I run everything fine on low settings whenever I’m doing temples, dragons or WvW. My eyes adjust and don’t even notice the poor graphics quality after 5 minutes. You can’t compare an MMO’s graphics and rendering capability with an FPS, an FPS game doesn’t need to track the data of hundreds of skills, conditions, boons, combo finishers and hundreds of players in bottlenecked areas with no multi-core support.

Man, sry for this, I know I’m rude, but you are idiot -

My eyes adjust and don’t even notice the poor graphics quality after 5 minutes

- and after 2 years you will need to ajust dioptre.

Second – FPS is frame per second or first-person shooter – both are not related with the game platform, so you are writing nonsense. By the way tracking data is not related with your PC, but with servers and internet connection. So, lagging in WvW is caused from two things. One is the old engine, which hardly handle a lot of visual effects at the same time, other is servers – number and location. Like I said, the problem is not in your computer.

This game uses old engine, so it cannot be optimized more, cause it’s optimized already. Why Anet decided to use GW1 engine as a base, I have no idea. But all you see now is very optimized graphics of old engine. Old engine is the reason you never see mounts here, and the reason WvW is lagging like hell. The problem is not in your machines, it’s in game. That’s why you cannot compare GW2 with other new MMOs, it’s irrelevant. At the same time you can play GW2 with very crappy GPU, so old engine has some priorities too.

problem is there an official explanation of what constitutes a sandbox? cause its more like a concept than something tangible.

Lol, seems pointless to talk with you. If you are not right you just start explanations and leaves without figs. GW2 is not a sandbox, it’s clear. The main elements of sandbox are missing. There is no matter /effect on the game world/ if you play it or not, or how long you play it. You have no property, there is no tournaments /this thing with arenas is everything else but not a tournament, cause at the end nobody wins, ppl just play it/, you cannot build, and your actions change nothing in the game. If I don’t help the villagers to stop centaurus, they will not start to hate me, my decision will change nothing. It’s clear, that Anet lie in their advertisement, when promised a sandbox game. And it was a great advertisement. Yesterday some player say GW2 is the best game he ever played. So I asked him how many mmos he ever played, and he told me – one, this one. GW2 is a good ad, but it’s not sandbox mmo. Anet just set the cart before the horse. They had to create a good game and then to advertise it, not vice versa.

For starter the game was never promised as a sandbox at all. It was promised as theme park thats has sandbox elements. Personally I feel thats exactly what they delivered.

For starters sandbox are not about changing the world at all. For example GTA is considered a sandbox and you dont change anything in the world there. The actual difference between theme park and sandbox is theme park provide a clear path you have to follow.

Man, you are totally wrong. GTA never been a sandbox, it’s open world, which is something different. Most MMOs now are open world, but that doesn’t make them sandbox. Sandbox is a game in which you change the things when you play, not only personal story but the whole game. Eve is a sandbox, Minecraft is a sandbox, Archeage and Black Desert are games with many sandbox elements, Lineage 2 is game with some sandbox elements, at other site WoW is a themepark, and for sure GW2 is clean themepark. But like Anets show us banners with mounted dolyaks, which are only “art”, they are talking all the time about players who are changing the game world. The question is – do Anets believe in their own words /which shows they are incompetent/ or all is just advertisement /which makes them liars/. Yes, I’m a little bit angry, cause they sold me themepark game in a sandbox pack.

This game was promised as a sandbox MMO, but it’s not. It’s clean themepark. The difference between both is the interest. In themepark you play for losing time, or some statistics – GW2, in sandbox you play more, cause you change the game world. So many ideas in this game fail cause it’s themepark. Dynamic events fail, great bosses fail, WvW fail and etc. If you play or not, this change nothing in GW2. But Anet made other mistakes /for me/ too. They implement so much PvE solo, which with 4 guilds system, and lack of 1vs1 PvP, makes GW2 even not a real MMO, but some kind of classic single player game put on an online platform. That’s why I think GW2 will fade soon after the new generation MMO’s start.

GW2 is doomed to failure when games as Archeage and Black desert come online. This game has too much imbalances, bugs, and fundamental problems to be competitive to real mmos. So I’m not surprised it will have no expansions. GW2 is good for losing time, nothing more. Sad that other companies decided to follow GW2 model. I’m talking about Neverwinter and Elder Scrolls. These two, like GW2, are online not mmo games – some new genre

This is not an evidence, this is an anecdote. And the fix is simple – removing auto-target of summoned creatures. Summons here can’t lose target, this is one more imba bug. If someone want to play summoner he shall be good enough to command not only his hero, but the summons too. And Anet can fix it, like they fixed bugged thieves.

WoW and GW2 are the same crap for me. I stopped playing both, after realized, that the whole endgame is grind for gear and achievements. So PvE and PvP are pointless. From MMO I’m expecting much more, like politics, fame, respect, friendship, community and the most important – to play together and vs ppl – not mobs. Here, in WvW, even opponent players are bent to nameless and speechless mobs. Koderius, you were very patient, I think.

I want Lineage 2 with better gameplay, better combat, better graphic, and less grind. In fact I think I found it, but not here.

GW2 has one big problem, and all you wrote here can’t fix it. The problem is that everything in this game is pointless. Very much like in WoW. L2 is different cause it makes you play – not for daily grind, but for fame, for friendship, for wins and respect, just like in real life. That’s why ppl who make games never shall listen the players.

I personally feel that there is a lack of competition

I personally feel that there is a lack of competition

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ikcen.7518

The real reason for the lack of competition is that GW2 is not a MMO. Like many other online games these days. So, ppl who want to play RPG and to lie themselves they are online with other ppl, like it. But simple truth is that most of you play it alone, cause game is made to be played alone. If you ever played a real MMO like Lineage 2, you will know the difference. And it is huge. In most MMO you shall grind like hell, but it’s worth it. Cause at the and you have very social, very competitive and very interactive game in which you play with other ppl, not with mobs.

This game is beautiful.

Black Desert is amazing. GW2 is not bad, but I don’t like many things in design, like too many ships onshore, whole design of WvW, and mishmash of styles. GW2 has no soul, it has something to every player, from laser swords and anime characters, to auto-guns and medieval elements. For me this is lack of good design. Instead design Anet tried to make the most mercantile game ever, or let say it honestly – game like WoW. (Pandas are the top of mercantile stupidity)

This is pretty much a solo game...

Solo is not a MMO, if you like Solo, why you play online? If this was Lineage 2 with Olympiad and 1vs1 PvP, I will understand you – you like to beat other ppl, even it’s only online. But here, you sound ridiculous and in fact your post is incredibly stupid. And yes GW2 is a solo game, it’s not a MMO, and that’s why I don’t like it. If I want to play solo I will play Skyrim or Devils may cry.

What do you want from a MMO game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ikcen.7518

Ikcen.7518

And cause I asked, I will tell you what I want. I like other players to know my name, to find new friends, and others to have respect and fear me. I like to win vs good opponents, to be in group vs scary, mighty and smart raids, to take good rewards for raids and quests, and to take good drop from players. I like to be a part of something bigger, like a guild, and to help my guild to prevail over other guilds. I like my gaming to change the world in which I play. For me all this is essential of MMO.

And I’m not asking for RPG, the question is about MMO.

My first impressions of Guild Wars 2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ikcen.7518

After WoW, Lineage 2, Aion, GW1, LoTR and Darkfall, I can say that GW2 is a crap, sry.

At first impression the game is good, but this feeling goes away fast. After lvl 80 you have nothing to do. At all, GW2 is not a real MMORPG, it’s a mishmash, with good RPG, and bad MMO. But if I want to play RPG I will play Skyrim. GW2 is very unsocial, guilds are pointless, raids too /and bigger ones are dump/, PvP is pointless, no real tournament /Like Olympiad in L2/, WvW is pointless – soon after the first time it becomes just incredible grind, with no reward.

GW2 lacks of most important futures for every MMO – fame, need of group, need of communication, group and individual competition. I like other players to know my name, to have respect and fear me. I like to win vs good opponents, to fight one vs many, to be in group vs scary, mighty and smart raids, to take good rewards for raids and quests, and to take good drop from players. I like to be a part of something bigger, like guild, and to help my guild to prevail over others. For me all this is essential of MMO. I think, ppl who like this game don’t like MMO’s at all, they want some RPG online, and with GW2 they have it.

Now I’m not playing, but I’m looking for one game, which will be released next year – Black Desert Online, which seems will have all I want from a MMORPG.

In my opinion, this game requires too much grind

There is no, and seems never will be implemented, 1vs1 in this game, so why you want best gear? You don’t need it in fact. And if you don’t need it, grinding is your own choice. This game is for fun, there is no points or reasons to play it. It is just for fun – whatever that means.

WoW or GW2 – the same crap. This game has some good moments in fact, but all other things are totally wrong. And cause this is a positive thread – things I like – connection between skills and weapons, idea for skill development using the skill /both are old but anyway/, the idea for dynamic events /but implementation is bad/, dodge fight, the idea for WvW /same – bad implementation/, some story lines in dungeons, some gear designs, jumping puzzles /the only thing Anet made really good in this game/.

But the fact is, that even I can invent better game for few hours. For me Anet are total amateurs.

After GW2 I’m not so sure that grind is bad. If we compare L2 and Aion, L2 is much more grind. But grind is not only leveling, it’s boring gameplay. So GW2 is not grinding game for 80 lvls – about 2 weeks. After that GW2 is total grind. And it’s pointless grind. If I have to choose, grind for leveling is far better.

It’s a totally new experience, more realistic, and with much more fun.

Have you tried fighting destroyers with a guardian ? That’s a nice little chunk of your damage that goes bye bye, especially if you specced for it. And it’s not like you could use something else like an elementalist switching to an attunment that doesn’t rely on burning, virtue of justice is there all the time and cannot be changed.

So before you start accusing the devs of laziness or failed logic and saying this is something that needs fixing, ask yourselves if you really want a game where you can loose half your effectiveness depending on the nearby ennemies. When I see how some people react to the Risen being a bit hard I can only imagine what sort of righteous fury some of the ‘realism’ discussed here would cause.

Making creatures immune/more resistant to certain conditions or damage types was possible in GW1 because changing your whole build before going anywhere was the way to play the game. I don’t think anyone would like GW2 to become a simulation game.

You are absolutely right. And the game will be even better if there is only one type of monsters, maybe some very scary rabbits. And if you can kill hundreds of them with one hit, this will makes you feel strong. And no need to change the build

Some fixes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ikcen.7518

Ikcen.7518

How to make this game playable after level 80? I suggest some fixes.

First – new class of craftable only gear. Something over epic, with maybe more 100 very hard levels of crafting. And components shall drop in lower areas too, with lower chance of course. This will fix the economy.

Second – smarter raids. Smaller but flexible dragons, which hit when they fly. And new AI, which makes raid to attack player who does higher damage.

Third – 1vs1 PvP tournaments in the Mists, with good rewards, and Hero status for winners – which means special chat channel and map icon, like commanders one, and special buffs like 1 minute immortality for example /you know the flame buff from WvW/. New type of group matches, with no resurrection – winner is team with last standing player.

Fourth – names, and chat between opponents in WvW. Longer timings for fortifications, period during which they cannot be conquered, and possibility players from one server to fight each other – Guild wars. Better rewards for guilds owning fortifications.

I know many people here will say they don’t like these fixes. But in fact most of the players have no idea how to make a game. And I bet these changes will make the game playable again.

Well, someone had the imagination to come up with this list:

http://guildwars2hub.com/features/editorials/80-things-do-level-80

Have you done all that? Or are you someone who just does Fractals all the time and then says there’s nothing to do?

Cheers.

I will try to explain you, like I’m trying to this amateurs from Anet by two months. This shall be a MMO, not a Tetris. If I play Tetris I can make level after level till max level, because the idea is to reach max level. In MMO I play because there is other people in game too. All the things in your list have nothing to do with other players. Some points, some levels, some ranks, and yes I made most of them. But who cares? I can make same kind of things in Skyrim, with better graphics, and better gameplay. But GW2 shall be MMO. What makes from one game a real MMO? Interaction between players. Like I said good games make you act, in best games you choose how to act, but motivation factors are implemented in the game. In GW2 you can choose how, but there is no need to. And about interaction, it’s the same story. You can do it, but no reason in game to do it. Easy and stupid raids. No big rewards. Easy gold, no real economy, so in fact you don’t need the gold. Anonymous and bugged mass PvP. Boring party PvP. Lack of 1vs1 PvP. No competition between players and guilds both. Lack of real tournaments. Lack of Heroes. There is some single player PvE, not very original story line, some dungeons. Ah, and some group dynamic events, which are not exactly what Anet promised – unique experience for everyone – cause events reiterate. Same village is burned from Centaurus over and over again. In fact GW2 is very stupid game, and definitely it’s not the game Anet promised in their manifesto. So you can imagine this is a great game, but it’s only your imagination dude.

@Mackdose – “Such as? Don’t say “grind” because the grind in GW2 is faaaar less than other MMOs of late.”

Nope sorry. GW2 is a HUGE grind and the amount of hours you need to put in. Doing dallies in WoW takes a lot less time and it doesn’t take much to get to revered which is all you need if you “want” the gear. Maybe two tops for your profession recipes. To say GW2 is faaaaaaar less is a joke.

Depend of area. In PvP the best is thief, in PvE – elementalist. In both guardian and mesmer are very good. Guardian is most balanced profession. Elementalist is best damage dealer. If you play in group best are elementalist and guardian.

Is this game destined to be an E-Sport?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ikcen.7518

Ikcen.7518

The problem is not the number of arenas or even disbalances. The link you gave, shows Anet thinks in WoW direction. But WoW never been an e-sport, and it can’t be one. For e-sport you need competitive game play, which almost lack in GW2. What we have here – no specific class functions. There is no clear tank, damage dealer or healer. So you don’t need a team in fact. This makes that game very good for 1vs1 PvP. But, and I have no idea why, Anet doesn’t implemented such a mode, and seems has no plans to do it. The way, sPvP is made now, shows very retrograde thinking. Teams fight for points in small area, making the same things /capturing points/ over and over again. After few hours it becomes boring. The idea is clear – to take a spot shall be equal to make a good shot in basket – but it’s not. The future of e-sports is they will become closer to real ones. PvP is not basketball or football, it’s a fight. So Anet shall look at sports like american football, fencing and boxing.

I don’t see why any MMO game released this year must have levels and areas for them. Levels are something from first games – 40 years old rule, which makes playable only 10% from the map. If there is no levels people will play on 100% of map. This is MMORPG or it shall be. MMO- means gaming with many other players, RPG means to choose alone how to play. Nor for first neither for second you need levels. Levels are from Tetris where you reach the max level and turn the game over. But people from gaming industry, including these in Anet, make almost same games from years, they not need levels, but they have no idea how to make it without levels. And to make new type MMO is so easy.

How this game becomes best of the year, I can’t get it. Most of old games are far better. And yes, Diablo 3 was a big failure, no matter of millions copies sold. But GW2 is a failure too. Best part of this game is advertising. Seems gaming industry is in a huge crisis, cause I can invent better game from GW2 before noon.

This is me, for all players which I help, slaying them in WvW
I release this, cause I hate anonymity, and I want enemies to know who kills them or who they kill. Server Ring of Fire. Guild PI.
