I’ve been doing a lot of tourneys lately and the only real difference between the “top” teams and the rest of us is the top teams use and abuse cheesy FOTM classes and builds.

I believe the bottom line is; without a spammable gap closer (Dagger 2 on thief), invisibility, or ride the lightning, you can’t disengage from a fight.

Thief/mesmer/ele – can do.

You could make the argument that engineers get invis, but they generally move so slow it isn’t going to allow them to break enough distance unless they juke effectively while invis.

Oh and norns… norns can all disengage…. should have rolled a norn necro.

Simply put a necromancer is the “Yamato without those big guns”. Necromancer is not quick/tricky enough to engage an enemy. Necromancer’s firepower is very weak in the engagement. Necromancer is not quick/tricky enough to disengage a fight. All the necro is good for is drawing fire away from his/her allies.

I often sacrifice myself to buy my allies time. For example let’s say my group of 15 got caught by a group of 40 foes. It is obvious that we have to retreat. Since I know I can’t run anyways, I would actually charge head first into the enemy, and then run in another direction. That will draw maybe 20 enemies to chase me. I would survive and tank for about 10 seconds before dying. That buys my allies 10 extra seconds to get away.

So yes Necromancers does fight like the Yamato, even how they dies.

Ok, lets take your 15v40 example. What a good co-ordinated guild would do is order a mesmer to open a portal behind the zerg then we wipe them from behind. If it’s 15v60 the guild leader might order the mesmer to open a port in a safe place. Good guilds don’t scatter and run like headless chickens, they use mesmer portals and move everyone at once. If we are going to die, we die together. Hardly anyone uses +25% run speed because we all want to run at the same speed and stay tight, it also frees up a utility slot for something better for the group. Good guilds use group swiftness to move as a group.

Its just something i noticed while AoE farming in heal gear. Thought it was pretty funny.

I want to run a 5 man necro group all heal specced and see how many we can spawn at once!

If you run full healing gear and group heal abilities you can manage to keep your jagged horrors alive for ages (you heal more than they bleed) and its not uncommon to have 3 of them by your side as long as you keep fighting and healing; spawning new ones before the original one dies.

Wow, entertaining thread!

Necro does not have straight forward I-WIN or panic buttons. So a lot of people struggle with it and say its a broken or bad class.

I have great survivabilty running a wells build. See that trait that gives 3 sec protection on wells? Use it! 3 seconds isn’t enough you say? It is when you use runes and traits that increase its duration to 4+ seconds and the 25% proc for another 4 secs (turns into 6+ secs). I use 4 wells, the utility ones and the healing one. That’s over 20 seconds of protection right there. Don’t spam all your wells at once unless you really in trouble.

Lay down well of blood, gives you a nice big heal plus 10 seconds of aoe heals for your crew, use staff 4 and throw conditions back to enemies and grants area retaliation, switch to axe/focus, more retaliation. DS trait for another 3 secs of retal and also trait to remove a condition, DS4 to heal your buddies and aoe dmg. Those pesky mdps have almost killed themselves from retal alone, focus 5 to strip 3 boons they using to save themselves, focus 4 for 12% extra damage and some regen, then axe 2 to burst them down. By now your wells are coming off CD so here we go again.

And that’s just 1 way to play a necro. Its a deep and versatile class that looks bad on paper to theorycrafters. I agree with those who say that buffing necro could make them OP.

To the people who are arguing on this thread that we are all apparently bad and don’t know how to play necro -cough Jknifer and Somoe cough-, please teach us how to play. Tell us all the specifics of what you do, what gear you run, etc in another thread. Please, do tell. I want to learn to play this class from the pro’s who can call out everyone on this thread to be bad. Please teach me how every spell is supposed to be used and how we are all seeing it wrong.

Don’t have anything to contribute because you don’t feel like it? You sure you don’t wanna tell us? Get out then. You are bringing needless rage and flame into a thread that wants to get attention so that the Necro’s issues are fixed. Why are you guys even complaining in the first place? If you are this good with the class, buffs will help you even more. Some of the stuff you say make me even wonder if you play necro’s, especially when you mention that we have instant teleports. Dark path isn’t an instant gap closer if we need a target and it actually needs to land.

That said, i agree with most of what this thread has talked about. Necro’s on a whole need a serious examination. Unfortunately we were promised love 4 months before the game released, still have yet to seen much love since then.

There is a sticky which list the necro bugs etc. That is a useful thread.

This thread is in no way helpful, it’s just a bunch of QQ so guys who are bad can all high five each other and celebrate each others hopelessness and blame it on the class, meanwhile shooting down anyone who disagrees with you.

I could show my build and gear and stats and strats but good players figure these things out themselves and tailor it to their play-style or their teams strategy. What works for me and my guild probably won’t work for you.

I thought you might like to know that.

Of course, anyone who was actually using the skills instead of being on the forums, theorycrafting would not be needing a reminder. It’s not exactly something that someone actually using the abilities in the game would tend to miss.

I’m not really sure what you are trying to say here.

The necromancer in the hands of a skilled player is a very durable and powerful class. You and your band of QQers are not skilled players. Rather than whining on the forums about the class why don’t you just play something easier.

When you have 4 distinct people pointing out how your arguments are bad you should re-evaluate what you’re saying before making an even bigger fool out of yourself.

No I think it just proves 4 out of those 5 players are bad.

What we need is less QQ and more L2P. Stop getting mad at everyone who has a grasp on the class and is successful with it. Just because you suck at necro doesnt make it a bad class, it just means you are bad at playing it. There are many other easier classes you might have more success with. I heard d/d eles are fotm, maybe play one of those and quit these repetitive “i suck at games its all anets fault” posts.

I don’t know about you, but I remember playing a certain game for years called Warhammer Online. That game didn’t have many restrictions in the add-on department, so eventually a certain one called “Nerfed Buttons” got popular, well at least it did to a few so-called top players. Essentially, you could set this thing up to play the game using only 1 button. That one button changed depending on the situation. Somehow this was totally fine with the devs at Mythic. Not so fine with everyone else getting their face crushed in by kids who were pressing one button over and over. That’s literal face-rolling. :-/

So now everyone has to play pretty much by the same rules as the next person, on equal ground. We have a total of 1-5 weapon moves, and 6-0 utility keys. Tell me what an add-on would be needed for, exactly? Is this a DPS meter thing?

Yeah nerf buttons was way over the top, the way it could react to certain situations; been cc’d? – instant stun break, behind enemy? – use backstab, health at 25% use 3 pots at once, etc. It made terrible players way better than they should be. Actually every time I think about returning to warhammer online I think of that mod and it turns me off the game entirely. I wouldnt be suprised if that mod was a huge reason people left that game.

I joined a hotjoin with a low pop, I was running a glass cannon necro wells build. I saw a guy on my team losing a fight 1v1, I jump in and kill the opposition, that’s when I noticed all these other guys standing above watching. They all jump down to kill me, I killed all 4 of them. They all left the match.

Is it crazy that while I have lowbie alts, I still only ever play my main necro. The short time I’ve played over 4 builds of her, all decked out with exotics. I don’t know, with all the claims of her shortcomings I should probably shelf her but I just couldn’t.

Anyone who isn’t an altist too, like me?

p/s – nothing gives satisfaction like that of a QQ from a player who sneaks behind enemy lines to try own u coz (hey there’s a clothie let’s pawn her) and find that you are actually a tougher nut to crack than you seem to be

I think plague signet works as intended but they worded it wrongly, just like a ton of other abilities across the game. That’s my opinion.

Just like the locust signet, it says 1200 range but I’ve never tested it at that range so I didn’t know the tool tip was incorrect. I only use it to run faster if I’m solo or doing PVE. I was just noting that it scales to a pretty nice heal if you want to use it.

I run 4 wells instead. And I don’t run in and drop all 4 wells at once and run back out like some noob, our guild uses TS and we co-ordinate our combo fields.

I really cant be bothered explaining the benefits of wells and how combo fields work. But here’s a tip, a water combo with a blast finish gives a big AOE heal, A Well of Blood right next to a water combo gives even more healing and a light combo field. All the other wells give dark combo fields. Combo fields over-write each other. I’ll stop there because the majority of you are probably scratching your heads right now.

Less QQ more L2P please.

When you say the stuff about locus signet im starting to doubt you even play necro, ill let you ponder over that for a while. Here’s a hint the range isnt that impressive.

What would you expect a signet saying TRANSFER do? oh right COPY wait what so im helping the enemy by hurting myself? no wait i can copy alot of stuff to myself so i can transfer “woops almost did it myself there :p” i mean ofc cut paste the condition to the enemy. Arcane Thievery would rox for necro :>

Also very impressive how you have stability while standing in the enemy zerg which well gives it?

Does necro have any good heals? Guardian have dodge roll heal, altruistic Healing, shouts and virtues + other ok heals, warrior have shouts, ele have many many heals. Necro seems to have very short regen and some shipponing crap which heal like 50/tic.

I wear healing gear on my necro and ill give you some examples.

Well of Blood heals me for almost 7000 hp instant, then AoE heal for 7500hp over 10 secs.

My mark of blood heals about 350hp per second and lasts 8-9 seconds on a 4.75sec cooldown, so you get perma regen. You can also add focus 4 for another 15 seconds and if u go under 90% hp you get more regen duration from passive trait, I can get over 30sec regen easily if I want.

Syphoning only heals for 40hp on hits but when u have wells that syphon that’s 5×40hp per sec for 5 seconds = 1000hp, or 10 secs with well of blood = 2000hp. You can run 4 wells so thats 5000hp from your wells in the middle of a zerg.

Or you can use the signet that increases speed by 25% and use the 1200 range AoE syphon, it heals for about 1100 per hit, hit 5 enemies there’s 6000hp. I prefer running 4 wells and staying tight with my group tho.

All those numbers add up and I also have 28k hp + DS.

I agree necro has some problems but they make an excellent support class. Maybe you guys should stop focusing on what a necro cant do and work with what they can do.

I play a wells support build and have laughably pathetic dps but I can stand in the face of a zerg and while they try and beat me down my healing wells and marks are healing my front line for 11k+ over 10 seconds (32sec cd). My wells are turning conditions into boons, melee isn’t even touching us with AoE blind and their boons are getting turned into conditions. And if things get nasty I just pop DS and get back to the back lines, by then my wells are off cool down and I can run in and do it again. I don’t even run a stun breaker cause DS+ fear works for me. I play necro for its utility. Screw theorycrafting!

And while I’m ranting; the signet that says “transfer conditions from allies to self” does not say it removes the conditions, that would be extremely OP.

I beat 2 thieves 1v2 once but my favourite was my first day in WvW as a lvl 17 necro.

I was following this guy across the map when a guild group of 6 jumped him and killed him in a second. I started kiting and throwing bleeds on one of them, when he had about 9 bleeds on I used epidemic and they all had the bleeds, then I AoE feared them into a bunch of mobs and all of them except 1 went down. I spiked 3 of them and the mobs killed another 2 and the remaining guy ran away. That was when I decided necro was the class for me.

I’ve been running my necro as a front line wells support in wvw. I have full exotic armor with healing as my main stat (about +1400 healing). I thought I’d just share the healing numbers I get;

Well of Blood AOE heal does about 710+ per tick over 10 secs on a 32sec CD

combine that with

Mark of Blood regen heals for about 310 per tick over 7 secs on a 4.75sec CD

So your healing your group for about 11k over 10 secs every 32 seconds.

Also you can use focus offhand for even more regen duration. You basically have perma regen.

I also note with a LOL that my life syphon has scaled so it heals for 40hp. But when you are in the thick of it and have your wells hitting 5 people for 5 ticks (or 10 with healing well) it all adds up.

Also that signet that gives 25% run speed and has a life syphon when you activate it heals for well over 1000 hp and can hit 5 enemies for a quick 5-6k heal.

Worst damage, survival and team support.

Oh dear. The OP is obviously completely terrible. I honestly don’t know what to say. He is wrong in so many ways. I’ll just say that maybe necro doesnt look that great on paper to a theorycrafter, but in the hands of a SKILLED player they are an unbelievably versatile class.

I could go on but when it comes to nubs like the OP this saying comes to mind:

I remember back playing basketball (at the highest possible level in my city I might add) the trash talkers tended to be the crappier players. They use trash talk to get under the skin of their opponent and put them off there game. I used to dominate them without saying a word and would instruct my team (I was the captain) to not get involved. If someone was being talking trash set a hard screen or do a hard foul; smash them physically. But do not speak. Actions speak louder than words.

Got Whispered By Enemy in WvW

People on enemy WvW servers should not be able to communicate across servers. It encourages cheating and griefing. I’ve had multiple situations where you kill some guy in a group and while you continue fighting the rest of his group you get constant invite spam because they are mad and want to disrupt you. Then there’s the “duelers”…

To those who like to have organised 1v1 duels: GTFO. This isn’t WoW. Their are many other games that cater to 1v1 duels. GW2 isn’t one of them. I will never accept an offer to duel, but i do like to have fun with these guys, I might pretend I want to duel while I watch some friends to sneak up and gank you and jump on your corpse. This is a war, not a tea party.

Short answer: if its red its dead. I wont ever accept offers of a 1v1 duel mainly cause the players who want to duel are specced for duels, my necro is specced for group support in wvw and does little damage, taking ages for me to kill anyone 1v1.

Now for a story. Yesterday or the day before, I was alone at an enemy BL where there was 3 or 4 enemies waiting outside the spawn. I ran out and they started attacking me, so I kited one guy too close to guards and he got killed, that annoyed his guildie who tried to get me but i feared him into the guard range and he died too, then the 3rd guy started running away (kiting maybe) i killed him legit as more of his guildies arrived, who were also careless enough to get kited into guard range.

That’s when the group invite spam started, they were either mad or wanted to duel I assume. They had 6 guildies at this stage so I run out and start to fight one of them 1v1, it was a long drawn out fight, I couldn’t kill him and he couldnt kill me, I got bored and he got sloppy and he was kited into guard range and he died, then all his buddies charged me to kill me (cause what I did was not cool if you a dueler) and res their guildie but they got aoe feared and I managed to kill their glass cannon dps dude and spiked his heart surrounded by a well of darkness.

They did eventually kill me 6v1, but in the end I had 8 kills and they had 1. Duelers are skilled yo!

I was just wondering what happened is all. I’ve never seen it happen until today. The whole EB server gets booted minutes after taking the bay in YB BL, then when we get let back in there’s a 50 strong YB zerg who already have the outer walls down to 50%. They had obviously been there a while. So anyone got an explanation?

I call shenanigans. How is it that Haks Bend zerg got into map minutes before anyone else could and had outer walls at the bay at 50%. We saw a mesmer glitching over the wall earlier and now this. I have never seen this sort of stuff until we had this matchup. Yaks Bend = Haks Bend

I approve of this change. Opening your paperdoll and slotting weapons and jewellery in the middle of a match is clunky and ridiculous. It’s not skillful, its tedious, and was probably not intended. I was surprised you could actually do this. It was bad game design. And now they have fixed it.

Adding these limitations actually promotes skill and diversity. Teams will now need to make strategic decisions. You cannot bring a counter for every possible situation, you will need to make trade-offs.

I play almost the same build and style with a few differences, thanks for sharing this because it has given me a few ideas, especially that nice combo you open with. I use different gear for an extra 40% bleed duration from runes and sigil.

I exclusively play a thief and have tried many builds and my biggest BS crit was for 14k, then I started trying P/D bleed build and never looked back.

Last night I ended up in a 1v1 situation with a burst spec thief in hot-join, he caught me off guard (id just finished off one of his team mates when he jumped me) and had me down to 10% hp almost instantly, so what did i do? I dodged away, went stealth, put 5 x bleed on him with my pistol, dodged his next attack, signet blinded the one after that, stealthed again with healing, stacked another 5 x bleed on him, by this stage he was running away with about 12 x bleeds on him, so i used steal, then crippled him, used cloak and dagger for another stealth and 5 x bleed then watched him run around a corner and fall down.

No real point in my post, just thought it was a cool story.
