I don’t crash on any other game. None, at all.
Been playing since Day 1, still crashes.

I stopped playing for awhile due to the constant crashes becoming unbearable. The only way to play the game without crashing was to un-overclock my CPU (it’s the only thing that’s overclocked) back down to 2.8GHz. Are there any fixes at all yet for the overclock crash?
It’s not just the game that crashes, by the way. Whenever it “crashes”, it crashes everything that’s running. Firefox, Steam, Xfire, etc. Anything that’s running. After everything that’s running crashes (even if nothing else is running), my screen goes haywire, giving me a ton of different colors, boxes, etc.

Honestly, the thing that comes to mind every time I see a thread like this is
“I’m going to rush to 80 and not care about what happens during the rush because max level lol.”
Did you even do anything other than grind out to 80?
You’ve installed the gecko stuff it warns you about, yes? Also try installing IE
Hint: winetricks
I have winetricks but IE isn’t listed, so. How does one install IE using winetricks?
I would stick with blues and greens (greens being better), but I wouldn’t waste money on getting green weapons since you’ll be leveling up fairly quickly.
I think it’s Grey<White<Blue<Green
Today I decided to be ambitious, and tried to run the game on wine. It doesn’t run too terribly bad, although it’s not as fast as I’d like it to be. Anyways, to the point.
The Trading Post doesn’t load. Whenever I open the TP screen, the loading icon just stays on, nothing actually shows. I’m assuming it’s an html/browser issue, but is there any workaround for this?

Since I have the same issue, I’ll go ahead and reply. Yes, my system is overclocked, and yes, I tried running it without the overclock, with the same results.

For one, you’re running a 64 bit OS on 2GB of RAM.
Have you tried using -repair to repair the installation?
Yeah, I’m sure everyone who has FPS issues is going to go build a new computer to be able to play a $60 game.
You didn’t “fix” your fps issue. As someone else said, you just bought new hardware.

Sounds to me like a shadows issue.
Just because it has been shown to be overclocked to 4.4 doesn’t mean it will be stable when overclocked. There are many other variables to consider, like differences in the motherboards, voltages etc. Overclocking is a risk, if you are getting BSODs then it’s probably safe to say it’s due to the overclocking. One way to tell for sure is to set it back to stock speed (set everything back to stock in BIOS as well) and see if you still get BSODs. If not, then yes, it’s because of overclocking.
WARNING!!!: I would not recommend overclocking components unless you are well versed in the subject. Beginners can easily fry hardware by overclocking. If you plan on being an overclocker, I would first recommend you read up on the subject (read, read, read). Also make sure you become as familiar with your hardware as humanly possible (again, read , read, read). Knowing what the limitations of your hardware will only help to keep you from inadvertently frying a component.
i know the basics, keep temps low and dont increase voltage if your a noob. is there anything else thats very important?
You know not to increase the voltage, so that’s good. However, if you were to run your CPU at those speeds, you’d HAVE to increase the voltage. In otherwords, you won’t be able to run it that fast. Try running it at around 3.7GHz or 3.8GHz first, and if that’s stable, slowly creep your way up from there.
FPS limiter set to 60, but im getting 32 fps

The limiter keeps it from going ABOVE 60, not below it. Hence the root word, limit.
ASRock boards aren’t very good to overclock on.
Overclocking without any computer knowledge whatsoever isn’t exactly a good start either. It’s like throwing a turbo on a car without knowing what it does, how it does it, or what’s needed to do it.
If you don’t even know how to OC through your BIOS, you definitely shouldn’t OC using AMD Overdrive, especially to that high of an OC. Unless you increase your voltage (which you obviously shouldn’t), that CPU won’t be stable. I suggest you un-overclock your CPU asap, and look for a guide on how to do it right.
I don’t play in Windowed Mode, so it would seem the Nvidia card is the problem then. That’s really unfortunate. If that is the case, do we have an ETA on when it will be supported properly by GW2?
I don’t believe so. This is an issue on Nvidia’s side, not A-nets.
Same counts for the OP, the GTX 690 is basically SLI
I think it’s two GPUs on one board, but yes.
Yeah, same here bro…
i7 3930k @ STOCK
Asus Rampage IV Extreme
32 GB Quad Channel DDR3 at 1600Mhz
2 x Nvidia Geforce GTX 680 SLI
256GB SSD 6GB/s Main + 3TB Storage
Win 7 Prof 64bitAs you can tell, not much a difference in our spec.
Guess what, i get kitten FPS too in WvW… (everything set to max)
Anyways, welcome to the club, your PC is fine, don’t worry about it. It’s the engine of gw2 and the current nvidia drivers.
You’ve got a double whammy here. SLI will obviously be an issue for a little while since GW2 isn’t yet supported by it, and as I previously stated, the game seems to be having issues with 6XX cards, but mainly the high-end ones.

I am not so sure why installing it in the Programs Directory would cause problems, but if it fixes it not doing that, who cares!
Windows likes to treat programs in the “Program Files” folders almost like they are system files, so it severely limits access to them. Sometimes you can get around the issues by having an administrator account or running programs/games as the administrator, but even that is problematic. So programs that constantly have to modify/update their data files have issues – like many games and their habit of installing lots of patches, creating temp files, deleting temp files…
So for games (and other programs) that do a lot of file access and need to create, delete, and modify files a lot, it’s always better to keep them out of the Program Files folders to keep Windows (and some anti-virus software) from interfering with the game’s normal operation.
With that being said, could the game just be moved to a different location, or have to be completely reinstalled?
I’m pretty sure this is an nvidia GTX 6XX series issue. Also, avoiding the Alienware hatred is nearly impossible, but people might be nice since you asked nicely to be excluded from it. (Although you probably paid a thousand dollars or more too much for it.)

The only worry I have is I’m a complete hardware idiot and I don’t know how effectivley I could build a pc.
It’s really not hard unless you get a complicated case, which most cases aren’t. The hardware comes with instructions for how it goes together, and if something doesn’t fit somewhere, then that’s probably not where it goes. A quick search on youtube would probably yield a video on assembling a computer.

That puts you around £759.92, not sure if that includes shipping or not. If you were to go with an AMD CPU/Motherboard, you’d probably have £100-ish to reallocate.
I wouldn’t go by the first products you see, so have a friend or someone who knows decent prices to help you. I’m not in the UK, so it’s harder to determine prices there.
Edit: You’d probably have to change something, I forgot to add a case. -facepalm-

Dual-Core AMD Athlon II P340 Processor- 2.2GHz – As already stated, your CPU is underpowered for this game.
3072MB RAM – You may want to consider bumping up to 8Gb of ram. This is possible to do for under $50 USD.
AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 – Your GPU is also underpowered for this game.
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit – OS is good to go.As for what Ceallach stated, I suspect you’ll spend closer to $750 to purchase a system that will run this game smoothly on moderate settings. You can usually find some decent, budget machines on http://www.tigerdirect.com/ and http://www.newegg.com/. You will definitely want to shop around. Don’t take the first deal that you come across. If you’re in a sizeable city, you may want to consider looking into a local independent computer shop as well.
As for building your own system, you can easily do it yourself. As long as you know how to handle the hardware and install your own software, and can find wholesale parts you should be able to build a decent system for a fitting price.
I’m pretty sure he’s from the UK, so I think that newegg/TD won’t work.
Id be willing to say just as many if not more people game on Linux than mac.
Well, you’ve got people who, like me, hate Apple, so won’t use Mac.
Then, you’ve got people who use Linux because it’s free, and people who use Linux because it’s quicker, smoother, and nicer than Windows overall.
I’d be all for games moving to Linux, personally.

Knowing what your budget is would help a LOT.
I’ve had a similar issue. Quoting only shows up on certain topics for me. It’s a bit random, and it’s a bit frustrating.
If you played GW1, you’d already know that. The last kill I had on GW1 was a Raptor Nestling, and it actually dropped a black dye. I wish the same luck could be brought here.
I highly doubt that a Linux client is coming anytime soon (I’m not saying never) due to the high amount of issues with the two current clients.
That’s one of the problems. I was hoping to make more gold by getting decent dyes than I would just converting the gems to gold.
Risk didn’t equal reward, at least this time.
Q.Q
I have like 72 silver right now, I won’t really have access to any decent form of gold income (apart from gathering) anytime soon…
hm.
Personally, I’ve stuck with Norn. I’ve even brought my new toons over to the Norn areas to level up. The city I hate most is actually Rata Sum. I fell threw the hole at the bottom of the city and took about 12,000 damage.
On my level 2 Asura.
Two or three days ago, I bought four dye packs (800 gems, or $10) hoping for at least one decent dye. I didn’t get ANY that I liked. I was mainly hoping for a black, but I didn’t even get a dye that sold above 75s. Although I know that dye drops are “world drops”, people seem to be able to get them faster by concentrating on one area.
@ Anyone who “farms” dye, where do you get it and what level range is the area?

From the op:
VirtualBS: You need to understand that this crash often locks up the computer before it is able to throw a blue screen, as illustrated by my issues and skeletank or create a minidump.
Quite often there is no stop code for us to diagnose with or dump to run bluescreen view with.
Im still hoping a dev will weigh in on this topic.
The thing I’d be afraid of for you is getting a build set up, and then have crashes issues like 1/8th of the GW2 population. Although as someone else said, building a computer is cheaper than buying a pre-assembled one, and can be funner as well.

Okay thanks for the answers. I wasn’t sure since- as you rightly assumed I didn’t build this pc myself and any talk of pc hardware makes my head spin. Maybe I’ll look into getting a better machine.
Personally, I would get a desktop for gaming. Whenever new parts come out, you can just upgrade THAT PART (usually), whereas you can’t on a laptop.
I’m anti-laptops anyway. I’ve had three, all of which had issues.
On a more positive note, you can easily build a great gaming computer for ~$1,000.

I’m using avast. Also, I have the same exact issue TsukasaUjiie. The computer locks up, it doesn’t actually shut down.
I highly doubt that anet would be happy with replacing every rare item that accidentally gets deleted by someone. There is a confirmation screen for destroying things, so this shouldn’t really have happened.
A little more information would help. What drivers are you using? What exact card is it? What options do you have enabled?

I’ve watched what happens when my client crashes, and here it is.
1. The GPU doesn’t overheat, as the highest it got to was 45C
2. The CPU doesn’t overheat, at the highest it got to was 42C
3. My client seems to use about 2GB of RAM, although I have 12GB and I’m running a 64 bit system.
4. After the game crashes, the memory usage goes from 2gb to about 900mb.
5. The graphics fail after the game crashes, meaning that nothing can be shown correctly. Skype, Firefox, etc. all crash, or have shapes everywhere.
6. I am running a mid/upper tier computer.
7. I have used the -repair launcher.
8. I’ve contacted support, and have tried:
-Changing startup programs
-Setting the CPU to stock speed
-Underclocking the GPU
-Running the game on low detail.
However, running the game on low detail solves the crashing issue, but that shouldn’t be required.
Fail as in pixelate, or does the system just lockup?
Pixelate, somewhat. Colors are wrong, other programs crash (firefox for one), etc.
Okay, I stand by my original recommendation to memtest86+ a few rounds. If you can borrow a quality PSU to test this would be the best solution (a quality one though, or could have the same issue). There are other possibilities but they are slim based on what you have described reading the previous posts. I recommend taking a look at the following as one source of information:
I had been thinking of replacing my PSU lately, this may or may not push me to the point of it. I just spent $60 on a game, having to spend $90-ish to play it is a bit much. (Although it’s better for the long-run.)
Fail as in pixelate, or does the system just lockup?
Pixelate, somewhat. Colors are wrong, other programs crash (firefox for one), etc.
Doesn’t matter who makes the ram, all ram can go bad so its best to eliminate it but as I did say I would be surprised as it’s pretty rare unless it was bad to begin with.
I would look objectively at your issue as to be honest 99% of problems here will be hardware or user related and are a minuscule amount of the user base who won’t admit it’s their issue to find and fix. That’s not to say there aren’t issues but they certainly won’t cause system crashes.
Raidmax is a total trash brand and that’s exactly what happens when the PSU can’t supply stable power on the rails, it will either:
1). BSOD + reset
2). Lockup with bzzzzzz sound
3). Black screen (no monitor input)
oh and 4). pop and take out half of your components with it.
I don’t get a BSOD
It doesn’t lock up with a bzz sound
I don’t get a black screen
The game client crashes first, then the graphics fail on anything else that is displayed.
Raidmax 700W PSU
Very likely to be the problem, another brand notorious for making cheap nasty psus.
It could also be ram but would be rare in my experience, you can run memtest to be sure.
The RAM is made by gskill so I kind of doubt that the ram is the problem. I’m somewhat leery of the PSU being the issue since multiple people have the same problem.
I’m connected wirelessly to my router so I don’t have a choice there. The performance isn’t an issue, crashing is.
