Avoid being hit if you are not planning to fight.
Problem solved.

Yep! The act of being chased by an NPC doesn’t put you in combat – being hit does (or if you have a pet – your pet being hit)

I don’t see the problem.

Just not as slick or expensive.

Yeah, this would be a very good option for him. Only thing that worries me is the heat – the temperatures listed in the review on the keyboard are really high.

Laptop For GW2 and College

Hi guys I am going to college and was looking for a gaming laptop that would be best for this game as well as portability. I would build my own gaming PC, but I have to have something portable. With gaming laptops, as far as I understand, the battery life is usually pretty bad.

Here was the laptops I was looking at. Price isn’t an issue, but I want a laptop under $1300 if possible.

Another up for consideration is a MacBook Air. The 13 inch model with a i7 processor with 8GB of RAM is around $1249. It also comes with a 128GB SSD. The only downside is that it has Intel HD 5000 Graphics.

With gaming laptops is there a way to make the battery last? Is there any docks I can buy so I can game on the go more without having to charge up? Most of them come with a 6C battery.

Thanks everyone for the help!

Hey there!

The only real gaming laptop that has really good battery life is the new Razer Blade that was just released not too long ago. Here’s a pretty in-depth review: http://www.engadget.com/2013/07/02/14-inch-razer-blade-gaming-laptop-review/

Only prob is that it’s going to be more expensive than your budget – BUT if you want really good battery life and all around solid build quality and gaming performance then that’s a very solid choice.

As for the Macbook Air 2013 – I have one. It’s fantastic BUT it really isn’t built for gaming. It can perform well on mid-ranged games but the truth is, the thing gets really hot. The upper left corner on the laptop, when under full gaming load can actually come close to burning you it gets that hot. Taking that into consideration AND the fact that GW2 pushes both the CPU and GPU very hard, I just wouldn’t consider it for anything on the serious gaming side.

If you aren’t so paranoid about battery life: Asus, MSI and Alienware (and a few others) put out excellent gaming laptops that perform very well – but, have battery lives that are very short (2-3 hours max)

Does Anet play the game

Has anyone ever seen some one from anet actually play the game. Most of the time they talk about what is in the best interest of us or what they think would be more fun. But it seems to be going in the wrong direction cause everyone keeps complaining. I all most wonder if they even play there own game. I mean i wonder if they are satisfied with how it turned out.

Does everyone think that Anet or NCsoft or who ever makes the decisions is creating better content that the gamer actually wants or just easy filler to appease people cause they promised they would give us new stuff?

I have seen a few that play pretty regularly – they often join us in WvW.

I’ve even duoed with one Anet employee in open world to lvl up his Engineer. Was quite fun. Great convo.

So yes, they most definitely play their game.

Any E3 News?

Win7 to Win8 install without download?

I just got a new computer with Windows 8. I currently play GW2 on a computer with Windows 7. I have the original DVD media.

I’ve searched the forums and read several posts about people installing GW2 on a new computer without doing the full download. The method, as I understand it, is something like:

1. Start the installation from the original DVD;
2. Cancel out once the download starts;
3. Copy over key files (e.g., the large *.dat) directly to the new computer.
4. Start up GW2 and let it run its file authentication.

Assuming I understand this correctly (which I may not), will this same process work if I am copying large files between the two different Windows operating systems?

This would save me a lot of time, given my somewhat slow internet connection. Any info or advice is appreciated.

If I understand you correctly, you’re simply trying to copy over the GW2 game from a computer with Windows 7 to a different computer with Windows 8?

If that’s the case then you simply just copy over the GW2 executable and GW2 data file over to the new system in whatever folder you want. (i.e. c:\games\gw2) You’ll have to redo a few settings but that’s essentially it.

You don’t need to ‘reinstall’ – it’s a self-contained game that just requires you to copy those files and that’s it.

Gem Store purchases increase Magic Find

I am extremely unlucky in this game in terms of drop. Everything I put in the Mystic Toilet returns nothing but crap. Chests from world bosses, dungeons and fractals contain blues, greens and maybe a yellow.

Interestingly enough some people around me bought the Molten Alliance Mining Pick and those people, after said purchase, actually got precursors. Do I dare say that ‘significant’ purchases in the Gem Store have a hidden effect on Magic Find?

Yes, I dare. Discuss!

Gotta love inductive reasoning.

Sorry, but, no, buying the mining pick had no effect on yours (or anyone else’s) magic find.

Jade Quarry, Blackgate and Sanctum of Rall are the top tier in WvW and are always very very active. Just find yourself a solid guild that does what you want a lot.

Yeah 1920×1080, tbh i don’t really care about having 60FPS. Really anything in the 40s will do. As long the game is not drop below 30FPS it’s grand for me.

That system will do fine in most cases. However, if you go into WvW and get into large battles, your frame rate will most definitely drop below 30fps at times regardless of resolution and detail settings. That’s just an unfortunate fact of the game right now.

Actually the 560m is still slightly better than the 650m.

The first number isnt the most important. Its the seond number.

1st number = series/generation
2nd number = model (higher = better)
3rd number = It almost always 0, but there is a 675m bassicaly between a 670m and 680m.

Now if it were a 360m or 260m, then u could say the 650m is better, by a big margin. But not a 560m. The 560m is still slightly better than a 650m.

Beside for the sake of argument in this day in age i asume 1920×1080 atleast, and aiming for 60FPS in PvE.

If you check here: www.notebookcheck.net – the 650m is slightly better in benchmarks than the 560m.

a 650m wont do.

Even for a desktop a 650ti is the minimum for medium settings. A 650m is slower than a 650ti so i wouldnt get that if i were u.

The 3610Qm is ok, but again i wouldnt go any lower than a 3630QM.

All laptop CPU’s and even stock Desktop CPU’s will have trouble in WvW, sub 20 FPS. So u want the best u can get from a 3630QM or above.

I run an Nvidia 560m on a gaming laptop and do just fine. In very large fights in WvW I’ll go to 20fps or even a bit lower and in the vast majority of PvE I’ll get 60fps easily. I do drop down my resolution a bit (1600×900) and have almost everything on high with reflections off.

So, the chipset he listed should be fine since it’s quite a bit faster than my own and I do very well. He’ll just need to play around with the settings to find out what runs best for him.

Thank you so much!
I’m blown away by the differences- it has certainly steered my view & I should be purchasing (can’t decide for asus or sager) quite soon. One more question though- what all would it take to run gw2 on the highest (ultra) graphics based on that website? I’m not quite sure what to look for, yet I’ve already halfway customized it & I don’t want to pick something wrong or something I’ll never use thinking it’d do me good. (the pc would strictly be for gaming, music, web browsing) I use my old desktop for office work. If it’s not to much trouble maybe guide me abit more on what to look for? But to narrow some- I’m looking for a 17 inch, not to picky about the style just more if it works well. Best GPU/CPU for under 1900$ with maybe some cooling unit if in your opinion is best; some of the building options I’m looking at I have no clue what makes a difference, even after looking at the ‘More info’ tab. I don’t mean to come off as a complete moron haha & I’m sorry if this inconveniences you.

It isn’t so much about ultra settings – it’s about what frame rate you want at those ultra settings.

A consistent 30fps with ultra settings in all/most scenarios? Not a problem.
A consistent 60fps with ultra settings In all/most scenarios? Need a desktop.

Hello everyone, I’m pretty much clueless when it comes to computers but my asus laptop which I had bought several years ago isn’t cutting it when I play gw2- to me playing on low graphics is unacceptable so I’ve been looking at the Alienware laptops (my friend loves hers & it is pretty beast from what I’ve seen while playing gw2) I’ve had my eye on the M17x R4 – 7263BK for about 1600$ which is also my desired budget but I can go 1800$

I’ve heard that CPU is what really matters when it comes to GW2 not GPU (I think thats correct) which helps with FPS I think, one question of mine is how much of a difference does 6GB range from 8GB? that’s the memory I assume? The only game I play is gw2 so I’d think it wouldn’t make much a difference. I also see a difference in the Hard drives- which is internal memory if I’m correct which I don’t really need a TB that much.

I don’t mean to be such a dunce or an airhead- but I can never find the question I’m looking for.

My real question is- I do not know the difference in any of these laptops aside from some added options & price ranges; are the higher priced ones more of a luxury with all those added options?

Here is the link to the website: http://www.dell.com/us/p/alienware-M17x-r4/pd.aspx

The first question I’d ask you is this: Do you need the portability of a laptop? Reason I ask is because any laptop you get is going to be significantly inferior to a desktop system with relatively the same hardware. In other words, you’ll get far more bang for your back from a desktop system than a laptop.

Assuming you need the laptop for portability then, yeah, what you linked looks good. If you can afford 8G of memory then do that. More memory is always good and will allow you more flexibility in the future.

This game does tax your CPU pretty hard and that’s the driving force behind higher frame rates in intense battles. The CPU and GPU in the system you linked is fine. It’ll run the game in mostly high settings quite well.

It is absolutely true. In point of fact Nvidia and AMD both state specifically that mobile version of its GPU are NOT officially supported by driver releases. It is why AMD specifically has a “mobile compatability” test software to see if a mobile GPU can actually run on standard release drivers.

If you knew your GPU hardware you would know that mobile variants are often custom made for a particular vendor that very often have custom “tweaks” that preclude them from using AMD/Nvidia release drivers. This is not always the case, and you can get mobile GPU’s that are indeed compatible with release driver but they are not all guaranteed to be that way.

Its precisely why sites like laptopvideo2go exist, for GPU’s that are not officially supported by vendors but are indeed capable of using release drivers.

Translation; You have never had a problem, and are unaware that issues like I spoke of even exist hence your statement that I am wrong, which is incorrect.

In point of fact a number of system build vendors were sued because they knowingly sold laptops with defective mobile Nvidia GPU’s around 2 years ago. HP had a massive recall of a large number of laptops due to this suit. You may not be aware of it, but as a person who works in the industry I am fully aware of the issue.

And as a final note; AMD no longer has “unified” drivers, the company stated last year that it would no longer make drivers “unified”. It is why they now have seperate “legacy” drivers and current “release” drivers.

I can see what you’re referring to here and that’s the NON-gaming laptops that are out there. Regular laptop computers with Nvidia/ATI chips are sometimes custom made for these or used to be. This is true. But what I was responding to was GAMING laptops – specifically the ones that are made by Asus, MSI, Alienware and Sager. As for Nvidia (for one) specifically NOT supporting them, that’s just plain wrong. Just jump over to Nvidia and have very much up-to-date drivers specifically for notebook computers (probably for these gaming laptops that I’m referring to) – I think your information on this is dated.

Anyways, my point of responding was to point out that gaming laptops do very well with games from the manufacturers that I’ve listed. There’s a ton of myths out there that they overheat and are problematic and for the most part that’s just not true. They are designed to run well under stress and some of them have very efficient cooling systems to prevent them from getting anywhere near overheating when playing current titles.

As for the OP’s system – it looks like a general multi-purpose laptop. With these I’d keep a close eye on CPU and GPU temps. If either one gets close to 100c in temp then you’re in trouble. For a laptop if you hover around 60-80c for GPU and the same for CPU under load then you should be alright.

In general, “gaming laptops” are a misnomer. What I mean by that is, things like the graphics card wont be supported properly with driver updates, it may not have required technology for a specific game title or it may just not be compatible at all.

This is simply flat not true. Both ATI and Nvidia have and have had for a long time ‘unified’ drivers which update at the same rate as desktop GPUs. In other words, every time there’s an update for the desktop driver version of the GPU, there’s one for the mobile version. As for compatibility between the major GPU makers and mobile vs desktop variations of the chips – I have yet to hear of any major issues at all that have happened to mobiles and not desktop variant GPUs.

Translation: In the 4 years that I’ve been using mobile Nvidia GPUs, I haven’t come across a single problem that’s specific to the mobile version of my Nvidia GPU.

The way to look at it is this; Take a look at the inside of a high end desktop PC. Do you really think laptop can cram all that inside such a small chassis? Of course not, so stuff gets “cut off” to make space and reduce the size.

A desktop will be superior in gaming to a laptop even if both have identical specs, simply because the desktop has no need to compromise the tech for heat/size isssues that plague laptops.

A desktop, assuming similar components, will almost always be superior in performance. There’s no arguing that. However, if you need the mobility that a laptop offers then there ARE gaming laptops that do a very good job of playing games because they’re specifically designed to do so. Asus, MSI, Alienware and Sager all make very good laptops that work very well with the latest games.

Constant Battery Drain While Playing

Jandus.2834

Hey guys, I play on a laptop (Macbook Pro Early 2011 via bootcamp), and when I am playing gw2, I constantly have a battery drain. It does the same when I am also playing via the Mac Client. The drain seems to be a lot slower when I put the batter into power saver mode but it still drains but at a slower rate. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

……

Your question is very confusing. Are you talking about the fact that your battery drains (assuming you don’t have the laptop plugged into a wall socket) when playing the game? If so, that’s kinda normal to the operation of any electronic device. It has to draw power from somewhere.

As to the amount it’s pulling – yeah, GW2 is very intense on the hardware of any system so it’s going to draw power more rapidly then, say, typing a document in a word processor.

The OP said he wanted high setings with no low FPS.

So what i sugested is accurate.

Then I guess the question is: What is ‘low fps’ to him? I agree that 60fps is what I hit as well but many others find that 30 fps is perfectly fine. It’s purely subjective.

As a gamer, myself and many others dont like to accept anythigg other than ~60fps as a Minimum FPS. Now thankfully GW2 doesnt requir such precise and tight timing for combat so u can lower that Figure, but even still to keep the lowest possible FPS from droping below 50FPS in PvE still requirs, at high setitngs, a beafy GPU.

There’s a big difference between ‘high’ and essentially ‘ultra’ settings in this game. You also have to consider the resolution as well which is a big factor. Also, I’d be willing to bet that the OP isn’t as precise as you’re guessing as to what is ‘high’ as opposed to really good looking graphics. But if it’s important I’m sure he’ll specify that.

And for the CPU no laptop can keep FPS above 30 in WvW. 30 being the absolute minimum FPS u want in any game. Again as a gamer.

For the sake of being accurate, if you customize a high-end Alienware laptop and spend a few thousand dollars you can most definitely achieve results as to what you just said.

Now if u can put up with lower than those figures in the respective areas of the game. Then the OP can by all means say so and i will adjust my recommendations accordinngly.

Its always better to ‘over recommened’ and have the user happily surprised at the performance, than to ‘under recommend’ and have the user dissapointed with performance.

Except for the fact that ‘over-recommending’ can lead to a $500-$1000 increase in price. Just a minor footnote there.

I hope u have deep pockets. As above have pointed out , u wont get a laptop that can play GW2 on high without FPS droping unless u spend insane amounts.

Graphics wise u would need a 670m at minimum. A 680m or 7970m recommended, maybe even a SLi setup.

CPU wise at minimum u want a 3630QM. Recommened a 3740QM or 3820QM.

Any laptop with those in it will already have enough RAM, HDD space, a good screen, etc, and will cost over $2000, likely $2500+ if u get the higher CPU’s.

But unfortunatly thats what u would need. Even then WvW will be sub 25 FPS since the CPU’s cant be OverClocked.

Ya know, this is getting a little absurd. You and a few others keep repeating this ‘mantra’ to almost anyone that asks for spec advice for a system that can run GW2 and it’s almost entirely false.

I run a 2-3 year old gaming laptop (Asus G74SX) with a 560m Nvidia graphics chip and a 2nd generation I7 and the game runs very well. I use a mix of high and medium settings in a windowed 1920×1080 and I get 40-50fps typically in Lion’s Arch and anywhere from 50-100fps (depending on where I am, how many people are around and what is happening) in PvE in open world and dungeon runs.

Now, that being said, in WvWvW it’s a bit different. If I run with 20-30 people and 30-40 people roll up on us and a battle ensues, you’re right, my frame rate goes into the toilet (sub-20fps) and that’s the case with most people out there even with high end systems. I don’t disagree that the game needs more optimization for higher frame rates on high end systems.

But to sit here and say that you need to spend 2-2.5k on a system to get good settings is just flat false. The game can look very very good on mid-high settings spending around $1500 on a gaming laptop (like I linked above).

Well there isn’t a laptop who will run the game on high settings without lag.
Laptops are far inferior than a desktop of the same price.
But if you really want to have a laptop for gaming, go for a 15 inch. 17inch laptops are just to heavy. And think about your budget too, you will not find any laptop less than 1300€ who can run the game on medium without lag.
So find a nice 15" widescreen, they are far more powerful than a 17" with the same specs (since the resolution is smaller it can work better). But that is my opinion knowing i own an acer aspire 5740G who is almost 3 years old, and manage to run the game pretty well.

It’s been said many times over that a desktop model is far more powerful than a laptop counterpart but if you need the mobility there are quite a few companies out there that produce very good laptops for gaming. MSI, Alienware, Asus, etc.

Personally I’d recommend this one:

http://www.amazon.com/G55VW-ES71-15-6-Inch-Gaming-Notebook-Black/dp/B007Z9WWDW

It’ll run the game very well and has a very efficient air design so that it keeps its components very cool compared to other gaming laptops.

I use the older model of this one (G74SX) and can run the game very well with most settings on high.

Open World Grouping

I have two questions regarding this topic. Would be great to get an Anet rep to answer definitively.

1. Guild Influence Bonus – The GW2 Wiki says you get a influence bonus doing events if 2 or more people are ‘grouped’ – now, does this mean you are literally in a group or just 2 or more people from the same guild simply doing the same event at the same time? Has anyone tested this and knows a definite answer?

2. Drops changes due to Grouping – I’ve heard sporadic people mention that if you invite people into a group and do events and kill open world mobs that the drops you get will get better and/or more of them? When I ask for proof of this claim I get a lot of ‘personal experience’ responses which mean nothing if there isn’t a very very large sample size in order to pull from. Is there an Anet response on this to confirm or deny this point?

Thanks!

ANet is currently rewriting culling as they only noticed a short 2-3 months after the beta that it´s broken.

So they are basically rewriting major portions of the game and if they ever get done with it then maybe they will try writing a client that properly utilizes the actual hardware.

The game is currently unplayable in WvW zergs and dragon events unless you have a 4.4+ghz cpu. Having that clock speed is attainable only via overclocking.

This is unacceptable for any title.

This is just flat untrue. There are many many people that play the game in both scenarios with decent to fluid frame rates and don’t have an insanely overclocked CPU like you stated – I run with quite a few in my guild and my own laptop doesn’t do too bad in the latter situation at all and it takes a ton of people on my screen to make my system crawl in WvW.

I’ve taken the time to watch the game as it runs in Windows 7 using a CPU and GPU monitoring gadget.

It’s very true the game is heavily CPU bound but I believe there’s some misconceptions here.

Just as a note, my GPU is a Geforce GTX 560M.

First, it’s not about the Ghz of your CPU necessarily. I run a laptop with a 2nd gen Intel I7 that clocks at 2.0Ghz which can turbo up to 2.9. Lion’s Arch runs well anywhere from 30-50 fps. Anywhere else in PvE I’m getting between 60-100fps (I runs FRAPS to monitor frame rate) However, going into very heavy WvW combat (50+ people on the screen with tons of animations) I’ll go down to 20s or even the high teens in frame rate.

The game utilizes all cores quite well – the gadget monitor I use shows all the cores being used rather equally most times. I don’t see one core or thread maxing out without the others essentially doing the same.

The only curious thing that the GPU does is during VERY heavy WvW fighting the utilization drops VERY low – down as low as 15% while my CPU can peg very high (80% or higher)

Now, keep in mind, I’m not capping all my graphic stats. I think it’s plain silly to so since you can get very high graphics without turning everything on/maxed. I’d rather have very fluid frame rates than unnecessary ‘bells and whistles’ that’ll cut your frame rate in half or even lower.

My stats:

Animation: High
Anti-Aliasing: None
Environment: High
LOD Distance: Low
Reflections: None
Textures: High
Render Sampling: Native
Shadows: None
Shaders: Medium
Post-Processing: Low

Best Texture Filtering: Checked
Depth Blur: Checked
High-Res Character Textures: Checked

Shadows and Reflections will KILL your frame rate as will Render Sampling turned up – All 3 of these are unnecessary to me and I just turn them off.

Building a new computer specifically to play guild wars 2 better. The one I have at home is great, and runs it on max settings with out a problem at all. However it cost me 5k to build.

The one at work is a q6600, 4gigs, gtx285. its in dire need of an upgrade.

Currently going for an i5 3570, 16 gigs of ram, 128 gig sata III ssd , and an nvidia 660ti 3gb.

What Im trying to do is drop the cost from around 1200 to around 1k.

What I would like to know is where I can make a cut back without suffering, or creating a bottle neck in my performance.

Ideas?

Drop the RAM to 8GB. Unless you’re doing a ton of video editing or having tons of programs open at once in your daily use, you simply don’t need more RAM.

Maybe a different brand of SSD with similiar performance that’s cheaper?

Personally I like SSD drives – they are very fast but you might wanna consider a 7200 RPM drive. It’ll be slower in load times but for actual game performance, it won’t make much or any difference.

Unspec: I know, it was more of a commentary on how poorly this games optimized/programmed for modern hardware.

tera would FLY on that, Aion would FLY on that, WoW would fly on that, Rift would FLY ON THAT. swtor woud FLY ON THAT……..gw2 will crawl on it….

they could make a laptop that could take the heat but battery life would suck, and it would really be more of a DTR then a laptop…..

I have a buddy whos lappy is liquid cooled, its a few years old now but, pretty cool really, dual gfx, very fast cpu, lots of ram……battery life on stock battery 15min….LOL

Completely disagree. I have a comparable gaming laptop (Asus) and GW2 runs very very well. With most things on high in the settings I run at 60+ fps in most areas of the game. LA is 30-40 and WvW varies based upon how many people and what is going on.

There are some laptop brands out there that have very good cooling and play games very well – that’s why they are gaming laptops.

Had this happen as well – using Windows 7 64 bit. Never had it happen in beta or any release up until now.

Went into task manager and ‘end task’ on both executables and then restarted and all was fine.

So far it’s happened only once.

Can someone cheer me up...

You need to find activities within that game that you enjoy doing. Have you tried joining a group/guild with friends or others?

As for which character to choose – try and find things that you have in common or you aspire to be (want to become, hero for example). Role playing games are a fantasy and people create their characters based on what they would want to be. Use that and orient your gameplay around this. It might help you be more motivated, otherwise, sadly this might not be the game for you.

Give it a go

I have to 2nd what this guy says. I had a hard time playing for more than an hour or so but I did find a great guild and now I totally love just helping others and doing things with either a person or two or a group of people.

Just yesterday we did a full zone clear – took a few hours but it was great – people helping people.

Maybe that might be it?

My problem with the mesmers is that they seem to have no cooldown on creating new clones, as a ranger I excel in 1 on 1, but even when I take a clone down in seconds a new one is ready and I’m back to a full 4 “people”, you either get lucky enough to hit the original before your health gets too low or your done for, and running isn’t much of an option in WvW.

Try actually playing the class and the various weapon types they have access to and you’ll find that this is very far from the truth.

A few bugs I've noticed.

My apologies if these have been stated before, but it’s better to post and be repetitive then never have them reported at all, right?

Anyways, just 3 things I’ve noticed:

1. Guardian – Scepter – Orb of Wrath (Number 1 ability) – When moving and attacking a target a LARGE percentage of the casts will miss visually.

2. Warrior – Sword main hand – Savage Leap (Number 2 ability) – When jumping you seem to arc up and then come down. This makes it really awkward to attack mobs/players from an elevated position since you fall down and often behind them. A much better approach to the charge mechanic is from the Slot Skill ability “Bull’s Charge” which hugs the ground as you rush towards the opponent. When using Bull’s Charge, going from an elevated position down to a lower one is not an issue since you follow the ground elevation. Perhaps replace Savage Leap’s jump ‘style’ to that of Bull’s Charge?

3. This bug drives me insane. There doesn’t seem to be a pattern but often times, when I’m trying to complete the daily event achievements (5 of them) – some events will register towards the 5 and others simply will not. As I mentioned, there doesn’t seem to be a pattern – whether you’ve done part of the event before or not, events in a particular zone, Heart type DEs or others – I don’t see a pattern. Often times I have to do as many as 10 or more events just to register 5 for the daily PvE event achievement.

That’s all I can think of for now. Thanks again for making a fantastic game.

Level Scaling should be optional...

Personally, I wish they would of gone FURTHER with it and nerfed everyones armor and weapons as well. (simply scaling down ones HP is not enough)

All of your stats are scaled down when you go through specific areas of a zone. Open up your character panel and look at your stats when you’re in a lower level area. All of the stats in green are your current stats in that area.

If you’re in all exotics and go to a lvl 35 area, your damage and abilities act as though you’re in exotics at lvl 35 roughly.

Yet another person looking for a guild. ;)

Hey there!

What I’m looking for:

- Moderate to Large guild (25+ active players)
- PvE focus (I do do WvW and dungeons but mainly I love open world exploring/events)
- Mature community – I’m older and just love to hang back and have a great time – not into teenager drama and such.
- Friendly! People willing to jump in and help and be there for each other and not a bunch of crickets in guild chat.
- Regular players I can do things with and who are looking to learn and get better in the process.

What am I?

- Mature and respectful individual
- Been playing MMOs since DAoC (2001). 7 years in WoW and a smattering of others.
- Currently have 3 lvl 80 toons that I’m gearing out and various lvl ranges of others that I’m lvling up as well.
- Currently focused on PvE world exploration. Right now I’m big into farming for cash – doing DEs and running around killing mobs and such.
- Pacific time zone

I absolutely love this game but I find it kinda boring always doing things solo so I thought I’d post and see what’s out there.

I’m currently in a guild but they don’t do anything and there’s very few of them on so I’m looking for something much more active. Having 1 or 2 people to run with every day doing PvE stuff would be great. Also a smattering of WvW and dungeon runs would be great as well!

Thanks for reading.

Notice we haven’t heard a peep out of Mike O’Brien since all of the boasting interviews about how GW2 will be #1 and beat World of Warcraft?

This is just flat out wrong. Nobody at Anet ever said anything about being #1 and beating WoW.

What do you mean ‘needs to come back’?

Its not like you bought it knowing it has a trinity system, and then they changed it. This game never had a trinity system as far as I know.

Do you know what is the cost of redesigning the classes to become a trinity system (assuming you are right that trinity is better)? Might as well make a new game.

That being said, I still don’t understand why would you force yourself on GW2 if you liked the trinity system and you know that this game doesn’t have it.

I didn’t force myself onto anything. I knew this game wouldn’t have the trinity and I was naive enough to think Arenanet would be capable of making it work. Clearly my hope was misplaced.

Clearly it was.

So what are you still doing here?

As a dissatisfied customer it is my right to voice my dissatisfaction and advise the creator of said sub-par product how to improve and maybe win back my support.

Sure it is. But to think for a second that Anet is going to totally revamp the fundamental game mechanics that the game is built upon is just totally naive. If you truly believe the game is broken because of the lack of a trinity then don’t play. <shrug>

“No criticism. No questioning glorious leader Arenanet. Find the game perfect or leave.”

Sounds like the SWTOR forums. We all saw how well that game did with fanboys touting this kind of attitude.

No, that’s not my position at all. You’re describing a fundamental gameplay mechanic that underlies the entire underpinnings of the game that you’re dissatisfied with. If you’re that dissatisfied with it then what are your choices? Hope that they scrap the entire game and start from scratch with a trinity system? I mean, let’s be real here.

I’m getting really tired of these posts.

First off, there’s nothing to ‘go back to’ – the game was fundamentally built upon the game mechanic that’s there. You realize there’s absolutely no chance that Anet would totally gut the game and put in rigid class roles, right? It’s just not going to happen – ever.

As for your statement that everyone knows the PvE in this game is horrible is so horribly wrong that I’m not sure where to start. I, and many others, love the core game mechanics of this game and very much enjoy them. Of course there are things that probably need to be tweaked, fixed or maybe even overhauled to some extend but I have nothing but praise for the way the game plays.

Honestly, if you’re THAT unhappy with the way the core gameplay works then just don’t play. If you desperately want the trinity system then there’s a plethera of games out there that can satisfy you.

I for one, applaud Anet for designing something very different and being successful with it.

So, can we stop with these posts now? Plz?

how are those concurrent users numbers?

I noticed that if someone asks for help and linking way points at the same time, droves of people show up to help out. If there’s a big meta even going on, people will show up after the fight, but will show up.

I’ve noticed this a lot as well. Wish more people would get in this habit. Makes things a lot more social and fun IMO.

Watch your conditions. 9 times out of 10, when I’m stuck in combat, it’s cuz I have a long duration snare still on me or a low damage poison or some other condition that isn’t always obvious.

Trading Post Bug

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Jandus.2834

Jandus.2834

Been experiencing a TP bug that’s been in the game since release.

I go to the TP and sell items by fulfilling buy orders. After 7-8 or so sells, it errors out saying:

“Error attempting to sell”

If I wait about 30 seconds I can see about 7-8 items again and get the error again.

I can replicate this 100% of the time on any of my characters in any zone using the actual TP NPC or just out in the world.

Is this a known issue?
