I’ve officially bricked another character running to that spot. For this second character, the game freezes while loading, on the loading screen, after the legend is rendered at the bottom. Is it just me?

I patched and logged in as an engineer parked in Lake Doric in the turret farm area. I see a loading screen, and the legend of hearts / POI’s / Waypoints at the bottom of the screen, but the game appears to halt.

Logging in as another character and traveling to Lake Doric, as I approach the turret farm area, the game freezes.

Suggestion: Split out enemy audio effects

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Kate Soulguard.7132

I’ve finally gotten into raiding a bit, and I’ve noticed a few issues that are more pronounced here than in any other area.

An issue I noticed is that the aural cue prior to an important enemy attack can be obscured or blocked by other effect sounds. An example of this is the Vale Guardian’s “vacuum” audio effect that accompanies the ground aoe circle prior to porting characters to random points on the field. This sound is very distinctive, similar to the cannon wind-up used by Striders in the Half-Life 2 series.

This aural cue can be muddled, sometimes severely, by friendly effects occurring at the same time.

Audio channels should be divided into two channels: player effects, and environment + enemy effects. It could also be divided into three: player effects, environment effects, and enemy effects. The audio sliders would operate independently of each other, just like all of the other sliders in the sound options area.

Thank you for considering!

I’ve finally gotten into raiding a bit, and I’ve noticed a few issues that are more pronounced here than in any other area.

One issue is that enemy attacks are visually obscured. An example of this is the player port aoe circle for Vale Guardian. These aoe circles are quickly buried by friendly AOE / other visuals. In general, enemy attacks and aoe circles quickly become buried, or are not ever visible, because of the myriad friendly effects going on.

Aside from managing them through LOD, I am asking that there be an opacity setting for party / squad / friendly attacks and AOE circles.

My suggestion is to add a slider that would adjust how opaque player attack effects and AOE circles are. By default, friendly attacks are completely opaque. Meaning, they are completely visible. As the slider moves, friendly effects become more translucent. When the slider is at the other end of the scale, friendly attacks and aoe circles are 100% translucent, allowing us an unobscured view of the enemy’s attack animations and aoe circles.

Thanks for considering!

About two weeks ago I was mapping in the Apostate Wastes, nestled in the southwestern corner of Fireheart Rise. There was no event going on, but then… I heard the most curious dialogue. Then I panned around and read along as I listened to a surreal conversation between a Grawl Shaman and a Harpy Matriarch:

Shaman Shoba: Oook ook oook! Be mine! Ahhk ahhk! Love you like warm mud!
Harpy Matriarch: Rawk! Funny wingless male. I claim you! I will pluck every hair from your back.
Shaman Shoba: I’m yours! Ook ook. Fly away with me! I am shaman to your shrine. Oo oo ook!
Harpy Matriarch: Fledglings! Rawk! Come here! Come see! Mama has a shaman!

C’est l’amour!” I said out loud. I sipped my wine and laughed for a minute. Then I slaughtered all the harpy fledglings. It was very memorable!

I don’t pvp or wvw seriously due to what I perceive as toxicity and imbalanced gameplay.

In PVP I do moderated dailies only. I do not participate in league play. Thank you Bear for your daily room.

In WvW I build up for track progress and then AFK for 8min at a time. After eight minutes, I do something to keep the participation bar going, then go back to start and AFK again. This is mandatory for acquiring a Gift of Battle.

Permit duplicates of permanent tools

Kate Soulguard.7132

Something I don’t understand so well though, concerning the course of conversation in this thread, is why we’re splitting hairs about what a tool is. If we’re going to be academic about it, tools are in their own little corner of our taxonomy. They are part consumable, part custom animation, and part slottable equipment.

It doesn’t really matter so much to me – my argument is the same whether these tools are classified as equipment, unlock, or kitten. Permanent tools are store-only, they cost a lot, and I am asking for added convenience.

Other reforms, such as splitting out the animation, are out of scope for me. While I do like that particular idea, it does not accomplish what I desire: universal (concurrent) accessibility of permanent tools across characters.

Kate Soulguard.7132

And so on, you can definitely say that you want these things to be account unlocks and that’s fine (I’d like to use my watchwork picks on all my characters too and get back refunds for the duplicate tools I’ve bought) but the fact is they are not unlocks. They’re equipment.

Hi Pifil,

I certainly understand the way you’re differentiating these into the equipment category.

Fortunately for me, their classification isn’t relevant to my request. :-) I am asking for a reform toward greater convenience, given the relatively high cost of the tools. Because they are items that go in slots, the path of least resistance to get what I want is a tool duplicator.

Consideration of development time is important when I ask for a reform to a feature. The path of least resistance to get to what I’m asking for is to copy tools. They would just need a vendor and some item check logic.

Kate Soulguard.7132

See the issue?

While it would be super awesome to have an account-wide unlimited tool, it isn’t practical due to the lost revenue it would cause.

Hello mtpelion.4562,

Dyes are universally accessible.
Outfits are universally accessible.
Finishing animations are universally accessible.
Lots of things are universally accessible.

These things all cost less than the tools, yet they’re universally accessible without swapping between characters.

In fact, if you recall, dye went in the opposite direction from what you’re arguing. That moved from individual character to universal, and they credited free dye for duplicates across characters.

So there is a precedent for what I’m asking. ArenaNet does not decide on this solely based on the revenue argument you specify, and they’ve made this decision for items that cost much less than permanent tools.

I want to buy more animations. I don’t want to buy more tools, and the tools should have concurrent accessibility like other shared items / animations.

Kate Soulguard.7132

If a player flags as invisible, friends can still see the invisible player’s location by hovering over their name in Friends and reading the OnHover / tooltip for the player.

To reproduce this issue:
1) Friend A flags as Invisible.
2) Friend B goes to Friends.
3) Friend B scrolls to Friend A in the list.
4) Friend B points at Friend A and reads the tooltip.

Using myself as an example, what a friend should see is:

Kate Soulguard.7132
Offline

What they see instead is:

Kate Soulguard.7132
—(a dark line)—
Level 80 Guardian
Timberline Falls

All while I am flagged as offline.

Please fix this as soon as possible. OnHover / tooltip properties should not disclose the player’s location when offline.

I agree with the idea of preventing the client from rendering blocked logins. It could be a client-side feature.

Justification: roleplay events such as moots, weddings, funerals, etc.

  • Some roleplayers decide to do a wedding. One troll can ruin the entire event.
  • Logic already exists to cull the number of rendered characters on the screen.
  • WvW and PvP should ignore the rendering block and use regular culling rules.

Once someone has purchased all three types of harvesting tool, please add the ability to duplicate them across other characters on the account.

On sale, permanent harvesting tools cost 850 gems each. Total it’s 2550 gems, or a little under $32.

For that price, the convenience is appreciated. Accessibility should be similar to outfits once you reach one of each type of tool.

I almost never buy outfits. So irritating… I’ve despised the clothing change ever since it was implemented.

Make a copy of light, medium, and heavy armors, and make those skins available in other weights. There’s all kinds of stuff that gets released for all three, light/medium/heavy. That would give us some awesome clothing options and would require no resource development.

Relative gravity in Blazeridge Steppes

Gravity has become relative in the Blazeridge Steppes.

When a character stands on a surface, they are affected by gravity relative to the angle of that surface. I believe the off-angles are triggered during idle animations.

As a suggestion, if possible:

Within the scorched zone, make that feature permanent for all idles, and add this to the game lore. It seems an apropos facet of chaotic energy for gravity to become relative like that, and may be representative of the evolution of Kralkatorrik’s power.

Does anyone happen to know where it is? I hate to run the whole darn thing again… it took me hours. Any help would be appreciated.

Kate Soulguard.7132

Hello,

Many joined TTS for Triple Trouble today (7/2/2015, 12:00PM CDT) on ip 64.25.33.47. Our instance was plagued with both gameplay and technical issues.

  • Several users experienced de-sync issues. (Visible bosses, but no zerg is visible. Needed to waypoint.)
  • I believe scores of players experienced lag that was bad enough to make the event marginally-playable. I was one of them.
  • Either people haven’t figured out the best combos yet, or wurm health may be a bit too high as a result of the recent boss health changes, particularly when paired with technical problems that negate effective gameplay strategies by the group.

I would kindly ask that other participants in this Triple Trouble event please drop a note in this thread and describe what you observed.

In closing, someone may want to look at this world event more closely, and consider game policies, network stability, and infrastructure issues that may inadvertently make this event too difficult to complete at the present time.

Thank you for your consideration. Guild Wars 2 is a wonderful game, and we enjoy it very much.

"Suggestion" GW2 Dueling updated

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kate Soulguard.7132

Kate Soulguard.7132

I would like to offer a roleplayer’s perspective.

Arcade-style dueling in the PvE environment can be an extremely divisive topic among roleplayers. The player’s personal twitch skills do not necessarily reflect the abilities of their character, and roleplay itself, when hostile, can really blow up if one side insists on engaging in the arcade elements of the game to resolve conflicts that are literary.

Generally, pvp between roleplayers DOES happen, but it is usually either:

  • Literary-style, with actions that are written out, and outcomes that are mutually agreed upon.
  • Pen-and-Paper-style, using online dice according to pre-agreed rules, with the understanding that the outcomes of these rng() arrangements will be accepted by both sides.

Either way, we either conduct ourselves cooperatively within the confines of these rules.

Personally… I don’t like arcade-style dueling at all. I only enter pvp and wvw under very specific conditions, and roleplay is almost never one of them.

Some roleplayers came here in the hopes of seeing some sort of dueling system in the future. Some of us came here specifically because there wasn’t one. I am a part of the latter group. My community is small, and I am very fearful that it would become even smaller if this were not implemented carefully, because some of us would respond even more viscerally than I would. They hate – hatehate this sort of feature, and their buying decisions are strongly influenced by this preference.

In the short-term, I would tolerate dueling provided that it were tastefully implemented. In the long-term, if I couldn’t absolutely embrace the concept as it was implemented, it would probably whittle away at my enthusiasm and I would find a different game.

State of Roleplaying

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kate Soulguard.7132

Kate Soulguard.7132

To Orpheus Animus and other roleplayers who feel isolated:

I felt the same way, and fixed it as best I could. If you feel as I did, I would encourage you to take the following step:

  • Add every single roleplayer you see to your Friends list.
  • (As in… right-click, Add to friends.)
  • Yes, even characters you don’t know or associate with.
  • ESPECIALLY characters you don’t know or associate with.
  • Yes, I know, this is five bullets representing one step. You hush.

I do this habitually, and it has improved the number of roleplayers I run into in the world. Megaserver seems to give healthy consideration to Friends when making a balancing decision for an individual player. Megaserver has been the bane of my roleplaying existence since it came out, but once I sacrificed my Friends List to the Megaserver, this seemed to help. Begrudgingly, I have used it this way ever since.

What do you keep in your inventory?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kate Soulguard.7132

Kate Soulguard.7132

Worn: All ascended zerkers armor, trinket/rings, GS, Staff

I bought an extra inventory tab.

Inventory:

  • 6 pieces of PVT ascended armor
  • 6 pieces of Clerics armor
  • 6 additional pieces of armor (2 pants, 1 boot, 2 chest, 1 helm) for clothing variety during roleplay events
  • 5 PVT ascended rings/trinkets
  • Stack of ogre pet whistles
  • Stack of elemtal powder
  • Ascended hammer
  • Ascended shield
  • Ascended mace
  • Ascended wand
  • About a million bandit crests
  • 6.02*10E+23 ascended materials that I can’t use
  • 6 spots for various Halloween food / regular food / maintenance oils
  • 2 exotic items that have special meaning , meaningful to the character, to give away to others during the course of meaningful conversation.

…Basically I have 60 spots permanently occupied in inventory for gameplay necessities and niceties.

I have stacks and stacks of T5 Account-bound materials in storage, and more stacks and stacks of unbound materials in the 1-person guild I set up for overflow storage. Best in-game purchase ever was to buy a guild for myself and use it for shared account storage. I’ve spent maybe 10GP and gotten something like 100 storage slots out of it. Totally worth it.

I have another question! Is there a trick to restarting the challenge without first having to kill the thing?

The Redux is hard for me because of this auto-Aegis on Guardian. The whole encounter takes me about 15 minutes to do… I’m not all that coordinated. But when I mess up, it’s early on, and I seem to have to finish the Memory off before I can restart.

Undo my booboo at Redux? ...Oh well...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kate Soulguard.7132

Kate Soulguard.7132

So… I have to rant because of my noobish blunder, I guess you’d call it.

Restarted Echoes of the Past to do the challenges and worked on them for a couple of days. Got to Glint’s Lair and dove in. At the Exposed Weakness: Redux challenge, I failed. Then I nearly kittened my pants because the next cutscene started. But then it was over and I was able to continue. So, I talked to the Mote and recalled the Malevolent Memory. Started the fight again.

I accidentally hit the Use key while running past that NPC that spawns right there near the last fight. I didn’t have the presence of mind to log out or anything after this. I just sat there in shock once I was taken out of the Lair, and begrudgingly went through the dialogue until the story step was completed.

Then I nodded. I said to myself:

Yep.
.
.
.
.
…Yep.

Then I looked up at my ceiling and gave it the middle finger. I’m not sure why I did this, but it was much more therapeutic than I realized it would be. I highly recommend it.

So… Any advice? Can I fix this or do I need to restart the whole thing? Right now it just seems like two days of work, down the drain. :-(

As a service to people who are going to reply with this solution, I am offering it up as a copy-and-paste option:

Just pay the 10gp + 1000 Bandit Crests and be done with it.

:-(

The New Dailies -- Feedback welcome

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kate Soulguard.7132

Kate Soulguard.7132

TL;DR: The new dailies are disappointing. On the whole, I complete four tasks MUCH less frequently than I used to.

I did dailies every day since they were introduced. I liked the laurel reward. Since the change, I’ve completed dailies perhaps five or six times.

  • I don’t wvw unless I absolutely have to for something like exploration, or if it’s something easy like capture one of those five pad thingies south of your home world’s central spawn point. Go there, capture one, relog. I can do that… when it’s offered…
  • I don’t pvp, ever. Ever. EVER. I’m not that good, and people are incredibly impolite. It’s not worth it.
  • I am not always online at a time when a specific world event happens.

So like a few other contributors here, I am now marginalized. I don’t get rewarded for dailies unless the rng() aligns just so.

If the objective of dailies was to encourage people to diversify, the current solution does that. For new players it will feel normal. For old players it will feel like negative reinforcement. I felt “compelled” to diversify, if I wanted the reward. However, even once I had done things outside of my normal play habits, it was often not enough to get four daily tasks done due to the other tasks that needed to be completed. The system demanded more, and I will not give more at the expense of an enjoyable gameplay experience.

In closing, I want to satisfy my full PVE daily, and I need four options each day that are not bound to a specific world boss spawn schedule.
