Returning player, been deso since beta, don’t want to shift server. Looking for advice on who is the most active wvw guild I can join, listen to comms/commander, and not be a rallybot. Prefer larger engagements rather than small scale roaming when there’s a choice.
Thanks people!
How can we turn the ui back to its previous normal operation where 1 keypress not 2 fires an aoe skill?
Are we ever going to get the missing ascended stat combos for trinkets?
I’ve noticed that the bugs start when you die during the final fight with Mordy.
My first instance was buggy as hell because I died a lot there.
Second instance was with another person, we wiped once and there were some bugs but less than the first time, yet we managed to finish it.
My third instance was completed with only one death at start (Eir killed me) and there were no bugs.
So until all bugs are fixed, I’d suggest you OP to be as careful as you can be in order to not die. If you managed to not die and still had bugs then my bad
Didn’t die, we were both solo-ing separately, endless bugs – amazed at how 12+ hrs of resetting and repeating between us wouldn’t yield one single workable instance for either of us.
Should the Hearts and Minds quest be disabled until it’s working? Yesterday I spent 5 hours trying many resets again and again and again, my wife spent an entirely separate 7 hours trying to get it to work for her. We can defeat the mobs, but have no chance against the colossal list of bugs which pretty much guarantees you will have to drag yourself through all the dialogue etc with no skip to the end button, then through long fights, again and again to encounter a different bug from last time that prevents completion or progress and forces you to start from the beginning.
Massive list of bugged mechanics, mobs that don’t spawn, don’t unspawn, don’t die, don’t do damage, interactive items that have broken scripts or appear in incorrect and unusable positions, scripts that fail to stop or start correctly and on and on.
I now kind of need a break from looking at or hearing those story characters, as I want them all to just die in a fire (or a cocoon of Mordremoth bugs I suppose) so the story is at least finished.
Would it be better to disable this mess for a while, rather than ruin the ending for people?
End fight is just unplayable. With every reset bugged in a new way.
I never have a problem hitting in pve or pvp… I dunno what to tell you. Other than, “really, it’s just not that bad.”
Maybe you’re closer to the servers / have better latency if that affects it – it’s kitten awful in pvp, literally never lands damage unless target stops moving or reverses direction.
I recommend using “snap to target ground targeting” from main options. Also action cam. I thought this too until made those changes, now I find it ridiculously awesome.
Snap to ground target guarantees you to miss unless the target stops moving. The radius of vault is much smaller than the distance your target covers during the vast delay before the damage occuring.
In order to more accurately reflect staff 5’s operation, the description should be changed to something like:
“Will eventually aoe an area that your target has left”
At least they admitted they released the new maps without really testing them or finishing them Maybe next time they will ask real wvw players to test from an early stage and then listen and act in the feedback.
My worry is that it may be too late.
The absolutely DID invite entire WvW guilds into the beta testing. My guild is one of those that was invited and we perhaps one of the most prominent, if not the most prominent, WvW guilds in NA.
We took our time to test their game, because we care about it that much, and spent our time writing up feedback about the glaring issues we found with the new maps. For the most part, they were completely ignored. Whether it was due to lack of resources or lack of importance, who can say….. but those people still defending ANET at this point need to get a grip. These forums are getting spammed with complaints about the very issues we raised to ANET literally months and months ago. They chose to ignore them and implement the maps as is.
(read this before it automagically disappears, as criticism usually does)
I’d like to read that thread also.
So if I pull the green glow gem (Poly-luminescent Undulating Refractor (Green)) from Oontz’s Necklace of the Ghoul can I fit to a backpiece and get the glow effect?
E.G. for me perhaps the highest stat option that’s easiest to make would be Advanced Spinal Blades that I can have as exotic celestial, rather than ascended, so as exotic it could take the gem I hope.
Therefore I’d only lose a couple points of stats and get the green glow, versus swapping my celestial amulet for the green one which means I lose the 20% luck etc.

250 is still a huge amount for every character not doing it in easy mode.
What many elitists fail to realise is doing it say of peak for new players who don’t have a wave of meta geared and specced characters pushing through the zone is going to require colossally more effort than they faced.
Doing it with the first wave, especially with previous map completes makes it easy mode.
You can’t let the ‘easymode elite’, who will trivialise nearly all content, block new players and alt players from features like class functionality. I say that as someone who’s played at the mmo elite end for nearly 2 decades.
Denying a huge amount of the playerbase access to their class mechanics is very dangerous for the health of the game which requires all groups be catered to, not only the elite.
The elite have plenty of goals with legendäres raids coming etc.
It’s funny to see the “hardcore” crowd accusing everyone who criticised the 400HP mark of whining and crying while they are the only ones actually whining and crying right now.
What’s funnier is the so called hardcore don’t actually understand that they did it in EASY mode being with the first wave of meta players flooding the zones. Wait until they try doing a poorly geared alt with no map complete through at off peak without meta classes pushing the zones and events.
I’ve done 50hrs in the new expac on one character. This allows me to kitten my character by having no traits at all and use a different weapon.
Everyone who did this in easy mode with the first wave of meta characters carrying the zone events is going to realise how horrible this truly is once they try and do an alt with lesser gear off peak.
I haven’t been this worried about a mmo changing direction since star wars galaxies or ultima online, both of which never recovered from listening to very bad advice from a small section of players.
Heart of Thorns appears to have been designed to throw a large portion of its customerbase under the bus and force them to have a massively worse experience than the first wave of metas who did it together on easy mode.
8/10 for the work that the team out into the zones, but -7 for the devs who poisoned so much work with the character mechanics grind gates, mastery grind gates and enforced maguuma event grinning. Leaving 1 out 10 but it’s fixable if devs act very quickly.

Everyone who missed the first wave of hardcore players with Maxed gear and specs will find it exponentially harder to do 400 grindo points.
Why are people who unlocked elites in a few days with all the advantages arguing that for example shift workers who play off peak should have to take weeks or months to unlock something they paid the same money for. There seems a mean spirited nastiness to enjoying class mechanics being locked behind grind gates that require wildly different time investment depending on how many advantages people had when tackling the grind gates.
The players who view themselves as hardcore actually had it fracking easy.
Cultivated synergy appears to not work in any fashion at all with healing spring.
Trust me I hate the 400 grindo points x 9 characters and trying to force you to do stuff I’ve avoided 3 years – like PvE map completes.
I feel the removal of guard buffs was a bad idea. As an excuse they offer ‘barrier to entry’ and then turn around and say ‘go make 400 levels for your elite’.
Yeah that change and the reasoning was pretty silly. It only hurt low health pool, non-bunker players. A new wvw player is going to die in 1-5 seconds to a regular wvw player stacks or not.
Since the extra power was removed, its all fair.
This was rarely seen as an issue in 1v1 anyway, where specs and counters is what win the duel.
The far more unfair scenario was say 50 vs 50 fully buffed, one side looses and wipes for one reason or another but they decide to clash again… But now its the eqvivalent of 40 vs 60 because the winners remain buffed with guards and stacks while the loosers are effectivly punished by loosing guards, stacks and probably players, as if dying wasnt enough.
I am not sad to see that go.
The new guard line improve combat vs NPCs more than the old… which was kind of the point to begin with.
That’s a good point. It’s more the sense of getting nothing in return for guard buffs being deleted, in a game mode that has been very badly supported and rewarded since release. Plus some gear combos don’t work as well since its gone and you miss the stats.

Take this for what you will, but I just want to know when the old philosophy of “We don’t make grindy games” flew out the window.
A lot went flying through the window.
“We just don’t want players to grind in Guild Wars 2. No one enjoys that. No one finds it fun”
And then HoT is basically a couple hours of new content hard gated by massive grind.
“Our games aren’t about preparing to have fun, or about grinding for a future fun reward.”
HoT is entirely about preparing to have fun by grinding before being able to use specializations.
When asked about GW2’s release date, the answer was, “When it’s ready”
Meanwhile, HoT got released with legendary weapons to be added “later”, the raid to be added “later”, the new squad system to be added “later”, and so on and so on.
ArenaNet turned around and shot most of what they claimed was their “basic design philosophy”.
IMO, that’s a sign of how much they deserve to be trusted.
indeed +1

Gating core play mechanics like character trait lines behind massive massive MASSIVE grind (with enforced repetition again and again and again across EVERY character) makes me totally distrust the Anet devs. These devs appear to be building a korean grindfest mmo.
What happened to the devs who promised “Arenanet don’t make grindy games?”
Fix the Elite Specialization . I want to play my class not PvE for it.
Totally this. I bought the expac for new elite specs. Instead I got enforced BS pve grinds again and again and again for every single character.
It’s a bit strange, I feel like by the time I’ve grinded the bar to unlock the ability to use most of these things, I’ll long be sick and tired of the map it actually matters in.
Exactly this. Now repeat that grind like 9 (or 18 times with old world grindo points) to unlock the class upgrades.
Can someone please explain to me why sooo many people have such a huge problem actually playing the content they paid for in order to progress their characters. I mean why even buy it if you are so against playing it. I just dont get it x.x
Here’s my viewpoint:
Instead of doing the new content on with the new elites I was excited about using, I have to first complete the new content, and also first do all the old map content I never liked in the first place, all without using the elite specs. Metric frak tons of grind, before I can use the elites.
Now repeat the same grind again, in every case without using the elite specs while doing the grind, because it’s all gated bullshot, for another 8 characters (or more, many people have more).
If you look at all 11 of my characters and add up their entire map completion ‘s across all 11 it wouldn’t even add up to just one time 100, let alone 1100% map completion. The new expansion has gated the elites behind approximately 2200% map completion (approximately one old world map run through plus a new world map run through to get all the stupid grindo points).
If I didn’t want to do map clears even once on any of 11 characters in the last 3+ years, why would I want to do map clears like 18x or more times just to finally be allowed to get past the kitten gates infront of the elite specs?
With the 400 grindo points insanity I’d pefer to get no elites at all, and instead get several new classes not just 1.
At least a new class is new from the start you’re not forced to grind away with a class you are either bored of or actively don’t like in order to eventually one day use a new spec that could make it fun or interesting again depending on how it’s going to be changed in the balancing rounds to come.
I actually agree that having wvw abilities offer a big boost could be discouraging to new people and population, but that logic has to apply more equally to how people achieve any advantages on the wvw playing field.
There is no route to earning legendaries inside wvw so in principle then why should it offer any stat boost inside wvw?
Why should it be vastly easier to gear character for wvw by NOT PLAYING WVW?
These are logical questions to be asked especially when the minor return on time invested boosts for wvw players (e.g. guard kill stats) are deleted from the game?
More specifically why was nothing given in return e.g. a load of hero points?
This expansion further enhances the uturn from the core original promises of the GW2 team which we bought into at launch.
“Play your own way” – However only a few ways really properly count for progress and rewards. There are wildly different returns on time investment depending on whether you choose well supported or undersupported play modes.
“We don’t make grindy games” – However we’ve made one of the most grindy western mmo’s ever, and gate additions behind extra grinds at every possible opportunity.

CU in 2016?
Crowfall in 2017?
Anet are running out of time to start addressing core flaws in the WvW design. Like attempting even 1 of the 4,000+ viable suggested improvements to population issues / PPT / night capping / PvD etc etc that have been put forward in this forum alone.
You’re forced to play playstyles you possibly either don’t like, or are very bored of, for thousands of hours to eventually experience the new playstyles you were really excited about.
This is the absolute worst example of grind ever.
Having Zero elites and instead 2-3 entirely new character classes would have been massively superior.
Yes or no?
The prospect of repeating content again and again and again and again to do thousands of grindo points has taken me on a total 180 from being really excited about playing the game and all the playstyle changes with the new elites, to feeling really ambivalent about investing that insane an amount of time into the game.
I can get doing it once maybe but…. holy grindsauce batman, regrinding all the grindo points on every character 1 after another. Surely spirit shards buying hero points would be 1 way of making this less of a disaster?
(edited by Kalan.9705)
With my playtime I could choose either to get some stat boosts from doing legendaries/ fractals/ other PvE content – or from playing WvW and gaining ranks. Mostly I chose WvW from beta on.
Now all stat boosts have been deleted from WvW abilities, but why is it that people who went the PvE route with legendaries and bucketloads of ascended gear across their characters can still come into WvW and enjoy stat advantages inside WvW from choosing to not play wvw but PvE instead? That seems quite disrespectful to wvw players in terms of deleting their time investment and prioritising PvE players inside the wvw mode.
It also feels like hchoosing wvw is very under rewarding in terms of hero points to unlock the horrible grind gates on the new elite specs.
New borderlands maps feel massive, empty, devoid of PvP, full of travel time and only being used to try and grind away the thousands of elite grindo points; so people can actually expand their play variety by being able to one day utilise the elite specs which they bought the new expansions for.
Is there something I’m missing that makes this expansion better?
This morning instead of being excited about time off work and and a brand new expansion just released for my game I found I’d rather clean my house. That’s really not a good sign.

Grind Wars 2…………
How few of the playerbase really has little enough real life constraints and the spare requisite thousands of manhours to grind out the thousands and thousands of grindo points needed to actually use the new expansion class additions? Is this game only for the hardcore forum posters and everyone else can forget about playing the class expansions they bought?
“We don’t make grindy games”.
Congratulations, you’ve made the most grindy MMO I’ve played in 15 years. Grinding AA’s in Everquest1 was more fun and a far better curve on time investment to power/ new class potential jumps.
P.S. thanks so very much for deleting stat boosts from WvW time investment, and yet leaving legendaries and ascended gear aquisition as still giving stat boosts inside wvw play. Because investing your time outside of WvW, should obviously give you the better advantages inside WvW. That makes total sense…
@Roy Cronacher, would it be possible to use this same type of system except a maybe 25% damage reduction on pets in WvW? Pets die instantly in WvW battles and it would help immensely to make some class features available in WvW… Of course percentages can always be tweaked until a balance is found.
This is not currently possible. For this change we made creatures, at the base AI level, look at what they are targeting and what they hit to adjust damage accordingly, it has nothing to do with player damage interactions. Doing this for WvW. adjusting outgoing player damage to minions, is not tech we are currently working on and likely would cause some perf issues as well. Players attack much much more often then creatures. So doing checks on each one of the damage targets from a player can become expensive very quickly. Though, that’s not to say that we won’t ever consider investigating it, but for now this change is specifically for creatures attacking player minions and we’ll be balancing it and seeing how it goes.
Couldn’t this be accomplished with a zone wide buff on minions in WvW areas with a percentage of all incoming damage reduced or greatly increase their mitigation in some way and just have the dmg adjusted as it lands? This seems like it may be a good low hanging fruit option. Because right now any and all minions/pets and even those coming with the elite specializations will be useless absolutely utterly useless in any large scale fights.
Things are rarely that simple. While you may be looking at that from a larger scale fight perspective and it would probably help there, it would create other problems such as making minions too strong and frustrating in smaller to mid scale combat with just a flat reduction always on them.
For PvP and WvW.
Give all minions/pets/summons/clones etc a limitation that they cannot take more than x% of their max health in damage per second. Tune it a bit the different game modes, maybe 8% to 12% hp loss maximum per second might be a good point. They still can be killed easily but it can help minions not be so extremely worthless in any larger pvp/wvw encounter without being so significantly more powerful in smaller encounters.
Druid is a fail.
7 pvp matches. Zero times druid even activated because of the incredibly slow and painful build time and severe rate of decay on AF.
I prepared my ranger for HoT – with this change it was completely wasted time. I’ll need to play a different profession.
Hate this nerf with a vengeance.
POSSIBLE FIX
I don’t know if this will work for everyone, but:
- Enter any PvP match with your ranger as a spectator
- Spectate another ranger that has access to their pet
- Press “K” to open up pet management and select your two pets
- Enter a match or HotM to check if your pets will be summonedIt seems the issue was that our pets were both removed. Since you can only access the pet management with an active pet(impossible with bug), the only alternative is to spectate another ranger.
I’d agree it’s demotivating for rangers to have their pet mechanic left broken for so long, have to fix my pets each time via the spectate method.

Oh bug report sent… I just hoped there was a way to fix my character like this month, not when they have time to look at ranger pet bugs
I did mention I went underwater and tried multiple things in wvw and pve with the pets there but that had zero effect on sPvP pets being broken.
My pet is bugged in sPvP – is there anyway to get underwater in sPvP now? Because not that I’ve seen.
In sPvP all my rangers pets are permanently stowed. Combat will NOT bring them back either in matches or lobby(dummies). no PvE or WvW on land or in water combat swapping or changing pet types has any effect on bringing back sPvP pets. Stow button inactive in sPvP matches and lobby.
I made a newby ranger character which has functioning sPvP pets but would like to once again be able to play my real character for sPvP preferably.
Is there any wacky workaround that brings your pets out of sPvP hibernation?
P.S. please give us a keybind for stow pet finally

My feedback:
Gyros took everything that is shoddy and awful about turrets and basically repeated it. I’m lost for words over this. Just speechless.
Hammer needs a little work, engineers desperately need more weapon variety anyway and non-kits builds should also have some possibilities/fun.
Traits don’t synergise very well compared to other elites on other classes.
Scrapper feels a rushed mess, and far from ready. Gyros need the same complete redesign that turrets have needed for the last 3-4 years.
Sorry, but that’s my take: cancel gyros, maybe use some of their code to perhaps make turrets less kitten awful, polish the hammer, come up with an elite mechanic for engineer that isn’t a joke, redo traits with gyros gone and changes.
Scrapper is nowhere near the polish of most elites, and definitely not ready for release.

Isn’t this empty wall of recycled intentions-not-actions even more devoid of any stated roadmap of changes compared to Devon Carver’s vaporware WvW PR fluff from 2 years ago??
After 3 years we’d like to see even some of the major issues plaguing wvw from beta be actually addressed not just talked about.

Why are the reward tracks frozen and don’t move? Why isn’t PvP becoming pointless in terms of reward progress, displayed in some visible manner that actually lets you know your time is being wasted?
Seems like throttle behaviour is back tonight 20:15 GMT. Can stream video just fine on 2 machines but GW2 traffic is god awful.
I’ve had this bug 3 times in under a week on my warrior character, had it like twice in months on other characters. empty open zones, or busy full events or wvw seems to make no difference to when it can randomly occur.
