Can we get a First Person Viewpoint please? Nearly all the GW 1 Vets have been asking for it since release in August Last Year. More details here in a dedicated thread:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/First-Person-Viewpoint/
Would be awesome but you would have to have a First Person Viewpoint to get the most out of it. Started my own thread on it. If you would like to see FPV in GW2, pop a post in my thread.
Really would like to see Oculus Rift be compatable, would be ruddy brilliant!
Thanks for the posts guys! You don’t know what the name of the mod is called do you? It would be nice if we could pass it along to the devs and see if they can integrate it into GW2, would save a lot of work if the author could approve it and allow them access to change it.
As for the Right Mouse button issue you have, you could try recording a macro or if you have an external device like a joypad, you could use a program like joytokey to bind it to instead, might help a little with the ol’ cps
Thanks again guys and keep contribootin!
TY for the input Guwanjee

someone posted this already at the beginning of 2011
Great idea, but its never been discussed fully here. A couple of short posts here and there but never anything of this thread size before. Maybe its because the forums here have had a bit more time to mature and have more people on it. Either way, we’ve had a lot of good feedback here compared to other threads.
Still good find.
Devs have commented that 1st person is being evaluated becuase so many skills in the game do not work from a 1st person view.
how do you deal with thief leaps? or the disorientation of whipping around a character doing that snake strike? etc
Personally i would say best way would be issue a town clothes ‘weapon’ that is a camera. when you use the ability of the camera it zooms you all the way in to first person. Allows for great screenshots and could be used in some jump puzzles put could be easily weapons swap back to combat mode if the need arose.
course i prefer the situational awareness of 3rd person even in JP, would use it strictly as i said, a camera to take screenshots.
It is that simple. It was done in GW1 and the Assassin (with its shadow step and leap skills) as well as other classes that had a leap abilites with the Eye of the North Expansion. While it wasn’t the best viewpoint for shadowstepping you can change it when you liked.
This is how it worked. When you zoomed in with the mousewheel, like you do in GW2, you could zoom in so far you could zoom past the 3rd person into 1st.
Now I’m not saying the game should be played entirely in FP, GW1 & 2 was originally designed in 3rd Person. but there are some circumstances that are easier. Especially for the majority of the jumping puzzles, but they can be tricky without a FP viewpoint. Which is kinda why it would be nice to have it as a feature than a forced option.
Town clothes weapon would be a good way round it, but not so good for external areas… heck even making the player completely invisible from their own viewpoint would be better, as you can zoom in quite close (but only invisible at that range), but anything to get the back end of the player out the way your view in some cases.
Still really good points, town weapon may be the way forward for part of it.
Again, keep the comments coming, if you agree/disagree all comments welcome!
Really like this idea OP, polymock in GW1 was great fun!
Nice find Krosslite! Not quite what I was on about (looks more like Oblivion-Style that link, that would be cool) but it would be ACE for long range targeting speaking of which!
Keep up the posts, likes, dislikes constructive features, etc folks!
Thanks for the feedback and votes so far folks, please spread the response to likeminded people, if we dont all ask, we dont all get.
+1ing this, but be aware that people have been asking for this since beta.
Don’t worry mate, fully aware of this, just don’t think its all been compiled in the one post before, so far this is the one with the most replies to it as far as I’ve seen.
It’s , such a minor tweak to implement but will create a big effect on how people explore and play and share their experiences with the game.
Keep spreading the word all to get people to add feedback
Thanks again guys, keep it coming!
Hi all,
I’ve been wondering about this for some time. The first Guild Wars had a first person viewpoint, why not implement it in Guild Wars 2?
It would be great for walking around Tyria without having your character in the way all the time, GW2 is beautiful, why not show it off to its full capacity developers! Would also be excellent if you wanted to record your own Guild Videos with OBS, FRAPS or Xsplit. There was some crackers out there with Guild Wars 1
It would also solve issues with certain camera angles and make jumping puzzles that little bit easier for tricky pixel-perfect jumps.
It would also be handy for picking out NPC’s in the throng of Player Characters in towns and outposts when there’s an event on.
It wouldn’t have to be a forced option too, just a tickbox if people wanted to use it or not.
I’ve tried asking the GW2 twitter account but they are not responding
Please Leave feedback below, I know a lot of people who would like to see this happen but we won’t get this implemented unless there’s a lot of visible support for it.
Thanks in advance all, comments and suggestions welcome!
Still bugged as of 01:52 24-09-2012 GMT
A lot of camera angle problems could be resolved by adding this. Secondly GW2 is beautiful, why not show it off by removing the back of a character. Thoughts below please
The cost should be lowered for higher level characters. Half a silver to spawn at a waypoint in Lornar’s Pass? No wonder I’m permanently skint.
I concur. having a look at a developers screenshot, they had this option. It would be a worthwhile decision
Thank you Arenanet for a beautiful C.E. of the game which I would like to play and have tried yet cannot as their are no default CONTROLLER settings for me to choose for my gameplay in the game’s settings.
The game to me is broken without having these settings as I cannot move very well hunched worklike over a desk, inputting data with a keyboard, or that is how I feel with my face nearly becoming one with the computer screen trying to get some sense of comfortability using a slab of plastic EIGHT times the area of one controller as a command device for this game. You can imagine the frustration escalating trying to move said slab onto my lap where I usually sit to play my many games to try to play the game, and that is not including finding space for the awful use of the mouse… and my mouse is a trackball so I pity gamers whom are coping with a usual mouse.
Something tells me third-party crapware in regards to peripheral branded products is part of the problem that is holding you back here. This issue is not a console over pc issue. It is about feeling comfortable in-game in order to want to actually come in -game and play without feeling trammelled by a device that personally, I feel belongs in the nineties. some, many folk are fine using a mouse to play this game with, I am not one of those people and when I say publically in-game that I am having trouble, I get many folk agreeing that thegame NEEDS a default controller setting for those of us whom need these settings.
That’s all, I will add that I do not expect you to find all of the lettered commands onto a pad, movement is the major issue here, but I DO expect you to provide me and many more folk whom need them, these settings which without them, is stopping us from enjoying the beauty of the game’s world.
mutatis MUTANDIS…
Just install joytokey. Its a free program that will allow you to do that – even allows you to control mouse. Problem solved.
Server: Aurora Glade
Map: Metrica Province
Skill point NPC missing: Black Ice 4444 – from Inquest Outer Complex
They need to add this ASAP espercially with come of the close quarters combat in buildings, you cant see whats attacking you. This needs to make a comeback really soon.
