Keep crashing on every world boss. Never happened before patch. Crashed twice on Dragon’s Stand final boss. Once at 20% on course for both achievements, the second with him dead but since he stayed at 0% for like 3 minutes I crashed during that and got 0 rewards. Also crashed during Mount Maelstrom Golem, but it gave me the event as completed. Problem is I couldn’t see or loot the chest, so I couldn’t do it at all yesterday so couldn’t finish my revenant armour. This is completely destroying my enjoyment of the game.

Mesmer nerfs :(

Seriously, the amount of overreaction here is ridiculous. Nerf???? 30 second cd to portal is pretty much negligible in its effects. Moa? we now get it underwater, and from what I’ve checked with my guildies the only noticeable changes we saw were skills 4 (a typical moa daze) and 5 (a warrior type charge).

And the LoS thing? absolutely broken as it was. Some of the comments I’ve seen……. >.> you can swap to staff on sieges, I do, and I have no problem hitting targets on walls. You know what? lets have thief summoned thieves not need LoS, and Elementalist and Necro pets! All pets! any pets!.

Mesmer remains one of the strongest classes in the game. I didn’t really notice the blind thing, since with Iwarden I had already seen it blocked/obstructed/evaded and not spawn, so I thought it was the same with all those kinds of skills (also thought moa worked that way) and it makes sense to me.

I think people don’t quite understand what OP means….So what you are telling me is that you can do something better and that no other class can equal? I mean, I pretty much can 1v2 without any kind of worry of losing with my mesmer and crithammer guard, even 1v3 with my mesmer. I can pretty much do the same with my thief.

Good examples of OP things are daggerstorm (ridiculously high damage+reflect+stability+cripple on a 90 s cd) Moa (only ability of its kind, only counter is dodge/block no way to remove) Portal (only ability of its kind, mechanic completely outside of normal gameplay).

I think power necros can be a very strong class, especially when used by a good player. I think all necros can be considered a very strong class. But is there really a category where you would say: “wow, there is no other class that can do this better than necro?”
Unless you can answer yes unequivocally to that question I don’t feel you can say you are an OP class.

Once necro has its bugs sorted (or even just a few major ones) it will be one of the most powerful classes in games, without a shadow of a doubt. Right now they just have a couple of strong specs, which are exacerbated by good players, and you just have to play “avoid the bugged trait game” xDDDD.

“putting a cast time on WPing wouldn’t hurt anyone, and would actually force people to PvP more often. "
It would hurt teams who buy a waypoint in their keep and post lookouts so they have a chance to port players back and defend a keep before it becomes contested.

You really think a 3 second cast time would create such an issue?

@lilith Wow! you’re good at assuming! we tend to roam around capturing supply camps and towers, or defending them, whatever the case may be. You know what we do when faced with similar odds against us? we report, then tackle the invaders. The main force has more important things to do rather than tackle small roaming groups. But hey, thats being clever, diverting resources like that, right? After all, we don’t actually want to PvP in WvW.

You run up to a 3vs3 fight, attempt to engage, people escape by WPing. if you don’t want to PVP fine, don’t do it.

I can understand running from a zerg. But right now, people are escaping unless they have an overwhelming advantage. Between this and the Alt + F4 thing WvW PvP is quickly becoming a joke. Oh my god! we are on equal numbers! teleport away until we have a zerg to back us up, kitten they caught us! Alt+f4.

The amount of fights I have had in the last week or two is becoming depressing. Why PvP at all if you are only going to fight when you are guaranteed a win?

Myself and my guildies roam in 3 to 4 people groups, very occasionally 5. People hardly ever engage if they are on equal terms.

Since WPs don’t have any kind of casting time, are we meant to only fight when we have 20-30 people? or is it a “leave the guy without swiftness behind” scenario? we can’t force anyone to fight, but putting a cast time on WPing wouldn’t hurt anyone, and would actually force people to PvP more often. Crazy, no?

Right now, it is pretty sad, running up to a 3 on 3 fight, and 2 of them teleporting away only staying when they have odds of 2 to 1.

It doesn’t punish people for over extending as much as it should and is ridiculous when combined with stealth.

I don’t think this would hurt anyone and would encourage more tactical gameplay and help skirmishers.

@psirca Maybe not everyone is, but we had 7 to 10 different people do it in less than 40 minutes in the eternal battlegrounds puzzle today, and it has happened so much it is incredibly frustrating.

What I would like to see is the old “keep character logged in for 30 secs to 1 minute” more than enough time to kill someone if they are fighting.

Conversely I would also like to see something to help people who have genuine DCs. Being kicked out of WvW after having to queue for hours due to a DC is ridiculous.

There should be some kind of a period of grace, perhaps tied in to the being logged in when they DC.

As it is right now this is starting to run rampant, which is frankly, pathetic.

So maybe, thieves aren't supposed to be 'bursty'.

Karthaugh.6532

“Other classes like the Ele and Mes have some of it too” Some of it? Seriously. Right now a Mesmer is 100% more slippery than a thief. Clones + stealth + 1s of vigor per crit? having played both to 80 there is no comparison.

Not only does the mesmer have more base hp, he approximately the same amount of stealth skills (prest/veil/decoy/mass invis(elite) vs C+D/blind. powder/shadow ref./hide in shadows(heal), shadow trap) he has better condition removal (null field for AOE condition and boon removal and an ethereal field, or arcane thievery for single target).

On the subject of dodging, thief has Feline Grace (15pt some endurance returned) Bount. theft (20 pt 15 sec of vigor) and vig. recovery (10 pt 10 sec of vigor upon heal);
mesmer has vig revelation (10pt 5 sec vigor upon shatter) and crit infusion(5 pt 1 sec of vigor upon crit).
I give this to the thief, but barely, since I find that with my mesmer wielding sword/focus/greatsword and having around 50% I have vigor up near constantly due to multihit skills. I dont have to use any utilities, or go any higher than 5 pts in the crit tree for this.

And then you have what I consider the clinching arguments for thief vs mesmer “slipperiness”.

1.-)Clones/phantasms. Whether you can instantly recognize them or not the matter is, you have to make a decision. That is DPS time lost immediately. Also at 1200 range, it isn’t easy telling a mesmer from his clones without utilising some of the bugs (i.e explorations star)

2.-)The mesmer does not, at all, have to spec defensively to gain most of these benefits. Clones/phantasms are always available to you. Some do massive damage (Iwarden/Iduelist come to mind) They can be shattered to cause more damage or daze, or distortion! So even when the mesmer is purely focused on evading you, he can still be dealing pretty good damage.

Right now, the only thing thief has, is burst. And to be perfectly honest, I’d rather play a warrior for that. Might take me a second longer to kill someone, but I get heavy armor, 80% more hp and 2 1200 range weapons, one single target one AoE.

Thief is currently best at: burst damage, Stealth (just barely) and perhaps dodging.

They do have 25% Mov. speed in a signet, which is genuinely amazing and is the one area where they certainly trump mesmer.

You can debate Blink/shadowstep/portal/traps etc… But overall I think mesmer is incredibly more survivable without even speccing for it, whilst thief has to invest heavily in survivability to compare.

Clearly this is just my opinion, but it is what I have found so far in my time with both classes having played 730 hours, 135 on mesmer 359 on thief. I also have an 80 guardian, and a 53 elementalist, in which I have found a class that with D/D plays much more like I hoped thief would, just without the stealth.

Sorry for the stupid length xD.

Karthaugh.6532

I haven’t played thief for a while, and I’m glad to be honest. I’ve leveled guardian and mesmer to 80 and have my ele at 53, and they are just so much more versatile.

I was actually astounded at the level of group support I could offer (I mainly PvE/WvW) while still doing really good dps. Having been something I have talked about with my mates since beta, I always felt thief was severely lacking in this department. It only has a few skills that can truly be called support, and less builds that can be run as support than any other class except ranger perhaps.

Also, initiative. While it is an awesome feature and makes it feel like a really fluid class, in the end it will lead to nerfing thief to the ground for PvP balance issues.

When you have skills and a mechanic that encourages to spam the skill which has the best dmg/initiative cost, those skills are going to have to be subpar when compared to other classes to make up for the fact that they have no cooldown.

I really don’t know what they can do with the class, and while I love its mobility I feel that it has much less versatility in its roles compared to other classes.

Just my opinion anyway .

Why does burning not stack?

in Guardian

Posted by: Karthaugh.6532

as Eijolend stated it does stack, just in duration, not intensity. It is also (I believe) by far the highest damage per tick condition in the game, which is why it doesn’t stack in intensity.
As far as other conditions I think it’s only bleeds and confusion which stack in intensity. Bleed is the lowest of the condition damage per tick, and confusion is dependant upon skill use and tends to have a short duration.

The traits that buff steal are fairly low level (10 points in the power and cond. damage builds, with an extra one in the condition line) and incredibly useful. I just do not understand how people can complain about this skill.

Heartseeker usage

in Thief

Posted by: Karthaugh.6532

Karthaugh.6532

So not a rant thread, just generally curious as what people see as the best option. So it looks like Arenanet want Heartseeker to be an execute type skill. Do you think it’s the best option as a finisher? I personally feel that right now I would only use it on a target at 25% if they were outside of melee range.

On my character right now, C/D does the exact same damage as HS tier 2 (i.e 50-25) for double the initiative, however it also stacks 3 vulnerability and enables stealth for a backstab. Backstab damage is 1643 on my character compared to 1370 tier 3 HS.

Do you think that for a player with a higher skill cap C/D followed by backstab is always superior to HS unless target is outside melee range? (not that I think this actually requires a high skill cap btw :p)

Let me tell you one thing: if you play a class, any class, and kill people in pvp(because you are a good player or they are just baddies) you will get called op/noob. People in MMOs tend to be incredible bad losers.

As for builds I like the D/P SB setup with a heavy focus on evasion for SPVP. (works pretty well in small skirmishes in WvW)

The amount of trolling you can dish whilst still killing people makes this build insanely fun to play.

I fell in love with the play style after watching this guy’s videos during BWE3.

I modified it a fair bit to suit my preferences but kept the basic idea, and it is incredibly fun to play.

Having played fighting games extensively over the years (in particular SNK games like KoF) it reminds me of the high speed gameplay they used to offer.

I love having high mobility, nice combos, and keeping heartseeker available as an execute type of skill.

Absolutely agree. To be the only class without a 1200 range weapon(all we have is cluster shot, a good skill admittedly) when several other classes have 1500 range(engineers/rangers and eles with some skill) is pretty disheartening.
I think shortbow should be 1200 (perhaps through a trait of some kind) and leave pistols at 900 as the burst option.

The problem is that LoS still doesn’t really work as it should in this game. Ever shot a mob from 15 meters away and got the obstructed message when all there was between you and the mob was air? I have, and so have my guildies. And It’s a hair pulling situation. That same invisible pixel(or whatever it is) also blocks infiltrator’s arrow. I have noticed this happening more often in Orr than anywhere else(though iron marches and blazeridge steppes also have their frustrating spots).

However I do think that shadow step is fine as a straight line LoS teleport. Shouldn’t have up/down/over gaps functionality(and really neither should engineer or any other class, as it allows for cheesing of jumping puzzles/vistas and getting into areas much easier than you should by avoiding packs of mobs)

I think when the LoS issues get fixed, infiltrator’s arrow will as well.

Jumping puzzles for casuals? god I hate the arrogance of people making statements like that. So because you don’t do jumping puzzles you are “hardcore”? please. I have seen super mario players that are far more hard core than any mmo raider/ so called hardcore players. My opinion on the vistas is: if you are a completionist you will do the vistas because you have a need to explore all the things and see everything there is. Map completion is a reward for exploration and in no way mandatory. If you just want the easy loot…….well, tough really ^^.

And in any case…..seriously the very worst vistas in the map take like 10 minutes tops to figure out and get (that’s if you’re not using google or something to do them) so…. oh and need the experience from the map completion? Really?

I totally disagree about the sylvari zone. My friends and I had done every zone except for caledon forest in the beta, and having played through at release it is by far my favourite zone in the game(metrica province is a close second). The general feeling of my mates was the same, and keep in mind this was with all the bugs/not being able to party going on at the time. I feel this may be a matter of personal preference. The norn zone I also haven’t had any problems with(though I pretty much gather all the things then craft all the things and explore all the things and….) the human zone I found has a problem at lower levels. I got out of the zone with normal levels, but I had to craft to bridge from around 5-7 as there seems to be a jump in level with the second portion of the zone.
