The developer wants me to pick another weapon… no they want me to play and pay for the game and expansions and so on…

I will not pick another Weapon b/c I do not like them. Someone else may like them and that is why they are in the game! I simply use 4 skills and rarely use the skill I do not like. I would rather use something else in that skill slot.

The weapon swapping skill idea is AWSOME! ok… I still like to have options. Having a radio in my car is awsome! I’m so glad I can use the 5 disc CD player and put in what ever 5 CDs I want. Options make life better. Options make games better.

Yea that could have some cool ideas… Like having the 4 / 5 skills have animations to hold the weapon with both hands and strike… or swap hands thus switching out what you do with skills 1-3 temporally. Or stick the target and pull the sword out with suport of your other hand… skill 5?

Or with your fist… you punch the mob in the face

It would be too hard to balance that way.

If you want different skills, just pick a different weapon.

It is not the playerbases decition or opion to say it would be too hard to balance. This is the developers issue to reslove not the player base. Yes the players might have some insite but they are not solving the issue.

Just pick a different weapon… NO THANKS. I like 4 of 5 skills and just hate other weapons. Weapons are linked to multiple skills. Picking a differnt weapon bring you multiple new skills. You can’t just pick and chose what you like.

Options are a good thing!

PvP Rank Progression Too Slow

Slow progression is a good thing. What would not be a good thing is if the progression for you was caluculated slower then everyone else (and a good thing for you it is not). So this gives people something to achive if they want. Would you rather it be quick so you can cap out and thus not progress later? Probably not.

I played DAOC and RR13 (Realm Rank 13) took a long time to achive (I only got to RR 10). RR also gave awsome benifits (new set of skills to pick from). I was very glad that I was still making progress.

Yes… this is what others don’t like. Bleeding strike is no longer tied to a weapon. What is the point from going dagger / dagger to sword / dagger if you have replaced things like Bleeding strike with sword skills.

So you swap from dagger / dagger to sword / dagger and yet skill 1 is the same skill.

I did not miss the point as I get it. However if at level 51 the sword skill that unlocks has a bleed on it… now your bleed spec is more viable for sword and the skill that unlocks for sword is tied to that weapon.

Well I would guide any player that is transitioning from clicking to using key binds to go out and buy some hardware that will improve you gaming experience. There are several gamepads and mice that are designed for games such as GW2. I for example can never go back to using the WSAD format for movement. On my G13 I am able to move my character with a thumb stick. 3 fingers to do movement (WSAD) have now been moved to my thumb. This makes hitting hotkeys very easy.

ATM the only types of macros I have considered for GW2 is…
Elementalist…
Going from non-earth attunment to earth attunment and putting up range dmg reflect skill. Turn this into 1 key instead of 2 keys…
For me… there is no reason to go beyond this ATM

Some people have already fired back and do not like having skills that are not tied to the weapon. Having traits unlock skills for weapons would work, but really how is this much different then just adding the skill options per level range? The trait logic will hinder players from chosing another weapon if they are speced for extra skills via the trait they have unlocked.

The example of the Great sword… your logic just pigion holled that Warrior into using only a Great Sword. But then again traits do that anyway with X % improvement using weapon Y… so maybe it all is a pointless disagreement to begin with.

All you hotkey users suck b/c you arn’t using Keybind Macros from a game profiler. Your DPS rotation is thus inconsistent and sluggish.

Hmm there’s one flaw in your example though

you see 1st we are all clickers, than we step up our game and masterfully use keybinds than after that you still want more precise and higher level gameplay so you use some macro’s to accomplish many tedious things all at once and have more time to execute complex combos and rotations.

Personally speaking to me anyone that uses a whole load of macro’s to play is not really a good player just a macro junkie, but hey that’s an entirely new subject that is filled with war and flames.

I can play effective enough in some MMOs with the clicking method. This is not one of them games… It is not tied to “MMOs” as much as it is tied to specific “GAMES”.

In WOW for example… I played a Ret Pally in Wrath of the Lich King. With my G13 Gamepad and the In game macro system I was able to optimize a Macro to net me Max DPS. This was a 1 button Macro that I held down. This left me free to get in position, stay out of fire, watch for debuffs, watch for who in the raid needed to do something so I could call it out. Nearly every fight I would be top DPS in a 25 man hardcore raiding guild. On Saurfang… I was able to change the macro from PRESS to TOGGLE and go afk come back and still be top DPS. I played with very good people (clearing 25 man hardcore).

I tested the macro in stormwind for about a week to make sure the delays and algorithm worked. I tested it with different gear layouts for variables and did an analysis on the data using EXCEL.

I could very easily do the same with GW2… At the moment there is no benefit to take it to this level.

I guess my point is… I was already a good player. With the addition of the Macro in WOW I was an even better player. Same example of the clicker that went to keybinding.

This is a HUGE suggestion, I’m seeing it all over the place, even made a thread about it myself. If they do add more skills it should be worked into 30-80 progression, since nothing new happens during those levels at the moment.

Yep…
You could have;
31-40 weapons add 1 more skill
51-60 weapons add 1 more skill (+ the 31-40 weapons skill)
etc…
71-80 weapons would have 4 more skills then current to pick from.

This could be taken further by having certain weapons at 80 that you hunt for that add 1 more skill… Making an even 10 skills per weapon to pick from.

Yup, you have a financial incentive to get better at this game. If you suck you will perpetually be poor.

b/c if you die a lot that thus means you suck and should be poor…
Has nothing to do with mobs respawning rapidly, being leveled down lower then the area you are in, having mobs trained on you by other players or you are playing a “squishy profession”. So yea… I agree lets make the game harsh. If you die the game ALT-F4s and you are locked out of your account for 2 days. Lets simulate a death.

Or lets not.

But that wouldn’t please both parties. I enjoy the logic behind the skills. I remember when i played wow how much I hated how I could rend with a mace, or stun with a sword. The game in it’s current state is all about what weapon at what time. It’s based around the simple logic “bashing things bash, magic things pew pew”.

Should they remove this simple outline it would revamp the entirety of the game. Suddenly you get something that is really hard to balance. If I understood you correctly you mean that all staff skills are usable for someone with a staff, right? Then you’re proposal can be boiled down to the removal off classes. You aren’t proposing a difference in mechanics, your suggesting a new game.

Every game needs a box to work within, anything else would be ludicrous, especially if you want a shot at the competitive scene.

My point is, the solution wouldn’t suit both parties, it would only suit you. The weapon swapping in itself makes for very different game play, all within the frames of one class. Removing the need to weapon swap would ultimately change the core mechanics of the game. Elementalists can’t swap since they have elements, so what weapon do you bring to the fray? “Oh why, I can just choose from this plethora of skills”.

This isn’t changing the game to the point were a new game is needed. The balance of new skills is the developers problem. I think you have missed the point of this suggestion entirely. The skills 1-5 are still attached to the WEAPON. The weapon isn’t limited to 5 skills… it now comes with more that players can pick and choose from.

Example may be…
Staff Fire-
Replace the roll dodge fire wall, with the ground target fire wall. Why? b/c other players (not just me) might find a situation were placing a firewall on a ground target is better then roll dodge with fire wall and still want to use the Staff and not a Secptor.

I had a topic like this. No one cared to reply. The GW2 community sucks… or people think it is just a bad idea… or people are just to lazy to login and respond. Played the Elementalist b/c they get 20 skills per weapon and still got bored with them.
Example Staff…
I would replace Fire skill 4 to something else… I hate this skill
I would replace Water skill 2 to something else… This skill sucks solo and kiting
I would replace Air skill 1, 2, 3 and 4… ok I shouldn’t be able to replace all 4 of them, but those are the ones I do not like. 1 (chain lightning) hits non-agressive mobs and the Ele Profession is a wimp. skill 2 just takes to long to use, skill 3 pushs 1 mob when skill 1 has pulled 3 mobs thus making it suck, 4 is run speed (may keep) however don’t always need this.
I would replace Earth skill 5 just b/c the visual sucks and I can’t see it sometimes.

So the skills that I don’t like, I hardly use. Now I have limited myself to even less skills. Things start to get stale at this point and it is worse for other professions. I like the idea of skills associated to weapons but feel it is missing the mark.

Skills bound to weapons is one of the best ideas I have seen in a game, HOWEVER, Guild Wars 2 has not implemented it to the full potential. Players like options!!! Weapons should have had some options to change around a few skills… Pick 5 skills out of 6 for example. Then have PVE drops that add skills…

Staff of the Necromancer (Necro Class Only)
Now you can pick 5 skills out of 8.

Elite Staff of the Necromancer (Necro Class Only)
Now you can pick 5 skills out of 8 (slightly more powerful then the 2 skills from above).

Staff of Summoning (Necro Class Only)
Now you can pick 5 skills out of 7 (This staff adds a skill that summons a Lich)

I need options… I just don’t like some skills but really like others on the same weapon. I really like chasing after an Item. If one event dropped the Staff of Summoning… and I want to summon a Lich… I would enjoy doing that event 10x more knowing my work is going to pay off for a specific item /w a skill that I want. 100% / 50% / 25% chance to get item after doing the event successfully… this would best be determined by how Anet / Players feel about loot grinding. I do not feel with a high percent to drop it is considered grinding. This would also be a great way to add endgame content.

The DOWNED state will be the sole reason this MMO doesn’t keep me coming back.

PVP
For the most part it works HOWEVER… clearly some profession get an advantage over others with 2 & 3 ability. If anything, it should be another team member that is interrupting the finishing blow (Knock Back / Knock Down / Stun / etc…). They should replace it with 1. Dmg Skill (auto attack); 2. Dmg Skill (on cool down); 3. Ally Benefit Skill (on cool down); 4. Channeled Heal (as is). They should also allow the player to crawl slowly to a safer place (slow enough you can’t get away from the finish move).

PVE
Downed State skills same as above with the current class unique skills (2/3 skills- moved to 5 and 6). I may need to play more at higher levels, but, I am finding the down state in PVE happens way to often. I don’t like being 1 hit or having mobs cho-cho-trained on me or respawning before I can kill a few mobs in the path… etc… I don’t like getting hit for tons of dmg by things that I can’t see (at least give me a chance to dodge).
Healing in this game is not very good. Healing for the most part is also on cool downs. (don’t get me wrong the healing is fine). This brings up a question for Anet if anything. Why have mobs 1 shot players? It is not like players are going to get constant healing to recover for each and every blow.

I would like to move my 1-5 abilities around.

I 100% agree. Elemental Staff. I would as much as possible like to have the ground target AOE skills on the same buttons. Having;
Fire Ground Target on… 2 and 5
Water Ground Tgt on… 2, 3, 4, and 5
Air Ground Target on… 5
Earth Ground Tgt on…. 2 and 4

Would changed to…
Fire- 4 and 5
Water- kept as is
Air- kept as is
Earth- 4 and 5

AND

I think weapon skills should have some options. I like Staff, but hate some skills so much that I get angry and rage quit when I use them (ok no I don’t but I do qq a little when I do a long cast skill that I wish I didn’t hit).

Cosmetic apparel will not keep me playing a game either.

I however am taking my time with the game very slowly. There are way to many great games out in todays market. Play a little GW2… play something else… play a little more GW2… etc… /w no monthly subscription it works. Good MMO to play on the side b/c you know other players will be at the same level as you if you want to take a break for a month.

DAOC ruined PVP for all other MMOs for me. I had some nice 15 minute 2v2s over and over for hours in that game.

I did try however… went in with my awsome Elementalist and had a Necro take 90% of my life in less then 2 seconds at max range.

You say that almost as if
1) Thats the norm,
2) Long drawn out battles dont occur in any other mmos (go play priest feral vs Hpala dk)
3) As if there is nothing you could have done in terms of skill, utilities or trait setup in order to stop this.

If you play glass cannon you shouldn’t be surprised when another player can blow you up….that’s why they are called GLASS cannons, because they break so easily.

This game has TONS of burst Damage and every Profession seems to be a GLASS CANNON with the exception of a few Guardian builds. It is not just the Elementalist.

I stopped playing my Elementalist for a Guardian, However…

I did put points into Earth and went with condition dmg using Spector / Focus. Stacking Earth attack 1 to 13 stacks does some nice single target damage and you get a reflect / invincibility. I then use Elite skill for summon Elemental pet… Earth Pet. Utility skills the AEO poison and the 2 DMG arcane skills. Could solo skill challenges / story content with ease.

The only thing that sucks about it is… the condition dmg is really bad on structures and you will have to switch to fire. You will find yourself wishing you could swap to Staff for AOE when your around other people.

I could care less about PVP. Elementalists are not GLASS CANNONS. Isn’t that some other MMO term?
I see many other professions doing equal amounts of damage to the Elementalist. So what is the definition of this GLASS CANNON? To do equal damage as every other profession and have very weak defenses? PLEASE

Elementalist if anything are GLASS SUPPORT with many utility skills and very weak defenses.

I quit my Elementalist for a Guardain b/c…

My Guardian was doing the same content, required less buttons, is more combat effective, gets AOE skills off much faster during group events, does more dmg with a 2h sword, etc…

Elementalist was fun to play… The game is just plain stupid at some points however. Like doing AOE dmg and 1/2 a second after watching you life drop to almost zero without even getting to see what is hitting you. It is like if you do AOE dmg expect to have some type of % reflected back at you that you can’t see. Have mobs respawn on you before your done clearing the area, have somene train 1 mob into you thus = your dead. THEY ARE WIMPS and die way to easy.

Dagger Dagger… right! On a wimpy class that can’t take hits. No thanks
Scepter Focus… This worked well vs 1 mob however soon as group event… Wish I was Staff.
Staff… This worked both single and vs multiple mobs. Was able to circle kite mobs around switching from Fire to Air, Water, Earth. However soon as your locked out of Fire, your DPS goes down the tube.

Oops that got long.

This game does a good job at making your character feel like a wimp (w i m p).

That being said;
The down level system is awsome and with a few changes I might be playing the game right now instead of spending time on the forums. I like feeling powerful in games and that my presence matters. I don’t think I will ever get that from GW2.

Yes I understand what you are trying to say, and dagger dagger is pretty decent dps. Especially with stacking condition damage. My point is, going duel daggers in a Dungeon is going to offer you nothing but a quick death. Especially in explorable mode. Trust me, Ive tried it…For me, scepter, offhand dagger or Staffs with stacking crit damage and precision offers me the most DPS while staying alive. Sure duel daggers with condition damage might offer the highest amount of dps, but when you are dying in every pull its not worth it.

I have to fully agree with this, while dual dagger is my favorite weapon combo to play, at 80 in dungeons it is just a quick trip to downed state even with a full “tanky” build.

Dagger / Dagger maybe fun but is implemented poorly into the game. I just think it is way to easy to get into the downed state. I really hope Anet does a major overhaul to the downed state system. I find it boring and it makes me feel like a kitten (g i m p).

the problem with elementalists in my opinion is that they are a harder class to use to full effect and yet the
rewards from doing so are lackluster compared to the other classes

that… I find it 10x more effective to play my Guardian with a 2h Sword and just destroy stuff without having to swap elements.

Ele was fun to play… I now play a Guardian b/c twohand sword makes me feel less kitteny. This MMO however makes me feel like I’m playing a kitten character most of the time anyway regardless of what profession I pick.

Fun to play not very rewarding. Fun to play also makes other professions seem boring. I only use Staff b/c being at range is your friend. Kiting I do well and have learned from playing casters in DAOC, WOW, D3 and so on. The mob combat range for Kiting is a PAIN in this game. Have to learn to Kite in a circle rather then a line.
I normaly use Fire then Earth to Snare/Dot (shield if ranged), then Air to finish them off (or Water if I want to Heal / stop running around). Not very rewarding when you witness other professions go pew pew mob dead with way less effort.

I would have to agree with others that have played the Ele about death. GW2 Ele death toll in 1 week is greater then any other game I have played. Aasked my Ranger friend if he died often and he said “Nope, my pets helps alot”.

Makes me regret picking this Profession. However I will not play anything else and nothing is ever static in MMOs anyway. They may get buffed or may not.
