtrack and bring back things surely..

Aerwyna, did you ever play GVG or HA? Do you not think there is nothing in comparisson to Fissure of woe or Underworld? (i dont ask to be a idoit im just curious, sometimes things read wrong)

There were four sides to guildwars,

PVP
PVE
PVPVE (who liked both pvp and pve)
NONE You hated it.

I was PVPVE.. Guild wars 2 is nearly there but at the same time, so far.., im not interested in WVWVW which required me to bunch up with the largest number.. and find the richest guy on the team to command me to sure death with his command button.. Or even worse.. to not have a huge group and run around getting destroyed by zergs… then having to spend countless coin on repairing.

If i played mainly PVE i could totally understand people enjoying the game, it is a nice game, i think a little on the dark side “if you know what i mean” (world of…) but still its nice..

and the players that hate the game.. well there the PVP community that got left behind when anet forgot to ask them anything… PVP asked for monks, PVP asked for HA, PVP asked for GVG PVP got none of them things.. I know a game is about change, but look at black ops, look at halo.. its a sequel, they keep the trait.. Guildwars threw EVERYTHING about pvp out.. and started from fresh…. which meant many hate it, many love it.. when they could have kept both communities happy by just listening.

Im sitting on the fence of this, I understand people who say “i dont like the game” as i dont… yet if you didnt see the potential in it.. why bother posting on here..

Im on your side.. The game isnt right.. It seems Anet concentrated on trying to get a new fan base from other game genre, rather than listening to its old beloved guildwars 1 fanbase..

That being said, Anet can make changes to the game, and im hoping they do, The majority of people who like WOW will continue to play WOW untill they dont support it.. However us GW1 Faithfull will only stick around in GW2 for so long.. ill continue to play untill i give up hope anet have stopped listening, which i dont think they have as there working on PVP.. which currently lacking somewhat..

Some people liked Power rangers, Others preferred Teenage mutant hero turtles..

We all like diffrent things.. For me… Which is all that i care about, I dont enjoy it as much as i did gw1.. The game feels like its the offspring of a Guildwars 1, and a World of Warcraft breeding programme.. Does that make it a bad game? to some yes.. to me.. no..

It means that i dont enjoy it on the same wave length as guildwars 1. I Really didnt like world of warcraft it was horrible.. This game like i said, is a crossbread so i dont enjoy it but dont dislike it..

Any hardcore GW1 player who hated WOW.. im sure will feel not as enthusiastic about this game, as others do.. Everyone who played guildwars1 casually with a bit of wow.. I understand why your not complaining.

Why do we make threads like this then… If you dont know, you will never know.. Were hoping Anet will listen to its Old, Beloved fan base, and make changes.. its a new game.. just like Guildwars 1 was when i brought it.. They slowly adepted it so everyone was happy..

I played 5 years of Hero’s acent, I loved it.. What has GW2 got that i can play similiar to that? Or GVG infact?? Thats why we come on and people make threads like this.. To share our opinion with ANET.. Everyone who had WOW, or PVE in guildwars 1 has little to complain about… You can jump, you can graft all day for skins, you can run around and raid with huge zergs in pvp, you can do dungeons, you drop loot.. its a win win for you.. But Anet seems to have forgotten about a group of the hardcore players, and thats us from PVP…

If im wrong… Why has Guildwars 1 got guild (im currently there) still competing in MAT’s and playing GVG? HA is dead granted (as less people play ti you have no chance to get to the Hall of Hero’s ) But theres over 200 Guilds that still compete in the ladder.. Is it because they cant afford to buy GW2? nope.? 90% of people own it… Its because GW2 forgot about pvp and looked at what people from other franchises liked.. Business is a dog eat dog world, and the intent of this game was to keep there fanbase, but entise from other game types aswell. Sadly i think a little too much focus was put on trying to grow there fanbase than keep there current one.. Ill continue to play, and stick with anet, as i hope they do the right thing and listen to us.

On a serious note im sure you will get it sorted.. i cant see something like this going on, as it would surely make people not want one.

If this would have happened to me i would have been quite annoyed, Anet do need to fix these sort of things.. What they must understand is that as they have introduced a “cash to virtual” exchange system.. everything get a lot more serious..

Although items are still virtual, people hold a Cash value againt them..

You pay $500 for gems, which you convert into gold, which you buy a exotic weapon and complete the transmutating. you in effect lose gold, which means you lost the point of spending cash… If people want to waste there own gold. then so be it.. but if anet’s bugs/changes make you poorer.. Then in effect its no diffrent to stealing..

You could say there making you poorer so you buy more gems if they continued to have issues like this, and dont correct them or keep you up to date. Its pritty serious stuff to be honest.

How long are you taking making your characters? I take along time aswell making mine (i like to adjust nose etc etc) but i never get this issue.

I only bring this up, as it might be a indivdual thing to you, or a thing to the character your making, (elementlist/guardian etc). If you give some more information might help anet fix it.. Does it happen on all types of characters and how long roughly does it take for the issue to occcur?

OK not to scare monger but be very careful purchasing gems with gold from Black Lion trade.

2-3 days ago i was buying some gems in lots of 400, to unlock bag spaces for extra inventory. Half way through a message for no more than 2 seconds, popped up, i could see it was something about connecting or connection, but it was very fast so i couldn’t get a good look. I had a move around and continued to chat to others, and jump about in lions arch, before buying one last lot of 400 gems to treat my favorite Guardian, and logged for the night.

In total that day i spent 14gold on gems, however had a Serious amount of gold in my inventory. I went to bed, and woke up in the morning to see that i had no gold in my inventory.

I know some of you will say that you’ve been hacked.. I know i wasn’t.. How.. Well i have i.p addy confirmation firstly. And secondly it has been confirmed that something has gone wrong (i have a support ticket open)..

The support staff have been most helpful so far, and i hope it continues that way, Its not fully resolved, and we have come to a stage where I’m slightly concerned as I’ve received 14 gold back to my account.. Which is a tiny percent of the gold which was left in my inventory. I’m hoping this was not the final settlement but if it is, i think something might have been overlooked by support which we can address later..

Anyway, I warn you that when buying gems, be very careful how much money you have in your inventory, Bank some of it off.. take a screenshot and make your purchase.

Alot of hard work is involved in this game to get your hands on gold (if that working for cash, to buy gems or grinding it is irrelevant how time is spent). So lets hope Anet correct re-imburse me with the correct amount of gold, and fix the issue to prevent others going through what i am.

Moderator/Admin: I understand that this is a support ticket(which is raised, and i am dealing with along side this thread), and notice that you close down a lot of tickets. For public interest i believe this ticket should be kept open, to highlight to others firstly, to make them aware of this issue and secondly how when these problems occur how they are addressed.. Which so far has been very well. I understand that there is a reason for closing threads, but on some of them, where they are serious issues it appears tickets are closed to try and hide issues, or peoples opinions, which is slightly wrong as this a forum for us to highlight issues, weather that is with the game, the staff, or any other factor relevant to what we purchased. My primary concern is to share with others my issue so they are vigilant when buying gems. I am not the first, or the last to have this happen to them (a quick Google shows so) so there is obviously something adrift.

my total age on guildwars 1 was 391 days over 6 years.

Cant see this being anywhere near that. Not even 1/10 unless they bring back some sort of Heroes ascent.

no… thats not me laughing… thats me chanting for hereos ascent…. i have no incentive or motivation to play pvp of any sort…

WVWVWV is too random for me… run around with a zerg and you will be ok – u dont even have to press buttons.

the PVP lacks, Loot chest would be a god send.. and mean teams would want to form, and stay toghether for a 5+ run not play 1-2 games and the quit as there mate wanted to go farm a boss. leaving you to pick up a useless randomer, that is playing a test build.. costing you a loss..

Granted PVP is about fun.. But anyone who plays PVP has a COMPETATIVE side to them..
having nothing to compete for.. defeats the object..

we are the bug team, its our responsibility to identify them and bring it to anet attention.. (if we dont, we put up with them). Every game works like this. Guildwars 2 is new.. and Guildwars 1 was the same..

Poe, Can i just ask what idea your talking about? I can see people discussing the terms and conditions, and also people talking about how the sale advertising is done..

But i dont see anywhere what is the worse idea?

Nobody has complained about subscription charges, nobody has complained about the idea of buying items. Where on earth have you got the monthly fee stuff from?

Your comment makes no sense what so ever, and rather than being a discussion/debate about sales, advertising, refund policy and general etiqute.. you have just rambled on as if were talking about how we dont get cool stuff like wow players do.. which we clearly are not.. I see many of these comments made and its usually somone looking for a fight. Lets not hope this is the case here, as i would appriecate this thread being open for others to express there issues with the gem store, and general support of paid virtual items (which currently i believe is non existant).

To sum up so far we have talked and debated about;

How advertisement for sales is completed.

Terms and conditions on refunds for sales.

How Anet are able to sell virtual good for real cash, but not provide any support for loss of virtual goods if THEY cause a problem (i.e loss of valuable item/gold/gems due to bug)

Please read the full article were not bashing anet, i like the game (not as much as gw1).. its new and things will be bumpy, but without talking about it anet will NEVER know how the community are feeling.. I joined in as i read in so many posts about people having issues with customer support reffering everything to terms and conditions, and not supporting people for there virtual goods, (gems/weapons/gold) when people are paying cash for them which is slightly relevant (although was a little bit of a hijack – i appoligise).

However that being said, my issue at the moment seems to be getting resolved very well.

Ive started playing guildwars 1 again, its suprising how many people still play the game still.

I wish anet would have done with it, and bring a monk back, also i cannot explain how much Hero’s Ascent is missed Lets hope they do something in the pvp update coming out in the next month or two..

I agree with the second part of that 100% its all about confidence, Its a huge market for GW2, and the smallest of problems will get people running when it comes to real cash if there is no protection.

If people experience a problem, and get pointed to these terms and conditions constantly, rather than having a common sense approach to things. Then people will eventually get bored of spending there cash, and either give up on the game, or purchase from “non registered third part companies” that carry the same risk. Granted you have the added factor of getting banned. I dont condone this, and would not recommend going to a third party.. But if people constantly get scolded by anet, people will hunt for alternative methods of getting the items they want.

Sorry i removed my post ridley as i was unsure how a anet admin might have seen it, and could have taken it the wrong way.

Its slightly immoral in my opinion, but business is ruthless i suppose.

Theres a few issues with Guildwars 2 Gems and trading

When you stop and view how Guildwars 2 provide support we would be crazy to buy

For example..

Lets say you spend £100 ($160) on gems.. You then trade it for gold.. (i dont know how much you would have in gold lets say 100). So you have 100 gold.

You then hit one of the common bugs, meaning you lose all your gold. You seek redemption and re-embursment for the items.

In the Terms and conditions it states that they wont credit your account back.. you would have had more fun burning your money…

Until Anet think of us as customers, who are paying hard earned cash and offer us protection against sales, i personally wont be buying again. What sort of shop would say to you “if you buy this box, and its empty, or its broken tough”??

Guildwars 2 requires half the skill that Guildwars 1 required to be succesfull in HA, GVG, and PVE. In my opinion it should read

Guildwars was designed to be about fun for all and not GEAR or SKILL
