What I imagine is the people that complain incessantly about the game are the ones that have played several hundred hours and just grinded the game into the dust. There is no game on earth that can satisfy such players. Satisfied players never come to the forums to say how satisfied they are, they’re playing the game instead.
But in all fairness I haven’t played this game in a long time for a few reasons. My big beef with the game is the tiny tiny skill pool. By level 35 you have access to every skill you’ll ever use. I can’t play 45+ levels with the same skills over and over. Just seems like really REALLY bad design.
I’d like to begin a new character but the armor is so kitten ugly. It’s important for an avatar to be pleasant, interesting, good etc. looking, these characters draped in chainmail or bolts of loose fabric are just unpleasant to look at. I mean the asura thief looks like shes wearing two potato sacks the first 15 levels and the warrior looks like she made her armor from a pile of discarded chainmail. It’s just really lazy design.
never understood people who would rather not play the game, that is very very sad. like why are you here if you don’t enjoy the game?
So you just make a mountain of gear you’ll never use?
I also have tremendous difficulty staying interested in the game. There’s just a lot of little things that add up as I play. I haven’t gotten far with any class, my furthest is a level 32 necromancer, but I have tried every class and can tell pretty fast if they’ll be enjoyable.
In my experience mesmers kill brutally slow, just takes forever, and you’d think having all those clones would make it easy but it is brutally slow.
I have found elementalists to be extremely enjoyable because of the MASSIVE weapon skill selection, I run a dagger focus ele and enjoy her very much. Think I was like level 15 before I unlocked every weapon skill. Swapping back and forth through attunements is great and you can conjure even more skills with elemental weapons.
I really enjoyed warrior too because they are very powerful in PvE but their armor is so ugly it is unbearable. Just draped in chainmail for at least the first 20 levels it sucks.
I wouldn’t recommend necromancer because by level 30 you have every single skill you’ll ever use and there’s no real need to weapon swap. They’re just kind of boring.
I got to like level 22 on an engineer and wouldn’t recommend them either. Weapon swapping is a waste though the kits are interesting if not largely useless. They’re a conflicted class where there most powerful skills like the wrench big bomb and grenade field require being too close to enemies while their too weak to withstand much punishment.
I really don’t understand how anyone gets a character to 80 since by 30 you have every skill you’ll ever use. How does that not bore you?
Oh btw I’m elementalist, I love the class, I have no idea what the alleged OP skill or unfair nerfs are, I just play and enjoy it, fairly certain elementalists have more skills than any other class.
If you look hard enough you can find a thread complaining about how powerful any class is with the exception of maybe engineers and necromancers.
When I play I tend to see an unusual diversity in classes, like most mmos you usually see 1 or 2 classes a lot more than the rest, but here the diversity is pretty good.
Think a simple balance might be mobs with such high toughness the only way to kill them effectively is with conditions
So for awhile now I have been puppied over by I guess you would call it Monster Area of Aggression. Basically you take a step in the wrong direction and any monster at any time can become disinterested in fighting, become invulnerable, regain all their health, and slowly walk away from you.
This happens so frequently it’s become a very big problem. It’s not a huge deal fighting a normal monster but when I’m soloing veterans and event monsters this is so obnoxious. This happens every single time I play. I’ll fight a monster for several minutes to take a step in the wrong direction and waste all that kitten time.
Ironically this never ever happens if I become overmobbed, it is only when I’m controlling the fight, and almost always against a monster that takes some time to kill.
Did they alter this or something because I don’t remember it happening when I first started playing.
thank you it worked
Everytime I try to change the dye of my boots it reverts back to the previous color. I’m a level 17 engineer on the yaks bend server
I’d like to rely on mace and shield. And I dont want to just stand there and take damage, I dont know why anyone would insinuate thats my strategy to win fights. Have dodge, weakness, daze, stun, parry, knockdown, and block. I love the versatility the mace shield build offers. Plant a banner of defense and fight with deep attrition.
Maybe switching to warhorn, love the mobility, conditon removal, weakness and vigor.
At least as far as mace shield goes I just want to be a pain in the kitten on the field.
I’m still pretty new to this game, I just want to have survivability when I get caught in a bad situation. I feel the warrior class really suits me, I’d just like to be a bit tougher without being the standard rifle/bow and greatsword build.
I figure it’s understood that the best defense is killing everything before you take damage, but that’s not the character I want to play.
I wanted to create a tanky warrior using a mace and shield, which stat is better to focus on for tankiness
So I’m at 97% in wayfarer hills, the last point of interest and last point of interest are shown to be in cragstead, but when I go in there they are not there. How do I get them
weve been waiting like 30 minutes now when does it spawn?
Yaks bend: there’s a ton of people gathered in godslost swamp and nothings happened and no one will explain anything. whats up?
I love how many people wish the game was worse (trinity).
I would love to see second classes, theres just something about evolving, its not just the new gear and skills, but that you are fundamentally different than when you started. At the end you’re still the same class you were when you started.
And more meaningful skill progression, I mean level 30 you basically have access to all your skills, and I don’t like that.
Well on a condition necromancer you only really need scepter+dagger, I only weapon swap to destroy inanimate objects. I have no need to switch skills, just use 3 corruption skills plus deathly swarm. I only deathshroud to mob creatures but I’m so stacked in condition damage it doesnt come up a lot.
Like from 25-33 I’ve used the exact same skills the exact same way and I’m getting stronger and stronger as I stack more and more condition damage, but its the same thing no matter what encounter.
Can do it from memory: cripple, bleed, might, deathly swarm feast of corruption 1 on 1
If multiples i kite them together in time to cripple, bleed, poison, might, epidemic, deathly swarm, feast of corruption, basically 10 conditions there when I transfer my conditions, which makes feast deadly.
Didnt have to go in game to check anything, been doing this exact formula for 8 levels.
And I cant imagine doing the exact same skills in the exact same order for 47 more levels.
This isn’t one of those asinine “I quit” threads, but a genuine concern I have.
So my necromancer has reached 33 and I realize that not even halfway through leveling I have every single skill I will ever use and this has left me quite concerned.
After getting a set of gear that isn’t ugly (think every classes 1-20 gear) and finally seeing how powerful a condition necromancer can be, I realize there isn’t a tremendous amount of development in store.
I just don’t see myself playing the next 40+ levels with the same exact skills, it seems kinda dull.
When I started GW2 I was averaging 10+ hours a day losing a lot of sleep, now I haven’t played in almost a week. Just don’t see the point If there is no more meaningful character development why play? Like I get there are trait points but acquiring new and more powerful skills is so vital to core RPG mechanics I’m sitting here thinking wtf.
Is this just exclusive to necromancers or is this just the game?
I dont know what wvw behind windmill is, and I just started, my main is 33 I dont have guildies
So I tried to start pvp today but couldn’t. I want to do little 1 on 1 battles but no map/server whatever supported that. I didn’t want to go into pvp brand new and get kittened at for dying all the time while I try to learn the mechanics.
I couldn’t even figure out how to enter spectator mode or start my own map/server.
How are you suppose to do all this stuff.

guessing these still aren’t for sale?
how often do ppl get black lion keys? I’ve gotten one the entire time i’ve played
There are no quests in skyrim that take multiple days to complete and have a bug that prevents completion, I’ve played skyim extensively
thats not the bug though, the bug is that the event will not proceed, it gets stuck mid progress, and it wont end, the event npc doesnt die
if this kind of gamebreaking thing was rampant I think we’d here a lot more about it
I think if someone lost their gear they’d report it unless they attained it by illegitimate means
yeah but now I have to hover around the game and hope to get in before someone tries to start the event
brisban wilds is north of the asura starting area Metrica Province
Lot of people have said this has been an issues for months, not a new thing
Diessa Plateau had plenty of people roaming around, was more common to do events with multiple people than alone.
This isn’t marathon leveling like other mmos, it’s a bit more organic. These people bragging about their multiple level 80 alts have played thousands of hours.
If you 100% your starting area, participate in live events regularly and keep up with crafting you should level at an appropriate rate.
A little warning, do not do diessa plateau, theres an event bug that prevents you from 100%ing the area and has been around for months.
Do brisban wilds instead.
It’s not widely discussed, but you should really do level apropriate areas like brisban wilds if you’re level 18. While you do get scaled down for the area you’re in, the amount of experience you’ll get is considerably more.
its bugged on every reported server, people that allegedly completed did so months ago, it’s been bugged since launch and prevents map completion
was just at henge of denavi server its bugged there too
it’s not the bug that is the problem, it’s the consequences, just move the kittening vista, how hard can that possibly be
Think about what YOU are saying.
A brand new player spends $60 on an MMO, the first MMO they’ve ever paid for.
The game is gorgeous, the gameplay is intuitive. In their second area of exploration they spend days and countless deaths exploring and gathering every skill point, vista, POI, heartquest and then after days of exploring and fighting across the area there is a bug that was there when they started making it impossible to complete the area. They go to the forums, the bug has been there for months. A simple solution would be to move the vista until the bug is fixed but that is just too kitten simple.
I just want a game that functions I dont want to wait 2 weeks for a simple fix.
I dropped $60 hoping that some care and effort would be placed into the game. A game can be gorgeous with intuitive gameplay but if there are game breaking bugs it will alinate players.
Why not have a mindnumbingly simple fix like placing the vista at the bottom of the tower until the bug is fixed? How about an intuitive solution?
You just have no idea what you’re talking about, it’s bugged on all reported american servers, if it was so kittening easy to simply guest on another server and spend 1 minute to get 100% completion you don’t think I would have done it?
And secondly, this has been bugged for months, this isn’t a new thing. This game isn’t free, it’s just lazy and or incompetent
how often do they patch though? Like every 2 weeks?
someone on a european server said its not stuck there but you can’t guest on a different areas server……
How do you 100% Diessa Plateau. With the catapult event bugged the entire time I’m wondering how any 100% this area.
I’ve become seriously disillusioned with this game after spending days working in diessa plateau to get a giant middle finger from Anet saying I’ll probably never get to 100% in the area let alone the world.
This is the kind of message they’re sending to new players, that they’re going to waste a lot of time trying to get this award and they never will so they just wasted all that effort.
I don’t even want to play anymore, what’s going to be the next bug that they refuse to do anything about that prevents players from getting one of the huge game awards. I don’t want to try to 100% another area to get to the last 1% and find because of Anets incompetency I can never complete yet another area.
This is pathetic, I’ve never seen a free to play mmo run this poorly, I can’t believe an alleged triple A mmo could let this happen, especially since there was just a massive patch a few days ago. Get your kitten together, this is pathetic. I was going to buy this game for my boyfriend but if this is how you manage basic bug problems then I’m not going to. Why would I subject him to this bullkitten. Don’t try to 100% the world because it is virtually impossible.
could go to any other starting place, you don’t have to limit yourself to that area
I agree though the human area doesn’t seem particularly well designed, it’s hard to level organically there
so I’m sort of out leveling my crafting skills, I’m a necromancer and I work in tailoring and artificing. When I went to make clothes I found after dozens of hours I couldn’t make a single bolt of fabric.
Am I suppose to buy materials in the market and spam creations I’ll never use just to get my crafting level up or is their a more organic approach?
id like to use spears on land
I really, really tried to main my warrior but the gear got so ugly, same with my thief (puppy you quilted dublets!!!) but I found I loved the concept and execution of corruption necromancers and now I’m alting a fire elementalist because I love fire mages, dat fire axe, so far she’s pretty awesome and love the outfit
So I alt because characters get to a point theyre too ugly to play.
I do not understand what everyone is complaining about, underwater combat is so absurdly easy, and I’m very mediocre at this game and have died many times on land, but never underwater. Like seriously, will there be underwater pvp and I’ll just own everyone by fluke. It’s SO EASY, have played multiple classes and they all had strong underwater skills. My theory is anyone that mistakenly uses a harpoon gun hates underwater combat.
Anyway, I like the variation of having aqua-centric heart quests, underwater events and boss fights, mixing things up is almost always a great idea.
Maybe not the same but between 40+ levels on my warrior and necromancer I’ve gotten 2 dyes, in 12 levels on my thief I’ve gotten 6 dyes
hate to bump threads but theres an active event quest that was at the same exact spot when i returned with my friend, this is wasting players time and making them frustrated. You really want players wasting 10+ minutes to realize a quest is bugged?
Do whatever you want. If you want to fight monsters fight monsters, fight bosses go find the, explore every city you can get exp for that, harvesting gives you experience, do your personal story quest, do heart quests, do “orange circle” events, craft.
You don’t really have to do anything, the game is designed to give you plenty of selection on how you want to spend your time. You can even gain exp in pvp and wvw i believe. You don’t have to be 80 to pvp since everyone is default 80 there, it’s designed so you can pvp whenever you want to, you can even go spectator mode and see how other people are pvping.
If you want the biggest chunks of experience they come from heart quests, events, and crafting. As a level 12 you should be close to 100% completing the area you’re in (do all heart quests, find all points of interest, do all skill challenges, discover all vistas, find all way points), when you 100% an area you get (typically) a very nice reward.
To craft you want to collect materials in the world so you need those sickles, axes, and picks at the beginning town of your area that merchants sell. You get exp for harvesting from those tiny logs, ores, bushes on your map.
As an engineer you’ll probably want to do leatherwork, huntsman creations for guns, and jewelry is an all around good craft to learn. It takes a little time to get the hang of crafting but when you start making things and combining them to make bigger things and you start making supplies you’ll actually use you really get into it.
Contrary to popular belief you don’t level nearly as fast as long time players would have you believe, having done every heart quest in an area, 100% the area, doing several events, and crafting I got to about 17.
The leveling is suppose to be organic and meaningful, this game isn’t about level capping as fast as possible, it’s about enjoying the journey to level cap, which is why you can pvp whenever you want.
