My client is just… broken, won’t even launch. I even re-downloaded it. Terminal client fix doesn’t seem to work anymore.

I’ve tried everything short of literally redownloading the game, which is huge and I’d rather not spend the bandwidth. Is there anything I might be missing?

Works fine on our PC, if that makes a difference. Just this Mac being a butt yet again.

First I just want to say that it really warms my heart to see a thread like this <3 This community is full of wonderful people.

My request is (cringe) a gem store item… I’ve always really wanted one of those “shared inventory” slots.

I keep thinking I will buy one, but if it’s not one thing it’s another, car breaks down, unexpected vet bills, you know how it is. I’m SO thankful that this game is free to play!

I’m also on the hunt for a Ghostly Infusion and/or the Queen Bee <3 But those are crazy expensive so, that is kind of an out-there request haha.

I wish I could just save up gold and buy this stuff, but even without extra purchases it still feels like I’ll never get Astralaria at this rate!

I’m going to go and see if there’s anyone looking for things I have the ability to fulfill! I love the spirit of this post.

It just feels like a clickfest and a gold sink.

This is coming from someone who generally enjoys the activities even though they are old.

The thing is, since they ARE old and there are only a few, I DON’T enjoy them enough to FARM them. Thus the gold sink.

Also, I’ve pretty much accepted that I won’t ever be able to complete the JP. Didn’t there used to at least be a sort of “save point” when you talk to Tixx?

It would just be really nice to hear some official word on the issue.

Even just a little “Hey sorry, we’re aware of this problem and working on it!” would be enough to satisfy a great deal of us, I’m sure.

The hush-hush approach just makes us feel like Anet could care less. Why bother keeping customers informed, right? It’ll get fixed when it gets fixed.

Not that it ever will be fixed, for all we know.

It probably sounds like I’m pouting. Honestly I hate the special snowflake, “customer is always right” attitude, and I try very hard not to be like that. But I don’t think it’s an unreasonable request.

I love GW, have played it since launch and now feel I’m being given the middle finger because I’m unable to use this x64 thing people talk about. I’m a mother of 2, I can’t afford to upgrade my computer. Yes, its old, I’m still stuck on vista. But due to how Gw has played for the last 3 years, I would expect it to continiue working.

I really hope this gets fixed soon.

This is actually very much how I’ve been feeling since HoT’s launch.

(My Mac SHOULD be able to run this game fine stats-wise, but nope. No 64-bit client, and no word of one so far that I know of.)

Don’t bet on it. It’s a problem core to the engine and memory fragmentation. The x64 is not a fix, it’s just letting their memory hog of a program have more memory to hog.

So basically, either put up with the constant crashing every 5-10 mins.. Or uninstal and leave the game until I can get a much better computer? Yay :’(

I really, really don’t want this to be “the answer.” I don’t have high hopes for a refund, even if I end up wanting one. But I love this game and would prefer not to.

It would be VERY nice to hear something official from Anet.

Especially regarding Macs, since they rarely mention that either.

I think it’s worth noting that whatever was patched a couple hours ago did NOT fix the MAC client.

Every now and then it just toggles “off” and it stays that way till I notice it and fix it. I think it might be when the miniatures become “hidden due to rising population” but I am not sure yet.

Anyone else having this issue?

I really wish the Mac client and related issues would be addressed more. I’m sure we are a minority, but we still paid for a (working) game.

I think this may be related – Both bow models in the new Plasma set don’t seem to have ANY plasma, though their icons show plasma strings.

Yeah, been 4 crashes since I attempted to log on an hour ago. :p Mac client if that matters, though this seems fairly widespread.

I crashed out of a PERSONAL STORY INSTANCE last night. Didn’t even know that could happen.

If there’s anything I can do (short of buy a new computer – sorry, I need to eat) to fix this, I’d really appreciate knowing what it is.

Tried guesting to different servers, all the same.

It’s the second-last item I need, so after months of working on it, I’ve hit this wall… So depressing.

Is there something missing, like some other event I have to finish to trigger the Rankor Ruins chain?

On a related note, when the Super Adventure Box minis were in the chests, they were forgeable to create the fourth extra mini. So even after unlocking all three, you could conceivably get doubles of all three again and still use them. They were also only available for a few weeks, so the window in which to receive doubles/triples/etc. was quite small.

That didn’t bother me, this really does though. No way to use them, AND a very long window in which to get duplicates.

This is the only set of items I’ve ever seen in the BL Chest I would genuinely consider a rip-off.

It reminds me of back before the closet system, when people had scores of Risen Priest of Balthazar minis.

Couldn’t do anything with em. Couldn’t bear to throw them out.

I think now they are forgeable. It would be really nice to see that happen.

Listen, Anet. I have a pile of snow owls, ravens, and hawks.

Once you have one, the rest aren’t even forgeable – it’s a total waste of a “reward” for what was already a pretty dicey gamble. It’s worse than the individual boosters are, you could at least use them. These just take your gems.

Can we just… either make these forgeable, or at the very least take them out of the BL Chests? They’ve been there so long, and getting yet another bird instead of a usable item is discouraging me from buying them at all anymore.

Been crashing every time I go into a moderately sized zerg forever now. Best way to fix it seems to be “lower settings” but I swear there are people with worse computers than me don’t seem to have this issue. (Also, it looks like crap, and my comp can run pretty decently on good graphics for anything that’s not a group event)

Also, I got my computer in 2012 I think… I don’t think it’s the CPU.

I really feel that for me, this is a Mac beta issue. It’s been happening more and more over the last year – Very disheartening.

I know I disconnected from at LEAST two events. That’s on top of the 3+ events (I think) I was in on the very first day. I know the first rewards will be fixed, but what about the disconnects??

I can’t prove anything, though… it has me thoroughly discouraged. It’s the first new event in forever, I was really looking forward to it. But mostly all it’s done is frustrate me all weekend.

I think I’m going to take a break from the game. Maybe come back when HoT releases, see what’s up.

I earned my Selfless Potion by staying vigilant and never deserting any event other than porting out when totally dead in a situation where rezzing would have been no good option for the players still fighting, and thus removing my dead weight from the event scale.

I earned my Selfless potion from the Scarlet event… but I mean, let’s face it, I also go the Selfish potion the same way, during the same event. Meaning I hocked at least as many precious Heirlooms as I returned. :p

So there was always a little irony in the way these were obtained (at least, if you wanted both).

I think the main reason I hate this event – More than being bored, uninspired, and with a lacking reward system – is that it makes me feel LIKE A CREEP.

It doesn’t matter that everyone’s doing it. It’s totally against the way I want to play. It’s even against the way Anet has thus far ~encouraged~ us to play.

We’ve previously been given events wherein the entire map gets rewards for a successful event, which encourages map-wide co-operation, good communication, and strategic use of commander tags.

These systems worked, and felt rewarding to band together with a whole map of people… I do not understand what happened, here.

There’s a pirate (?) I keep running in to in the LA main bank area. So instead of the Trading Post window I get “MORE BEER!” which is… well, annoying yes, but also kind of immersion breaking given how out-of-context it is. Unless he’s buying beer I guess. But really, it sounds like he’s an NPC that’s supposed to be at a bar. :p

It has happened to me at least twice during these events – get disconnected right near the end of the event. All stacks are gone, not even enough time to get back to 5 for the minimum reward. Half hour wasted.

So at 1:52 am on a Sunday night, trying to get in any more small rewards as I could before the event’s end, just to lose everything at the end again – It was the straw that broke the camel’s back, so to speak. I was hoping to hang in there a little longer, but I can’t do this event anymore.

Sorry for the rant. I know it’s just one gripe after the other for this event, and I’m as tired of it as everyone else is by now. I really don’t find this indicative of Anet’s usual events at all, and for a game that’s had free content up till this point I’ve otherwise been very happy!

I was wondering, though – Does this happen a lot, or was I just unlucky? Mapchat makes it seem like a lot of folks have experienced this, but I know sometimes the most vocal are still a small portion, so I am interested to know if there’s anyone who shares my pain :p

Another thing I’ve actually wondered, are there currently any other events that have this issue? I ~think~ I remember still getting rewards when I DC’d from Tequatl and still returned to the same map, but that was a long time ago, so I don’t remember if it was full or partial rewards.

It’s confusing because the animation is clearly there and functioning. But you only really get to see it in (approximately) 1 skill per class.

I used to think that leaving it in the game “as-is” wouldn’t do any harm, and what possible reason could they have for not leaving it in..?

My main guess at this point is that, remembering the grand clusterkitten that was debugging and just generally taking care of the area at the time, maybe maintenance itself to keep it running just takes too much manpower. At this time they likely need everyone on board with HoT to keep things on track.

Till whatever distant time when/if it comes back, I will continue to curl up with my SAB boombox and quietly cry myself to sleep every night.

Addendum: Did anyone else think the “girly” set of the Fancy Wintersday outfit on the Char felt seriously awkward? I think it’s because their clothes are never gender-based, so when you apply one it feels… odd.

I did like the Noble’s outfit, mind you. Even on my girl char, that looks positively dapper. I wonder if it feels more natural on the species because it’s also non-gender-specific?

Now as for Asura and Charr… this is the reason I will never play either of those races! There is nothing wrong with wanting to be girly. Or boyish. The point is you should be able to be either! For both genders in fact. I thought we were past the point in society where we pigeonhole people into gender roles. And by the way, forcing a woman to be masculine isn’t equalizing her, it’s telling her that feminine isn’t good enough.

I agree with this – though I think within Tyrian lore it makes sense for Char especially not to have “female” options. Why? Because they don’t see the default as “male” to begin with, it’s simply the non-gender-specific default. I don’t think they make all that much distinction between genders (flame legion does but who cares about them, amirite). Or if they do, it sure doesn’t come through during gameplay.

This is what I like about the Char the most. They are hands down the LEAST sexualized anthropomorphic race I’ve ever played.

That said, I sure wouldn’t mind the ~option~ of breaking with lore a little in favour of some girly options But I guess I also understand why Anet may be hesitant to introduce gender-specific clothing into a race that generally doesn’t seem to define themselves by gender.

TL;DR version being I totally agree about forcing girls into male roles in real life, but I think the char just don’t give a kitten so it’s okay. :p Any thoughts on the Asura??

I had this happen several times in several instances.

Each time, we managed to make it work by leaving and restarting the instance over and over till it worked.

Average retry amount was around 4-5 times, but it always worked eventually.

Hope this works for others.

Haven’t had a chance to play today, but maybe there’s something really obvious on the map that I’m missing…

Since posting, I’ve zoned in to every map/city with no luck. Everything is at 100%, even the WvW maps.

I’m burnt out for tonight. Will return tomorrow.

I can’t tell if this is a bug or if I’m doing something wrong.

For reference, I have:
- All the WvW maps at 100%
- All PvE maps at 100%
- Checked the Chantry of Secrets

Even though every map shows 100%, my overall map shows me to be missing several WPs, POIs, and Vistas, skill points…

Is there anything I could be missing? I’m very confused, I was not stumped like this when getting my main toon to 100% (about a year ago) so I am out of ideas at this point.

I just spent around 2 hours trying every single solution suggested here and elsewhere I could find – Nothing would get my GW2 to even boot up, let alone download.

Turns out my Network Settings were out of date.

For Mac Users, go to System Preferences > Network

For “Configure IpV4 or IpV6,” select “Manual.” Match all below settings with those from your provider (can be obtained through your router’s setup page). This is referring to the info in the boxes blurred in the below screenshot.

Next, go to “Advanced” in the bottom right corner, then go to the DNS tab and match those settings, too.

Sorry if this doesn’t help, but as someone who was stuck trying to figure out with the program or Launcher themselves for hours without success – This worked right away for me.

I’m not sure I agree with this. We knew the characters before their relationship – Marjory is calm, logical, and independent. She seems to get embarrassed by anyone’s fussing over her. She is a detective, as we know from when she was introduced, months before their relationship was a thing.

Kasmeer is more of a “people” person, good at understanding and empathizing with them. She gets hiccups when she’s scared… Sort of annoying, but part of her character nonetheless. She can me somewhat meek at times but seems to rise to the challenge when it counts. We know that she’s a very talented mesmer from the Toxic Alliance.

I mean… These are certainly not super in-depth characters. But they are definitely more solid than a lot of the main NPCs we’ve dealt with (like Brahm, unfortunately, but I’m hoping he gets more character development as well).

As for “forcing” it, I dunno about that, either. They interact like any couple might. It’s definitely PART of their characters, which is fine, and I don’t feel that it’s the ONLY part of them.

No. For… a lot of things.

Brahm is an accurate representation of Norn, “hit first, ask questions later” as it’s been put. He is also young, putting a less intelligent swing into some things he says. I think of some of the things I said as a teenager and am absolutely embarrassed this day. He reminds me of that phase of my life a lot.

Does GW2 NEED LESBIANS? No. But I don’t really care what it “needs,” personally I’m just happy just seeing gay couples being portrayed as normal. Notice how none of the characters in-game bat an eyelash at the homosexual aspect? That’s a GOOD THING. It’s not meant to be a huge stinking deal, they’re just two characters who are cute together. (They need more character development, sure, but that moves along at the same pace as the story.)

It’s very hard to touch on Taimi without repeating what everyone else has said. Her attitude is annoying but that’s typical of any Asura. She’s aware of being smarter than the team despite being young, so she treats them snobbishly sometimes, as her upbringing would have her do. I’ve always found this annoying about the Asura but it is not out of character.

I’m not sure if the “She’s really young” part has been brought up yet…? She’s been making stupid decisions that are uncharacteristic of the adult Asuras we’ve seen, but they don’t seem all that weird considering her age.

On her disability, I just don’t see what the fuss is about. She’s crippled somehow, so she made her golem to rise to the challenge. It never struck me as a crutch. Her ailment is likely a big part of what motivates her for a lot of things. She concentrates on Scruffy because he’s something she can be proud of, and she obviously wants to be known for her mental prowess over either her disability or age (the age is clearly another type of handicap since the adult asura don’t take her seriously).

Obviously the above is just how I’ve interpreted things. But I’ve noticed her “Hey look what I did!” behaviour and how it seems to be her way of distracting people from her age/disability. It also appears to be a motivator, which is a fairly realistic way of portraying her in my opinion – She is strong-willed both because, and in spite of, her physical obstacles. It makes her seem pretty strong for how young she is.

I should also note that I find her annoying as hell as well, heh. But that’s more of a personal thing for me, I don’t generally like the Asuras’ attitudes. I appreciate that this is all part of the lore and it makes me feel more involved in the world.

TL;DR version is that I don’t like all of the cast either but I can also discern my personal preference from bad writing/acting. I think this is a case of “pretty good writing/acting” versus my personal tastes in characters.

My apologies if I’ve repeated anything or touched on topics already resolved, I tried to read through everything but there’s a lot of material and it’s quite late.

I’ve been following this thread intently for answers, mostly just baffled by the know-it-all attitude and inflated sense of entitlement a lot of people have here. And the snark when answers ARE given! Some people are just never happy.

Communication from Anet could have been more frequent. But then… if all we’re going to do is get mad when they update saying “it’s being worked on” then I can kind of see why they wait till they have something to report.

Let’s can the insults and “oh I wish Anet wasn’t ignoring us” crap though – They’re obviously on it based on the thread someone else posted hours back. Who knows how long certificate patching like that takes?

At least they’re working on it. Without an update, anything else at this point would just be coddling us through repetition.

And let’s not neglect that the issue is important, as it likely involves the protection of our personal information. I’d rather them take a few extra hours/days than have my credit card info become compromised.

Wow, I am honestly surprised that so many people are against compensation.

I don’t have two legendaries. But I do have one, so I know how much time and effort goes into making them (assuming you didn’t just buy them).

The compensation would be, in my opinion, for that time and effort. It’s what makes legendaries special – Not their monetary value, but the symbol of a very hard task completed.

Question for Anet

I’ve been trying to buy the Deluxe Edition with it’s sale price for over 24 hours now…

Will I still be able to get it for that price if the issue remains unfixed before the sale ends?

Add me to the list of Mac users who cannot access the BL Trading Post…

I would wait till the patch, but I really want to upgrade to the Deluxe edition since it’s on sale, and I won’t be able to do that after the patch…
